[Coordinator's Note:  This entry should be thoroughly substanciated before use as a source.  Steve Hanken observed that Alva Paul Cook would have been 50 years of age in 1862, overage for service in any unit save the Greybeards.  There was an "A. P. Cook" who served in the 26th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Pvt. Alonzo P. Cook, but his address of record was Wheatland, in Clinton county.  He is enrolled on the 1856 state census as resident in Liberty Twp., Clinton county, with wife and child.  Alonzo P. Cook's life span was 1827-1874. He is buried in English Cemetery, near Wheatland in Clinton county, with a military gravemarker.  Any information clarifying the military service of Alva Paul Cook would be greatly appreciated.]
