[103] Edwards, Goldie Wynola Davis, age
87, of Blanchard, Iowa, died, Tuesday, August 02, 2005, at Westridge Care
& Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2005, at
United Methodist Church, Blanchard, Iowa. Visitation with the family will
be one hour prior to the service. Open visitation at Walker-Merrick Funeral
Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Coin, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the Northboro Betterment Committee. Walker-Merrick
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Goldie Wynola Davis, the daughter of Arilla J. (Thompson) and William
G. Davis was born on a farm near Albany, Missouri, in Gentry County on
February 15, 1918. At an early age, she moved with her family to Randolph,
Iowa. She attended several schools northwest of Shenandoah, Iowa. In high
school she attended, Northboro, then Blanchard where she graduated in
1936.
On February 16, 1939, Goldie was married to B.D. "Jack" Edwards
at Bethany, Missouri. She spent the rest of her life managing the family
farm near Blanchard with her husband until his passing in 2002. Goldie
and Jack had one son Thomas D. born in 1951. Goldie was baptized and became
a member of the United Methodist Church in Blanchard in 1966. She later
participated in the United Methodist Women's Organization. Goldie and
Jack celebrated their 50 years together with a reception on Feb. 1989
where they shared fellowship with their friends and neighbors. In later
years, Goldie enjoyed reminiscing and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sister, Velva
and brother-in-law, Wayne Jackson; brother, Wilber and sister-in-law,
Doris Davis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Gertie Edwards, Dean
and Blanche Edwards, Bill and Arlene Edwards and Pauline Edwards.
Goldie is survived by son, Tom and wife Becky of Blanchard, Iowa; grandsons,
Troy Edwards and wife Kristin and great granddaughter Sydney of Northboro,
Iowa, Nathan Edwards and Brent Edwards of Van Meter, Iowa; brother and
sister-in-law, Ted and Fern Edwards of Platte City, Missouri; brother-in-law,
Max Edwards of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
Goldie lived at her residence near Blanchard over sixty-five years, until
she moved to Westridge Care and Rehabilitation Facility, Clarinda, Iowa,
where she passed away August 2, 2005. She will be greatly missed by her
family as well as a host of friends and neighbors. |
[104] Edwards, Rex, age 74, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed
away Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Risen Son Christian Village. Rex
Leroy Edwards was born December 22, 1930 in Clarinda, Iowa the son of
Arnold "Cappy" and Mamie Edwards. He was raised in Clarinda
and graduated from the Clarinda High School in 1948. He worked for the
Page County Roads Department after high school and was a member of the
National Guard. Rex was united in marriage to Martha Edwards on November
23, 1959 in Omaha, Nebraska. Rex and Martha moved to Omaha in 1960 where
Rex worked for the Laborers Local #1140. He retired in 1988.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers: Joseph, Larry
and Richard. Survivors include his wife: Martha Edwards of Council Bluffs,
Iowa; daughter: Sheryl Smith and husband Mick of Palermo, Maine; son:
David McFarland and wife Diane of Red Oak, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Jennifer
Anderson, Shelley Dibiase, Daniel Smith and Donald Smith all of Maine;
Nora Smith of Kansas; Zachariah, Zebulon and Jacob McFarland of Iowa;
and Chastity Groehring of Arizona; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers:
Jack Edwards and wife Connie of Omaha, Nebraska; and Pete Edwards of Clarinda,
Iowa; sister: Iris of Missouri; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other
relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005 at
the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brad Robinson officiating.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the memorial
service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Asera Care
Hospice.

[105] Eighmy, Jack D.,
74, of Loveland, died December 7, 2005, at his home in Loveland, Colorado.
He was born January 8, 1931, to John D. Eighmy and Gladys Heller of Clarinda,
Iowa. He graduated from Clarinda High School and a two-year college in
Clarinda, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He married Phyllis
Charlene Eighmy on December 18, 1955, in Clarinda, Iowa. They moved from
Clarinda, Iowa to Loveland, Colorado in 1967.
Jack delivered mail for the post office in Clarinda and Loveland for 26
years. For 16 years he worked in the Media Center for the Thompson R2J
School District.
After retiring, Jack enjoyed bronzing various memorabilia items. Jack
was approached by Hollywood to bronze a pair of cowboy boots worn by Herb
Jefferies in the old western movies. Other hobbies included fishing, camping
and the outdoors, spending time at their summer place up the Big Thompson
Canyon.
Jack loved sports. He was thrilled to see his boys compete in sports as
he himself did. Jack joined the Denver Track Club, with son Rod, wher
he threw the shot-put and discuss for many years.
One of the many things Jack Eighmy is infamous for is his kind, giving
and loving soul. One example of this is the founding of the Little League
Baseball program in Loveland. He, among three others, created the first
Little League playing field by First Christian Church. The team was known
as "The Babe Ruth's." His impact, guidance and dedication were
extended to the community and his family.
The gentle man is survived by his wife, Phyllis Charlene Eighmy; sons:
Jay, Ric, Jon and his wife Karri, Joel, Rod and his wife Shannon; all
of Loveland. He has 6 grandchildren: Julian, Colin, Lindsey, Jacob, Kesley
and Wesley Eighmy.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Duane Eighmy, and mother,
Gladys Heller.
Funeral services will be held at Mountain View Presbyterian Church on
Monday, December 12, 2005 at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Garden in Fort Collins. Viewing will
be at 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Viegut Funeral Home,
1440 N. Boise Avenue, Loveland, Colorado. Memorial contributions may be

Clarinda, Iowa, died Friday morning, June 23, 2006, at Goldenrod Manor,
Clarinda, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at St.
Paul Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Nathan Dudley
officiating. There will be open visitation at Walker-Merrick Funeral

Maurice William Eilers was
born February 13, 1922, on the family farm near Clarinda, Iowa to John
Eilers and Lena (Gadke) Eilers. He was a graduate of Clarinda High
School. Maurice was united in marriage November 8, 1944, at Clarinda,
Iowa, to Mahree Irene Brownfield. He was a lifelong farmer and farming
was his greatest enjoyment. Maurice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa. Preceding Maurice in death were his parents
and brother Earl Eilers. Survivors include his wife Mahree of the home;
sons, James L. Eilers of Clarinda, Iowa, Mark A. Eilers of Clarinda, Iowa;
sisters, Faith Wagoner of Clarinda, Iowa, Vera Steeve and her husband
Don of Clarinda, Iowa, Verna Nothwehr and her husband Bernard of Clarinda,

[107] Enarson, Mildred L. Reed, 81 of Kearney, NE died Monday,
January 3, 2005 at her home in Kearney Manor, Kearney, NE. She was born
July 8, 1923 in Clarinda, IA the daughter of Louis Reed and Neva Belle
(Ashmore) Reed. Mildred grew up in the Clarinda areaand was a graduate
of the Villisca High School. She later moved to Omaha where she worked
for the Phone Company. On June 15, 1947 she married Millard Enarson in
Villisca, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in the Villisca and Bedford,
Iowa area. They moved to Minden, NE in 1974. Mildred worked for Pioneer
Village as a weaver and spinner, until she retired in 1998. After retiring
she moved to Kearney.
Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading,
playing cards, Bible study and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Millard January 10,
1998, a sister Helen Reed, two brothers Roland Reed and Keith Reed.
Mildred is survived by her daughters: Mikki Chavanu and husband Jim of
Kearney, NE, Marcia Steffensen and husband Mark of Council Bluffs, IA,
Marta Novotny and husband Tom of Omaha, NE, sons Michael Enarson of Omaha,
NE, Mark Enarson and wife Nancy of Gibbon, NE and Mason Enarson of Omaha,
NE. Grandchildren: P.J. and wife Katie Chavanu, Marshall and Martin Steffensen,
Colton and Laura Enarson, Rachel and Sara Novotny and one great granddaughter
Olivia Chavanu. Two sisters Ruth Pratt of New Market, IA and Dorothy Jean
Motsinger of Villisca, IA., plus nieces , nephews other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2005, at the
United Methodist Church in Villisca, with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening
at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery, near

Services for Virgina Engstrom, 95, Stanton, formerly of Clarinda, who
died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital,
Red Oak, will be Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Bethesda Lutheran
Church, Bethesda, with The Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Visitation
with the family will be at 12:30 p.m. until service time at Bethesda Lutheran
Church. Interment will be in the Bethesda Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bethesda.
Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Lutheran Church.
Virgina Engstrom was born Jan. 18, 1911, in rural Essex on the family
farm, the daughter of Oscar Phillip Engstrom and Mabel (Freed) Engstrom.
She was a graduate of Essex High School, Essex. Virgina loved the family
farm and rural life and resided on the farm until the age of 84 when
she moved to Clarinda. She remained in her own home until 2005 when,
at the age of 94, she moved to the Stanton Care Center. During her years
at home, she was an excellent caregiver to her mother, nieces and nephews.
Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed being with her
nieces and nephews. As a special gift to Virgina, to celebrate her 90th
birthday, the nieces and nephews took her to Hawaii.
Virgina was a lifetime member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church and her
church was very important to her. She was also an excellent quilter
and knitter. Family and friends have special quilts and knitted items
as treasured items to remember Virgina.
Left to cherish Virgina's memory are her nieces and nephews, Barbara
Carlson and her husband, Jerry, Austin, Texas; Carol Zahn and her husband,
Terry, Omaha, Neb.; Gwen Hart and her husband, John, LeMars; Gene Engstrom
and his wife, Tanya, Tama; many great nieces and nephews and friends.
Preceding Virgina in death were her parents; brother, Bertil Engstrom;
sister, LaVerne Bowman; and nephew John Bowman.

[109] Ennis, Michael Lynne, age 62, died Friday evening, April 29, 2005, at Nebraska Medical
Center, Omaha, Nebraska due to a motorcycle/deer accident on Highway 71,
north of Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday,
May 3, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend
Richard Iske officiating. Visitation with the family will be 7-8 p.m.,
Monday, May 2, 2005 at the funeral home. A memorial will be established.

Michael Lynne Ennis was born May 21, 1942, at Omaha, Nebraska to James
Ennis and Helen (Walgren) Ennis. Michael served his country in the United
States Navy during the Vietnam era. He was united in marriage March 10,
1984 at Omaha, Nebraska to Cheryl Johnson. Michael was a corrections counselor
at the Clarinda Correction Facility for sixteen years. He had many interests.
Michael enjoyed fishing and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed
watching their games. He loved his motorcycles and "the gang",
Blue Grass music and he played the spoons. Michael was very social and
also very spiritual. He also enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles.
Preceding Michael in death was his father. Survivors include his wife
Cheryl of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Hudson Sherman and wife Bobbie Jo of Des
Moines, Iowa; daughter, Christina Malott of Lytton, Iowa; daughter, Sarah
Hansen of Clinton, Iowa; daughter, Tamara Malott of Glidden, Iowa; son,
Jason Malott of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter, Angela Ennis of Clarinda, Iowa;

[110] Erickson, Peggy Ruth Farrell,
81 of Glenwood, Ia entered into eternal rest on June 29, 2005 at her home
in Glenwood.
She was born Oct. 24, 1923 in Granger, Ia to Forest F. and Dicie L. (Mathews)
Scroggs. Peggy was united in marriage to Lloyd Compton on June 1, 1941.
To this union two children were born, Ruth Ann and Danny L.
Peggy was a member of the First Christian Church in Glenwood, V.F.W. Auxiliary
in Plattsmouth. Peggy was
later united in marriage to Max Merton Farrell on July 19, 1952. Max passed
away April 8, 1987.
On May 19, 1990, Peggy was united in marriage to Robert Darrell Erickson.
Bob passed away Aug.
28, 1992.
Peggy loved making quilts and doilies for her family. She enjoyed fishing,
gardening and cooking for her family and friends. The neighbors would
delight in her corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day each year
and she prided herself in having the first ripe tomato from her vegetable
garden. Her beautiful yard and flower gardens embellished the neighborhood
and her yard was chosen for Yard of the Month. She had a special love
for her bird Herbie and dog Maggie.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, brothers Harold
and Leonard Scroggs and husbands Max and Bob. She is survived by her children,
Ruth Ann & husband Ace Meads of Glenwood, Ia, Danny L. & wife
Julaine Compton of Clearfield, Ia, 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren,

[111] Ewing, Jane Wright – Mrs Jane Wright Ewing
died at the home of her son, D.J. Ewing, in Harlan township, Jan 23,
at the ripe old age of 94 years. She was born in Ireland and while young
came to America. The family had lived in this county many years. The
funeral was held Friday at 11 o’clock at the Covenanter church,

Erickson, Naomi Ann Griffey - Naomi Ann Griffey, daughter of James H. and Minnie Griffey, was born Sept 22, 1903, in Tarkio township and passed away July 24, 1921, at her own home five miles northwest of Yorktown, at the age of 17 years 10 months and 2 days.
She was united in marriage to Martin Erickson Dec 22, 1920, at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage at Clarinda.
At the age of 12 years she gave her heart to God, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Norwich.
She was always faithful in her trust to her Savior, and at the last told her loved ones that God would take care of her. She was of a sunshine wherever she went.
She leaves to mourn her death a devoted husband and a loving father and mother, two sisters, Genevieve and Esther; three brothers, William Oliver, Harley Albert and Lyman Ellsworth, all at home; also a host of other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held at her home, she and her husband having lived in their new home about five weeks. She was taken suddenly ill Saturday morning, July 23, and died Sunday morning, July 24, at 2:30. The services were conducted by Rev Joseph Penn of New Market, assisted by Rev Clarence Moore of Yorktown, at 2:30 Tuesday, July 26, 1921. Burial was at the Baker Cemetery.
The singers were Mrs S.A. King, Mrs Clifford Burton, Rev Clarence Moore and George Lymer.

Eden, Carroll Levi - Funeral services for Carroll Eden, age 87, of Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Wilton Iowa, who entered into peace Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Westridge Care and Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa were held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Leslie Traylor officiating.
Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa with Masonic services by Nodaway Lodge #140 AF & AM. Memorials may be given in his name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.
Carroll Levi Eden was born November 10, 1922, near Hepburn, Iowa, the son of Luther Eden and Bessie (Cagley) Eden. He grew up in the Hepburn area with his brother and sister. Carroll graduated from Clarinda High School in 1940. He served his country during World War II in the Army Signal Corps as a Staff Sergeant.
Carroll had his training at a base in Canada with the Royal Air Force. He then was stationed north of New Delhi, India servicing the planes' radio and communications equipment that flew the Hump. Following his service in the Army, Carroll worked his way through Iowa State University graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering.
Carroll worked for Eastern Iowa Light and Power in Wilton, Iowa. He also worked with Peek's Electric and T and W Appliances in Wilton, Iowa.
Carroll was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Wilton and Clarinda. He was a 50 year member of the Masons. Carroll was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers and had served as president. He enjoyed photography and radio repair.
Carroll's family was very important to him; he grew up in the depression and later helped his siblings and parents to have a better life.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Doris Fulk.
Survivors include his brother, Lyle Eden and wife Dorothea of Clarinda, Iowa; nephew, Roger Fulk of Fulton, Missouri; nieces, Nancy Roach and husband Roger of Fremont, Nebraska, Joan Peterson and husband Dan of Stanton, Iowa, Susan Largen and husband Dan of Creighton, Nebraska and Karen Snyder and husband Todd of Omaha, Nebraska and many friends.
Carroll will be greatly missed by friends and family. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn his passing. |

Harold Rudolph Eitzen was born September 11, 1920 on a farm near Bethesda, Iowa to Herman Eitzen and Emma Sunderman Eitzen. He was baptized September 26, 1920 by Pastor Jaebker and confirmed March 25, 1934 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Harold attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Clarinda High School.
He was united in marriage to Marie Sunderman at Immanuel Lutheran Church, April 27, 1947. They are blessed with five children, Karen, Gerald, Patricia, Jacob and Roselle.
Harold was a lifelong farmer and proud cattle feeder. He helped his brother Walter farm near Villisca for a year, and then Harold and Marie moved to a farm southeast of Clarinda, East River Township, in 1948 and made their home there until 1986 when they moved to town. In his youth,
Harold took great pleasure in playing softball. As he matured he reveled in watching his children and grandchildren play sports. In his spare time he was entertained by friendly games of cribbage, pitch and throwing quarters. Old Harold had a quick wit and a knack for making people smile.
Harold was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Clarinda, Iowa, serving on several different committees. He was a lifelong member of the Page County Cattleman's Association, receiving Father of the Year award in 1979 as well as the Longevity Award in 2007.
He served as a member of the East River School Board for many years including a term as president. Harold also received the Honorary Chapter Farmer award from the Clarinda FFA.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilbur and Loyd Eitzen; sisters, Leona Robberts and husband Orville, Margie Moore and husband Charles; sister-in-law, Toni Eitzen and nephew, Merle Robberts.

Loyd Harry Eitzen was born August 14, 1922 near Bethesda, Iowa, the son of Herman Eitzen and Emma (Sunderman) Eitzen. He was the fifth of seven children. Loyd was baptized September 3, 1922 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa and confirmed April 5, 1936. Loyd was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Loyd grew up on a farm near Bethesda and attended Clarinda High School.
Loyd enjoyed farming and the lifestyle it provided. He was especially passionate about raising Black Angus cattle. Loyd had lived in the Clarinda/Villisca area most of his lifetime. He had spent a number of years at the Page County Home and had been a resident of Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca prior to moving to the Lenox Care Center in 2005.
Loyd is survived by his brothers, Walter Eitzen and wife Ruth of Villisca, Iowa, Harold Eitzen and wife Marie of Clarinda, Iowa, Raymond Eitzen of Villisca, Iowa; many nieces; nephews and many friends.
Preceding Loyd in death were his parents; brother Wilbur Eitzen; sisters, Leona Robberts and Marjorie Moore; nephew Merle Robberts; brothers-in-law, Orville Robberts, Charles Moore; sister-in-law, Toni Eitzen. Loyd will be missed by his entire family.
The memories that were made by Loyd throughout the years will remain in our hearts forever. May God grant comfort and peace to those that mourn his passing. |
Evans, Irene Patricia O'Grady - Patti Evans was born Irene Patricia O'Grady June 23, 1929 at Long Beach, California to Daniel Joseph and Irene Carrie (Chapin) O'Grady. She passed away at her residence Monday afternoon, April 20, 2009 at the age of 79.
Patti grew up in California attending Franklin High School in Los Angeles. She enjoyed and very much participated in life. While in California she began her family and raised her children there. But working on the road led to many different areas of the country and all the while Patti enjoyed the people whom she met.
She and her husband, Gail Evans, settled in Iowa after they had sold Iowa vintage and antique furniture in California and had gone back and forth with the trade. She had driven and worked at Mayflower Moving Company and other trucking companies along the way. Patti worked for twenty years in the trucking industry; she had her own company, The Drayman, which unloaded railroad cars onto trucks for local hauling then she was a dispatcher in Ft. Dodge for Royster Trucking.
Patti was a history buff and enjoyed to read and keep busy. She took time out for bird watching and some people watching during the Glenn Miller Festival which she started attending prior to her move to Clarinda four years ago. Patti is the current First Vice President and was to assume the Lions Club presidency in June.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Danny Anderson, twin brother Melvin O'Grady and son, Steve Harlock.
Patti is survived by children: Charles Ashe and wife Linda of Fullerton, California, Colleen Williamson of Victorville, California, Susan Anderson and husband Mark and their daughter Beth of Clarinda, Iowa, and Jim Harlock of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with The Rev. Dan Weibeseik officiating. Memorials are suggested to The Heifer Project. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel is providing arrangements. |
