Knight to bring back memories with concert
When the July 4 celebration is held in Corydon Monday, a former Mount Ayr resident will be performing, bringing back
memories that made her an item in Ripley's Believe It Or Not many years ago. Colleen (ANDERSON) KNIGHT began singing at
an early age of two years old. She received nationwide attention after bringing down the house at the Majestic Theater in
Centerville. At the age of two, KNIGHT was able to sing 30 songs from memory and recite several nursery rhymes.
The accompanying item from Ripley's Believe It Or Not was printed about her young talent. Some of her popular hits were
"The Pagan Love Song" and "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes." Warner Brothers learned of her and voice tested her. They
were thrilled with what she could do, but they tried to tell her what to do and that didn't work for a youngster with a
mind of her own. Her mother's death and the Depression ended her personal appearances at the age of six. Her father was a
musician, traveling and working for the Barnum and Bailey Circus. She spent most of her school days in Promise City, IA.
KNIGHT lived for several years of her adult life in the Ringgold county area. For the July 4 holiday, KNIGHT will
perform at the Corydon Museum, bringing back the memories of some of the songs that made her such a unique child.
