Barrett, Dorothy Marie Cooper - Dorothy Marie Barrett, daughter of Elmer J. and Nea Ellen (Andrews) Cooper was born March 24, 1921 in Riverton, IA. She passed away January 25, 2014 at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 1 day at the Golden Living Center in Plattsmouth, NE.

Dorothy moved to Shenandoah, IA, at the age of five and received her education through the Shenandoah School System. On July 6, 1938, Dorothy was united marriage with Ross William Barrett in Tabor, IA. To this union three children were born. Ronald Ross, Barbara Ann and Judy Marie. They made their home in Shenandoah, where Ross leased trucks to Tidy House. During her marriage Dorothy was a homemaker, bookkeeper and seamstress where she made many clothes for her children and grandchildren. For greater than 20 years Dorothy cared for her husband who had fallen ill to rheumatoid arthritis as well as taking on the responsibility of managing a large acreage and home.

Dorothy enjoyed crafting, quilting, crocheting and gardening, as well as being a Girl Scout leader for her two daughters. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher and member at the Church of the Nazarene, as well as a volunteer at Garden View and a member of Care Review for that facility.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Nea Cooper; sister, Mildred; husband, Ross; son, Ronald; and son-in-law, James Drake. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Moore and husband Dave of Papillion, NE, and Judy Drake of LaVista, NE; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren, plus three more to be born later this year. She is also survived by two brothers, Raymond (Bud) Cooper and wife Doris of Shenandoah, and Kenneth Cooper and wife Betty of Shelbyville, TX; and sister, Mary Lillie and husband Bob of Grand Junction, CO; other relatives and friends.

Whether calling Dorothy mom, grandma, sister, or friend, she touched each of us in a very special way and we will all miss her very much.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home, Shenandoah, Iowa.

Book, Harold Van - Harold Van Book was born to Grace and Mark Book on Nov. 13, 1917 at the family farm near Shenandoah. He passed away Jan. 7, 2014 at Nebraska Medical Center at the age of 96.

He attended Lone Star country school and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1936. He then started farming with his father. He served in the army during World War II. During that time he married Mary Rose Leahy of Imogene in Salt Lake City. Three children were born James, Patricia, and Mary Virginia who passed in infancy.

Harold farmed all his life starting as a renter and eventually owning his own land. He also worked in electronics, first repairing television and later selling and repairing business radios including for the Shenandoah fire and police and Hackett Funeral Home.

Harold enjoyed many hobbies. He and his brother Bob enjoyed flying a Piper Cub. He was ham radio operator W0SPP. He was also an avid fisherman, gardener, and camping enthusiast. He traveled to Alaska on the Alcan Highway and later a train trip through Copper Canyon in Mexico. His later winters were spent at a fishing camp in Florida.

Family was important. In later years Grampa Book would host Bookfest each fall. Family would gather for apple picking, cider pressing and home made wine tasting.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Mary Rose, infant daughter, Mary Virginia, sister Virginia Lynn, brother-in-law Lowell Lynn, brother Robert Book.

Survivors include son James Book, wife Vicky, grandson Steve (Ann) great grandchildren Nathan and Evan. Granddaughter Beth Seiler (Steve) and a much anticipated great granddaughter, all of Kansas City. Daughter Patricia Demarest (James) of Durango, CO, grandson James (Elisa), granddaughter Katie, fiance Will Connor, and Jennifer of Denver. He is also survived by sister-in-law Wanda Book and numerous nieces and nephews.

Brockmeyer, Angela L. Irlbeck - Angela Lea Brockmeyer daughter of LeRoy and Elaine (Nepple) Irlbeck was born August 17, 1972 in Carroll, Iowa She lost her 11 year battle to cancer on February 17, 2014 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa surrounded by family and friends at the age of 41 years and 6 months.

Angela attended Manning Community Schools and graduated in 1990. She then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, where she met her future husband Mark. They were married on August 14, 1993 and she graduated from Buena Vista College in 1995.

Angela and Mark moved to Shenandoah in 1997 where Mark became Chief Engineer at KMA Radio and Angela was in Accounts Payable for Brown Shoe Fit Company. Angela enjoyed family especially nieces Haylie and Morgyn. She also enjoyed photography.

Angela is preceded in death by grandparents Alphonse and Margaret Irlbeck, Ed and Sophia Nepple, Milton and Amber Brockmeyer and Glenn and Ferne Holthaus.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Mark Brockmeyer and her cat "Baby" of Shenandoah, Iowa, parents LeRoy and Elaine Irlbeck, brother Alan Irlbeck and wife Ericka and their children Haylie and Morgyn all of Manning, Iowa, father and mother-in-law Rev. Myron and Delpha Brockmeyer of Indianola, Iowa, sister-in-law Diane Brockmeyer of Waukee, Iowa nieces Melissa Heck and family of West Des Moines and Michelle Cubit and husband Jon of Johnston, Iowa and her special family at Brown Shoe Fit Company.

Clark, Elvin "Doc" - Elvin “Doc” Clark, age 85, of Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Braddyville, Iowa entered into peace Monday, February 10, 2014 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 14, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Beckie Linn Gregory officiating. Elvin LeRoy “Doc’ Clark was born December 18, 1928 near Clearmont, Missouri to Herman Clark and Opal (Johnson) Clark. He had two brothers, Marion and Larry. Doc attended Center School and graduated from Braddyville High School in 1947. On October 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Johnson in Siam, Iowa. They were blessed with a son, Randy Lee in 1961. They lived on a farm near Guss for forty years.

Doc was a farmer and an electrician; he farmed in the Guss area and also owned and operated Braddyville Electric for sixty years. As an electrician he offered heating, cooling and refrigeration and wiring to a large area. He loved a challenge with his work. Doc expanded the business to include appliance sales and repairs. Betty and Doc moved to Braddyville in 1990 and to Clarinda in 2011.

Doc became a member of Plumb Lodge 285, Siam Iowa in 1951 and became an Eastern Star member in 1953. He was Worshipful Master for three different terms, 1960, 1969, and 1984. Doc was secretary for twenty three years 1987-2010. He was also a member of the Royal Arch and the Braddyville Christian Church. Doc enjoyed many activities including traveling, fishing, antique tractors and Ham Radio. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed supporting his grandson in his activities.

Preceding Doc in death were his parents and brother-in-law, Gilbert Burch.

Claybaker, Kathlean "Kay" Williams - Kathlean “Kay” Claybaker, age 75, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. A private burial will be in the Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa.

Kathlean Kay Williams was born the third child of Chester and Letha (Carmichael) Williams at her grandmother, Tina Williams’s house in Hepburn, Iowa on October 18, 1938 and was entered into rest on February 16, 2014. She loved growing up on the family farm just north of Hepburn and fondly remembered stripping bluegrass there and movie nights at the store in Hepburn. Sadly, the family moved to Clarinda when she was in Junior High and she went on to graduate from Clarinda High School in 1957. She moved down to Kansas City after graduating and worked for the home office of Skelly Oil before moving to Omaha to live with her sister, Carol, and work downtown at KETV channel 7.

Kay knew Leo Claybaker growing up and they began dating in 1964 and ultimately married August 1 of that year. To this union, two daughters were born, Dorene in 1965 and Danell in 1968.

Kay traveled with Leo while he worked construction in the very early years of their marriage before they settled in Gravity, Iowa. When her parents decided to sell their acreage just east of Clarinda and move to town, Kay and Leo packed up and moved over there where they lived until 1978 when they finally had the opportunity to buy the Claybaker family homestead and move west of town.

Kay was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with her daughters when they were younger only occasionally helping out at the Williams Hillside Greenhouse owned by her parents during the busy season. Leo passed away in 1984 when Dorene was 19 and Danell only 15. Kay immediately got a job as a cook at Bethesda Nursing Home before starting a 16 year working history with what was originally Douglas and Lomason in Red Oak, being affectionately known as “the old woman” in the press department. She retired from there.

Kay loved a challenge and never complained about what life gave her. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and always tried to put family first instilling good values in them. The reflection of her and her love will always shine from their eyes.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, Letha and Chester Williams; two brothers, J.D. and Howard (Pete) Williams; sister, Carol Williamson; two nieces, Diane Williamson and Angie (Williamson) Schaffer.

Delzell, Donald "Don" - Donald Delzell, age 78, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor John Heth officiating. Don was born in Hastings, NE on October 13, 1935 he attended several elementary schools while his father was in the service. He graduated high school from Vermillion, SD high school and attended the University of South Dakota for two years and then entered the Navy to serve two years on Adak, AK. He returned to Vermillion and completed his degree in education at the University. In 1959 he married DeAnna Johnson and they began their life together in Parker, SD where Don was head football coach and math teacher. After two years they moved to a much larger school at Winner, SD where Don was again head football coach and teacher. .Daughter Donna was born there in 1962.

Don completed his Master Degree studies at the University and they moved to Bedford, IA, where Don became Guidance Counselor and head football coach. Son Dan was born in 1964 and after three years in Bedford they moved to Clarinda where Don became head of guidance services in the school system. Son Dean was born in 1968. During the summers he managed the Youth Conservation Corp for a group of young people teaching them to do maintenance service projects and also providing experiences in work life opportunities. After 27 years in the Clarinda school system Don retired and took a position with Armed Services administering the Vocational Aptitude Battery exams at schools in southeast Nebraska and western Iowa.

He loved participating in athletics. While in high school he was an excellent football player, ran in track and played basketball. While in college he was a recognized all conference center in the North Central Conference and a player of the decade. That love continued after he graduated as he coached and then officiated basketball, football and volleyball. He passed on the passion for athletics to his children as they participated in their elective sports. He was also an official at track meets and score keeper for 30 years at the high school Cardinal basketball games.

Hunting, fishing and golfing were his past times in retirement. He was on the golf course almost every morning while watching the sunrise. He and his friend, Gee Robinson, made several trips to Fort Randall on the Missouri River to spend many days in a boat, sometimes even catching fish.

Don had a simple faith believing in the one true God. He taught a high school Sunday Class for twelve years providing the students with the opportunity to read through the Bible the four years they spent in his class.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Nettie Delzell and sister, Dora Lee.

Eva Marguertie Ellis was born September 28, 1934 to Clark McKinley and Maggie (Wainwright) McKinley at Villisca, Iowa. She grew up in the Villisca area and graduated from Villisca High School in 1952. She married the love of her life, Frank Ellis, November 17, 1952 at the Open Bible Parsonage in Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with a daughter, Lori. Eva and Frank made their home in Clarinda and also lived in Germany and other locations during Frank’s time in the service. Following their return to Clarinda they then lived in College Springs for 28 years and returned to Clarinda in 1985.

Eva’s working career included working at Peerless Laundry, American Loan and Finance, Hawley Drug and she retired from Ripley Trucking Company. Eva loved music and taught herself to play the piano, organ and other instruments by ear. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends with her talent. Eva had many interests; she enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, going to garage sales and auctions and in her later years she especially enjoyed drives with Frank sight seeing and watching the eagles and wild life. Her family was very important to her and loved being with them.

Preceding Eva in death were her parents and twelve siblings.

Fulk, Marvin Dean - Marvin Fulk, age 87, of Clarinda, entered into peace Saturday, Jan. 25 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda. Marvin Dean Fulk, 87, was born to Ed and Jennie (Duncan) Fulk on August 15, 1926, near Shambaugh. He passed away Jan. 25, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda.
Marvin attended Linn Point Country School and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1944. He graduated from Iowa State University in Animal Husbandry in 1952. Marvin served our country in the United States Army during World War II "occupation of Korea’ 1945-1947. He was united in marriage on June 1, 1949 to Phyllis Dunn. They were blessed with six children: Marva Jean, Eddie, Diana, Jed, Danny and Robbe.
In 1953-1956, Marvin was Dairy Cattle Inseminator at Buffalo, Minnesota. He returned to Clarinda and worked with the family on Pagemere Angus Farm. In 1971, he moved to Violet Hill, Arkansas and had his own Angus cattle farm until 1974 when he was farm manager at Newport, Arkansas. In 1981, he moved to Rapidan, Virginia as a farm manager and returned to Horseshoe Bend Arkansas in 1987 as a realtor. Following retirement in 1995, he returned to Clarinda.
Marvin was very active in 4-H, FFA (picked up rocks to build the Brokaw House) and received the Iowa Farmer Degree while in high school. He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir in his early years and served as deacon. Marvin belonged to the Kiwanis Club and served as President in 1997-1998. He enjoyed volunteering and carried meals from the State Hospital to the prison in Clarinda and also volunteered for Meals On Wheels. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and giving these items to family and friends. Marvin especially enjoyed athletic events and running the time clock for track competitions.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Fulk, Lyle Fulk and his wife Doris; sister, Wilma Sawyer and her husband Lavern; son, Edwin Ray Fulk (1972 at age 17 at Violet Hill, Arkansas and buried in Clarinda Cemetery); son-in-law, Toy Rutledge; brother-in-law, James G. Crain.

Geer, Gary Edward - Gary Edward Geer was born June 23, 1948 to David and Dorothy (Smith) Geer in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Gary lived in Shenandoah his entire life. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the class of 1967. He also received degrees from Iowa Western Community College and Buena Vista College. In 1981 he was certified as a Electronics Technician.

As a young man he worked for the nurseries. Then for Imperial Chemical, Earl May Nursery, Farmaster, then Eaton's for 33 years, retiring in 2006. He owned his own T.V. shop from 1974 to 1987.

Gary was united in marriage to Linda Carol Mutchler on October 20, 1969 in Bedford, Iowa. They resided in Shenandoah after their marriage.

Gary was a member of the Free Methodist Church, ISCET-International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians and Iowa Hot Rod Association. Gary enjoyed showing his 1948 Chevy in car shows and building model cars and trains.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dorothy Geer; brother, Ernie David Geer; and brother-in-law, Wayne Lossman. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Geer of Shenandoah; son, Jeff Geer of Laramie, Wyoming; daughter, Jill Vasquez and husband Mark of Boone, Iowa; three grandchildren; sister, Connie Lossman of Milford, Kansas; two nieces; other family and friends.

Gowing, Naomi Pauline Youngmark - Naomi Pauline Gowing, 82, of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Highlands Health and Rehabilitation, Bella Vista. She was born on August 17, 1931 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Paul Andrew and Charlene Catherine (Adkins) Youngmark.
Pauline grew up in Coin, Iowa and was valedictorian of the Coin High School class of 1948. She played basketball, volleyball and softball, participated in chorus and MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship). After graduation, she moved to Shenandoah, working as a teller at Security Trust and Savings Bank. It was there she met Jack and they married on June 13, 1952 in Clarinda, Iowa. They first lived in St. Joseph, Missouri and then in Shenandoah, Iowa before settling on the original Gowing farm three miles north of town. She also worked at Earl May Seed and Nursery through the winter months but mainly she focused on being a great home maker. In 1998 after they had retired, they relocated to Winston-Salem, NC to be near their daughter and family, then again in 2008 to Bella Vista, AR. She was most recently a member of First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista.
Pauline loved to garden, cook, fish, travel, play the piano and organ and she loved sharing that with family and friends. She and Jack enjoyed camping and traveling to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico, but Iowa always held a special place in their hearts and was always ‘home’.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, and son Randall Paul Gowing.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ron Hayes of Bella Vista, and grandchildren: Dave and Carissa Gowing of Naperville, Illinois; Jarrod Hayes and Sarah Lowe of Whiteland, Indiana; Jeff and Crystal Hayes of San Francisco, California; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 at 1:30pm at Highlands Health Care and Rehabilitation, 670 Rogers Rd, Bella Vista, AR 72715. Another celebration will be held in Shenandoah, Iowa at a later date yet to be determined.

Graham, Roy, Jr - Roy Graham, Jr., 87, of College Springs, formerly of the Bedford/Guss area entered into peace Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda with Pastor Norman Hoag officiating. Roy Graham, Jr. was born July 1, 1926 at Siam, the son of Roy Graham, Sr. and Bertha (Armett) Graham. He attended school at Hepburn and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1944. Roy served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps 1944-1946. He served in Air Rescue Unit in the Philippines. He was united in marriage July 18, 1948 to Jean M. Keller at the Christian Church Parsonage, Clarinda. They were blessed with three children, Randy, Linda and Marcia.
Following his discharge from the service Roy worked for Page County in various capacities until 1952. Roy farmed for many years in the Villisca/Guss area. In 1976, he moved to Bedford and had a trucking business until his retirement due to health in 1991 and moved to College Springs.
Farming was an enjoyment to Roy and when his health forced him to quit, he still enjoyed the outdoors. He and Jean belonged to a camping club and he took great pride in keeping his yard looking good. He enjoyed fishing and spending time traveling around the country. Roy and Jean spent fourteen years wintering in Arizona. Family and friends were important to Roy and he enjoyed spending time with them.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Graham and wife Betty; sister-in-law, Clauda Graham; one granddaughter, Traci, in infancy; two grandsons, Brad and Brenton Graham.

Guill, Erma L. Johnson - Erma L. Guill daughter of Armon and Okie (Brown) Johnson was born December 31, 1946 in Squires, Missouri. She passed away on February 6, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 67.

Erma was born in Southwest Missouri and moved to Imogene, Iowa when she was five years old. She lost her mother when she was only 17 years old. She attended both Imogene and Farragut schools.

Erma was united in marriage to Dale Guill on June 9, 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Their married life took them to many different places before returning back home to Shenandoah two years ago. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was the first woman floor supervisor at the Springfield, Missouri post office.

Erma attended First United Methodist Church of Shenandoah. She enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles, bird watching, her Koi pond, flowers, gardening, sewing and keeping up with all of her family and friends.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents Armon and Okie Johnson, sister Pauletta Doppelhammer, nephews Brian Kinney and Jeffrey McEnaney.

Hart, Ronald Dean - Ronald Dean Hart was born June 13, 1940, in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Harold John and Vivian Veora (Kelley) Hart. He passed away on January 14, 2014 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.
Ron attended Sunny Slope County School and graduated from Villisca High School with the class of 1958. On January 23, 1960, he was united in marriage to Carol Maureen McCullough. Two children were born to this union – Teri Lynn and Gregory Dean.
Ron was a farmer, a mechanic, a welder, and a business owner. He was a co-owner of Clarinda Salvage for more than 24 years retiring in 1995. During this time he and his family lived in Tenville moving to their house in Villisca in 2000.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vivian, and his mother and father-in-law, Dorothy (Knox) and Lloyd McCullough. He is remembered by his children Teri Sohl of Villisca and Greg (Teri Jo Spencer) Hart of Villisca; grandchildren: Allen (Jill Wolfe) Hart and Brian (Karissa Vaughn) Hart all of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jennifer (Phillip) Walter of Council Bluffs, Elizabeth Sohl of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Megan Sohl of Bellevue, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Hart, Isaac Hart, Brooke Hart and Parker Harstad; brother Richard (Helen) Hart of Wyoming; sisters-in-law: Donna Newcommer of Omaha, Nebraska, Arlene (Dick) Orton of Dunnegan, Missouri, and Judy (Ed) Kemper of Muscatine; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Herron, George Robert "Bob" Jr - George Robert "Bob" Herron, Jr., 75, formerly of Clarinda passed peacefully in his home in Effingham, Ill.
George graduated from Clarinda High School in 1957 and served in the US Army from 1958-61.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, George Herron, Sr. and Ruth (McClure) Herron, both of Clarinda. Herzberg, Delbert William - Delbert William Herzberg was born October 23, 1919 to Martin John Herzberg and Emma K. (Wehrkamp) Herzberg. He graduated Clarinda High School and farmed for several years. World War II started in December of 1941. Delbert and Viola Nothwehr were married January 2, 1942 before he went to serve in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. Delbert was stationed in Europe and participated in the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944. After he was discharged he returned to Iowa and continued farming. The couple bought a farm northwest of Bethesda, Iowa and raised a family of three daughters: Judy, Joyce, and Donna. They were active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed the Lutheran Laymen’s League where the couple could attend studies together and enjoy the company of friends and neighbors. Delbert and Viola were also a sales and delivery team for the Amway Company helping many people find better products to use in their homes and businesses. They retired from farming in 1986 and moved to Clarinda staying there until moving to Seward, Nebraska about 5 years ago to be closer to family.
Wednesday evening, January 22, 2014 Delbert peacefully passed into the Lord’s hands in the couple’s apartment at Heartland Park, Seward, Nebraska. He was 94 years old. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Emma Herzberg; brothers Elmer and his wife Leona, Earl, and LaVern.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Viola of Seward, NE; daughters Judy Micanek and husband Joe of Burwell, NE, Joyce Lindley and husband John of Overland Park, KS, and Donna Endorf and husband Gaylen of Tobias, NE; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brother Lawrence Herzberg and his wife Jeanne of Creston, IA; sisters-in-law Ferne Herzberg of Clarinda and Eunice Herzberg of Wichita, KS; and many extended family members and friends.

Gregory King Holt was born March 11, 1951 in Clarinda, Iowa to Russell J. Holt and Flora (King) Holt. He grew up in the Clarinda area and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1969. Greg attended Iowa Western Community College and graduated from Iowa State University. He was united in marriage March 19, 1991 to Carla Christmas.

Greg farmed with his brother, Mark in the Clarinda area. In addition to farming, he also worked for Black Plumbing. Greg had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life. Family and friends were very important to Greg and he enjoyed being with them, whether at the coffee shop, playing practical jokes or rooting for the Iowa State Cyclones. He enjoyed traveling and taking off with Keane in the truck. Greg was a quietly generous person, helping those with a need. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Clarinda, Iowa.

Hopkins, Linda Lee Davis - Linda Lee Hopkins was born October 1, 1945 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Tom and Verna (Matthews) Davis. She passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 29, 2014 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 29 days.
Linda grew up in the Farragut area and graduated from Farragut High School in 1964. She later attended Northwest Missouri State University where she received her Bachelors in Education. Linda was married to Francis Sandahl who preceded her in death in 1972. On August 10, 1973, she was united in marriage to Ralph Hopkins in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The couple lived in Denver, Colorado for a year before moving back to Iowa. They later lived in Alabama, Bedford, Iowa and settled into Shenandoah in 1977. In 1979, Linda opened Hopkins Upholstery and have operated it for 35 years. Linda was very patriotic and was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary, DAR, where she was currently the state treasurer; she also held numerous other local and state offices, Jr. Auxiliary, DFPA and was active with the local elections in Shenandoah. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Ralph and Linda traveled a lot and she really enjoyed the mountains. She enjoyed sewing, needle work, cooking, baking, cake decorating and genealogy. Her true love was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Francis; a brother, Paul Vernon Fellows.

Ketcham, Kathryn Jean Miller - Kathryn Jean (Miller) Ketcham, daughter of Fred and Essie Miller, was born December 12, 1917 in Shenandoah, IA and passed away January 25, 2014, at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, IA.

Growing up in the Shenandoah area, Kathryn received her early education at Norwich and Tarkio #8 Country Schools. She then attended Shenandoah High School where she was salutatorian of her class, as well as serving as a class officer, and received several other honors, graduating in 1935. After high school, Kathryn attended Peru State College and received a teaching certificate. Kathryn taught for several years in the Page County area.

Kathryn was married to Darrel D. Ketcham in 1939. To this union five children were born – Kenneth, Dennis, Karen, Bruce and Kim. Kathryn and Darrel lived on their farm east of Shenandoah most of their lives. Kathryn was a very active member of the Norwich United Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service, United Methodist Women, The Order of Eastern Star, the Social Hour Community Club, Altrusa Service Club, and was also a 4-H leader. Kathryn loved spending time with her family and always attended her children’s school and other activities. Some of her favorite hobbies were playing bridge or canasta, cooking, ceramics, traveling, watching her soap operas (her "stories"), and watching sports. Well into her later years Kathryn would get down on the floor, or go outside, to play with her grandchildren. Kathryn was quick to volunteer to help anyone in need in her community.

Marcella E. Lines was born on Nov. 21, 1931 on a farm northwest of Clarinda to Albert and Sophia (Nothwehr) Otte. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clarinda and confirmed on April 14, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarinda and has been a member of the St. John congregation since that time. Marcella attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1950. On Dec. 3, 1950, she married Lowell Lines in Clarinda.
While Lowell was in the service, Marcella worked for Dr. Willard Kuehn in Clarinda and worked at a hospital in Great Falls, Montana. Marcella also made numerous contributions in her role as a farm wife during her years on the farm with Lowell and the family. She was a welcoming and gracious host during her entire life, as she entertained guests in her home, both from nearby and from around the world. Marcella extended love and kindness to all that she met.
During her life Marcella was active in the LWML and the Love Circle and other activities at St. John. She was also involved with the local International Club, Clarinda Hospital Auxiliary and other volunteer organizations in Clarinda.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ivan Otte and sisters, Myrtle Larson and Lucille Royer.
Marcella is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lowell Lines of Clarinda; daughter, Gayla Tighe (Chuck) of Indianola; son, Gary Lines (Tammie) of West Des Moines. She is also survived by her sister, Selma Werner, Oviedo, Fla; grandson, Collin Tighe of Fort Dodge; granddaughter, Hannah Tighe of Indianola; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

McKay, Gary L. - Gary L. McKay, 71, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service was held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Music will be provided by William Tinker, organist and Judy Arendt, vocalist. Casket Bearers were Shawn and Connor McKay, Brian Wagoner, Bill, Scott and Brandt Snakenburg. Gary was born on Sept. 25, 1942, in Oskaloosa to James Lester and Dorothy Hizey McKay. He was raised in Gibson and graduated from Thornburg High School with the Class of 1961. Later, he attended the University of Northern Iowa.
On Nov. 16, 1963, he was united in marriage to Patty Beasley in Gibson and to this union two children, Shawn and Shannon "Bun", were born.
Gary began his insurance career in 1962 with Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. He held several positions and continually advancing his career. In 1966, Gary and his family moved to Fairfield, where he worked for Jefferson County Mutual. In 1974, the family relocated to Clarinda and Gary was named manager of Southwest Iowa Mutual Insurance Association. At that time he also started the McKay Insurance Agency. In 1980, he resigned from Southwest Iowa Mutual to devote full time to the agency and to best serve his clients and customers. He was extremely proud of the service that the agency provided to the many people and friends in Clarinda and Southwest Iowa. The McKay family moved to Grinnell in 1997, where he purchased the McDowell Insurance Agency from Cliff Strovers. Gary owned and operated the McKay-McDowell Insurance Agency until he retired in Dec. of 2007. In his 45-year insurance career, Gary established numerous friendships, partnerships and business relationships with clients, agency and company staff as well many others. Gary loved people and was very greatful for the opportunity to serve others in his insurance career.
The most important thing in his life was his wife, children and grandchildren and he enjoyed following their interests and activities. He spent much of his leisure time doing outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, golfing and yard work. Earlier in his life he enjoyed flying his Piper Cub airplane. He had a passion for horses. Gary treasured all the special times at Lost Nation with his friends whom he considered family.
Survivors include his wife, Patty McKay of Grinnell; his children, Shawn (Cathy) McKay of Grinnell and Shannon (Brian) Wagoner of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren, Ali Wagoner, Kennedy McKay, Connor McKay and Baylee Wagoner; one sister, Linda (Bill) Snakenburg of Oskaloosa; and two nephews, Scott (Tiffany) Snakenburg and Brandt (Dawn) Snakenburg.

Mooney, Margaret Anna Leu - Margaret Anna Mooney was born May 20, 1920 in Malvern, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Louise (Menschel) Leu. She was called home by her loving Savior on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2014 at the North Care Hospice in North Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 1 day.

Margaret grew up in Malvern and graduated from the eighth grade at Golden Hill Country School. On February 12th, 1941, she was united in marriage to Lowell Samuel Mooney at the parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hastings, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children, Gary, Carolyn, Joann, Marilyn, Larry and Kindra.

She lived on numerous farms in southwest Iowa before moving to Shenandoah in 1965. Margaret worked in the banking department of Henry Field's Seed and Nursery Company in Shenandoah for 26 years. After Henry Field's closed, she and her daughter, Carolyn, worked together babysitting and cleaning homes till her retirement.

Margaret was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah and participated in the church's numerous activities. She was a hard worker who enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren in different parts of the country, cooking, baking, gardening and caring for her flowers. Her true love was her family and many friends. Her personal strength, faith and endurance was an inspiration to anyone who met her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell; her daughter, Joann Mooney; son, Gary Mooney; a brother, Robert Leu; sisters, Leona Turner and Esther Razler.

Nelson, Victor Lysle - Victor Lysle Nelson was born May 14, 1920 in Yorktown, Iowa, the son of Victor E. and Esther (Swanson) Nelson. He passed away on Wednesday morning, February 19, 2014 at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 5 days.
Lysle grew up in Page County and graduated from Essex High School in 1939. He served his country in the United States Army from 1942 through 1945 where he fought from the D-Day Invasion through the Battle of the Bulge. He admitted several times that he passed up promotions because he would have to stop driving the jeep and walk with the rest of the soldiers. On June 3, 1945 he was united in marriage to Betty Louise Holmes. She preceded him in death in November of 1982. In October of 1984 he married Gladys LePorte, who preceded him in death in November of 1996.
Lysle was a proud life member of the American Legion serving in various posts, most recently Shenandoah Post #88. He had been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex, a hospital volunteer and a recent member of the Shenandoah United Methodist Church. He enjoyed trains and drinking coffee with his many friends. Lysle never knew a stranger and always had a story to share.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and an infant sister.

Newman, Thomas Henry - Thomas Henry Newman was born June 28, 1920 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of John William and Zella M. (Vickers) Newman. He passed away on Sunday evening, January 5, 2014 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Tom grew up in Page County and attended Cutter Country School south of Norwich through the second grade, then Mondamin and Denver, Colorado. In 1929 he moved back to Shenandoah and lived with his uncle Paul Vickers on the farm. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1941 through January 1946 during World War II. On June 26, 1942 he was united in marriage to Carol Bates in Tarkio, Missouri. This union was blessed with four children, Paula, Marilyn, Thomas and Larry.
Tom worked for his uncle from 1946 until 1947 when he started farming for himself in Villisca and later Shenandoah. He also drove a truck for Pioneer and Garst Seeds. He was an active member of the Shenandoah United Methodist Church, a life member of Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 and a member of V.F.W. Post 7224. He enjoyed traveling with Neihart Tours, collecting pencils and hats and playing pool, cards and other games. His true love was his family, especially dinners and other gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Neva Trullinger, Nita Lane, Marjorie Durbin, Winifred Lane and Louise Spicer; and a brother, Reldon Newman.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Carol Newman of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Paula Duncan and her husband William of Sandy, Utah, Marilyn Offenbacker and her husband Donald of Shenandoah, Iowa, Thomas L. Newman and his wife Janet of Omaha, Nebraska, Larry Newman and his wife Nancy of Bozeman, Montana; nine grandchildren, Carol Cox and her husband Mike of Farragut, Iowa, Tim Andrey of Sandy, Utah, Sandra Peavey and her husband Brian of Searsboro, Iowa, Tony Offenbacker of Clarinda, Iowa, Terri Sederburg of Shenandoah, Iowa, Brian Newman and his wife Susanne of Clive, Iowa, Brent Newman and his wife Michaela of Omaha, Nebraska, Chirs Newman and his wife Christine of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kevin Newman and his wife Andrea of Tucson, Arizona; 17 great grandchildren, Lindsey, Lacey, Thomas, Tylor Colton, Dalton, Hannah, Jacob, Andrew, Eric, Tristan, Ethan, Kathryn, Collin, Gage, Devin, Dallas and Sierra; along with many other relatives and friends.

Osborne, Lindy Sue Ossian - Lindy Sue (Ossian) Osborne, daughter of Lynn Allen and Dolores Jean (Silvey) Ossian, was born on July 27, 1973 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into rest on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, following a courageous battle with cancer for the past two years. She was surrounded by loving family and dear friends when her name was called.

Her early life was spent growing up in Essex, Iowa, where many great memories and friendships were made throughout her grade school years in the Essex Community School District. As a big sister, Lindy welcomed home two siblings, Brandy and Wendy, whom she loved deeply and shared a close bond. Lindy graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1991. Following high school Lindy attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, receiving her degree in Social Work in 1995.

On March 31, 2001, Lindy married the love of her life, Darren Charles Osborne, in Essex. Following their marriage they made their home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. To this union, two sons, Lincoln and Sam were born. They lived in Halifax until moving back to southwest Iowa in August of 2011, residing in Farragut.

Lindy worked as a social worker at Nishna Productions in Shenandoah, for Capital District Health Authority in Halifax, Rolling Prairie Case Management in Mills County and also for The Sanctuary in Shenandoah.

She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. Lindy enjoyed cooking, fine dining, stamping, leisure reading, attending her children's school and sporting events, and spending time with friends and family.

Preceding Lindy in death were her paternal grandparents, Melvin and Catherine Ossian and maternal grandparents, Bert and Erma Silvey; and Pete Young. Paulus, Robert "Bob" D. - Robert "Bob" D. Paulus was born October 5, 1927 to Edward and Olga (Gustafson) Paulus in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Bob passed away January 7, 2014 at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 86.
Bob was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho, after graduating high school he served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. He then attending and graduated from the University of Idaho with a Masters degree in Horticulture.
Bob was united in marriage to Sharon C. Osmundson on July 20, 1952 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They moved to Shenandoah and he worked for Lakes Nurseries for 25 years. They then moved to Louisiana, Missouri for 15 years before moving back to Shenandoah after he retired.
Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church serving on many boards at the church. He was active in several civic organizations through the years while in Shenandoah including, Shenandoah City Council, Shenandoah Library Board, Board of Directors for Byron Union Oil Company, President of Iowa Nursery Association, Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club and May Mentoring Program.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Jennie Paulus, and brother-in-law Jim Bennett. Steve Ripley, 42, of Weston, Missouri entered into peace Sunday, January 5, 2014.

With great sadness, we say farewell to Steve, our beloved son, father and brother. Steve was the youngest child of Gene and Joyce (Davison) Ripley. He was born May 3, 1971 in Clarinda, Iowa and grew up on the family farm near College Springs, Iowa. He graduated from South Page High School in 1989.

Steve moved to Weston, Missouri in 2002 and worked as an electrician in the Kansas City metro area. On December 7, 2007 he married Mia Patterson. They were blessed with one son, Gus.

Steve loved his sons, Spencer, Steven, and Gus, and spent many hours traveling to school events cheering them on from the stands. There were many happy days at the lake spent boating, swimming, and fishing. He was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing guitar and drums with friends as well as his sons.

Steve was predeceased by his mother, Joyce and brother, David.

Royer, Curtis G. - Curtis G. Royer, 61 of Lincoln, NE died Jan 26, 2014 peacefully at home after a long, courageous battle with cancer, with his beloved wife Amra at his side.

He was born on March 21, 1952 in Clarinda, IA to Melvin and Lucille (Otte) Royer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Clarinda. Curtis lived with devotion and fully loved life until his last breath. He treated everyone with kindness and respect. Curtis enjoyed traveling, singing, fishing, golfing, hunting, and helping others, but most of all spending time with family and friends.

Curtis attended Garfield Junior High and participated in 4H. He graduated from Clarinda High school in 1970 where he participated in football, basketball, choir. He also participated in band and was the drum major. Curtis worked for Lewistons and Weils Clothing Stores in Clarinda, as well as the Iowa State Mental Health Institute. He began to develop an interest in emergency medicine and obtained a basic medical technician degree in 1974 from Iowa Western Community College. He went on to attend Missouri State University in Maryville where he also sang in the choir that spent a summer with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. After Iowa fire and scuba diving training, he was involved in local fire and rescue. Eventually he elected to go on to paramedic training at Creighton University, graduating in 1977. He continued his career in the St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Department, becoming Chief Paramedic, where he developed the first hospital based paramedic program, consulted for the first Life Flight helicopter program in Nebraska, and operated the first Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU). He was an EMTA instructor.

In 1989 Curtis graduated from the Physician Assistant program at UNMC Omaha, after which he continued on at St. Joseph Emergency Department. He was active in the Nebraska Academy of Physician Assistants and was president of the Rural Health Caucus for the American Academy of Physician Assistants. In 1995 Curtis accepted a position with Norfolk Medical Group, which became Alegent Health, as a Family Practitioner. While in Norfolk, Curtis was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he was active in the Choir and involved in Orphan Grain Train. In Sept 2001 Curtis participated in a mission trip sponsored by Orphan Grain Train to Sierra Leone. In 2002 Curtis accepted a PA position at St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Dept Lincoln until his health declined in 2011.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his lifelong partner and wife Amra; sister Linda (Jim) Sands from Clarinda, IA; sister-in-law Senada (Bezo) Bejtovic; nephews Troy (Jenn) Sands from New Market, IA, Todd (Karen) Sands from Georgetown TX, Amel Bejtovic from Lincoln, NE; niece Yasmina (Darek) Tyson of New York City; great nephew Brady Sands and great nieces Whitney and Sydnee Sands; Aunt Selma Werner in FL, Uncle Lowell Lines in IA and many cousins.

Curtis will be cherished and missed by the Lauer family, his lifelong friends Deann, Bruce (Cindy), Arlene (Ann) Meyer and many, many colleagues, friends, and associates from St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Department and Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

Samuelson, Colleen Faye Sederburg - Colleen Faye Samuelson was born October 20, 1932 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Sherman Linea and Alma (Moore) Sederburg. She passed away on Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2014 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 19 days.
Colleen grew up in the Essex area and graduated from Essex High School in 1951. On August 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to Charles Frederick Samuelson in Vallejo, California. This union was blessed with two children, Joey and Shari.
Colleen was a hard worker. She was a waitress, owned a restaurant and ice cream shop in Essex and also worked for the Essex Locker, JC Penney and Jay Drug. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex, the American Legion Auxiliary and had been a Boy Scout Leader. She enjoyed horses, cooking, camping at the State Fair and was a mean checker player.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; a brother, Ossie Sederburg; a nephew, Darren Sederburg and a niece, Deonne Archer.

Smith, Opal Marie Bunn - Opal Marie Smith daughter of George Sante Fe and Clara Alice (Starnes) Bunn was born May 22, 1921 in Rock Port, Missouri. She passed away February 14, 2014 in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 92.

Opal's family moved often but she grew up in the Clarinda area. In 1938 her parents moved to Northboro while she stayed in Clarinda to care for a blind lady named Anna Blakeman.

Opal was united in marriage to Kenneth Eldon Smith on August 21, 1939 in Maryville, Missouri. Their married life took them first to Westboro, Missouri. They eventually moved south of Farragut, Iowa to raise a family.

Opal was a member of United Methodist Church of Farragut, United Methodist Church Women Society, Farragut Community Club, and Dancing Grannies. She also helped with Kids Club and oversaw the Anchor Apartments. She enjoyed flowers, making crafts, alter steward and performing hat shows.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Smith, daughter Judy, parents George and Clara Bunn, brother Bud Bunn.

Sunderman, Juanita Fern Hagemeier - Juanita Fern Sunderman was born May 8, 1920 at Clarinda, Iowa to Fred William Hagemeier and Mary Elizabeth (Thompson) Hagemeier. She received her education in the Clarinda elementary and high school systems.

Juanita was united in marriage to Marvin Ferdinand John Sunderman in 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarinda, by Rev. Vogel. The couple had two children: Larry and Mary Lynn “Lindy”. After they were married the couple lived northwest of Clarinda for a few years then they moved to Clearmont, Missouri in 1945 and lived and farmed there since that time until Marvin’s death. Juanita lived on the farm until 2010 when she moved to Clarinda due to her health. She passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 4, 2014 at Clarinda, IA at the age of 93 full years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 1989; parents, Fred (1969) and Mary (1972) Hagemeier; brothers Fred Hagemeier and Carroll Hagemeier; and sister Yvonne Lawson and husband Stanley.

Oscar Gustav Watte, beloved father, and son of Frank and Leona Marie (Rowures) Watte, was born on June 5, 1932 in Long Beach, California. He passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at his home in Shenandoah surrounded by his family at the age of 81 years, seven months and one day.

His early years were spent growing up in Long Beach. Oscar attended school in Long Beach and later went to work with his father in the farming operation. The majority of his life was spent in Long Beach where he worked in construction and was a janitor for six years. He also lived in New York for a short period of time. In 1989, he made the move to southwest Iowa where he resided at Coin and later made the move to Shenandoah.

Oscar spent some time in the Merchant Marines. He was also a member of a CB club while in California. He enjoyed visiting with his friends. He especially enjoyed attending local auctions where he could find antiques that he could turn around and fix up to sell. Oscar also enjoyed attending parades where he could see the restored cars and tractors that he remembered throughout his life. Most of all, family meant the most to him. He greatly enjoyed the time spent with family and particularly any of the holidays spent together were very cherished memories.

Preceding Oscar in death were his parents; son, Jerry Watte; brother, Amel Watte and his wife Andrea; nephew, Jack Watte; sister, Alice and two sisters who died in infancy. Wellhausen, Vera Bertha Marie Sump - Vera Wellhausen, age 95, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Westridge Care & Rehab, Clarinda, Iowa., Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Nathan Dudley officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa.

Vera Bertha Marie (Sump) Wellhausen was born October 7, 1918 on the family farm, rural Yorktown, Iowa. She was the daughter of William Sump and Dora (Nothwehr) Sump. She was baptized on October 30, 1918, by Pastor Horn and confirmed in 1932 by Pastor O’Bahr at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown, Iowa. She remained a faithful member her entire life. Vera received her education at St. Paul Lutheran School, Yorktown, Iowa.

On February 15, 1939, Vera married Walter Wellhausen at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Pastor G. Schaefer. Five children were born to this union: Donald Lee born July 18, 1940 (died in infancy), Janice Eileen born March 18, 1942 (died in infancy), Lynette Sue born January 12, 1944, Connie Lou born July 18, 1946 and Keith Allan born August 30, 1950. They resided on the Wellhausen family farm for 36 years before retiring to their home in Clarinda.

Throughout her years she enjoyed baking, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, and she had a love of growing flowers. After retirement, she took great pleasure in china painting with her sister, Wilma Muller.

During World War II, Walter and Vera employed German prisoners of war to work on their farm. She was later instrumental in documenting the history of the German Prisoners of War.

Faith was an important part of her life. She was active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Bible studies, Ladies’ Aid and the Lutheran School.

Vera had a great love for her family with a special interest in her grandchildren and great grandchildren….always making sure there were freshly baked cookies for them. They, along with their friends, were always welcome in her home.

Preceding Vera in death were her parents; husband, Walter Wellhausen; infant children, Donald Lee and Janice Eileen; granddaughter, Lanna (Palmer) Laughlin and her husband John Laughlin; son-in-law, Dennis Carlson; infant brother, Alvin Sump; brother, Marrel Sump; sister, Wilma Muller.

Werth, David "Dave" Harold - David (Dave) Harold Werth was born Dec. 17, 1938 in North Tonawanda, N.Y., to Harold and Edna Werth and joined his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
He was baptized on Dec. 17, 1938 at DeGraf Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda, and was confirmed May 25, 1952, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda by Pastor Paul Fretthold.
Dave married Carol Muller on July 15, 1967 at St. Paul Church in Yorktown. They lived in North Tonawanda, N.Y., Clarinda, and currently reside in Omaha, Neb.
He earned an Associate Business Degree from Bryan Stratton in Buffalo, N.Y., attending night school while working full time. His career was accounting.
He was a devoted family man and enjoyed entertaining his family with long stories, corny jokes and games of pinochle. Other hobbies include putting together Thomas Kincaid jigsaw puzzles. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching football, hockey (expecially the Detroit Red Wings), but most of all rooting for the New York Yankees. Dave had a passion for singing. For 14 years he sang with the Voices of Omaha in their annual production of Handel’s Messiah.
Dave’s family includes his brothers Pete (Peg), Jim (Chris) and sister, Mary Werth. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Edna, and brother John.
Dave and Carol have two children, daughter DeAnn (Werth) Karg, her husband Scott, and their children Austin, Kourtney and Karissa, and son Mark and his wife Angie.
A memorial service was held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 4040 N. 108th Street, Omana, Neb., on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family at 2168 North 124th Cr., Omaha, Neb 68164. These memorials will go to Gethsemane Lutheran School and the Lutheran Hour.
