Hitchcock, W.'s DAUGHTER - The terrible news comes from Blanchard that the little daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Hitchcock, aged about two years, met an awful death the fore part of last week. It seems that while the mother was absent from the house a few minutes the little one's clothes caught fire. A young brother ran to call his mama, and the girl following, the flames were increased in the open air. A mail carrier chanced to be passing and hastening to the child wrapped his overcoat around it and extinguished the fire, but it was found her person was badly seered and the flesh fell from the arms. A physician was at once called, but the little sufferer was beyond all pain in a few hours after. The real cause of the accident is unknown but it is supposed she was playing with the fire in the stove. PAGE COUNTY DEMOCRAT, Clarinda, Iowa, Dec 3, 1903
