Heide, Geraldine Ann Bryan - Geraldine Ann (Bryan) Heide died February 28, 2010, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 25 days. She was born April 3, 1930, in Dunlap, Iowa to Chester and Margaret (Jones) Bryan. She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1947.
After graduating she moved to Council Bluffs and worked for an insurance company for a few years. She then moved back to Dunlap and worked at the Sugar Bowl, Dunlap Grill and bartended for Hugh O'Day and Fritz Baldwin. Geraldine married Ronald Heide on June 14, 1958.
Ronald died in 1982, and Geraldine moved to Clarinda, Iowa in 1984. She worked for Iowa Workforce for ten years and then transferred to Denison with Iowa Workforce. She retired from Iowa Workforce in 1998. Geraldine enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles and embroidering. She also enjoyed baking and reading.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald in 1982; two brothers, Paul and Kenneth Bryan; and three sisters, Doretha Morrison, Kathryn Neiler, and Helen Foley.
She is survived by her four children, Deb Frazier of Dunlap, Iowa, Candi Otterpohl and her husband Michael of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Norman Andersen and his wife Carol of Denison, Iowa and Rodney Andersen and his wife Joni of Clarinda, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, David Bryan and his wife Edna Mae of Colorado Springs, Colo., and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Geraldine were held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap, Iowa.
Officiating the ceremony was Benny Kline. Recorded Selections were "On Eagles Wings" and "Amazing Grace". Her final resting place was Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa.

Hazlett, Mary Katherine Null - Mary Katherine Hayzlett, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa, died Monday, March 22, 2010, at Keystone Cedars, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Shenandoah, Iowa, by Rev. Gary Fuller. The family will greet friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2010, at Hackett Livingston Funeral Home, Shenandoah. Private family graveside at Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Iowa.
Survivors include her daughters, Kay (Robert) Nelson and Mary Beth (Craig) Applefield; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew (Heather), and Nick (Aubrey); 4 great-grandchildren, Zackary, Joshua, Alexis, and Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Alice Null; her 1st husband, Willard Hale; her 2nd husband, Kenneth Hayzlett; and 1 brother, Hubert Null.
Katherine was born April 29, 1919, the daughter of Howard and Irene (Burks) Null, in Pickering, Missouri. She married Willard Hale in 1940. In 1949, she married Kenneth Hayzlett. Katherine received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. She was a valued member of the teaching staff at the Shenandoah Community Schools for 23 years. Katherine was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah, and most recently, the First Baptist Church/Church of the Bretheren in Cedar Rapids. She was a volunteer at the Shenandoah Hospital, and Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids. Katherine was a member of the Book Club at Keystone Cedars and enjoyed reading, quilting, cross stitch and traveling.

Hale, Kathleen Lucille Smith -Kathleen
Lucille Hale, 63, of
Shenandoah, Iowa, died peacefully at her home in Autumn Parks
Apartments, Shenandoah, Iowa on Monday, March 27, 2006, where she was
the manager.
She was the daughter of Marian Lucille (Rhoades) Smith and Ronald
Edward Smith, both preceding her in death.
Kathy was married to Carl Hale, and one son, Jeffery, was born to
this union. Her son is a United Methodist minister who presently
resides in Valentine, Nebraska.
Her entire life was lived in Shenandoah. She was a member of the
Shenandoah United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by many friends and family.

Methodist Church, Rev. Jeff Hale, 804 East 5th Street, Valentine,
Nebraska 69201.
Memorial services, following cremation, were held on Wednesday, March
29, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in
Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Jeff Hale. Vocalist
was Lance Hensen who sang "Oh, How I Love Jesus" and "Hymn Of Promise".
Organist was Margaret Woods. Attending the memory register was Patsy
Martin. Caring for the flowers was Judy Wilson. Honorary bearers were
Bill Dawson, Larry Olsen, Jack Wilson, Ed Martin and Rich Hembry.
Inurnment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hastie, Mary Jane
Burchett, daughter of
Milton Frank and Della S. Jackson Burchett, was born at Barnard,
Missouri on October 17, 1923, and passed away at Shenandoah, Iowa on
Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at the age of 82. Mary grew up in the
Clearmont and Hopkins, Missouri area. She graduated from Maryville High
School in Maryville, Missouri. On April 12, 1945, she was united in
marriage to Ellis U. Hastie at Grant City, Missouri. After their
marriage they made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa. Ellis and Mary owned
the Highway Grill in Shenandoah for 10 years where Mary and Ellis
worked side by side. After selling the Highway Grill Mary worked in the
greenhouses for Henry Fields Nursery Company. Mary was an active and
faithful member of the First Christian Church and the Christian Women
Fellowship.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ellis in 1997, a
grandson Larry Dean in 1985 and granddaughter Sherry in 2002.
Survivors include her daughter Joan Taylor and husband Dean of
Shenandoah; a brother Milton Burchett and wife Moreen of Lincoln,
Nebraska; grandchildren, Skip Howard and wife Cindy of Essex, Iowa,
Chris Howard and wife Brenda of Gothenburg, Nebraska; Step
grandchildren, Patricia Taylor of Oxnard, California, Herbie Taylor and
wife Lisa of Shenandoah, Iowa, Deanne Olson and husband Rich of Omaha,
Nebraska, Chris Taylor of Shenandoah, Iowa, Terry Taylor and wife
Kristi of Bellevue, Nebraska; ten great grandchildren, along with a
host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 4, 2005, at 2:00
p.m. at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were
given by the Rev. Karen Bash. Organist was Pat Larson. The First
Christian Church Choir sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace".
Attending the memory register were Julie Denhart and Mary Putnam.
Ushers were Jim Androy and Clair Johnson. Casket bearers were Herbie
Taylor, Terry Taylor, Chris Taylor, Charlie Binau, Don Peterson and Joe
Denhart. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The
Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Huseman, Ora Marie “Babe” Howard, daughter of Harry J. and Emma M. (Olson)
Howard, was born on May 12, 1914, at Cleghorn, Iowa. Babe passed away
on Thursday, September 29, 2005, at the Garden View Care Center in
Shenandoah at the age of 91.
At a young age, Babe moved with her family to the Paullina, Iowa
area. She received her education from the Paullina Public Schools,
graduating from Paullina High School with the Class of 1933. After
graduation, she ran a café with her sister, then later moving to
Sioux
City, Iowa where she was employed at the Windcharger Plant.
On November 25, 1942, Babe was united in marriage to Wayne Huseman
at South Sioux City, Nebraska. They made their home in Paullina, later
moving to Granville, Iowa before settling in Shenandoah, Iowa in
January of 1950. She worked at McLellan’s store for 25 years. After
they closed Babe worked at the Woolworth store. She was a longtime
member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah serving on their
Altar Guild.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Wayne; sister,
Harriet Dewey and her husband Vernon; and a brother, Leonard Howard and
his wife Marie. Survivors include her nephew, James Howard and wife
Cheryl of Surprise, AZ; two nieces, Dianne Whiting of Des Moines, IA
and Karalee Aeder and husband John of Watauga, TX; great nephews, Doug
Whiting and wife Niki of Columbia City, IN, Thad Kuiper, and Jason and
Torry Matson of Texas; great nieces, Jaimie Howard and Megan Whiting;
sister-in-law Mary K. Dixon and husband John of Des Moines, IA;
brother-in-law, Gene Huseman and wife Blythe of Menasha, WI; other
relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, October 1, 2005, at 10:00
a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. Words of comfort
were given by Pastor Larry Boye. Organist was Linda Micheel. Soloist
was Joyce Baldwin, who sang "Abide With Me" and "The Lord's Prayer".
Caring for the flowers were Vivian Brush, Mary Hodapp and Fonda
Shipley. Attending the register book were Laline Maher and JoAn
Ullerich. Ushers were Roger Brink and Stanley Ullerich. Casket bearers
were Don Allely, Bob Christianson, Loren Debban, Bert Shipley, Charles
Spencer and Derry Wolford. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Trinity Lutheran Church.

Horel, Harold - Harold Horel of Clarinda and formerly of rural Blanchard passed away March 31 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He was born near Braddyville on September 30, 1910 to Arthur and Ada Horel.
Harold grew up in the Coin area graduating from Coin High School in 1929. He also attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo. He was an accomplished musician and played professionally throughout the 1930s in Kansas City and many other midwestern states.
He was married to Dorothy Clement on December 18, 1941, in Kansas City and farmed near rural Blanchard until retiring in 1973. He is survived by his children Steve, Bill and Betsy Goudie of Clarinda, and Paul of Stilwell, Kans. He is also survived by his sister Hattie Leiffort of Clarinda and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, John, brothers, Lloyd, Charles, Kennard and sister, Vera Wiar.
Harold is remembered by many in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri for playing with dance bands on weekends at local affairs.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 am., Wednesday, April 4, at the Coin United Methodist church, with Rev Steve Hansen officiating. Memorials may be made to the Coin United Methodist Church. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hixson, Donald M. - Donald M. Hixson, 49, died in Omaha on Oct 5, 1994. Funeral services will be at the Dworak Chapel, 16th and Vinton in Omaha, Saturday, Oct 8, 1994, at 10 am.
Donald was born on July 4, 1945 in Shenandoah to Merle and Mary Hixson, who preceded him in death. He grew up and went to school in the Shenandoah system.
He is survived by his wife, Janice (Kiper) Hixson, four sons, one daughter, and several grandchildren, an uncle, Don Osborne, of Shenandoah, two sisters, Josephine Elliott of Randolph, and Mary Hixson Kellison, one brother, Leonard Osborne, Riverton, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Hayner, Sylvia - Funeral services for Sylvia L. Hayner will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Culbertson Mortuary in Wichita, Ks. Mrs Hayner passed away June 17 [1979] in Wichita, at the age of 77.
A native of Page County [Iowa], she is survived by two daughters, Betty Kelley of Clearmont [Missouri] and Hazel Whitehouse of Wichita, Ks; four sisters, Mrs Josie Russell and Mrs Rose Thompson of Clarinda, Mrs Verna Stone of Wichita and Mrs Hattie Raynor of San Diego, Ca; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, William, one brother and two sisters.

Haymer [sic, Hayner], William Clement - William Clement Haymer passed away on Sunday, October 16 [1977] at St Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was the son of Solomon and Julie Haymer, who preceded him in death, also four brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Sylvia, and two daughters, Mrs Betty Kelley of Clearmont, Mo. and Mrs Hazel Whitehouse of Haysville, Kansas and four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He worked for many years for Page County in Clarinda. He retired from Sidgwick County in Wichita.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, October 18 at Culbertson Mortuary with Dr Frank Winfrey of the Haysville Christian Church officiating. Internment was at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
Casket berarers were: Larry Whitehouse, Bill Kelley, Buell Bryant, Marvin Estabrook, Milford Stone, Jr., Dale Pizinger. Organist was Ada Whitcomb and vocalist was Elmer Chilress.
