ERNEST J. HEATON
Ernest J. HEATON, farmer and stock-raiser, living on section 22, Jefferson Township, is a native of Iowa,
born in Jefferson County, August 10, 1860, a son of Rev. Edward B. HEATON who is the present pastor of Asbury
Methodist Espicopal Church, of Des Moines Iowa. Ernest was reared to agricultural pursuits which he has made his
life's work. He was educated in the common schools of his neighborhood, and at Parsons College, at Fairfield, Iowa.
In 1869 he came with his parents to Ringgold County, Iowa, then locating in Jefferson Township, where our subject
has since made his home. He was united in marriage December 24, 1883, to Miss Ida OSMOND, who was born in Janesville,
Wisconsin, a daughter of John OSMOND, who is now deceased. Mr. and Mrs. HEATON are the parents of one son, Foss,
born February 20, 1885. Mr. HEATON farms 200 acres of land, of which he is the owner of forty acres, renting the
rest. He is one of the active and enterprising young men of Jefferson Township, and is a present serving as
president of the School Board, and filling the office of township clerk to the entire satisfaction of his constituents.
NOTE: Ernest John HEATON died January 10, 1939. Ida A. (OSMOND) HEATON was
born April 4, 1862, and died January 10, 1961. Ernest and Ida were interred at Harmony Cemetery [a.k.a. Mound
Cemetery], Shannon City, Union County, Iowa. Also interred at Harmony Cemetery is Ernest and Ida's son John
W. HEATON, born April 22, 1897, and died May 17, 1912.
