Services
for Mrs. Madge Murphy
COIN, MAR 7 -- Mrs. Madge [Draper] Murphy died at the West Heights Manor
Nursing Home in Clarinda Mar 6. Funeral services were held in the United
Methodist Church Mar 8 with the Rev L P Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial was in
Elmwood cemetery.

MADGE
DRAPER MURPHY
Madge Draper Murphy was born at Jamesport, Mo, February 11, 1899 and
died March 6, 1973. Her parents were J. [onathan] T. [homas] and Mary Ellen
[Ballinger] Draper.
On February 11, 1920 Madge was united in marriage with T. [homas] I. Murphy at Shenandoah. They lived most
of their married life in the Northboro and Coin vicinity.
She was a member of the Coin United Methodist Church and
the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, a
foster son, Dale Willis, and her husband in 1967.
She is survived by her three sons, Glen of Hamburg, Gerald (Bud) of Evergreen, Colo., Darrell of Coin and one daughter, Mrs.
Walter (Eloise) Eberle of Upton. Wyo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, one
great-grandson, one brother Doyle Draper of Villisca, three sisters. Lois (Mrs. Don)
Armstrong of
Coin, Hallie (Mrs. Herbert) Grady of Mt Prospect, Ill. and Marjorie (Mrs. Byron)
Richburg of
Neosho, Mo, a number of other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Murphy's services were held Thursday, March 8, 1973
at the United Methodist church at Coin with the words of comfort by the Rev
Lawrence Fitzpatrick. Mrs. William Smiley was soloist and Mrs. Robert Reece
organist. The flowers were in care of Mrs. Harold Fisher and Mrs. Duane
Johnson, memory register of Mrs. Letti Baugh and ushers were Ray Brownlee and W.
C. Yeisley.
Interment was in Elmwood cemetery at Coin, the bearers
being Randall Apperson, Glen Edwards, D Duane Johnson, Dale King, Donald Rolf
and Ray Stambaugh.

MISS
NAOMI GERTRUDE HENTSCH
Miss Naomi Gertrude Hentsch was born in Barmen-Elberfeld,
Germany on July 16, 1909, the daughter of Dr and Mrs. Paul O Hentsch who preceded her in death.
She attended grammar school and high school in Leipzig,
Germany. In 1927 she came to the United States to get her BA degree from
Carthage College, Carthage, Illinois. She returned to Germany and studied at
the University of Leipzig and Berlin. There she completed her medical studies
to become a certified Homeopathic Physician.
During the war she was active as a Homeopathic Physician
in the Armed Forces. In 1950 she returned to the United States and taught Home
Economics for 15 years. Most of them were in Iowa. Two years ago she retired
for health reasons.
She passed away in her sleep Jan 31, 1973 and is survived
by her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hentsch of Villisca, two sisters, Mrs.
Margaret Schultz and Mrs. Matilda Nash of Bedford, Iowa, a niece, Mrs. Steven Prekker, Albuquerque, New Mexico and 6
aunts, 1 uncle, and 37 cousins, all residing in Germany.
Funeral services were held on Saturday Feb 3, at the
Wolfe Funeral Home at Villisca, Iowa, Pastor John Duran of Bedford officiating.

Services
held for Shelley Jackson
Funeral services for Shelley Jackson, 15, of Ft Madison, and a former
Clarinda resident were held Sunday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in
Clarinda, with Rev Cecil Latta officiating.
She died last Monday morning at Sacred Heart Hospital in
Ft Madison after an illness that had extended to last August. Much of her care
had been in a hospital at Cedar Rapids.
She was born May 2, 1957, at Colville, Wash, and had come
to the Jackson’s' home in her first year. She attended grade and junior high
school in Clarinda prior to the family moving to Ft Madison. She was active in
many groups. She had become proficient in horseback riding, had gained [a]
place on the Clarinda swim team, had been presented in recital by her piano
instructor. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, participating in
youth choir and Sunday school at Clarinda, and had been in the choir at Ft
Madison. She was [a] member of Rainbow for Girls.
She is
survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Jackson of Ft Madison. Her grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Jackson of Red Oak and Mrs. Lela
Catuska of
Clarinda, were in attendance at the services.
Burial under the direction of Lavelle Funeral Home was in
the Clarinda Cemetery. Casketbearers were Dr James Campbell, Dr Willard Kuehn,
Ken Boardman, George Woolson, Charles Manuel and W J Huigens.
The Methodist Youth Choir sang under the direction of
Mrs. Maurice Rarick, accompanied by Mrs. Gene Garrett. At the register books
were Mrs. James Campbell and Mrs. Ron Corey. Ushers were Kenneth Garrett,
Kenneth Butler James Anderson and Orie Clayton.
The parents invited friends and relatives to join them
after the services at the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church.
A memorial fund is being established as an educational
fund for practical nursing students and nursing students who do not have funds
to continue their education. Contributions can be sent to the Lee County State
Bank at Fort Madison, Iowa.

Clarindan's
mother died in Missouri
Mrs. Stella May [Sumner] Hayden, 87, of Quitman, Mo, died
Wednesday in a St Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Hayden was born Aug 15, 1885 in Neodesha, Kan. She was married
to Walter J [ames] Hayden at Neodesha Feb 21, 1906. Hayden died Sept 13, 1972. She was a
member of the First Christian Church at Maryville.
Surviving are two sons, Charles W Hayden of Paola, Kan and Curtis
Hayden of
Clarinda, and eight daughters, Mrs. Rolland McGinness of Skidmore, Mrs. Lester
Pierpoint of
Quitman, Mrs. William Garrett, Mrs. John W Dowden and Mrs. Edwin Ballenger, all of Maryville, Mrs. LeRoy
Rickman of St
Joseph, Mrs. Lowell Holbrook of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Kenneth Leeson of Clarinda. There are, also
surviving, 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and seven great-great
grandchildren.
Services will be at Price Funeral Home in Maryville
Saturday at 2pm with Rev Harry B Spears officiating. Burial will be in Nodaway
Memorial Gardens.

Mrs.
Albert Gust died at hospital
Mrs. Albert (Hulda C) Gust, 72, of Clarinda died Friday noon
at Municipal Hospital where she had been admitted earlier in the day after
having suffered a stroke at her home at 322 N 12th St.
She was born May 8,1900, near Stanton, the daughter of Franz
and Hilma Anderson Peterson. She was married to Albert Gust May 27, 1934.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Gust is survived by two daughters: Mrs.
Harold LeRoy (Carolyn) Foster of Clarinda and Mrs. Paul (Mildred) Discher of Marshall-town. There are six
grandchildren.
Two brothers are Theodore Peterson of Stanton and Ivan Peterson of Red Oak. Four sisters are Mrs.
Hilma Monson of
Essex, Mrs. Anna Kindberg of Omaha, Mrs. Clara Patterson of Norfolk, Neb, and Mrs.
Selma Kirby of
Omaha.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at St
John Lutheran Church with Pastor Carl Lueker in charge. Mrs. Leland Herzberg
was organist. Ushers were Darrel Wichman and Melvin Freudenburg. Lucille Blume
and Florence Wagoner were in charge of the registers.
Casket bearers were Willard Larson, Alfred Sump, Bill
Kirchner, Wilbert Wagoner, Wendell Otte and Albert Henke. Burial was in the
Clarinda Cemetery with Walker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements

Eighmy services held in Bedford
Funeral services for Gayol Clayton Eighmy, 75, were held Friday at the
Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial was in Washington Cemetery at
Gravity.
Mr. Eighmy was born near Gravity June 15,1897, to John [Dow] and
Martha Price Eighmy,
and grew to adulthood in Taylor County. He was married to Letha Perkins at Bedford on Feb 25, 1917, who
survives him. They have children, Mrs. Mildred Goslin of Nampa, Idaho, Earl Eighmy of Clarksville, Tenn., Mrs.
Marie Eighmy of
Fontanelle and Mrs. Herby (Lorraine) DeBolt of New Market.
He operated farms for many years, and operated a portable
feed mill and was mechanic for Wilson Implement Co at Bedford until retirement.

Former
resident died in Oregon
Mrs. Vera W [Orme] Ingram, former resident of Clarinda,
died Saturday at Portland, Ore, where she had made her home for nine years. Her
husband Clyde [Robins] preceded her in death in
1964.
She is survived by her children: Clyde R [obins]
Ingram Jr. of Cutbank,
Mont, Mrs. Mildred Welch of Spanaway, Wash, Mrs. Pauline Couts of Milwaukie, Ore, and Jean
Ingram of
Portland, Ore. There are eight grandchildren, 12 great - grandchildren and one
great - great -grandchild. Mrs. Neva Reynolds of Villisca is a sister.
Graveside services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday at the
Clarinda cemetery with Rev Cecil Latta officiating. The body will lie in state
at Walker Funeral Home Tuesday and until time of service Wednesday.

Blakslee rites at Villisca Friday
Rena [Hamilton Pendergraft] Blakslee of Hepburn died at Municipal
Hospital in Clarinda last Tuesday.
She is survived by a son, George L [yall] Pendergraft of Sacramento, Calif., and a
daughter, Mrs. Genevieve Andrew of Villisca, three step - daughters and a stepson.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Wolfe Funeral
Home in Villisca with Pastor Dennis Neal officiating. Interment was at the
Villisca Cemetery.

Chase services
held Sunday
William D Chase, 88, father of Franklin Chase of New Market, died Friday at
the Shenandoah hospital where he had been under care for two weeks. Services
were held Sunday with the Rev A R Sorenson officiating.
He had retired from farming, residing in Shenandoah with
a daughter, Miss Virginia Chase. Two sons are Franklin Chase, New Market, and Donald Chase, Red Oak; eleven grandchildren
and eight great grandchildren.

Ross
Davison dies in west
PLUM GROVE, Feb 19 - Mrs. Ira Chesnut received news of the death of a
cousin, Ross Davison, 85, on Feb 9 at a nursing home at Kirkland, Wash. He had been in
ill health. He has a daughter, Mrs. Dora Scott. His wife passed away several
years ago. He had lived in and near Braddyville, and worked in a bakery at
Wichita, Kan. Burial was in Shearer Cemetery east of Braddyville.

Davison lived near Braddyville
BRADDYVILLE -- Ross Davison, 84, formerly retired on a small
farm near here prior to 1964, died Feb 8 at Lake Vue Gardens in Kirkland, Ore.
Burial was in Shearer cemetery Feb 17 by the side of his wife. Memorial
services had been held at Kirkland with Pastor Carlstrom, minister for the
deaf, in charge.
He had been living at Kirkland to be near his daughter.
He was born on a farm east of Braddyville Sept 17, 1888,
son of Silas Davison and Dora Coughman Davison. He is survived by his daughter
and son in law Mr. and Mrs. Howard (Dora) Scott, three grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
He attended Pine School, then enrolled at the Iowa School
for the Deaf at Council Bluffs in 1903. He was graduated in 1909 as
valedictorian.
He was employed by Wolfs bakery in Wichita, Kans., for
nearly 40 years. His wife died in 1964 while they were at Braddyville.

Cecil
Parris, 75,
died unexpectedly
Cecil Parris, 75, died unexpectedly Sunday at his winter home in
Indian Lake, Fla., while he and Lillian were entertaining Dr, and Mrs. Norman Johnson of
Clarinda He had been active with golf and his normal activities, but went to the
hospital for treatment for a cold, Dr Johnson reported to friends here by
phone, suggesting that the death could have been from a blood clot. The body is
being flown back to Savannah, Tenn., which has been the Parris home since
leaving from Clarinda. Burial is expected to be at Savannah, exact details
lacking here.
Mr. and Mrs. Parris came to Clarinda from Sioux City when the Parris
- Dunn Corp was formed in the early 1940's for manufacturing of the wind
charger and later the training guns. Cecil was a native of the South.
He had retired from active manufacturing, his brother, Bill taking over the
manufacturing of the games and rifles at the Tennessee location.

Mrs.
May Johnson died
at hospital
Mrs. May Evalena Johnson, 85, of rural Clarinda, died
Friday evening shortly after being brought to Municipal Hospital by the rescue
squad. Mrs. Johnson was the widow of Henry C Johnson who died Feb 16, 1962.
She was born Aug 6, 1887, near Bethesda, the daughter of August
and Amanda Johnson Swanson. She
and her son Ronald lived 10 miles northwest of Clarinda.
Besides her son, Ronald, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs.
Charles (LaDonna) Spraker of San Diego, Cal, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday at Bethesda
Lutheran Church with Pastor Gudmund Petersen officiating. Mrs. Marion Johnson
will be soloist and Mrs. Orville Swanson organist. Mrs. Charles Larson and Mrs.
Oliver Swanson will be in charge of registers. Ushers will by James Lundberg
and Wayne Sederburg. Flower bearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Ed Erickson, Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Anderson and Mrs. Helen Hooper.
Casket bearers will be Verl Nadgwick, Leland Tillman,
Norman Setterburg, Curtis Meier, Wesley Lundgren and Delaine Lundgren. Burial
will be in the church cemetery with Walker Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Mrs.
Steel died at West Heights
Mrs. I [ris] V [ernon] (Gladys [Viola]) Steel, 73, of Shambaugh died Saturday morning
at West Heights Manor where she had been for the past six weeks. She had been
in failing health in recent years, and in the Municipal Hospital for emergency
treatment during recent months.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at
Walker Funeral Home with Rev M Francis Hubbel officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Scott will be in charge of music. Casket bearers will be Glen Long, Gary
Hutcheson, Lee Brown, Jack Weaver, Dan R Petersen, and Don Delzell. Burial will
be in the Clarinda Cemetery.
She was born March 29,1899, in Oklahoma, the daughter of George
and Anna Laughlin.
On Feb 22,1925, she was married to I [ris] V [ernon] Steel. Mr. and Mrs.
Steel had lived
in Clarinda prior to moving to Shambaugh in 1960. They have been active in the
First Baptist Church in Clarinda.
She is survived by her husband of the home and five
children: Mrs. Clair (Betty) Edwards of Fontanelle, Mrs. Kenneth (Marie) Fine of Windsor, Colo., Mrs.
Kenneth (Mildred) Gray of Villisca, Bill Steel of Carlisle, and Mrs. Barbara Batten of New Market. There are 15
grandchildren and five great - grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a
sister, one infant son and one grandson.

Granger infant services held
Services for Raquel Granger, 3 1/2-month-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Granger of Clarinda, were held this morning at the Lavelle Funeral Home, with Rev S
Marvin Johnson officiating. The vocalist was Gary Shum, accompanied by Mrs.
Gene Garrett.
Burial was at Norman, Neb, which is south of Minden. The
baby was dead on arrival at the Municipal Hospital Saturday afternoon.
She was born Nov 25, 1972 at Clarinda. The Granger family moved to Clarinda in
August of 1971, Granger the wrestling coach in the Clarinda school system. The
address is 311 North 2lst St.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her twin, Michelle and another sister, Tonya. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Granger of Minden, Neb, and Mrs. Mildred Borgaart of Kearney. Neb.

Services
held for Mrs. Guenther
MASON TOWNSHIP -- Funeral services for Mrs. Anna M [ae]
Guenther, 87,
were held this Monday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home and burial in the
Clarinda cemetery.
She died Friday at the rural home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bordon, south of New Market, where she has made her home for
nine years. She had had a heart condition, and had broken her hip in a fall
during her late years.
She was born May 11, 1885, at Greenville, Tenn., to John
C [alvin] and Mary Frances McNeese. She was married Jan 11, 1903 to Albert (Allie)
Guenther who
died Aug 24, 1955.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Gladys)
Bordon, south of
New Market, and Mrs. Dorothy Cooper of Clarinda and one son Harold of Bedford. There are six
grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mrs. Lillie [Gertrude] Hughes of Clarinda is a sister. A son, Glenn, died several years ago.
Carl Cummings officiated at the service with Maynard
Burch soloist and Joyce Burch organist. Casket bearers were John Harness,
Lavern Young, Carroll McKay, Elza West, Dale Martindale and Bill McDonald.

Warren
A Fleming died at rest home
Warren A [lbert] Fleming, 79, died Sunday afternoon at
Gillespie Rest Home where he had been a patient for a month.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday at
Walker Funeral Home with Rev D C Davis officiating. Masonic services will be
held at Clarinda cemetery.
He was born Sept 18, 1893, at Page Center, the son of Charles
and Margaret McCunn Fleming. On June 8, 1920, he was married to Gladys Carmichael who survives. He farmed until
retirement in 1951 when they moved to Clarinda. He was a member of Westminster
Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, and two daughters: Mrs.
Fred (Helen) Conrad of Clarinda and Mrs. David (Dorothy) Kaufman of Homewood, Ill. They have 7
grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Mrs. Clarence Seaburg of Stanton is a sister.

OAK HILL, MAR 26—Word has been received of the
death of Mrs. Joe (Dorothy) Cary, a former resident of the Oak Hill Vicinity. Funeral was
Saturday at Red Oak.

Taylor
County native died
Mrs. Leafa Williams, a Taylor County native, died May 22 at Des
Moines and services were held Thursday at the Ellston Methodist Church. Burial
was in the Cedar Memorial Park at Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Williams, the daughter of Parker and Eva Stafford Raynor, had lived in Cedar Rapids
several years and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., after the death of her husband, Leo, in 1948.
Starting in February of 1972 she made her home with her niece and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Vincent Dukes of Ellston.
She was a member of the Central Christian Church in
Phoenix and involved in several organizations.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Effa Cumming of Bedford and Mrs. Fern
Joslyn of Chico,
Cal; a nephew, Lewis Joslyn of Clarinda, and a niece, Mrs. Leslie Yearous of New Market.

Herbert
Peirson burial
in Illinois
Herbert Peirson, former Clarindan employed with the Coca Cola Bottling
Co, died Friday at a nursing home in Sedalia, Mo, where he had been making his
home.
Charles, a son, came through Clarinda from his home at Hastings, Neb, to inform
friends. The Peirson home in Clarinda was on North 17th
Street. A daughter, Miss
Elizabeth Peirson lives in Los Angeles, Cal.
His wife, Pauline, died in 1950. She was school nurse while here.
The family had come from the St Louis area. Herb had received his 50-year Masonic
membership.
Services were being held in Sedalia this Monday and
burial was to be in Illinois where his wife was buried.

Clarindan’s
brother died at Red Oak
Funeral services for Clyde [Raymond] Sellers, 54, brother of Paul Sellers of Clarinda, were held April 12,
and burial in the Red Oak cemetery. He died April 9 at the Red Oak hospital. He
was owner of Sellers Feed Service at Elliott, and was [a] World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Lois [Louise Woods], eight children, Clyde Jr.,
Terry, Tom, Jeff, and Artie, of Red Oak, Harley of Elliott, Mrs. Marvin Maxwell and Mrs.
Ramond Demanett,
of Red Oak; 13 grandchildren. Mrs. Lance Johnson of Villisca is a sister.
