MELBOURNE: Four miles northeast of Hinton, 5 miles south of Merrill, east of Floyd River (SE Sec. 34, Plymouth Twp. 91N, R46W.) First post office in the county. Established Aug. 25, 1862, with Austin C. Sheetz as Postmaster. When he moved to his farm place, no one was ever appointed as his successor. Discontinued Jan. 2, 1864.
