William "Ted" Barker was born June 26, 1889, in Preston Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. His parents were Isaac and Annie (Champeny) Barker. He has been a lifelong resident of the county, living near Craig, IA., until his retirement to LeMars. He lived at 535 Central Ave. NW, LeMars.

His marriage to Caroline Gronemeyer took place in Preston Township, Nov. 27, 1919. Caroline was born Oct. 28, 1894, near Craig, the daughter of Fred H. and Wilhelmina (Barinsky) Gronemeyer. She attended country school in Preston Township and helped on the farm.
