Reuben Long, of whose mention was made in Tuesday's issue born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Nov 11, 1841. In early manhood he moved with his parents to Illinois, and there to Ft. Dodge; thence to county, settling on a farm near Yorktown.
On May 1st, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Broadstone his now bereaved companion. To were born seven children, viz.: Jennie, Harriett, Harry, Lemuel, Leslie, Fleet and Edith—Mrs. Lines, of whom the three last named are living. In 1883 the family came to Clarinda where they have since made their home. Mr. Long was for many years an employee of the Clarinda Creamery also for a few years with A. T. Clement, and later with the Clarinda Poultry Co. He was of an obliging disposition, industrious and faithful.
For nearly eighteen years he had been a member of the Christian church, having joined under the preaching of Morgan Morgans in 1890. At his funeral Mrs. H. C. Hawley and Mrs. Jackson sang feelingly and appropriately that beautiful, poetic prayer "Abide with me." Let us believe that when fast fell the, eventide, and the darkness deepened, the Lord whom he loved and served did with him abide.
To the many kind friends who came helpfully with the tender ministry of their love and sympathy during our hour of sorrow, we return our grateful acknowledgement. Mrs Hannah Long and children. CLARINDA HERALD, Clarinda, Iowa, Dec 6, 1907 |

Littell, Catherine Nealeigh - OAK GROVE BANNER, Oak Grove, Missouri, Friday, February 7, 1908. She was 86 years old. Mrs Catherine Littell who came to this county in 1866 dies at home north of here.
Mrs Catherine Littell, one of the oldest women in Sni-a-bar township died at her home in Green's Chapel neighborhood, northwest of Oak Grove, Friday, January 31, 1908. She was born in Darke county, Ohio in 1822 and was almost 86 years old when death claimed her. Her maiden name was Nealeigh.
On the 11th day of January, 1844 she was married to Archibald Littell and ten years later the family left Ohio and removed to Page county, Iowa. The journey was made in wagons and a month was spent on the road. Mr Littell assessed Page county when it contained only 500 people.
In 1866 the Littell family left Iowa and came to Missouri, settling in this county upon the McFarland farm where both Mr and Mrs Littell lived the remainder of their life. The husband died about five years ago.
Years ago Mrs Littell united with the Christian church, but there being no church of that denomination in her neighborhood she of late years worshiped with the Southern Methodists. She was a plain, old fashioned woman who believed in the Golden Rule, and she was beloved by all who bore her acquaintance. She was reared in the day when the girls spun and wove flax and wool and made their own clothes.
Nine children were born to Mr and Mrs Littell, seven of whom are living, viz: Sarah Elizabeth, wife of Anson D. Long of Iowa, Abigail, wife of Andrew Jackson, west of Oak Grove; Martha, wife of Perry King of near Lee's Summit; A.V. and Miss Lucinda Littell who live on the old homestead; Rebecca, wife of Wade Chiddix of Johnson county and Mrs Mary Mulford of Buckner.
The funeral was conducted Sunday at Green's Chapel by Rev. E.H. Gardner and the interment occurred in the cemetery nearby.
The pall-bearers were Columbus Renick, Charles Ayers, Ed Hilt, Van Tiplett, C.R. Pallette and Orville Alford.
