WILLIAM B. GILREATH
"WILLIAM B. GILREATH, farmer and teacher, resides on section 30, Richland Township, where he owns eighty acres of
well-cultivated land. He was born in Martin County, Indiana, October 9, 1851, son of Henry H. and Margaret
(McReynolds) Gilreath. The father is a native of Kentucky, and of Scotch ancestry; he is living in Richland
Township. The mother was also a native of Kentucky, of Scotch-Irish descent, and is deceased. Mr. Gilreath came to
Ringgold County in 1855, where he remained fifteen years, during which time he was in Decatur County nearly one half
the time. He has taught school fifteen terms. He was married in Ringgold County, January 1, 1875, to Miss B. E.
Hess, daughter of Andrew and Margaret Hess, natives of New York and Ohio respectively, the former of Irish and the
latter of German descent. Mr. and Mrs. Gilreath are the parents of five children -- Hoyle H., Odette M., William L.,
James W. and C. D. Mr. Gilreath has held the office of assessor, township clerk, and school director. He is a
member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, No. 464, Grand River, and in politics is a Democrat. He is an energetic,
enterprising young man, of more than ordinary intelligence, and highly esteemed in his community. Postoffice,
