Moody, Larry Leroy - Larry Leroy Moody was born February 11, 1936 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Dorcas (Cloyd) Moody. He passed away suddenly on Monday afternoon, December 7, 2009 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 28 days.

Larry grew up in rural Page and Fremont County and graduated from Riverton High School in 1955. Following High School he served in the National Guard. On February 18, 1965, he was united in marriage to Karen Bredensteiner in Shenandoah.

Following high school Larry went to work for American Meter in Nebraska City. After 15 years he went to work as a farmhand, worked for the Fremont County Secondary Roads Department and finally worked for Eaton Corporation where he retired from. He was a past member of the Eagle’s Lodge in Nebraska City. Larry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tinkering with small engines and other things in his shed. After his retirement, Larry enjoyed helping on the farm, especially during harvest.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson.

Survivors include his wife Karen of Farragut, Iowa; is children, Dana Mayberry and her husband Aaron of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Rick Holman and his wife Shelly of Milford, Iowa, Larry Holman and his wife Shawn of Farragut, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, Randi Scott and her husband Christopher of Chicago, Illinois, Lindsay Krog and her husband Andrew of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Eric Holman and his wife Jennifer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mandy Holman of Milford, Iowa, Brock Holman of Milford, Iowa, Brett Holman of Milford, Iowa, Scott Laumann and his wife Carrie of Farragut, Iowa, Amy Laumann of Malvern, Iowa, Blair Holman of Farragut, Iowa; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Gloria Most of Shenandoah, Iowa, Gary Moody and his wife Gayle of Northboro, Iowa, Terry Moody of Burlington, Iowa, Glenda Sandahl of Shenandoah, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Beth Bredensteiner of Shenandoah, Iowa, Lois Vowen of Westchester, Pennsylvania, Effie Bredensteiner of Farragut, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.

Moody, Melvin W. - Melvin W. Moody was born on June 25, 1925 in Riverton, Iowa, the son of Lester and Ruth(Dahlgren) Moody. Melvin entered into eternal peace on Monday morning, April 27, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Melvin attended school in Hamburg, Iowa. During his senior year, and at the age of 18, Melvin was drafted into the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific during WW II and returned home after 3 years of faithful service. Upon returning home, Melvin continued his high school education and graduated from Hamburg High School.
On April 6, 1947, Easter Sunday, Melvin was united in marriage to Peggy Broughton in Hamburg, Iowa. The couple was later blessed with a daughter, Marsha.
Melvin owned and operated “Melvin Moody Trucking” in Riverton, Iowa. He specialized in hauling grain and corn for the local farmers. He was a hard working and dedicated husband and father.
Some of Melvin’s interest included camping, playing pool at the Senior Center, and putting together puzzles. He was former president of the Shenandoah Senior Center and was also a member of the American Legion.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers; Bernard, Orvis and Ray.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 62 years Peggy of Shenandoah; daughter Marsha Pusch and husband Ed of Omaha, NE; grandchildren; Julie Kelly and husband Tim of Charlottesville, VA, Randall Pusch of Omaha, NE and Daniel Pusch and wife Erin also of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren; Sean, Erin and Sarah Kelly; sister Dorothy Thomas and husband Michael of Hamburg, IA; other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home with Rev, Clark Finehout officiating. Phyllis Wolford attended the memorial register while Mary Putnam and Marjorie McQueen cared for the flowers. Special music for the service included "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "Eagle's Wings". Casket Bearers for the service were the members of the Shenandoah American Legion. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rural Riverton, Iowa with full military honors being conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Morelock, Dale Duane - Dale Duane Morelock, son of David Doyle and Hazel Pearl (Howard) Morelock, was born on January 25, 1925, at his parent’s home six miles east of Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, at the age of 82.

His early life was spent on a farm southeast of Farragut where he attended Centennial country school. The Morelock family later moved back to the Shenandoah area on a farm north of town. Dale attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1942. Following high school he farmed for one year before entering the military in October 1944. Dale trained in Texas and both the West and East coasts. After basic training he spent time in the Phillipines and in Japan. In the Phillipines he was an “infantry scout” and “led the way” for his unit. In Japan he helped rebuild the country after the bombings. Dale was on the ship next to the U. S. S. Missouri when the peace treaty was signed and was able to witness the signing. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946. He returned to Iowa to help on the family farm. Shortly thereafter he also worked for Northboro-Coin Telephone Co. for four months.

On August 29, 1948, Dale was united in marriage to Evelyn Chapman at Bedford, Iowa. They farmed 7 1/4 miles northeast of Bedford, Iowa, near Conway for seven years before moving to the Hood farm 9 miles south of Shenandoah in 1955. Dale also worked at the box factory for three years, then Farmers Co-op Exchange for ten years and one and half years at Topland Fertilizer. In 1972, Dale and Evelyn introduced Morelock Feed Company which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1992.

Ballroom dancing was a great passion for both Dale and Evelyn and brought much enjoyment. He also loved to fish with his kids and grandsons. He enjoyed, working outside on the farm and taking trips with Niehart tours with Evelyn and their friends. Dale and Evelyn took a lot of trips around the world with Wayne Feed Company. He also drew great enjoyment from the famous pinnocle games at family dinners.

Dale was a long time member of the Northboro United Methodist Church; American Legion Post # 88 for 50 years; Nebraska City Eagles Club for 38 years and the Shenandoah Elks Club for 20 years.

Preceding Dale in death were his parents; sister, Wilma Aileen and her husband John Akers; brother, Wayne and his wife Maxine Morelock. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn; son, David Morelock of Essex, IA; daughter, Sandra Morelock of Essex, IA; grandson, Aaron Morelock and his wife Michelle and their sons, Devin and Drew of Coin, IA; granddaughter, Alexis Morelock of Lemont, IL; grandson, David Morelock of Omaha, NE; sister, Mildred Hawn and her husband Lowell of College Springs, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Celebration of life funeral services were held on Friday, October 5, 2007, at the Northboro United Methodist Church. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Beatrice Kinzler. Organist was Karen Thompson. Caring for the flowers were Faye Rolf, Dorothy Walter, Beth Apperson, Darlene Eitzen and Joan Lynn. Attending the memory register were Phyllis Kemper and Evelyn Whipple. Ushers were Randall Apperson, Darrell Whitehill and Howard Carlson. Casket bearers were Larry Lauman, Greg Graham, Tim Christensen, Jerry Gomel, Jim Henderson and Don "Bart" Bartholomew. Honorary bearers were Tom Lynn, Jim Whipple, Gerald Walter, Norman Kemper, Lowell Lauman, Ed Harms, Alan Sump, Neil Cutler and Spencer Lauman. Military rites were accorded by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Coin, Iowa. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Morelock, Elza Wayne - Elza Wayne Morelock, the son of Jacob J. and Rena Ann (Smith) Morelock was born March 15, 1918, in Shenandoah, Iowa, and passed away November 17, 2003, in Shenandoah.
Growing up in Fremont County, Iowa, Elza received his education in country schools. From 1944 to 1946, he served during WW II in the United States Navy. On September 9, 1946, Elza was united in marriage to Beula Meyers, and to this union two children, Rebecca and Ted were born. After twenty years of service in the United States Postal Service, he retired in 1984. On June 2, 1984, Elza married Mona Hammers. They enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. Elza was an easygoing person and liked to visit. He was a member of the Nishna Valley Christian Church and American Legion Post #88.
Preceding Elza in death were his parents; first wife, Beula and second wife, Mona; and brother, Earl Morelock.
Survivors include his daughter Rebecca Kelley of Grand Island, Nebraska, and son, Ted Morelock and wife, Leah, of Stockport, Iowa. Survivors also include stepchildren, Patricia Trusty and husband, Thomas of Omaha, Nebraska, Dennis Haley and wife, Donna, of Corning, Iowa, Donna Bissell and husband, Marty, of Red Oak, Iowa, Terry Haley and wife, Teri, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Vicki Hensley of Sidney, Iowa, and Annette Beason and husband, Mark, of Shenandoah. A brother, Glen Morelock and wife, Geraldine, and a sister, Maxine Meyers all of Shenandoah survive. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and step grandchildren, plus 18 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Morelock, Ferne Lorene Liddell - Ferne Lorene Morelock, the daughter of James T. and Anna J. (Gonden) Liddell, was born April 3, 1919, near Treynor, Iowa, and passed away January 20, 2003, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Growing up in Shenandoah, Ferne received her education from the Shenandoah school system where she graduated from high school. On January 28, 1937, Ferne was united in marriage to Earl J. Morelock at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. To this union, two sons, Gene and Jerry were born. When Ferne and Earl were first married they lived and farmed north of Shenandoah for several years before moving to Shenandoah. While living in Shenandoah where they raised their sons, Ferne was associated with J.C. Penneys and Central Surveys. They then moved to Denver, Colorado, where they managed apartment houses and Fern was an Avon representative. In 1982, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Ferne was known to be a wonderful cook, and an accomplished seamstress, even making garments like men’s clothing and vestments. She enjoyed working with ceramics making many keepsake items. She was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Shenandoah.
Preceding Ferne in death were her parents; husband; son, Gene Morelock; brothers, James, Orville, Elvin, and Dale Liddell; and sister, Mildred Phippen.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Morelock and his close friend, Deb Savine, of Omaha, two granddaughters, Jolin and Anna Morelock of Omaha; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Morgan, Mildred D. "Millie" - Mildred D. "Millie" Morgan, 83, of Lincoln, NE, and formerly of Shenandoah, passed away at the Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Millie's body was donated to the University of Iowa School of Medicine to help further education and research. There will be no services.

Mildred D. (Millie) Morgan, the daughter of Fred and Viva (Dawson) Marshall was born July 22, 1924, in Hawarden, Iowa. She passed away June 21, 2008, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She spent most of her early life in the community of Franklin Square, Ohio, until 1942, then returning to Hawarden, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. After graduation she worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1944 she enrolled at the University of South Dakota, later transferring to the University of Iowa where she graduated with a B.A. in physical education. In 1948 she moved to Shenandoah and taught girls physical education.

On February 19, 1950, she married William (Bill) Morgan of Farragut. She and Bill lived and farmed south of Farragut. During that time, Millie taught physical education at Tarkio College, in Tarkio, Missouri; she also was a substitute teacher for many years in the area schools. In 1985, Bill and Millie moved to Shenandoah.

Millie was very active in the community serving as a 4-H leader and Extension Council member in Fremont County. For twenty years she served as a member of the Terrace Hill Society Board. She was also a community council member of the Red Oak Center for Planned Parenthood and served on the Shenandoah Park Board for 2 terms. In its infancy, she was a board member of the Wabash Arts Camp. Other memberships and involvement include: Chapter JA, P.E.O., O.N.O., DAR, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, American Legion Auxillary, N.O.W., N.A.R.A.L., Shenandoah Antique Study Club (charter member), Fremont County Historical Society, the National Democratic Party. She had a profound love of gardening, antiques, interior decorating, animals, and needlework.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill. Survivors include a son Chuck Morgan of Owensboro, Kentucky; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Doug Rogers of Lincoln, Nebraska; and brother and sister-in-law Dayton and Helen Marshall of Vacaville, California.

Morgan, William W. "Bill" - William W. ‘Bill” Morgan, Jr., age 85, of Shenandoah, Iowa, died on February 14, 2006 in Omaha, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Wallace and Mabel Morgan and sister, Elizabeth Morgan.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred “Millie” Morgan; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Doug Rogers of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Chuck Morgan of Owensboro, Kentucky; and sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Elton Dawson of Utica, Kentucky.

Bill was born and raised in the Farragut area. He was a graduate of Iowa State University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. A World War II veteran, Bill was a member of the American Legion Post # 88 of Shenandoah. A life long farmer in Fremont County, he was very active in the cattle and grain business. As an owner and operator of the Farragut Elevator Company, he was nationally recognized by Ralston Purina and Nutrina as a dealer. During this period he served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Grain and Feed Association. He also had a long association with the First National Bank of Farragut as a member of the Board of Directors for over 50 years. Most recently, he served on the Shenandoah Library Board of Directors. Bill was an avid collector of antique stoneware, cast iron doorstops and memorabilia from the Omaha, Sioux City and St. Joseph stockyards.

Graveside memorial services were held on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Words of remembrance were given by Bill's family. Susie Schaaf sang "Home On The Range" at graveside. Military rites were accorded by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. Following the graveside, everyone was invited to the American Legion Country Club for a time of remembering and lunch. Terry Stafford entertained the crowd by playing 1950's tunes on the piano. Susie Schaaf closed the gathering by singing, "I Believe". Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Public Library in Bill’s name. Morhain, Mervin - Mervin Morhain, the son of Joseph and Nora (Nies) Morhain, was born May 19, 1909, in rural Page County, near Shenandoah, Iowa, and passed away February 13, 2003, at his home in Shenandoah.
Growing up on a farm between Essex and Shenandoah, in Grant Township, Merv received his education at the Mount Hope Country School through the eighth grade and Shenandoah High School. On December 30, 1931, Merv was united in marriage to Alice Brown at Rock Port, Missouri and to this union, daughters, Darlene and Phyllis were born.
Merv farmed his entire life in Fremont County, moving to Shenandoah in 1959. He was a member of the Fremont County Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of Shenandoah Elks Club #1122. He enjoyed farming and often told stories of his early days on the farm when he ran a thrashing machine. He was often seen tinkering in the shop on the farm, fixing or making something handy. He also enjoyed his many fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada.
Preceding Merv in death were his parents; wife, Alice in 1998; grandson, Carl Richard Scott; and brother, Vern Morhain.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Darrel Jackson and Phyllis and Richard Scott all of Shenandoah; brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Imogene Morhain of Farragut, Iowa; and eight grandchildren, Dennis Jackson, Deborah Kingsolver, Carol Kirkpatrick, David Jackson, Diane Carpenter, Denise Hutchison, Donna Tiemeyer and John Scott; plus several nieces, nephews and friends.

Morhain, Orville - Orville Morhain was born October 2, 1910 in Shenandoah, the son of Joe J. and Nora (Niece) Morhain. He passed away on Tuesday evening, January 8, 2008 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. He attended school in Shenandoah and graduated with the class of 1931. On Friday, August 13, 1958, Orville was united in marriage to Imogene B. Nelson in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

Orville was a farmer in the Shenandoah and Farragut area all of his life. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1122, the Farm Bureau Federation and had been a member of the Nishna Valley Saddle Club for years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mervin Morhain and Vern Morhain; and a step-son, Billy Nelson.

Survivors include his wife Imogene of Sidney, Iowa; two nieces, Darlene Jackson and her husband Darrel of Shenandoah, Iowa and Phyllis Scott and her husband Dick of Shenandoah, Iowa; a nephew, Jerry Morhain and his wife Marilyn of Sedalia, Missouri; along with other relatives and friends.

Moritz, Elvin Lloyd - Elvin Lloyd Moritz, the son of Frank M. and Cora Whan Moritz was born May 31, 1918 in Taylor County, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Montgomery Count Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 3 days. Elvin grew up living on farms around the area. In 1936, he graduated from the Villisca High School. After graduation, he worked in St. Louis, MO, for a time, but returned and enlisted in 1940 in the National Guard, where he trained with the 168th Infantry Company F at Camp Claiborne, LA.
Elvin met his wife, Neva “Ruth” Schenck Moritz when they were in the 85h grade. They were engaged before Pearl Harbor and married on February 3, 1942 in Mt. Holly, NJ in a double ceremony with her brother Earl and Genny Schenck, before they were sent overseas during World War II.
Elvin served in Europe for two and one-half years and participated in the Algerian, Tunisian, and Italian Campaigns. He received three bronze battle stars, defense service ribbons, and the good conduct medal. Elvin did not talk much about the traumas of war, but he was very proud to have been a soldier for his country.
After his discharge in June 1945, Elvin and Ruth returned to Clarinda, Iowa were he was employed by Lisle’s Manufacturing Company and engaged in farming. During this time, their two children were born and the family purchased and moved to a farm near Nodaway, Iowa in 1950. Elvin did custom hay bailing and worked at the Nodaway Produce and Elevator. In 1956, he was employed at Union Carbide in Red Oak, Iowa, and the family moved to Villisca. He worked there for twenty years before he retired in 1978. Elvin and Ruth spent several years traveling by RV trailer, mostly during the winter months. In 2002, they moved to Red Oak. Elvin was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church, VFW Post #8998 and Ker-a-Vor Legion Post #251. Recently, he was honored to be included on the First Western Iowa Honor Flight to Washington D.C., to see his World War II Memorial. Elvin enjoyed gardening and sharing his crop with neighbors, family and friends. For the most part, he was a quiet, soft spoken man who liked people and enjoyed visiting with them.
Elvin was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Neva “Ruth” Moritz on December 8, 2007; his parents; brother, Orval; sisters, Velma Edwards and Eula Guss, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Campbell Moritz.
Survivors include his two children: Evon Carlson and husband Ron of Red Oak, Iowa; and Clark Moritz and his wife Roberta of Waterloo, Iowa; four grandchildren: Lynette Fast and husband Rodney of Lincoln, Neb.; Brain Carlson and wife Mary of Red Oak, Iowa; Corey Moritz and wife Paula of Dublin, Ohio; and Brigette Moritz of Waterloo, Iowa; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; Genny Schenck of Clarinda, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

Funeral service was held Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Villisca United Methodist Church, Villisca, Iowa.
Full military graveside rites and burial was held in Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa, with Pastor Gordon Scott of officiating.
Visitation with the family present was Wednesday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Morrison, Margaret E. Mitchell - Margaret E. Morrison, age 83 of Shenandoah (formerly of Chariton) passed away on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Shenandoah Medical Center after a bout with cancer.

Margaret was born on July 3, 1925 in Warren Township, Lucas County, Iowa; the daughter of Worth Sprott and Laura Blanche (Schreck) Mitchell. She was the ninth of thirteen children.

Margaret attended grade school in Warren Township and graduated from Chariton High School in 1942. She then received a Normal Training Teachers Certificate in 1942 and taught at Braden Country School for one and a half years.

On September 5, 1943 she was united in marriage to Bobbie Lavern Morrison at the First Christian Church in Princeton, Missouri. They resided in Chariton before moving back to Shenandoah in 1953 where Bob managed the Hy-Vee Grocery Store. Margaret was the bookkeeper until they both retired in 1980. They enjoyed working together, golf, and traveling. The couple spent the winter months at the home in Rio Verde, Arizona. Margaret later had a winter home in Henderson, Nevada.

Margaret was a member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah, Christian Women's Fellowship, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and siblings Lois Mitchell, Willard Dale Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell, Gerald "Jerry Mitchell, Calvin Mitchell, Dorothy Mitchell and Edna Stansbery

Morrison, Randall D. - Randall David Morrison, the son of R. Dale and Iris (Teachout) Morrison, was born July 23, 1955, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, and passed away February 2, 2003, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
In 1959, Randy moved from Nebraska with his family, to a farm just west of Shenandoah, Iowa, where his parents still live today. Randy attended the Shenandoah Community Schools graduating from high school in 1973. He attended the University of Iowa, where he belonged to the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (FIJI). As a young man, Randy spent time in California before moving back to Shenandoah where he lived for about 10 years. On April 8, 1989, in Omaha, Nebraska, Randy was united in marriage to Lesha Fowler. In late 1997 they moved to South Carolina to be near the ocean and beaches.
While in Shenandoah, Randy was employed by the Tyler Coca Cola Bottling Plant. Later for Walnut Grove Feed Company in sales, West States Insurance Company, Owner and operator of Twenty-First Century Chimney Sweeps and later employed by DTN (Data Transmission Network.)
Randy was a former member of 4-H, FFA, high school band as a drum major and choir. He later became a member of Sea Coast Gospel Choir and Promise Keepers. Randy enjoyed sailing, water skiing, fishing and being near the water.
Preceding Randy in death were his grandparents, Russell and Bertha Teachout and Hubert and Neta Morrison.
Survivors include his wife, Lesha, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; children, Mollie Morrison of Clarinda, Iowa, Leshall Conklin, Joel Conklin and Zach Morrison all of Mount Pleasant; parents, Dale and Iris Morrison of rural Shenandoah, brother, Bill Morrison of Baldwin City, Kansas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Amy and Norm Kelley of Casper, Wyoming and Susan and Grant Schaaf of Randolph, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Moser, William Charles "Bill" - William Charles “Bill” Moser, age 64 of Council Bluffs, Iowa and formerly of Shenandoah was born May 1, 1942 in Villisca, Iowa, the son of Dale Charles and Ora June (Crabtree) Moser. He died suddenly on Friday evening, January 26, 2007 at his home in Council Bluffs.
Bill graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1961. He then attended Milford Technical College in Milford, Nebraska, graduating in 1963. In 1964 Bill joined the National Guard and served six years during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military service, Bill returned to Council Bluffs and has worked as a steel fitter for Paxton Vierling Steel.
Preceding Bill in death was his father, Dale Charles Moser. Survivors include his son, Dale Moser and his wife Cheryl of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter, Carol Meston of Glenwood, Iowa; mother, June Moser of Shenandoah, Iowa; five grandchildren, Brandon, Cody and Caleb Moser, Samantha and Austin Meston; along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Selby-Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. Burial will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah with Military Rites accorded by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. A memorial fund is being established. Selby-Kirsch Funeral Chapel of Shenandoah is in charge of arrangements.

Moses, Lola R. - Lola is the infant daughter of Damian and Rhea Moses. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 27 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Lee's Summit, Missouri. Mosier, Carolyn Jeanne Moore - Carolyn Jeanne (Moore) Mosier was born on February 10, 1945 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Donald Hubert and Lois Maxine (Jones) Moore. Carol entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at her home in Essex with her son and youngest daughter by her side at the young age of 64 years.

Carol spent her childhood in Shenandoah where she attended Shenandoah High School. Following high school she resided in Corning, Griswold, and Tabor. After raising her family, Carol returned back to her childhood home in Shenandoah.

During her life, Carol held many jobs. She was a hard worker and did whatever was needed to support her family. Some of her most recent jobs included working at Eaton’s, Diamond D, and Dollar General. Carol was an avid crafter and used this skill as a means for additional income. She touched the lives of many with her strong crafting talent.

Carol was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was blessed with three children and twelve biological grandchildren. She was also known to many others as “grandma”, as well. Carol was a devoted and dedicated friend, who touched the lives of those she knew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and special friend Gary Barton. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ron Mosier of Tabor, Iowa; three children, Jill Mosier and fiancé Bob Nusser of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Chris Mosier and wife Kim of Essex, Iowa, and Tammy Smith and fiancé Bryon Savala of Maryville, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, a sister, Deanna Ballain and husband Jack of Shenandoah, Iowa; two brothers, David Lee Moore and wife Jackie of Carter Lake, Iowa, and Ernest Moore and wife Teresa of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; other relatives and many friends.

Moss, Alberta Sweeney - Alberta Sweeney Moss was born on June 7, 1912 in Lockwood, Missouri, the daughter of Squire Albert and Myrtle (Walters) Sweeney. Alberta entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Fair Oaks Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Alberta moved to northwest Iowa at the age of two. She attended school and graduated from Alta High School with the Class of 1931. On October 1, 1931 she was united in marriage to Wallace Summerfield Moss in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple was later blessed with three children.

Alberta and Wallace made their family home on a farm near Golden City, Missouri in Barton County. They farmed until his death in 1943. Alberta and the children later moved to Lamar, Missouri where she worked for Blue Star Foods, until 1947 when they moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. During her working days in Shenandoah she was employed by Blue Star Poultry, as a supervisor at Henry Field Seed and Nursery Company, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and later at Gardenview Care Center. She was a hardworking woman who retired three times.

Alberta had a special place in her heart for all children. She loved watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church and a six years member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, a daughter Wilma Lucille Fredrickson, a sister Ellamae and brothers; Lee, Ralph and George.

Those left to honor her memory include her son Bill Moss and wife Barbara of Howell, MI and daughter Frances Lorimor and husband Dan of Sidney, IA; grandchildren; Lori Fredrickson of Boulder, CO, Jim Fredrickson and wife Cathy of Bozeman, MT, Linda Maxwell and husband Don of White Heath, IL Tom Lorimor and wife Rita of Sidney, IA and Paul Lorimor of Archie, MO; great-grandchildren Debbie Straw and husband Josh and Renee Johnson and husband R.P., Thomas Bailey, Wyatt Lorimor and Weston Lorimor; two sisters Ruth Small and Thelma Peterson; other family and friends.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah with Rev. Rick Sleyster officiating. Joan Schebaum and Shelley McLaren attended to the memorial register. Special music for the service was provided by Jeff Penn while Steve Richardson played the organ. The selections included "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" and "The Lord's Prayer". Linda Maxwell gave a heart felt tribute to her grandmother. Following the services the the family gathered at the Presbyterian Church where the church ladies provided a lovely meal. Burial followed at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City, Missouri with Dr. Troy Morgan conducting the graveside services. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah.

Murphy, Myrl L. - Myrl L. Murphy, 44, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2006, at his home in Shenandoah. It was Myrl's wish to donate his body to the State of Nebraska Anatomical Board to help further medical research. A celebration of Myrl's life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie (Wilcoxson) Murphy and daughters, Marsha Comstock, Melissa Mick, Martha Comstock; brother, Gene Murphy; and son-in-laws, Lonnie Mick, Donald Powell and Jon Terry; other relatives many friends.

Murphy, Rose Marie Wilcoxson - Rose Marie Murphy was born on August 6, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Ervin Eugene and Barbara Ruth (Benedict) Wilcoxson. Rose entered into eternal peace on Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Rose's early years were spent in the Shenandoah area. She graduated from Farragut High School. She later lived in San Angelo and Gonzales, Texas. On October 4, 1986 she was united in marriage to Myrl Murphy. They later returned to Shenandoah to be closer to their family. The couple was blessed with 20 years of marriage before Myrl's passing on November 13, 2006.

Rose worked for several motels as a housekeeper including the Motel 6, the Hawkeye Motel, and Days Inn. She also worked as a security guard at Pella Corp. and the Horseshoe Casino.

She was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Johnson, husband Myrl Murphy, grandson Seth Padilla, and sister Paulette.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Marsha Terry and husband Jon, Melissa Mick and husband Lonnie, and Martha Comstock and husband Donald; son Doug Sexton and wife Sandy; 17 grandchildren; father Ervin Wilcoxson and wife Debra; brothers Rodney Wilcoxson, Emmit Johnson, Ervin Murphy and wife Michelle, and Ed Johnson and wife Pat; six sisters Sue Kinney and husband Dave, Kay McEnaney and husband Leon, Erma Grill and husband Dale, Rhonda Shane and husband Jim, Mary McAllister and husband Evan, Tina Nail and husband Curtis, and Amanda Corzette; dog Theodore Marie Terry ; other relatives, and friends.

Murphy, Thomas Paul - Thomas Paul Murphy, 81, former Shenandoah resident and alumnus passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at his home in La Jolla, California following a bout with cancer.

Thomas Paul Murphy, Tom, was known for his wonderfully active, bright mind. He was intellectually adventurous, curious, and nimble. (A lifelong Republican, he voted for Obama in November.)

He hailed from a small town in Iowa, raised as the only child of a widow. He graduated high school at age 16, then went to the University of Iowa to major in journalism. While there he launched a company that printed school calendars, with ads in the margins. He sold it upon graduating, and headed to New York City to work in the advertising industry.

He later went to Harvard Business School, graduating in 1953, and soon after authoring the book "A Business of Your Own". He told his mother he wanted to know how to start a thriving business, so he figured he might as well write a book on the topic. He then immersed himself in business journalism (he covered unions as an editor for Fortune and later wrote a column on venture capital investing and entrepreneurship
for Forbes).

Some of his fondest memories were from his years working closely with the chairman of IBM Worldtrade, Arthur K. Watson. When Watson became the Ambassador to France, Tom went with him as a Deputy Chief of Mission. Not content to simply wine and dine, he took up a fight against the so-called "French Connection" whereby heroine flowed from Turkey to be processed in Marseille, France and shipped to the U.S. He knew he was making headway busting the heroine processing facilities,and hence the flow of drugs, when his Mercedes was sabotaged (twice)and his apartment ransacked (twice).

He returned to New York, where he co-founded The Venture Capital Fund of America (which to date has raised $740 million), and pioneered a form of private equity investing called secondary venture
capital. To create a networking spot for other investors, he founded the Connecticut Venture Capital Group. Other similar forums were later
created around the country.

He moved to La Jolla in 1983 and soon after devoted himself to philanthropy. He served on the board of the San Diego Foundation from 1994-2001. While there, he founded, chaired, and financially supported the Committee on Social Outcomes, which brought together experts on social issues to discuss ways of creating positive change in the
community. He was a generous donor to educational causes and sponsored several scholarships at The Bishop's School in La Jolla.

His curiosity knew no bounds. For his 81st birthday, he asked for (and received) an iPhone.

Murray, Wallace "Bud" Jasper II - Wallace “Bud” Jasper Murray II was born April 12, 1928 at his parents’ home in Martin County near Elnora, Indiana. During the Great Depression his family lived and worked in many states. He started his work as an apprentice dry sausage maker. Bud was married to Naomi Ruth Kranning on January 27, 1947 at Elnora, Indiana. They had four children: Wally, Gary, Debby, and Denise.

Bud worked for Hy-Grade meat packing plants and was transferred to Clarinda, Iowa in 1968. Hy-Grade became Wilsons and he worked with them more than 30 years retiring as superintendant in 1989.

Wallace “Bud” Murray passed away Friday afternoon, January 2, 2009 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Glen Rusher; son Wallace Jasper Murray III; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife Ruth of College Springs, Iowa; son Gary Murray of College Springs; daughters, Debby Murray of College Springs, and Denise Herrera and husband Mario of Midwest City, Oklahoma; sister Delilah Jewell of Shoals, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

Mutchler, Mabel Leone Cummins - Mable passed away on Monday afternoon; September 15, 2008 at Garden View Care Center. There will be a private family viewing on Friday from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., prior to the graveside services.

Mabel Leone was born on April 21, 1930 in Iola, Kansas; the daughter of Charles Clinton and Rosetta (Ruby) Cummins. The death angel came to receive Mabel from her sufferings on Monday afternoon; September 15, 2008 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Mabel was the youngest of 13 children, whose early childhood was spent living throughout the Midwest. On March 14, 1946 she eloped to Iola, Kansas where she was united in marriage to Tully Mutchler. The couple then returned to Shenandoah where they raised their family.
Mabel was a devoted and hardworking farmwife and mother. She enjoyed cooking for her family and working in the garden. She also had a talent for sewing and made all of her children's clothing when they were younger. In her later years she enjoyed reading, researching genealogy, and visiting with her friends via e-mail. She felt that she was never to old to learn something new. Mabel was truly young at heart.
She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, beloved husband Tully who passed away in 1995, a granddaughter Carrie Linfor, a great-granddaughter Jody Christine Whitehill and her 12 siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children; Vickie Walters of Red Oak, Iowa, Linda Geer and husband Gary of Shenandoah, Iowa and Tom Mutchler and wife Shirley of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services were held on Friday; September 19, 2008 at the Home Cemetery in Tarkio, Missouri with Rev. Joanne Johnson officiating. "Beyond The Sunset" and "Hymn Of Promise" were special musical selections for the services. Serving as Casket Bearers were Les McKenney, Byron Erickson, Randy Messenger, Richard Linfor, Jeff Geer and Allan Hummel.

Myers, Herbert E. "Gene" - Herbert E. “Gene” Myers, 81, of Rock Rapids, IA, and formerly of Coin, died Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009, at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

Herbert E. “Gene” Myers was born on February 16, 1928 at Hemingford, Nebraska the son of James and Hazel (Foster) Myers. Gene grew up in southwest Iowa. He attended Coin High School, graduating in 1946. He served in the Merchant Marines at the end of WWII. Gene was united in marriage to lla Sue Long at Bentonville, Arkansas on November 5, 1949. He worked for the agronomy department of Iowa State University for 38 years retiring in 1991. Gene and Ila lived in Doon, Iowa during these years and after his retirement they moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Alvord and Rock Rapids gun clubs, American Legion, a past member of the Lyon County Fair Board, former volunteer fireman and former council member. On Wednesday morning, September 30, Gene died at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of eighty-one.

He is survived by his wife, Ila Myers, of Rock Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Glenda Schouten of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Lori Myers of Brandon, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Nathan (Kristina) Myers and Tim Myers all of Brandon, South Dakota; and Katy Schouten of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Chantel Myers of Brandon, South Dakota; a brother-in-law, Marion Ketcham of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and a sister-in-law, Violet Myers of Ottumwa, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Glenn and an infant son; four brothers, Donald, Russell, Bernard, and Richard Myers and one sister, Betty Myers Ketcham

Myers, Leatrice Jane - Leatrice Jane Myers passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Leatrice was born June 3, 1926 at her parents’ home in Clarinda, Iowa. She lived for a short time in Shambaugh and attended Braddyville High School. She was married August 4, 1945 at Troy, Kansas to Raymond Max “Shorty” Myers.
Leatrice was a committed wife, mother and Christian. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, needlework, was a wonderful homemaker and excellent cook. Leatrice was a quiet reserved gentle loving mother. Everyone will remember Leatrice as a sweet and considerate woman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2008, sisters Moreen Fastenau and husband Rennig and Ruth McNulty and husband Mac, brother Howard Burton and his wife Mildred, and grandson Jason Bennett Harold in infancy.
Leatrice is survived by her children: Linda Greene and husband James of Washington, Iowa, Marla Harold and husband Kent of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Barbara Runyon and husband Edward of College Springs, Iowa, and Daniel Myers and wife Sherry of Clarinda, Iowa, ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and friends.
