Services Wednesday for Sarah Randolph

Mrs Sarah E [llen] Randolph, 87, of rural Gravity died Saturday night  [September 28, 1974] at   Municipal   Hospital following a long illness.

She was born Feb 10,1887, near Oakland, Mo, the daughter of William M [arshall] and Nancy [Jane] Barnes Starnes. She was married to Charles [Andrew] Randolph on March 8, 1908 who died March 3,1968. The farm home is three miles northwest of Gravity.

Funeral services for Mrs Randolph will be 2 pm Wednesday [October 2,1974] at Walker Funeral Home with the Rev L P Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery at Gravity.

Mrs Randolph is survived by four children: Herman Randolph of Coin; Raymond Randolph of Hopkins, Mo; Mrs Alma Bird of New Market; and Mrs Helen Lawrence of Hopkins, Mo; 10 grandchildren and six great -grandchildren.

Mrs Nellie Guynn of Lebanon, Mo, is a sister and brothers are Dave Starnes of Lebanon and George Starnes of Corning, Calif.

Mrs Velmur Wilburn New Market resident

Mrs Velmur Mae Wilburn, 83, of New Market died Monday evening [August 12, 1974] at Clarinda Rest Home, where she had been since last October.

She was born May 20, 1891, in Cass County [Missouri], the daughter of George [Washington] and Kate Thomas Warner. She was married to Elery [Ellery] D [avid] Wilburn who died Feb 15, 1971.

Mrs Wilburn is survived by three children: James Harland Wilburn of Stanton, Calif, Mrs Dale (Frances EvaLena) Hoops of Glenwood, and Mrs Ray (Anna Laura) Heumphreus of Clarinda. There are 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Mrs Gertie Johnson of Smithville, Mo, is a sister.

Funeral services for Mrs Wilburn were held this Thursday afternoon [August 15, 1974] at Walker Funeral Home with Loren Daly officiating. Zella Ridenour was organist and Rosevelyn Bashor soloist. Casket bearers were: Albert Radke, Larry Eighmy, Paul Golding, Verlin Larson, Orval Ridnour and Ivan Burwell. Burial was in Memory Cemetery near New Market.

Mrs Jackson died Monday

Mary Dean (McClure) Jackson, 72, of San Diego, Calif, died Monday at the Knollwood West Convalescent Hospital in San Diego, Calif, after an extended illness.

 She was the daughter of the late Frank and Carrie McClure of Braddyville, born at Braddyville, Jan 18,1902, where she lived most of her younger life. She has lived the last 12 years in California.

She leaves a son, Larry, and wife, and three grandchildren, in San Diego, three brothers, Morton McClure of Zillah, Wash, Romaine McClure of Bradenton, Fla, Robert McClure of Braddyville, two sisters Mrs Mark (Ellen) Goodwin of Braddyville and Mrs Joe (Eva) Clymens, Hopkins, Mo.

Funeral service will be held at the Glen Greenwood Mortuary at San Diego, Calif, Dec 9 with burial there.

Westboro services for Doris Clement

Services for Mrs Charles (Doris) [Alberta] Clement, 62, were held Saturday [November 30, 1974] at Westboro, Mo, following her death on Nov 27 at Mound City, Mo, where she has been ill for several months.

She had been [a] Clarinda resident for seven years, bookkeeper at Clarinda Elevator, and recently at Branding Iron. Her residence had been in Westboro where she was born July 14, 1912, to J [ohn] W [illiam] and Haddessa (Root) Johnston. She attended Westboro schools and business school at Chillicothe, Mo. She was married to Charles [Mahlon] Clement on April 16, 1932, at Centenal Church at Rock Port, Mo, her husband preceding her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs H A (Wilma) McCoy of Clarinda, three daughters, Mrs Robert (Pat) Fox of Mound City, Mo, Mrs Donald (Nancy) Martin of Westboro, Mo, Mrs Joyce Ostrom of Ottawa, Ill, a son, Joe Clement of North Bend, Neb, three grandchildren.

Burial was in Center Grove cemetery at Westboro following services at the Westboro United Methodist Church. The Rev Roger Wreath officiated. Davis Funeral Home made arrangements.

New Sharon services for Mrs Linstead

Relatives of Mrs Alfred Tillie Linstead, 101, of Taintor, Iowa, have learned of her death. None from here was able to attend the services, which were Wednesday [December 4, 1974] in New Sharon.

Mrs Linstead was [the] last of a family of 10, children of Ebenezer Bonsall, reared in the Taintor vicinity. She has a son, Alfred, in Texas. Her husband and two sons had preceded her in death.

Local relatives include nieces and nephews, Mrs Carl Gillespie, Mrs Harry Annan, Jake Bonsall of Clarinda, John Annan of Coin and Mrs Henry Annan of Shenandoah.

Kansas services for Mrs Stevenson

Mrs Marion (Laura Mclntyre) Stevenson, 94, of Topeka, Kan, mother of Mrs Angus McIntosh of Clarinda and Mrs John Cabeen of Blanchard, died Dec 5 and services were held Monday.

Her grandsons were casket bearers at the funeral held at Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel at Topeka.

She was born Oct 31, 1880, at Morning Sun, Ia. At the age of one year, she moved with her family to Mankato, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, a daughter Mrs Rhoda McCully, and a granddaughter, Hazel Cabeen.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs Edith Cabeen of Blanchard, Mrs Clara McIntosh of Clarinda and Mrs Esther McKnight of Eskridge, Kan, one son Waldo of Eskridge, Kan, one sister, Mrs Lela McElroy of Topeka, Kan, 15 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Those from this area attending the services included Mr and Mrs John Cabeen of Blanchard, Mr and Mrs Angus McIntosh and Mr and Mrs Lowell Oxley and Mary of Clarinda, Mr and Mrs Richard Cabeen of Bedford, Mr and Mrs Donald Cabeen and Peggy of Shenandoah and Lyle Cabeen of Red Oak.

Services Wednesday for Lawson Miller

[Edgar] Lawson Miller, 48, of   rural Clarinda died Sunday evening [December 8, 1974] at Municipal Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the day.

Mr Miller was born Sept 5, 1926, in Page County, the son of Ross [Edward] and Cassie [Felicia] Lawson Miller. On Sept 19, 1946, he was married to Audrey Oxley, who survives.

Mr Miller was the distributor for Mobil Oil Inc. He was a member of Hillside Chapel Missionary Church. He was a past president of the Page County Fair Board and was currently serving as secretary for the organization.

Survivors besides his wife Audrey of the home are sons, Larry and wife Debi Miller of Irving, Tex, Steven and wife Connie Miller, of Clarinda, and one daughter, Katherine Miller of the home. Two brothers are Dale Miller of Clarinda and Leo Miller of New Market. Sisters are Mrs B W (Elaine) Stephan of Dallas, Tex, Mrs Myron (Marilyn) Ives of Clarinda, Mrs Robert (Norma Jean) Hall of Cedar Falls, and Mrs Gerald (Joyce) Warder of Irving, Tex.

Funeral services for Mr Miller will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Trinity United Presbyterian Church with the Rev Ervin Ortmann officiating, assisted by the Rev Marvin Engbrecht and the Rev Wayne Fisher. Burial will be in Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery, southwest of town.

Memorials may be directed to the Hillside Chapel Missionary Church.

The family will meet friends from 7:30 to 9 pm, Tuesday evening at Walker Funeral Home.

Mrs Conway died in Arizona

Death of Mrs Zora [Belle] (Trimble) Conway, 78, at Mesa, Ariz, has been learned by friends. She was married to Dr [Martin] Beryl Feese, who died several years ago, living at Fairfield during most of her husband's professional career.

She was a native of Melrose, and for many years was from Tampa, Fla. Her father was a Clarinda optometrist with home on West Main St. Nearest living relative is Mrs Patti Semanek of Chandler, Ariz, daughter of the late Roland Feese.

Mrs Conway died at her home. Relatives had been unable to contact her at Thanksgiving time by phone and she was found dead at her home Dec 2, date of death being undetermined.

Gladys Thompson died Saturday

Mrs Miles [Henry] (Gladys) [Muriel Evangeline] Thompson, 75, formerly Mrs Wayne [Leroy] Earhart and daughter of Mr and Mrs A [nder] P [erry] Salgren, died last Saturday [December 7, 1974] at a hospital at Glendora, Calif. She had had a heart ailment a year, a recurrence last summer and a series of attacks recently.

Funeral services were to be in Orlando, Fla, with burial where her husband was placed at his death in 1955. She has five children, including Mrs Don (Carolyn) Lynam of Greenfield, Mrs Ron (Judith) Singleton of California, Mary Alice of Glendora, Calif, Thomas A of St Joseph, Mo. A son, Robert, died at Kansas City a year ago. Mrs Raymond (Helen) Earhart of Clarinda is a sister-in-law.

Services Saturday for Elsa Schollian

Mrs Harold (Elsa M [arie]) Schollian, 77, of Braddyville died early Wednesday morning [December 11, 1974] at West Heights Manor after having been ill since last July.

She was born April 11, 1897 at Smith Center, Kan, the daughter of Will [Henry Wilhelm] and Dorthea Giese Windscheffel. On April 5, 1916, she was married to Harold Schollian who survives. They made their first home at Havelock, Neb. In 1920 they moved to Madison, SD and came to Page County in 1932 where they have since made their home.

Mrs Schollian was baptized a German Lutheran and for 15 years has been attending the Braddyville Christian Church where she taught the adult Bible class.

Funeral services for Mrs Schollian will be at 2 pm Saturday at the Christian Church in Braddyville with Rev Bettie Hull officiating. Burial will be in the Braddyville cemetery.

Singers will be Maynard Burch and Mrs Hull with Mrs Maynard Burch organist. Casket bearers will be Arthur Barnett, Orphus Barnett, Dean Barnett, Arlo Sunderman, Bob Case and Cliff Bales. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Besides her husband of the home in Braddyville, Mrs Schollian is survived by three children: Willis R [aymond] Schollian of Omaha, Neb, Mrs Doris Parrott of Clarinda and Mrs S [ammie] J (Goldie) Young of Braddyville. There are 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Forrest Jones Wednesday

Forrest Jones, 75, of Grant City, Mo having been hospitalized since Oct 19 after hip injury, died Wednesday [December 11, 1974] at his home, just recently dismissed from the hospital at Mt Ayr.

Services are being held Friday, the funeral at 1:30 pm at Dunfee Funeral Home at Grant City, and the interment to be at the cemetery at Conway. Rev A J Green and Rev Howard Burnett will be officiating clergy. He had been plowing when he fell, fracturing the hip. Complications set in following the accident.

He was native of the Diagonal area, and lived as farmer in the Page and Taylor county areas. He had been member of the Assembly of God Church at Clarinda as early as 1947.

His wife survives him, as do two daughters, Mrs Marvin (Mae) Hamilton of New Market and Mrs Lowell (Joyce) Austin of Springfield, Mo, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Riley Byron Smith

Funeral services for Riley Byron Smith were held Oct 11 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda, conducted by Bettie Hull.

Mr Smith died Oct 8 at Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebr. Interment was at Old Memory Cemetery, New Market.

Riley Byron Smith, son of Riley and Rose Loan Smith was born May 22,1896 near Burlington Jct, Mo. He lived most of his life in and around Taylor, Page and Montgomery Counties.

He served his country in World War I and was a member of Legion Sergy post No 98.

On Feb 10, 1925 he was united in marriage at Maryville to Mildred Nowels of Bedford. To this union two children were born: Donald Edwin of Russell and Mrs Russell (Margaret) Linninger of Easton, Ks.

He was a farmer, trucker and grain dealer until his health failed. He also worked at the North Side Recreation Center in Clarinda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, an infant brother, two sisters, Maude and Geraldine and one grandchild. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred of Bedford: son, Donald and wife, Shirley; daughter, Margaret and her husband, Russell; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs Coy (Blanche) Jeffers of Siam; one niece, Mrs Maxine Smith of Council Bluffs; two nephews, Orville Manley of Siam and Wilbur Manley of Freeman, Mo.; one aunt, Mrs Lora Miller of Galva, Ill. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Military services were held at graveside by Sergy Post 98.

Services held for Glen Young

Glen W Young, 64, of Shambaugh died Thursday afternoon [May 23, 1974] while working on the water system that is being installed at Shambaugh. He was born Aug 12, 1909, at Sidney, the son of Walter Franklin and Etta Elizabeth Reed Young. He was married to Roberta Black on July 31, 1931.

For the past 20 years, Mr Young had worked on construction. He had retired last year and was going to be in charge of the Shambaugh water system. The family had lived in the Hawleyville area and moved to Shambaugh about 10 years ago. Mr Young attended school at Burlington Jct, Mo.

Services were held Monday afternoon [May 27, 1974] at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Lewis Hunter in charge. Jim McAlpin was soloist and Grace Perry organist. Casket bearers were Lloyd Lininger, Charley Geer, Willard Blessing, Leland Reeve, Wilbur McClarnon and Wendell McClarnon. Burial was in Ohio Cemetery at Burlington Jct.

Mr Young is survived by his wife of the home and three children: Dean E Young of Topeka, Kan, Mrs Richard (Darlene) Bix of Clarinda, and Mrs Gary (Delores) Crowdy of Clarinda. There are four grandchildren. His mother Mrs Etta Young lives at Clearmont, Mo. Two sisters are Mrs Leona Evans of Clearmont, and Mrs Cople (Louise) Porterfield of Belle Fourche, S D.

Ralph A [nderson] Gorell [Gorrell], a former Clarinda resident, died May l0 in Glendale, Cal. Burial was at Forest Lawn Cemetery there. Mr Gorell [Gorrell] had been a barber with his father and brother Orie.

Mrs Blake Pistole died at hospital

Funeral services for Mrs Lena Ann (Blake) Pistole, 78, were held Sunday [June 16, 1974] at the First Christian Church at Hopkins, Mo, following her death at Clarinda Municipal Hospital [June 14, 1974]. She had been a resident of a nursing home at Bedford and hospitalized less than a day.

She was a native of DeWitt, Neb. Two sisters are Mrs Rosa Van Fosson, of College Springs and Mrs Letha New of Clarinda, and four children, Mrs Ronald Andrews of Hopkins, and Mrs Harold Tribolet of Council Bluffs, John Pistole of Hopkins, and Dale Pistole of Kansas City. Her brother is Will Blake of Bedford.

Burial was in the cemetery at Hopkins

Attends services for Fox infant

Mr and Mrs Walter Kirchner received word of the sudden death of Jason Michael Fox, the 16-month-old son of Mr and Mrs Michael E Fox, of Kansas City, Mo, grandson of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rurode of St Joseph. The infant died Tuesday, May 21, at Childrens Mercy Hospital.

Services were held on Thursday [May 23, 1974] at St Stephens Lutheran Church in Liberty and graveside services were in St Joseph.

Those attending from this area were Ethel Wichman, Elaine Johnson, Ralph Huseman, Irma Nothwehr, Mr and Mrs Mervil Sunderman, Mr and Mrs Wesley Wichman, and Mr and Mrs Walter Kirchner.

Art Paxton retired farmer

SHAMBAUGH — Art [Eugene Arthur] Paxton, 76, who lived in the Clarinda vicinity prior to moving to Lorimor many years ago, died Thursday [June 27, 1974] at a Winterset hospital. Mr and Mrs Willard Blessing were among those attending the services held Thursday at Lorimor.

Paxton was a retired farmer. His wife [Wilma Grace Ellis Blessing] lives at a nursing home in Winterset. Their 55th wedding anniversary would be in September. The couple has three children, including Willard Blessing of Shambaugh, John Blessing of Los Angeles, Cal, and Mrs Everett (Ruth) Gibson of Winterset.

Cecil Cox was county farmer

Cecil Dorn Cox, farmer in the South Page County area, died May 20 [May 15, 1974], in Shenandoah.

Born Sept 27, [1889] the son of Fulton and Adaline Radford Cox, he received his education in Nebraska and Iowa Schools, and farmed in the Blanchard and Northboro areas until his retirement.

On Oct 30,1909, he married Eva Mae Jackson of Elmo, Mo. The couple had 10 children, and a grandson, Jerry Stanley, was also raised in the Cox home.

Preceding him in death were his wife, six children, three grandchildren, one sister and seven brothers.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Floyd (Violet) Bredensteiner of Northboro and Mrs Rankin (Nadine) Dinwiddie of Phelan, Cal, two sons, Edward Cox of Northboro and Ellis Cox of Omaha, and one sister, Mrs Jim (Ollie) McNair of Imperial, Neb. Seventeen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive.

Hackett Funeral Home was in charge of services.

[Fafrowicz, Joseph]

Joseph Fafrowicz native of Poland

Joseph Fafrowicz, 68, who came with his family to Clarinda from Poland in 1951 to farm with Albert Henke, died June 28. He had been hospitalized for 10 days with a heart condition and died in his sleep at the St Michael's Hospital in the Mosinee, Wis, area.

Services were held July 1 and interment was in Restlawn Memorial Park at Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Mr and Mrs Fafrowicz and Elizabeth were at the Henke farm about two years after the local family   and a   group of Clarinda men sponsored their coming to America. They moved to Chicago for a short time and then made their home at rural Mosinee, Wis, in the town of Guenther in Marathon County. He was born in Poland on Nov 10, 1904, and was married to Amelia Stoll in Poland on May 24, 1947.

Mrs Fafrowicz and daughter survive him. Elizabeth is now Mrs Stanley Rucinski of Chicago and has a daughter. It was Mrs Rucinski who has notified the Henke family of the father's death.

Dow Huntsman died Wednesday

[William] Dow Huntsman, 80, died Wednesday [July 10, 1974] at the Colonial Manor in Bedford where he had taken residence two days earlier. The retired farmer from the Gravity area had had a long illness.

Services will be at 2 pm Saturday   at   Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs Kenneth (Louise) Holland of Broken Arrow, Okla, son, Stanley of Clarinda and stepdaughter, Mrs Mildred Neller of St Helena, Calif, three grandchildren and five great - grandchildren. His sisters are Mrs Goldie Morehouse and Mrs Sue Morehouse.

He had lived on the farm northwest of Gravity for 47 years
