R. W. SELBY, M.D.
R. W. SELBY, physician and surgeon, residing in Tingley, is a native of Wisconsion, born on a farm in La Fayette
County, November 11, 1860, a son of John N. and Mary (DeWITT) SELBY, natives of Ohio, the father being of English and
Soctch, and the mother of German ancestry. They left Ohio in 1853, going to Wisconsin, where they made their home till
1867. They then came with their family to Iowa, and for a short time lived in Montgomery County, moving thence to Page
County, where the mother died in 1874. The father subsequently settled at New Market, Taylor County, Iowa, where his death
occurred in 1885. R. W. SELBY spent his boyhood days in Page County, receiving his primary education in the district
schools, completing it at the high school at Corning, Iowa. He then entered the office of Dr. PASCHAL, of Hawleyville,
Iowa, where he commenced the study of medicine. He took his first course of lectures at Keokuk Medical College, and
later attended Rush Medical College of Chicago, Illinois, graducating from that institution in 1883. He then returned to
Taylor County, Iiowa, where he commenced the practice of Medicine, being actively engaged there till June, 1884, when
he came to Tingley, Ringgold County, where he has applied himself digigently to his profession, and by his strict
attention to his patients he is building up a good practice, and gives promise of becoming one of the leading physicians
of the county. The Doctor was married in April, 1885, to Miss Minnie E. RAYBURN, of Hamilton, Illinois, at the time
of her marriage, but a native of Keokuk, Iowa. In connection with this practice the Doctor has a half interest in a drugstore
in Tingley, being associated with C. C. BOSWORTH, the style of the firm being R. W. SELBY & Co. Dr. SELBY is a member
of the Odd Fellows order, belonging to a lodge in Page County.
