George Farmer funeral Tuesday

Funeral services for Mr. George W. Farmer, 75, of Clarinda will be at 11 am Tuesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. John Clark officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm this Monday.

Mr. Farmer died Saturday evening at Municipal Hospital.

He was born Dec. 8, 1907 at Benton, Ia, the son of George and Elizabeth Waight Farmer.

In 1952 he was married to Roberta Lamb who survives.

He had been a mink rancher and had worked at Page and Hill Mfg. Co.

Besides his wife of the home he is survived by two children: Mark Farmer and Joni Farmer both of Clarinda and a grandchild, Joshua. Mrs. Lillian House of Arispie, Ia, is a sister and Bill Lathop of Port Angles, Wa, is a brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jeffry Lynn, one sister and one brother.

Graveside services will be at 2 pm, Tuesday at Rose Hill cemetery at Mt. Ayr.

Gary Forbes funeral Wednesday

Relatives here have learned of the death of Gary Forbes, 44, of Farragut Saturday evening in the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital after suffering a massive heart attack.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday in Shenandoah. Memorial rites will begin at 11 am at the Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Farragut; one brother, Donald Forbes of Shenandoah; his mother, Hazle (McNutt) Forbes, also of Shenandoah. He was preceded in death by his father, Hollis Forbes.

The Forbes family are longtime residents of this area. In recent years Gary and his wife had made their home in Farragut.

Funeral services are pending at Walker-Merrick   Funeral   Home for Mark Goodwin, 78, of Braddyville.

Mr. Goodwin a longtime Braddyville businessman died Wednesday evening at his home in Braddyville.

Survivors include his wife Ellen, one sister Mary Chaffee of Independence, Mo., one aunt Nora Scott, Sebring, Fl, and nieces and nephews.

Carl Hanson funeral Saturday

Funeral service for Carl R. Hanson, 74, of rural Villisca will be at 10:30 am Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with Rev. Steven Wainwright officiating.

Masonic services will be at 7 pm Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with visitation following the service.

Mr. Hanson died Tuesday afternoon at his home north of Bethesda.

He was born Sept. 28, 1908, near Bethesda, the son of Carl Anton and Johanna Nelson Hanson.

On June 6, 1937 he was married to Violet Fryer who preceded him in death on June 13, 1981.

Mr. Hanson was a farmer and trucker.

He is survived by three children: David Hanson of Roseburg, Or; Mrs. Jim (Jeanette) Weakly of Ann Arbor, Mi, and Mrs. Marvin (Roberta) Reents of Clarinda. There are nine grandchildren. Brothers are Robert Hanson of rural Villisca and Arthur Hanson of Clarinda. Mrs. Dagmar Nicholas of Amarillo, Tx, is a sister.

Burial will be in Villisca cemetery with Wolfe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Iva Hensley funeral Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. Iva Hensley, 94, of Clarinda will be at 1:30 pm, Friday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. John Clark officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm, this Thursday evening.

Mrs. Hensley died Tuesday evening at Bedford Manor Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past three years.

She was born Sept. 24, 1889, at New Market, the daughter of David and Anna Ward Hankins.

In 1910 she was married to Jim Hensley who preceded her in death in 1965. They lived in Taylor County until moving to Clarinda in 1948.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elvin (Maxine) Campbell of Clarinda, one grandchild and one great-grandchild. Grover Hankins of Shenandoah is a brother and Frederick Handorf of Bedford is a son-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Lucille Handorf, one sister and two brothers.

Burial will be in Clarinda.

Clyde Huddle Braddyville native

Clyde Huddle, 62 of La Vista, Ne, died Aug. 10, 1985 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha following a long illness.

He was born July 20, 1923 near Braddyville, the son of Archie and Vinnie Moffitt Huddle. He was married to Dorothy Lieber who survives. Besides his wife of the home survives one son, Steve Huddle of Shenandoah, seven stepsons and daughters, one brother, John Huddle of Boulder, Co, and an aunt, Goldie Huddle of Shambaugh.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson, Ne, with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

[Huddle, Dolly May Fickess]

Dolly May Huddle, age 97, of Sanger, Texas, died Wednesday, Jan 8, 2003 at Care Inn of Sanger. She was born on June 29, 1905 at Emporia, Kansas, to John Wesley and Nioma (Butterton) Fickess.

 She married [Ora] Clarence Huddle on March 18, 1928 in Clarinda, Iowa. He passed away on June 10, 1974.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanger. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by daughters Eva Nadine Ellis of Claremont, South Dakota and Verla May Shippey of Sanger, Texas sons Clarence Wendell Huddle of Albuquerque, New Mexico and John Wesley Huddle of Coos Bay, Oregon, and sister Ruth Holms of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Graveside services were held at Shearer Cemetery in Braddyville, Ia, Jan 14, 2003 with Doyle Ellis officiating.

Emery Huddle funeral Friday

Funeral services for Emery A. [allen] Huddle, 85 of rural Clarinda will be at 2 pm Friday at the Shambaugh Missionary Church with Rev. Bob Thompson and Rev. Arlan Hoskins officiating.

Mr. Huddle died Tuesday morning at Municipal Hospital where he was admitted on Friday.

He was born Oct. 17, 1898, near Braddyville, the son of John Christopher and Ida Mae Foster Huddle.

On Feb. 16, 1921 he was married to Goldie Linebaugh who survives.

Mr. Huddle was a lifelong farmer.

Besides his wife of the home he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Hoskins of Clarinda, Mrs. Orval (Edna Ruth) Brenneman of Clearmont, Mo, and Mrs. Sam (Rose Ann) Shuttlesworth of Clarinda. There are 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Archie.

Burial will be in Shearer cemetery near Braddyville.

EMERY ALLEN HUDDLE

Emery Allen Huddle, son of John Christopher [Huddle] and Ida Mae Foster, was born near Braddyville, Iowa, October 17, 1898) and departed this life on November 1, 1983, at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital at the age of 85 years.

On February 16, 1921, Emery was united in marriage with Goldie Linebaugh in Braddyville, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters, Thelma, Edna Ruth, and Rose Ann. He was a life-long farmer in Page county.

In 1935 he was invited to attend services at the Shearer Church, where he was converted under the ministry of the late Orval Hoskins. He was active in his church throughout his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Archie.

Besides his wife of the home he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Hoskins of Clarinda, Mrs. Orval (Edna Ruth) Brenneman of Clearmont, Mo, and Mrs. Sam (Rose Ann) Shuttlesworth of Clarinda, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, many brothers and sisters in the family of God, and many other friends.

Funeral services were held in Shambaugh at the Missionary Church Friday afternoon on November 4. Services were conducted by-Rev. Bob Thompson, assisted by Rev. Arlan Hoskins. Burial was in the Shearer Cemetery.

[Huddle, Golda Mahala “Goldie” Linebaugh]

Golda Mahala (Linebaugh) Huddle, “ Goldie”, age 105, of rural Shambaugh, IA, passed from this life on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Westridge Care Center, Clarinda, IA. She was born July 20, 1902 near Clearmont, MO. She attended the Maple Grove school near Clearmont and Braddyville High School. She was married to Emery [Allen] Huddle in 1921. To this marriage were born three daughters: Thelma married Donald Hoskins, Edna Ruth married Orval Brenneman, and Rose Ann married Sam Shuttlesworth. Goldie and Emery lived east of Braddyville until 1970 when they moved to their farm by Shambaugh where she lived until she was 103. They attended the Shearer church until services there were discontinued after which they attended church in Shambaugh, known today as Harvest Fellowship.

Besides being a dedicated homemaker, Goldie worked at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. In her later years (until age 96) she was primary caregiver for her daughter during the week, returning home on weekends to tend house and go to church. Her home was an open door to all. Her many descendants often stopped by to visit, gathering especially on Sundays. When she turned 100 she “retired” from baking her homemade pies. Those who knew her well confided in her to support them in prayer, and she was faithful to follow through, well beyond their request. She was blessed with a sharp mind and until her 105th birthday she was the one to ask to keep us in touch with the rest of the family.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Emery; parents Isaiah and Mary (Hostetter) Linebaugh; daughter, Edna Ruth Brenneman; sons-in-law Donald Hoskins, Sam Shuttlesworth; and grandson, Mike Hoskins. Direct descendants number the three daughters, twenty-two grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Goldie Huddle, 105 of Shambaugh, IA will be Tuesday, Nov 20, 2007 at Shambaugh Harvest Fellowship Church with Pastor Scott Denham officiating. Interment will be at Shearer Cemetery. Family visitation will be held 7-8 p.m. Monday, Nov 19 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Building Fund for Harvest Fellowship Church. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond [Glen] Huddle, 77, of Villisca, died Wednesday evening at Municipal Hospital. He was a native of Braddyville and farmed in that area until moving to Villisca 25 years ago.

He was born Dec. 30, 1906 in Braddyville to Noah [Sutphin] and Lettie Maxwell Huddle.

He was married to Rhoda [Beatrice] Monzingo in 1933 and she preceded him in death in 1938. He was married to Elna Kaelke on Aug. 28, 1940.

He is survived by his wife, Elna, of Villisca; one son, Carroll Huddle of Lincoln, Ne; one daughter, Mrs. Lavern (Evelyn) Reynolds of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; one great grandchild and three step-great grandchildren. Mrs. Clarence Huddle of Albuquerque, NM, is a sister-in-law.

Funeral services are pending a Walker-Merrick Funeral Home.

Vinnie Huddle former resident

Vinnie Huddle, wife of the late Archie Huddle, died this Thursday morning at St Josephs Hospital in Omaha, Ne, after a lingering illness. She was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Frances Strawbridge Moffitt, and spent most of her lifetime in Page County. In later years, she has lived in Nebraska.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at the side of her husband in the Shearer Cemetery near Braddyville.

Services for Vinnie June Huddle, age 80, were Saturday at 10:30 am at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Vinnie June Huddle was born June 11, 1894, at Nodaway County, Mo., to Leroy Moffitt and Alie [Frances Alveria] Strawbridge Moffitt. She lived most of her life in the Clarinda area. In 1970 she moved to Bellevue, Ne. to be near her son. Her health had been failing the last year and a half and she passed away in St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Ne, where she had been the last month. She was preceded in death by her husband Archie [Rex] Huddle in 1962. She is survived by son Clyde Huddle of Papillion, Ne., son John Huddle of Boulder, Co, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Shearer Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Steve Huddle, Dave Huddle, Jonny Stevens, Robert Cade, Larry Cooper, Robert Mawhinney. Officiating was Rev. Donald Briley of Albany, Mo.

Melvin Kane, 66, of Council Bluffs, died Thursday at a rental property he owned in Shambaugh.

He is survived by two sons, Gary of Council Bluffs and Paul of Portland, Or.

Funeral services were, held Saturday with interment in the Cedar Lawn cemetery in Council Bluffs.

Clarence Moore funeral Friday

Rev. Clarence Moore, 94, died Tuesday at Bethesda Care Center where he had been since last July.

He was born June 21, 1889 at St. George, WV, the son of Andrew and Mary Stewart Moore. He was a minister in Southwest Iowa for over 50 years after beginning his ministry as a circuit rider in the West Virginia hills for three years. During his ministry, he officiated at 500 baptisms, 200 marriages and 600 funerals.

He was married to Nora E. Judy on April 7, 1915 and she died on Feb. 8, 1920. He was then married to Florence Castle on April 24, 1921 and she died on Jan. 1, 1978.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alan (Virginia) Mendenhal of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren. Grant Whitney of Clarinda is a nephew and Lois Laverty of New Market is a niece.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 pm at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Miller and Carl Cummings officiating. Burial will be in the Summit cemetery near Yorktown. Memorials may be directed to the Methodist Church.

Earl Murren funeral Friday,

Funeral services for Earl P. [hilip] Murren, 90, of the New Market and Clarinda areas will be at 10:30 am, Friday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Fred and Sara Malone officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm, this Thursday evening.

Mr. Murren died Wednesday morning at Municipal Hospital after several months illness.

He was born March 8, 1893, near Hepburn, the son of Joshua[ James]  and Jemima Ridenour Murren.

On Dec. 24, 1916 he was married to Edith [Ellen] Riggle who preceded him in death July 21, 1972.

Mr. Murren had been a farmer, worked at Swift & Co. and retired from employment at M.H.I.

He is survived by eight children, Clifford of Clarinda, Cleo of Southwest City, Mo; Mrs. Claude (Loraine) Miller of Grant City, Mo; Mrs. Glen (Velma) Snodgrass of Perry, Ok; Mrs. Leonard (Maxine) Anderson of Dexter, Ia; Mrs. Edwin (Evelyn) Briggs of New Market, Mrs. Sheridan (Charlotte) Mallott of Rudd, Ia, and Larry of Hennessy, Ok. There are 22 grandchildren, several step grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters and two children in infancy.

Burial will be in Clarinda cemetery.

Memorial may be directed to the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Miss Pauline Fern Phipps, 65, died Monday at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

She was born Aug. 19, 1918 at Elmo, Mo, the daughter of Charley and Nellie Carlton Phipps. She spent most of her life in Creston and was engaged in domestic work.

She is survived by her parents of Clarinda; three brothers, Virgil of Portland, Or; Melvin of Newburg, Mo, and Rex of Carlton, Or; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Juanita) Rucker of Hillsboro, Or, and Mrs. Hilton (Margaret) Grimes of Harlan.

Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with burial in the Clarinda cemetery.

BONNIE B. SCHOLES

Bonnie Blanche Scholes, daughter of George W. and Flora Robinson Reed was born near Shambaugh, Ia, July 29, 1890, and departed this life on November 17, 1983 at the St. John District Hospital, St. John, Ks. She was 93 years old.

On August 20, 1913, Bonnie was united in marriage to Elmer N. Scholes at Shambaugh, Ia. There were two children, Lawrence and Thelma. She lived in Page County for most of her life, although she and her husband lived in Eskridge, Ks, for twenty years, where the children grew up.

She was active in her church, throughout her life, until ill health prevented. She was a member of the Braddyville Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, four sister, two brothers, her husband, Elmer Scholes and daughter, Thelma Owen.

She had lived near her son, Lawrence Scholes, at Sylvia, Ks, for five years. She was a resident in the St. John, Ks, Hearthstone Nursing Home at the time of her death.

She is survived by: her son, Lawrence, and wife Silva of Sylvia, Ks; her son-in-law, James Owen of Clarinda; one grandson, Lanny Scholes of Pratt, Ks; four granddaughters, Kay Ellis of Coldwater, Ks; Cheryl Smith of Sterling, Ks; Lt. Rachel Owen of Roeland Park, Ks; Lorna Owen of Bologna, Italy; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Ross Calhoun; nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held in Braddyville at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, on November 20, 1983. Services were conducted by a granddaughter, Lt. Rachel Owen, Salvation Army. Burial was in the Covenanter Cemetery near Clarinda.

Virginia McCune Shannon passed away in Omaha

Funeral services for Virginia McCune Shannon, 58, of Omaha, formerly of the Clarinda area will 3e at 3:30 pm Friday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Fisher officiating.

Mrs Shannon died Wednesday morning at St Joseph's Hospital in Omaha after having been ill since last March.

She was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Page County, the daughter of Samuel and Ethel Butler McCune. She was graduated from Clarinda High School in 1938.

In recent years she had lived in Omaha.

Survivors include a son Phillip Shannon of Red Oak, a daughter, Mrs Gary (Kathleen) Seebach, Dayton, Oh, and four grandchildren. Her mother is Mrs. S.Y. McCune of Clarinda. Harold McCune of Bedford is a brother and sisters are Mrs. Pauline Flynn of Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Carl (Marjorie) Winger of Hopkins, Mo.

Grace Perry will be organist. Casket bearers will be Roger Flynn, Craig Donaldson, Gary Seebach, Jack Andrew, Dick Campbell, and Dennis Jeffers.

Burial will be in the North Page Cemetery.

Huddle relative killed in Texas

BRADDYVILLEMrs Dolly Huddle of Braddyville went to Texas last week to attend the funeral of her granddaughter, Merlina Shippey, daughter of Merlin and Verla Huddle Shippey of Dallas.

Miss Shippey and a male companion were killed by unknown assailants in a roadside park or rest area in the Dallas area on Sunday evening, June 24, and the funeral was held on June 28.

Miss Shippey is survived by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Scoville child   dies of cancer

SHAMBAUGH---Dustin Scoville, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Bob) Scoville of Williamsburg, Ia, died March 7 after a two-year illness with cancer. Other than his parents, he leaves an older brother Ben. Services will be Friday in Williamsburg.

The father was raised on a farm southeast of Shambaugh, moving there with his parents, the late Mark and Zeta Scoville, when he was a baby. He is a graduate of South Page High School.

Mrs. Creola Jane Tally, 76, of Braddyville died Monday morning at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

She was born Jan. 3, 1907, in Page County, the daughter of John and Mae Thompson Beery.

She was married to Connor Tally who preceded her in death in 1970. Mrs. Tally had worked at M.H.I.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Pearcy of Clinton, Mo, five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Sisters are Mrs. Onida Eberly of Villisca, Mrs. Anna Miller of Clarinda, Mrs. Louie McColm of Bedford and Mrs. Julia Eberly of Ronald, Wa, and a host of relatives and friends.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one sister, a son Floyd, and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Loren Daly officiating.

Burial was in Clarinda cemetery.

Mr. Lonnie Thomas, 91, of Clarinda died Saturday morning at Bethesda Care Center where he had been for the past four years.

He was born Dec. 22, 1891, in Page County, the son of Ira Newton and Mary Alice Dougherty Thomas.

In 1912 he was married to Tammar Peterman who preceded him in death in 1979.

Mr. Thomas had been a farmer.

He is survived by three children: Mrs. Creola Coral Clayton of Council Bluffs, Mrs. George (Roxa) Woldruff of Clarinda and Mrs. Rollie (Wanda Lea) Jones of Port Orchard, Wa. There are 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Ray Thomas of Soquel, Ca, is a brother and Gladys Pruett of Baxter Springs, Ks, is a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Malone officiating.

Burial was in Clarinda cemetery.

A Blanchard native he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wheeler.

He was a career man in the Navy and retired to Lake Bluff several years ago.

Survivors include his wife Alice Copeland Wheeler of the home and three sons, William of Bremerton, Wa., Robert of Houston, Tx., and John of Lake Bluff. Betty Davis of Clarinda is a sister and Gene Wheeler of San Diego, Ca., a brother.

Graveside services will be held this Friday at 1:30 pm at the Blanchard Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Thursday evening at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home from 7-8:30 pm.
