Restoration by Stan Culley
THIS MARKER WAS SPECIAL TO CLEAN THIS YEAR. THIS IS A 19 YEAR PERSON FROM LE MARS WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION DURING WW II. HIS MARKER WAS GETTING DIRTY AND A 94 YEAR OLD FRIEND OF HIS ASKED ME TO CLEAN IT.
FOR HIM THIS YEAR, IT WAS AN HONOR TO SAY THE LEAST. HIS PARENTS ARE BURIED BESIDE HIM AND I WONDERED WHAT THEY WOULD HAVE THOUGHT WHILE I WAS CLEANING their SON’S STONE MARKER. FROM
START TO FINISH TO LOAD EVERYTHING UP AND TO CLEAN A STONE LIKE THIS AND THEN PACK EVERYTHING UP AGAIN TAKES ABOUT 6 HOURS – WITH A FEW BREAKS, OF COURSE, TO REST THE ACHING BACK FROM BEING BENT OVER
WHILE CLEANING THESE MARKERS. THIS WILL BE ONE MORE OF THOSE MILITARY MARKERS I WILL TREAT TO KEEP THEM CLEAN OF LICHEN, WHICH IS A BIOLOGICAL GROWTH WHICH WILL ACTUALL STAIN AND PERMANENTLY
DAMAGE THE STONE AFTER TIME. THIS ONE WAS CAUGHT JUST IN TIME!
