1951 Hummel Reunion Held At Riverside Westfield – The annual Hummel reunion was held on the third Sunday in June this year falling on Father’s Day, June 17, at Riverside park, Sioux City. Meeting of old officers was held and new officers appointed: president, Clarence Hummel; vice president, Fred Hummel; secretary, Mrs. Margaret Hummel; treasurer, J. W. Hummel. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hummel and grandson Mark Thorson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Michael and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Beaubein and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Olson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hummel and Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hummel and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rosenbaum and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rosenbaum and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Klaprodt and son, Mrs. Ida Morehead, Mr. and Mrs. James Morehead and family, Clifford Morehead, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Jurgenson, Mrs. Dorothy Gomez and children, Mr. and Mrs. George Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hummel and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Eide and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holtzworth and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hummel and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Carlson and boys, Mrs. Conrad Stetson and baby, Mrs. William Hummel and Karen, Mrs. Lena Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Basil Hoffman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Lilly, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Wagner and family, Mrs. Calvin Grins and family, Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Hoffman and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Monroe and Dale, Mr. and Mrs. George Henke and family. Visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Coppock and his sister and husband of California, and Henry Millette. The picnic dinner was furnished by each attending. Oldest member was J. W. Hummel and youngest was daughter of James Morehead. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hummel traveled the farthest. Motion was made to have the picnic on the third Sunday of June at Riverside each year. Source: LeMars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, June 27, 1952 1953 HUMMEL FAMILY REUNION The 16th annual Hummel reunion was held June 28, 1953, at Riverside Park, Sioux City, Iowa, with 93 members and 3 visitors present. After the 1:30 p.m. dinner, the business meeting was held by the president, Floyd Hummel. Election of officers for next year are as follows: President, Kenneth Hummel; vice president, Lynn Hummel; secretary, Verda Klapprodt; and treasurer, J. W. Hummel. J. W. Hummel is the oldest relatives present being 82 years of age and the youngest present was Daniel Lee Buseth, who is 2 months old, Gary Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hummel born June 15 was to young to be present. Mr. and Mrs. Rosenbaum and family of Hector, Minnesota, was of the farthest distance. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hummel, Mrs. Lena Campbell, Virgil Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Olsen and family, Mrs. Eliza Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rosenbaum and family, Mrs. William Hummel and family and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hummel and daughter, all of Sioux City, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Klapprodt and family, Mrs. Milton Wagner and family, and Mrs. Calvin Gruis and family, of Jefferson, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. George Hummel, A. W. Hummel, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Lilly, Mrs. Arnold Lilly, Mrs. Philip Beaubien and daughter, Mrs. Robert Michael and son, of Westfield, Ia.; Mrs. and Mrs. Clarence Hummel and son, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Campbell and family, of Akron; Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Hummel and son, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hummel, of Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Charles Holzworth and family, of Omaha, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hummel and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hummel and family, of Alcester, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hummel and sons, and Martin Hummel, of Elk Point, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Henning Hanson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Matheson and son, Mr. and Mrs. Buseth and son, of Falkton, S.D.; Mrs. Jerald Curry and children, of South Sioux, Neb.; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rosenbaum and sons, of Hector, Minn. New members were added to the family by three marriages, five births and one death, Harold Davis. There are six members of the families are in the service: Cpl Walter Hummel, in Japan; A 2-c William E. Hummel, in Korea; Pvt. Thomas Hummel on his way to the far east; Pvt Arnold Lilly, in camp at Calif.; also Kenneth O’Konck and Clifford Morehead. The afternoon was spent in visiting and taking pictures. At five o’clock all enjoyed ice cream, cake and coffee. Leaving for their homes after a perfect day. Next year the reunion will be held at the park at Akron, Iowa, the last Sunday of June 1954. The visitors were Miss Mirian Ole, of Alcester, S.D.; Ed Deveis and Henry Millette, of Sioux City, Iowa. Source: LeMars Globe-Post, July 16, 1953 1956 HUMMEL REUNION (Westfield Special) The 18th annual Hummel reunion was held in the Akron City Park on June 24th Sunday at 1 o’clock with over 100 relatives and 2 guests. Dinner was brought by each family participating. Lyle Hummel of Kalispell, Montana, president called the business to order. Lena Campbell, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting. Business was taken care of, now officers were elected for the next year, George Hummel, president; Neil Johnson, vice president; Mrs. Carl Skog, secretary; Robert Morehead, treasurer. In the past year there were two deaths, 3 marriages and 8 births. Next year the reunion will be held at Riverside Park in Sioux City, Ia.
