CLARENCE ARTHUR & DOROTHY ALINE (CLARK) EKLUND
Clarence Arthur, son of Carl Autley EKLUND and Pearl Frances JOHNSON EKLUND, was born February 22, 1921. He was born while
his parents were living on the George HOFFMAN farm in Section 34, Highland Township, Union County, Iowa. In 1935 his
family moved to the C. I. JOHNSON farm straight north of Shannon City. They lived there until 1940. Clarence graduated
from the Shannon City Consolidated High School in 1939.
Dorothy Aline CLARK, the only child of Lowell Edgar CLARK and Minnie Lela NAUMAN CLARK, was born September 6, 1922. She
grew up west of Shannon City. She also graduated from Shannon City High School in the class of 1939.
Clarence and Dorothy were married August 30, 1942. They lived on the C. I. JOHNSON [Clarence's grandfather] farm from 1942
to 1943 and then moved to the Lowell Clark farm two miles west and one-half mile south of Shannon City, where they still make their home.
Four daughters were born to them. They are: Jeanne (Mrs. Don WILSON), born March 17, 1946, living at rural Arispe; Janet
Sue (Mrs. Steve WASTENEY), born May 14, 1948, living at rural Shannon City, and Siamese twins, Lorene and Arlene, who died
one hour after birth on March 2, 1950. They shared the same vital organs and are buried at the Oakland Cemetery at
Shannon City, Iowa.
Clarence and Dorothy have farmed and fed cattle all their lives. They enjoy their grandchildren: Barbara and Doug WILSON
and Mike and Brent Wasteney. They are members of the Shannon City Methodist Church.
Over the years they have enjoyed several different recreations. Some have been taking in the horse shows with the girls,
water skiing, going for a spin in the red and white convertible, golfing, and now you'll see them driving their pony
hitch in the parades of the area. As a matter of fact, if you look closely, you're apt to see them coming around the
corner at the Centennial to offer you a ride.
Clarence passed away March 27, 1999, and Dorothy passed away February 5, 1998. Their final resting place is Oakland Cemetery
at Shannon City, Iowa.
