This is an important piece of St. Mary’s Remsen church history and Luxembourg heritage; Annie was a stellar member and one of the three ladies who secured our statue of Our Lady of  Luxembourg. From We Are Called:

Annie Kieffer was the daughter of John and Anna Gloden Kieffer, Luxembourg immigrants, and was sixty years old when the unveiling [of statue of Our Lady of Luxembourg] took place.  She was a teacher in Remsen, Struble, and Hinton schools and Indian mission schools and was the priests’ housekeeper for a time.  Annie was a devout Catholic and never married.  Her brother, Eugene, wrote her obituary, part of which read,

Miss Annie Kieffer, who spent a lifetime of devotion and service to others, was laid to rest Tuesday [May 13, 1958].  The venerable spinster…wore the habit of the Third Order of St. Francis to her grave.  Miss Kieffer’s devotion to service to others never allowed her the means for any extravagance.  Her Christian soul shown through her every word and action, leaving a religious imprint on all who came in contact with her.  She was an inspiration for children. In her younger years groups of neighborhood children would gather around her knees for evening story-telling time before they went home to their beds.  In her gentleness she taught them many practical things, but more than that she blended in priceless instruction in character.
