W. H. & CLEMENCY SLAUGHTER

W. H. SLAUGHTER was born in Johnson County, Indiana, January 10, 1829. Mrs. Clemency SLAUGHTER ws born in Johnson County, Indiana, November 29, 1830. They were married March 31, 1850 and move to Iowa in 1863. This couple have lived in Ringgold County for thirty-five years and for the past fifteen years have lived in Mount Ayr. They have had six children and now have thirty-six grandchildren.

Mr. SLAUGHTER has always been a democrat and cast his first vote for Franklin PIERCE in 1852. Mr. and Mrs. SLAUGHTER are members of the Advent Christian Church. They are well and hearty and both are able to attend to the ordinary duties of housekeeping and gardening. Mrs. SLAUGHTER is noted as an excellent bread maker, makes the good old-fashioned bread of our mothers. Mr. SLAUGHTER is a total abstainer.

NOTE: Clemency (UTTERBACK) SLAUGHTER, the daughter of John and Alsey (HANKS) UTTERBACK, died in Keokuk, Iowa.
