Clark, Aaron Dean - Funeral Services for Aaron Clark, age 25 of Clarinda, Iowa who died Saturday, December 9, 2006, at his home in Clarinda, Iowa were held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda with Pastor Brian Bontrager officiating. Visitation with the family was held 7-8 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2006 at the Hillside Missionary Church. Interment was held in the Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa with military rites by the 530th Military Police Battalion of Omaha, Nebraska . Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Service, Clarinda, Iowa.

Aaron Dean Clark was born November 13, 1981, in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Dean Clark and Janice Sue (Stogdill) Clark. He graduated from Clarinda High School in May 2000. Aaron received one year of computer training at ITT Tech in Omaha. He moved from Omaha to Kearney and then to Lincoln, Nebraska where he joined the Army Reserves in 2002. He was assigned to the 530th Military Police Battalion of Omaha, Nebraska. Upon graduation from basic training in January 2003, his unit was activated and deployed to Fort Riley, Kansas and then to Iraq. When Aaron returned to Lincoln in April 2004, he was employed by Silverhawk Security. While living in Lincoln, he attended the Lincoln Berean Church and met many new friends. He was involved in leadership training and Bible study during that time.

In June of 2005, Aaron left for two weeks of annual training and was called home due to the death of his father. Aaron moved to Clarinda with his mother to help with his dad’s estate and to remodel his mother’s kitchen. In February of 2006, Aaron was hospitalized with blood clots in his heart, lung and arm. He continued to recuperate at his mother’s home and enjoyed being involved with his church family and being with his friends and family. In August, he was diagnosed with severe primary pulmonary hypertension which limited his activity, but still he enjoyed a vacation to Fort Robinson for a family reunion.

Aaron enjoyed reading, especially Bible study and despite his illness, he remained active in his small group, the light group and men’s Bible studies. Aaron always liked spending time with his friends and family and enjoyed a variety of activities. He was an outdoor person and liked to fish, hunt, go camping and kayaking. Aaron also enjoyed music and making videos on his computer.

Left to cherish Aaron’s memory are his mother, Janice Clark of Clarinda, Iowa; sister, Andrea Clark of Omaha, Nebraska; paternal grandparents, Jim and Ardith Clark of New Market, Iowa; and a host of extended family and friends.

Preceding Aaron in death are his father, Kenneth Clark; maternal grandparents, Bert and Beda Stogdill; cousin, Jennifer Stogdill.

Clark, James Herren - Funeral services for James (Jim) Clark of New Market, Iowa, who died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa were held Monday, May 12, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Masonic rites by Nodaway Lodge #140 AF & AM were held Sunday May 11, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda; visitation with the family followed at, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Burial was in the Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa with military rites by Bedford American Legion Hardin Post 164. Memorials may be directed to the New Market Methodist Church or to the Memory Cemetery Veterans Memorial.

James Herren Clark was born August 3, 1926 in New Market, Iowa, the son of Paul Evert Clark and Holly Lucille (Herren) Clark. He lived in New Market his whole life except for the two years (1950-1952) he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. During this time he was stationed in Germany and the United States.

Jim graduated from New Market High School in 1945. He worked in Clark’s Store which was bought and owned by his grandfather, B. L. Clark and father, Paul E. Clark. After the death of his father in 1946 and his grandfather Bert Clark in 1950 he worked with his mother, Holly L. Clark. He bought half interest in 1950. He then became sole owner in 1973 after the death of his mother. Jim retired in 1977.

On May 17, 1953, he married Ardith J. Moore at the New Market Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children, Kenneth Dean Clark, Kevin P. Clark and Tonya Clark and five grandchildren, Andrea Dawn Clark, Aaron Dean Clark, Eric James Clark, Natalie Annette Paxton and Amanda Renae Paxton.

Jim accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1945 and was baptized. He has been a member of the United Methodist Church of New Market and has served on numerous committees over the years. He faithfully attended as long as his health permitted.

He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge for 50 years also. He was a past member of the Lion’s Club and the Odd Fellows Lodge and served as a volunteer fireman for over twenty five years.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Ardith Clark of New Market, Iowa; daughter, Tonya Paxton and husband Richerd of Milan, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Janice Clark of Clarinda, Iowa; granddaughters, Andrea Clark of Clarinda, Iowa, Natalie Paxton and Amanda Paxton of Milan, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Vera Moore of New Market, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Wanda Moore of Clarinda, Iowa and Verla Coston of New Market, Iowa; special friends Donald Godfrey and Donna of Cowgill, Missouri; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Clark, Jean Elizabeth Putnam - Jean Clark, age 85, of Villisca, Iowa, formerly of Clarinda, Iowa and Salina, Kansas, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 7:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the First Christian Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 26, 2007, at Roselawn Cemetery, Salina, Kansas. Interment will be held in the Roselawn Cemetery in Salina.

Jean Elizabeth Clark was born June 4, 1921, in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Philip Putnam and Lucille (Wassung) Putnam. She grew up in Salina and graduated from Salina High School. Jean also attended Wesleyan College in Kansas. She was united in marriage June 8, 1941, to Elmo I. Clark; he preceded her in death in March 1991.

Jean lived her entire life in Salina, until moving to the Eiler House in Clarinda, Iowa, January 2000, to be near her son. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Eastern Star, D.A.R., and Native Daughters of Kansas while living in Salina. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Clarinda.

Left to cherish Jean’s memory is her son, Reverend John P. Clark and wife Judy of Clarinda, Iowa; grandsons, Jeff Clark and wife Kristi of Clarinda, Iowa and Steve Clark and wife Tara of North Liberty, Iowa; five grandchildren, Katie, Cassie, John (JJ), Madolyn, and Gabriel Clark; one sister, Norma Pettinger and husband Ed of Grayslake, Illinois; sister-in-law, Constance Achterberg-Clark of Salina, Kansas; nephews and nieces.

Clark, Leonard Erskine - Leonard Erskine Clark was born on March 22, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born to Ralph H. and Eliza M. (McFarland) Clark.Leonard passed away on June 5, 2006 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenadoah, Iowa at the age of 73.
After graduating from Lawton high school in Lawton, Iowa in 1951, Leonard moved to Phoenix, Arizona and later to Omaha, Nebraska before coming to Shenandoah. Leonard served in the United States Army from March of 1951 to March of 1955. He was a baker at the Safeway stores in Phoenix and at Albertson’s in Omaha. Leonard retired in 1992.
Leonard was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was very interested in genealogy and very involved until Parkinson’s prevented him.

Preceding Leonard in death were his parents Ralph and Eliza; brother, Ralph H. Clark; one niece and nephew. Survivors include his sisters, Mary Hodapp of Shenandoah, Ethelyn Doyle and her husband Donald of Imogene, Ia; son, Michael and wife Kim of Phoenix, Az; granddaughters, Haylie and Mandi marie (born the same day Leonard died); nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 9, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shenandoah, Iowa. Presiding and Conducting was Brother Aaron M. Green. Pianist was Randy Erhart and chorister was Joy Jones. Attending the memory register were Sue Gerner and Laline Maher. Ushers for the service were Jason Baldwin and Richard Baldwin. Cakset bearers were Craig Eberly, Aaron Green, Donnie Doyle, Jason Baldwin, Richard Baldwin, Randy Erhart and Steven Dalgleish. Interment is is Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Collier, Keith Vance - Keith Vance Collier entered into this life on May 28, 1935 and left to be with the Lord on October 23, 2009.


Keith was the youngest of his siblings, Shirley Collier Wood and Joe Edward Collier, born to Oral Collier and Susie Williamson who all preceded him in death.


In his younger days growing up in Shenandoah, IA, Keith was very involved with the Boy Scouts, later becoming a Scout leader and traveling as far as New Mexico and California for Jamborees and Scout Camp.


Keith enjoyed the outdoors, and until his health began to deteriorate from Post Polio Syndrome and Heart Disease, would go swimming, fishing, canoeing, snorkeling, camping and sailing as often as he could.


In the summer of 1961, while working as a surveyor for the Iowa Department of Transportation, Keith met his sweetheart, Ann Louis Artherholt at Viking Lake, near Stanton, Iowa and they united in marriage on June 6, 1964, celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary earlier this year.


After Keith and Ann were married, they moved to Maryville, Missouri, where Keith obtained his degree in Education/Industrial Arts with a minor in Drafting from North West Missouri State College.


Keith and Ann later moved to Bland, Missouri, then Fayette, Missouri, where they added to their family a daughter, Cynthia Louise Collier. Once their family was complete, they moved to Columbia, Missouri, where Keith worked as a teacher at Rock Bridge Sr. High School, then later a Draftsman and Estimator at Semco Manufacturing Company. Keith’s love of photography drew him to later work at Columbia Photo for many years before moving to Springfield, Missouri in 1992, where he worked as a Night Auditor and then and Office Manager, from which he retired.


In 2006, Keith and Ann moved back to Columbia, Missouri to be closer to their daughter and two grandchildren, Kyle Hubert Lee Crites and Dominique Sophie Crites, who he has enjoyed watching grow and become young adults in his most recent profession, full-time Grandpa.


Keith touched many people, and never knew a stranger. Those of us who had the privilege to know him, will forever hold a place in our hearts for his teachings, jokes and kindness.


You are loved and will be missed.


Keith leaves behind his wife, Ann Louise Collier of the home, his daughter, Cynthia Louise Lagunas and her children Kyle and Dominique, all of Columbia; Brothers and Sisters-In-Law, Dr. William and Alice Artherholt and Bruce and Jan Artherholt, all of Red Oak, Iowa; H.E. “Woody” Wood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Charlotte Miller of Weston, Missouri, several nieces and nephews, their families, and many friends.

Brief mention was made in our last issue af the death of Mrs. L. C. Collier. Funeral services were
held Thursday afternoon in the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. E. L. Field. Interment was in
the Hawleyville cemetery.

Miss L. C. Noble was bom in Monroe, Green County, Wisconsin, Aug. 23, 1847. Departed this life
at her home in New Market, Jan. 27, 1920, aged 72 years, 5 months and 4 days.

On April 13,1871, she was united in marriage to George W. Collier to this union, was born one
daughter, Maudie, who only made a brief slay here, departing this life, July 3, 1879. On October 23,
1884, husband and father crossed to the other side. Mrs. Collier confessed her Savior in the fall of
1887 under the preaching of Rev. Shepard, and was baptized into the New Market Baptist church.
For many years she was Sunday school superintendent and on her last bed of sickness she was still
trusting her master and prayed that His will might be done. She leaves one aunt, Mrs. J. K. West
of Boulder, Colo., and six cousins and a host of friends.

Colwell, Penny Coulter - Penny (Coulter) Colwell, 82, passed away at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa on Friday, December 7, 2007. She is the widow of Silas Colwell. A Celebration of Penny's life will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2007, following cremation. Memorials in her name may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Clarinda or to the American Cancer Society. Burial will take place at a later date in Springfield, Missouri.

Penny is survived by her daughter, Pat Hopper and her husband Gary of Clarinda, Iowa; four grandsons, Brian and Tim Hopper, Sean McQueary and wife Kimand Ryan McQueary and wife Sarah; two great granddaughters Alexa and Maddie McQueary; two step-children, Martin Colwell and Theresa Colwell; other relatives and many friends.

Colwell, Silas L. - Silas L. Colwell was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on January 6, 1919, to Henry Francis and Della Blanche (Inghram) Colwell.

The family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, when Si was a young boy. He and his brothers became friends with Clark Lybarger and his family, who owned the local junk yard. In their spare time, the brothers would help Clark disassemble cars for scrap. Clark would give the boys the headliners from the cars which they took home for Blanche to make coats.

As a teenager, Si worked at Mt. Arbor Nursery. Si and his friends, also known as ‘The Wabash Gang’, could be found roller skating, dancing or shooting pool. In 1937, ‘The Wabash Gang’ joined the National Guards, Company E. On February 10, 1941, Company E, 168th Infantry, was called to active duty. PFC Silas L. Colwell served in the Tunisian Theatre during World War II until 1945. While overseas he spent six weeks M.I.A. in Africa.

After returning home, Si went to work painting bridges for Bud Turnbull. After that he painted houses and even spent time as an interior decorator.

In 1972, Si married Penny Coulter in Clarinda, Iowa. They moved to Springfield, Missouri in approximately 1975, where they managed a truck stop and dry cleaners. The couple then spent several years managing motels for Best Western in Missouri, Colorado and Wyoming. They moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, where they managed storage units until they retired back home in Clarinda.

When it became medically necessary, Si and Penny moved into Goldenrod Manor. It was there that Si passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2006.

Si was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Francis and Della Blanche Colwell; four sisters, Julia Williams, Sarah Phipps, Ethel (Sis) Linquist and Audrey Phipps; two brothers, Bert and Don Colwell; son, Lance Aldee; and daughter, Janice Ronai’e.

He is survived by his wife, Penny of Clarinda, IA; son, Martin Colwell of Shenandoah, IA; daughter, Teresa of Omaha, NE; step-daughter, Pat Hopper and husband Gary of Clarinda, IA; step-son, Mike Denny of Clarinda; brother, Marion Colwell and wife Dorothy of Imogene, IA; sister, Arlis Baucom and husband Kenneth of Shenandoah, IA; his grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside memorial services were held on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Chapel at Rose Hill Cemetery. Words of comfort were given by Pastor Tom Swafford. Attending the memory register was Phyllis Funk. Honorary bearers were all of Silas' comrades of Company E - 168th Infantry. Military rites were accorded by the American Legion Post #88 of Shenandoah. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Cooper, Joyce M. Bohlke-Joyce M. Cooper was born December 5, 1928 in Le Mars, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary (Meuller) Bohlke. Joyce grew up in the Le Mars, Remsen and Oyens, Iowa area. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1946. Following high school she attended Business College in Sioux City, Iowa. She was married to Don L. Cooper on August 27, 1952 in Oyens, Iowa at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. After they were married the couple resided in Shenandoah, Iowa.
While in Shenandoah, Joyce worked for the Iowa State Department of Transportation in the driver licensing division and did seasonal work at Henry Fields Nursery. She was active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah and Avoca, as well as being a member of the Red Hat Society. Joyce loved reading, weaving rugs and placemats, keeping up on current events by reading the paper, reading cookbooks and finding new recipes. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Don L. Cooper; brother, Kenneth Bohlke and Teressa Berndt. She is survived by her son, Craig Cooper and wife Jackie of Thornton, CO; daughter, Laurie Berndt and husband Morris of Avoca, IA; seven grandchildren, Bryan Berndt of Avoca, Aaron Berndt of Chicago, IL, Andrea Berndt of Phoenix, AZ, Stephen Berndt of Iowa City, and Patricia Berndt of Avoca, and Maria and Kyle Cooper of Thornton, CO; great granddaughter, Grayce Berndt of Iowa City; three brothers, Wayne Bohlke of Lesueur, MN, David Bohlke of Minneapolis, MN and Glen Bohlke of Virginia Beach, VA; other relatives and many friends

Covault, Gladys Reed - Gladys was born on May 17, 1921 in Fremont County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Martha (Hobson) Reed. Gladys entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 9, 2009 at her home in Shenandoah.

Gladys attended country school until her family moved to Shenandoah in 1929. She then attended Shenandoah Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1941. On October 2, 1942 she was united in marriage to Milton Wilson. The couple was later blessed with three children, Patricia, James, and David. Milton passed away in 1966. Gladys continued to live in the Shenandoah area. Gladys later found happiness again, when she was united in marriage to Norman Covault on June 29, 1974. The couple was blessed with 35 years together.

During her working years Gladys was employed by JC Penney’s for 10 years and later at the Shenandoah Hospital where she worked for 25 years. She cherished the friendships that she made during her working career. Gladys was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church where she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Some of Gladys’ interests included dancing, playing cards, socializing at the Senior Center, traveling, and entertaining. She always enjoyed having the family over for dinner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Milton, brothers; Claude, Roy, and Harold, sisters; Martha Belknap, Marguerite Snodgrass, Betty Thomas, and Nell Smith.

Cox, Evelyn "Lucille" Hamilton - Graveside services for Lucille Cox, age 92 of Knoxville, Iowa, formerly of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, Knoxville, Iowa were held Monday, October 6 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Robert Ceperley officiating. Evelyn Lucille Cox was born on January 24, 1916, to George Leslie and Mamie (Pratt) Hamilton. She was born in the same room as her father, in the rural family home near Blanchard, Iowa.

She graduated from Northboro High School in 1933. She married Leo Cox on November 24, 1935. Their daughter Sherrill Ann (Kryselmire) Cox was born March 30, 1937. The family moved to Clarinda, Iowa 2 days after the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941. The Coxes bought and operated the Clarinda Produce from 1941 until 1957, when they sold produce and moved to Omaha, Nebraska.

Leo and Lucille lived in Omaha until 1974 when they moved to Glenwood, Iowa. In Glenwood, they were active in the neighborhood and sporting events. They moved back to Clarinda in 1987. In 2004, Lucille moved to Vriendschap Village Assisted Living in Pella , Iowa to be near her granddaughters, Lori Alane Kryselmire and Lesley Ann (Kryselmire) Goodyk. In January of 2006, she fell and broke her hip and moved to Griffen’s Nursing Home in Knoxville, Iowa. She entered into rest on October 4, 2008 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

Lucille was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo and her daughter Sherrill. Lucille is survived by her granddaughters; Lesley Ann (Kryselmire) Goodyk of rural Knoxville, Iowa and Lori Alane Kryselmire of Pella, Iowa and her half sister, Sherri (Hamilton) Knude of Duran, Michigan.

Cox, Hyllis Lucille Pearce - Hyllis Lucille Cox, 91, of Chandler, Arizona, and formerly of Northboro, Iowa, passed away on February 26, 2007, in Chandler. She was born on November 30, 1915, in Carbon, Iowa, to Omar and Anna (Wildes) Pearce.

She attended country school near Blanchard, Iowa and graduated from Blanchard High School. Hyllis married Laverne Cox of Northboro, Iowa in 1935. They farmed there until 1966, moving to Chandler where they purchased a mobile home park which they operated a few years, sold and developed a second one, Evergreen Villa, which was the setting for annual Northboro, Iowa, reunions. The tenants were amazed at her hands-on approach, doing much of the maintenance and repairs, landscaping, replacing gas lines, etc. by herself.

Preceding Hyllis in death were her parents, husband, Laverne and granddaughter, Brenna Jean Cox. Survivors include her two children, Junior Laverne Cox and his wife Anne of Chandler, AZ, and Marjorie Milree Hart and her husband Duane of Arvada, CO; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Johnny Willcox and his wife Alberta of Osceola, IA, Bill Willcox and his wife Jeannie of Burton, MI, and Bob Willcox and his wife Ardis of Rushford, MN; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 9, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Northboro United Methodist Church in Northboro, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Pastor Carl Phillips. The eulogy was given by Kelly Hart. Pianist was Iva Jean Cutler. The Congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". Special music was "You'll Never Walk Alone". Casket bearers were Brian Cox, Jason Cox, Kelly Hart, Jeff Hart, Danny Lawrence and Bob Hutcheson. Interment was in the Union Grove Cemetery in rural Northboro. Memorials are being directed to the Union Grove Cemetery Improvement Fund. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah was in charge of the arrangements.

Crawford, Betty Blyth Shields - Betty Blyth Shields was born August 27, 1924 near Siam, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Walter Shields and Fannie Reid Shields. Betty passed away at the Clarinda Regional Health Center on Saturday, December 8, 2007.

Betty grew up in the Siam area and graduated from New Market High School in 1941. She attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and received her Normal Training Certificate. She taught rural school both at the Hardee School and the Nixon School (Buchanan Township) in Page County. On June 6, 1942 in Albany, Missouri she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Clark Crawford. Betty lived with her parents until Clark returned home from the Service. Betty and Clark lived their entire married life in or around Clarinda, but never forgot their Taylor County roots.

In her life, Betty most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She reveled in cooking, baking and opened her kitchen and home to all who entered. Betty would often smile and tell wives that the best way to a man's heart was through his stomach! Clark and Betty's home was always filled with company and the family often joked that they ran a hotel and restaurant. Betty loved her home and was very proud of her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She also loved her church, the church family and gave much of her time and energy to its activities. Betty was also very proud of her community and made sure that she always supported the local merchants. Betty was an active volunteer at the Nodaway Valley Museum and was so proud of its purpose. She loved playing all games and was
quite a whiz at Scrabble, cards and crossword puzzles.

Betty was a member of the First Christian Church in Clarinda, the Siam Eastern Star, the Nodaway Valley Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion Auxiliary, Semper Fidelis Sorority, the Clarinda Hospital Auxiliary, the Humane Society and many other local civil organizations.

Betty and Clark were blessed with three children, John (1945), Gloria (1947) and George (1954). There are eleven grandchildren: Clark M. Crawford, Carrie Crawford James and husband Kevin, Corey Crawford and wife Alice, Callie Crawford Porter and husband Mick, Aaron Kline and wife Beth, Adam Kline and wife Jen, Holly Kline Gillespie and husband Doug, Mark Kline and wife Autumn, Eric Kline and wife Kelly, Holly Crawford and Hunter Crawford. There are also 13 great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her children, John Crawford of Clarinda, Iowa, Gloria Kline and husband Richard of Villisca, Iowa, George Crawford and wife Katie of Clarinda, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Wilma (Billie) Rollstin and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Waive Shields; brother-in-law, Ralph Crawford and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and grandparents; husband, Clark Crawford; granddaughter, Heather Kline, sister, Ruth Shreck; brother, Reid Shields; brothers-in-law, C.J. Shreck, Dale Crawford and Wade Crawford; sisters-in-law, Mabel Crawford and Lucille Crawford.

Crawford, Helen Fuller - Graveside services for Helen Crawford, age 77 of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Friday, November 28, 2008 at her home in Clarinda, Iowa were held Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend John Clark officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Helen Crawford was born June 7, 1931 on the family farm in Montgomery County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Lee Fuller and Irene (Johnstone) Fuller. She was a graduate of Red Oak High School and attended Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville for two years. She was married to Donald Pullen and later divorced. Helen was united in marriage to Robert Crawford who preceded her in death October 21, 2008.

Helen worked at the Clarinda Mental Health for four years. Helen then attended Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville and received her teaching degree and taught school at Coburg, Iowa for seven years. Helen worked as secretary/receptionist for Dr. C.E. Nichols for fifteen years and most recently she retired after ten years from Twin Oaks Veterinary Clinic. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, Clarinda. Helen was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to read and she enjoyed poetry.

Helen is survived by a nephew, Albert Newlon and wife Clarissa of Red Oak, Iowa; niece, Candice Armstrong and husband Cecil of Imogene, Iowa; several great nieces and nephews; several great, great nieces and nephews and good friends, Betty Jo Maley and Audra Meyers.

Preceding Helen in death were her parents; husband, Robert Crawford; Aunt, Helen Johnstone; niece, Kay Susan; brothers, John Fuller in World War II and Leonard Fuller in infancy; sister, Margaret Newlon.

Creighton, Marian Elizabeth - Marian Elizabeth Creighton, daughter of Galbreath and Ola (Hatton) Creighton, was born on July 1, 1926 in Davies County, Missouri. She entered into rest on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 82.

Marian received her education in Coffey, Missouri where she graduated from Coffey High School. She had lost her father at the age of three and lived with her mom and relatives through her young life. At the age of 18, she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa where her mom was working. She found employment with the Bob Ross Insurance Agency, where she worked for many years before retiring. In Shenandoah, Marian was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, and Professional and Business Women’s Club. She enjoyed bowling for many years. She always had a good word and a thank you to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Maurice.

Survivors include her sister-in-law Virginia Creighton of Macon, Georgia, nephew Michael Creighton of Macon, Georgia and a niece Beverly Stewart and husband Robert of Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Karen Bash. Verdon Sorenson sang, "The Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". He was accompanied by Pat Larson on the organ. Attending the memory register was Mary Looper. Interment was in the Coffey Cemetery in Coffey, Missouri. Memorials are being directed to the Shenandoah First Christian Church in Marian's name. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Crew, Norma A. Baldwin - Norma A. Crew, age 86 of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away on Friday evening; September 19, 2008 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah.

Norma was born on April 2, 1922 in Shenandoah, Iowa; the daughter of Guy Ole and Evelyn (Bussard) Baldwin. She attended school in Shenandoah and graduated with the Class of 1940. She was later united in marriage to Francis H. Crew. The couple lived in Iowa, Nebraska and Arizona until Norma’s retirement from Pella Corporation in Pella, Iowa when they returned back home to Shenandoah.

Norma was a beloved wife and mother whose dedication to her family was immeasurable. She enjoyed caring for her yard and home. She always seemed to bake something delicious for family gatherings. She was very gifted in the kitchen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Francis, brothers; Riley, Lyle and Jack and a sister Mildred “Millie” Beck.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Larry F. Crew of Pella, Iowa, a daughter Peggy Anne Crew Owen of Shenandoah, Iowa, cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In keeping with Norma’s wishes her body has been cremated and no services will be held.

Croft, Betty J. - Betty J. Croft, 79, of Kansas City and formerly of Shenandoah passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008. A memorial is being established in Betty's name. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. She is survived by her son, Terry Croft and his wife Barbara of Overland Park, Kansas.

Crowell, Robert "Bob" Alfred - Robert “Bob” Alfred Crowell, son of Alfred “Hap” and Ardyth B. (Duncan) Crowell, was born on May 9, 1942, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006, at his home in Shenandoah.
Bob’s early life was spent in Shenandoah, on a farm east of Braddyville, Iowa and at Northboro, Iowa. He graduated from South Page Community High School in College Springs, Iowa, with the Class of 1960. In the early 60’s following high school, Bob joined the Iowa Army National Guard. He was married to Peggy Bryson Hartman and they have three sons, Rick, Tim and Tom. He later married Linda Tyler and became father of Tiffany.
Like his dad, Hap, Bob earned a living driving a truck. Some of the companies he drove for were K. W. Ripley of College Springs, Art Quiring of Coin, Iowa, Wayne Stevens of Shenandoah and McLaren Construction of Shenandoah. Bob was a member of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge and former 4-Her. Bob always greeted people with a smile. He was ready to lend a helping hand when asked.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents. He is survived by his children, Rick Hartman and his wife Tina of Farragut, IA, Tim Crowell of Wichita Falls, TX, Tom Crowell of Scott AFB, IL, and Tiffany Stanley and her husband Jeff of Shenandoah, IA; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside memorial services were held on Friday, February 24, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.

Memorial services for William Culver, age 76 of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Monday, September 24, 2007 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa were held Thursday, September 27, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating. Visitation with the family was held 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. one hour prior to the service on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the church. William Elmer Culver was born August 6, 1931 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Jacob Culver and Edna (Davison) Culver. Bill grew up in the Clarinda area and was a graduate of Clarinda High School and Clarinda Junior College. On June 24, 1953, Bill and Norma Mae Breach were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with a son, Wesley.

Bill joined the Army National Guard in Clarinda and transferred to the unit in Council Bluffs where he retired as a First Sergeant after twenty years of service. He worked at Nebraska Public Power District for forty years. He began as an assistant fireman and retired December 31, 1993, as a shift supervisor. During those years Bill and Norma lived in Bellevue, Nebraska and Sutherland, Nebraska. They returned to Clarinda in 2003

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarinda; a member of the Clarinda Lions Club. He was a past District Governor of the Lions Club in Nebraska and a fifty year member of the Masons. Bill was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and of the American Legion in Sutherland, Nebraska. He had many interests that he enjoyed which included Civil War reenactments, woodworking, bowling and hunting. Bill's family was very important to him and to his grandson, Thomas, he was "the best Grandpa around."

Bill is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Norma of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Wesley E. Culver and wife April of Bellevue, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Thomas W. Culver of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jessica Reay and husband James of Lincoln, Nebraska and David Citta, Jr of North Platte, Nebraska; sister, Shirley Hill of Edmond, Oklahoma; many relatives and friends.
