Anderson, Glennys Marie Newman - Glennys Marie Anderson (Newman) died unexpectedly at her home on April 12, 2016 in Essex, Iowa at the age of 77.

Glennys was born on July 7, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa to Violet (Linder) and Walter Newman. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1956. She married Edward Anderson in 1956, they later divorced.

Glennys was a hard worker. She was a lifelong farmer raising a variety of animals and managing cropland at the home where she grew up. She worked for Earl May Seed and Nursery Company in the I.T. department from which she retired in August 2015 after 37 years of employment. She worked for Hy-Vee grocery store for approximately 10 years and several other jobs while her children were growing up. Many people loved her baking for which she made hundreds of cakes, cookies, pies, rolls, etc. She was passionate about her flower beds and was most content being outside working in them or tending to her cattle and kitties.

Glennys loved her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed having more time for the youngest, Steele and Jagger, with whom she had the pleasure to babysit regularly and spend time with when visiting the farm. The cookie refrigerator was a favorite for them and the granddogs.

Every holiday and birthday was a special occasion for all to gather and enjoy. She loved hosting family gatherings and also entertaining club members and other guests. She was always prepared with plenty of food and hospitality to have a house full of guests.

Glennys is survived by her children Nancy (John) Kripal of Silver City, Iowa; Annette (David) Brown of Boone, Iowa; Brenda Quesada of Westminster, Colorado; Dan (Julia) Anderson of Shenandoah, Iowa; Angie (George) Shaw of Shenandoah, Iowa; and Shannon (Randy) Hilker of Shenandoah, Iowa; her adored grandchildren Steele, Jagger and Ian Hilker, Carissa and Amanda Brown, Marissa Anderson, Steven Braymen, Chelsea and Chad Quesada, Jessica Kuntzweiler; great grandchildren Hazil Quesada, Avery and Graceyn Quesada; and Dakota, Gracie, and Levi Kuntzweiler; many extended family members and her household companions Snoopy, Lucky and Fuzz. She was preceded in death by her parents Violet and Walter Newman and sister Karen Clark.

Anderson, Nora Jean - Nora Jean Anderson was born October 4, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Hannah (Sidell) Anderson. She passed away late Sunday evening, March 20, 2016 at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Lois grew up and attended school in the Clinton area. She later moved to Clarinda, Iowa which is where she made her home. She worked as a nurse aide at Goldenrod Manor for many years. She loved her family very much. This showed in the relationship that she had with her sister Lois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lois Anderson; and two brothers, Arthur and Eugene Anderson.

Survivors include her brother, Harold Anderson of Clinton, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Judy Anderson of Mountain Grove, Missouri; along with other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Clarinda Cemetery at Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery. There will be open visitation held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda.

Black, William "Bill" - Bill Black, age 86, of Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Shambaugh, Iowa entered into peace Monday, March 28, 2016 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. William Earl Black was born April 5, 1929 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa to Edwin Black and Lillie Mae (Graham) Black. He grew up in the New Market area and graduated from New Market High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Ruth Glassgow on July 2, 1949. Two children were born to this union, Mike and Debbie. They divorced in 1985. Bill and Sharon (McNutt) Goodpasture were united in marriage October 5, 1985 and he gained a son, Curt. They lived on a acreage south of Clarinda, later moving into Shambaugh.

Bill worked in the plumbing business for Art Lines and then became a partner in Lines & Black Plumbing & Heating on April 1, 1959. On October 8, 1962, when Art retired Bill bought the business renaming it Black Plumbing & Heating. Bill was a proud “Lennox” dealer for forty years. In 2000, he sold the business to Mark and Patty Weese; continuing to work for a bit longer before retiring. Bill cared for his customers and as his granddaughters said, “Everyone knows Grandpa Bill”.

Bill was a member of the First Christian Church. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden and in his younger years, he rode Yamahas and snowmobiles. For several years, he grew and picked sweet corn that his granddaughters sold in front of the shop. He also delivered “garden goodies” around town to many friends. One summer, Bill hired one of his granddaughters and her best friend to weed the garden and discovered that they had pulled the veggies and left the weeds! Bill loved to spend time with friends and family, fishing, having fish fries, watching NASCAR, and gardening.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Lillie Black; son, Mike Black (09/29/2005); infant grandson, Jeremy Wagoner; brother, Harold Black and wife Elaine; sister, Velma Randolph and brothers-in-law, Herman Randolph and Donald Cupp.

Bramble, Betty June Sullivan Graham - Betty June (Sullivan) Graham Bramble, daughter of George Washington and Vera Marie (Good) Sullivan, was born on December 6, 1943 in Mills County, Iowa near Malvern. She passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the age of 72 at Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Growing up, Betty lived outside of Malvern. She attended the Malvern Community Schools, graduating from Malvern High School with the Class of 1962. After graduating, Betty and her sister, Jo, co-owned and operated a café in Malvern.

On April 26, 1966, Betty was united in marriage to Howard D. Graham at Nebraska City, Nebraska. After getting married, Betty joined Howard in the farming operation near Farragut, Iowa, later moving to a farm near Anderson, Iowa. In 1969, Howard and Betty purchased a home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

After a few years in Shenandoah, Betty began working at the Henry Field Seed & Nursery Center, later joining Sac N’ Save, until the grocery store closed. At this time is when she started her career in the kitchen at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. She worked for a time at Fair Oaks Care Center before ending her career back at the hospital working in food services.

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed reading, attending her grandchildren’s activities, fishing, bird feeding and bird watching. She particularly enjoyed the hummingbirds and finches that visited her back yard. Betty was a member of the Shenandoah First United Methodist Church.

Preceding Betty in death were her parents, Vera and George Sullivan; parents-in-law, M. Ruth and Clarence Graham; her husbands, Howard D. Graham and Ed Bramble; daughter, Mary L. Graham; brothers-in-law, Larry Hedlund, Larry Smith, Kenny Smith and Jim Brown; and sister-in-law, June Brown.

Survivors include her six children, David Graham and wife Toni of Shenandoah, Rod Graham and wife Julie of Shenandoah, Maggie Knoles and husband Jack of Lakewood, CA , Angie Kinney and husband Calvin of Essex, Rodney Bramble and wife Heidi of Storm Lake, IA and Andy Bramble of Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren, Tracy, Heath, Crystal, Nichole, Kathleen, Lacy, Brooke, Dawn, Barbie, Courtney, Caleb, Colby, Brian and Cameron; 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Jo Hedlund of Shenandoah, Deloris Smith of Shenandoah and Ginny Smith and husband Bruce of Gulf Port, MS; parents-in-law, Margie and Wes Fritz of Fonda, IA; many other relatives and friends.

Calhoon, Richard Ross - Richard Ross Calhoon passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, NE.
He was 81 years old.

Richard was born to Ross B. and Nellie P. (Reed) Calhoon on July 17, 1934 in Ames, Iowa. He joined two brothers, and a sister on the family farm near Shambaugh, Iowa. He attended Linden Point School near Shambaugh through 8th grade and Clarinda, IA High School, graduating in 1952. Richard was active in sports, especially basket ball, and FFA as well as being an honor student. He was chosen as the Representative Boy in his senior class, having been chosen for outstanding scholarship, character, and sportsmanship.

Richard received an associate degree from Clarinda Junior College in 1954 and a degree in Business Administration from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA in 1956. Also in 1954 Richard was married to his college sweetheart, Margaret (Peg) Long, and he was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. Richard was a proud Marine and his leadership qualities were well recognized and utilized. He was a company commander at Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA when he was honorably discharged in 1959 as a 1st Lieutenant.

Richard and his family moved to Beatrice in 1965. He was a District Manager for Old Northwest Company, developing and training agents to sell group medical products. Richard had excellent skills as a salesman and was known for his honesty and kind, helpful spirit.

An active member of the Beatrice community, Richard was a member of St John Lutheran Church, Past President of Beatrice Rotary Club, an active member of Beatrice A.F. And A.M. Masonic Lodge, York Rite Beatrice, Scottish Rite and Sesostris Shrine Temple, Lincoln. From 1974 to January, 1989 Richard served as a member of the Board of Directors, Beatrice Community Hospital. He was treasurer of the Hospital for 13 years and chaired the Long Range Planning Committee. He also served from 1994 – 2007 as Chairman of Health Systems of Beatrice Inc., the holding company of the various Beatrice Community Hospital Entities.

Richard served on the Beatrice Board of Public Works from 1977 – 2007, holding the office of president of the board for 24 of those years . He also served as a member of the Gage County Board of Supervisors from 1989 to 1995. The most important focus of his life was his family.

Richard is survived by his wife Marilyn (Bath), and by his three children; Linda (Rick) McGuire of Warrenton, MO, Susan (Russ) Ankersen of McCook, NE, Michael (Renea) Calhoon of Estancia, NM and their mother, Margaret Calhoon of McCook, NE. Grandchildren Rick and Andrea McGuire, Stephanie (Timothy) Starnes, Melissa (Brandon) Brill, Ryan (Keri ) Ankersen, Mikalya, Leanne, Kaitlyn and Joshua Calhoon and 5 great grandchildren. Stepchildren, Mark (Karen Rentas) Bath, Susan (Fred) Zander, and Steven (Susan) Bath and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Vada) Calhoon of Spencer, IA, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Wesley Ross Calhoon; brothers Marvin and George Calhoon and their wives and his sister, Mildred Sorensen and her husband.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, April 29, 2016 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Reverend Greg Gabriel and Reverend Myron Meyer officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. Military graveside service will be provided by Bitting-Norman Post #27, American Legion in Beatrice. There will be a reception at the church following the interment. The body will lie in state from 10-9:00 PM Thursday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 6:30-8:00, and at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday. Cline, Fredrick Johnson - Fredrick Johnson Cline, son of C. Neil Cline and Pearl Viola (Johnson) Cline, was born on July 15, 1937 in Clarinda, Iowa. He entered into rest on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was 78 years, 6 months and 19 days old.

His early life was spent growing up in southwest Iowa, splitting time between Farragut and Clarinda during his grade school years. He graduated from Clarinda High School with the Class of 1955. Following graduation, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy that same summer. He served four years, 1955 to 1959. He was first stationed in Japan, before being transferred to San Diego, California as a radioman at a marine base.

On August 21, 1960, Fred was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Ann Bang, in Shenandoah. To this union two children were born, Curt and Cindy. Following their marriage they made their home in Omaha, Nebraska where Fred completed his education at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, graduating in 1962. While completing his degree, he worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a registered laboratory technologist.

In 1963, they moved to Harlan, Iowa, where Fred worked at Myrtue Memorial Hospital as a lab and x-ray technician. In 1969, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota in the Hospital Administration program, receiving his Master’s Degree in 1972. Following graduation, the family moved to Canton, South Dakota, where he worked as an assistant hospital administrator. Returning back to southwest Iowa, Fred worked as Administrator of the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg before making their final move to Shenandoah, where Fred was the Administrator of Hand Community Hospital.

Very active in the communities in which he lived, Fred belonged to several service organizations. He was a Boy Scout Leader in Council Bluffs, Harlan and Hamburg. One year while in Harlan, four of his troop members attained Eagle Scout, prompting a special visit from Iowa Governor Harold Hughes for the ceremony. He was a member of the Harlan Jaycees, serving as their President and Regional Vice President. He also was a member of the Lions Club in Canton, South Dakota, the Kiwanis Club in Hamburg and the Rotary Club in Shenandoah. He served on the Shenandoah School Board from 1979 through 1982 and on the Board of the Area 13 Educational System from 1983 through 1994.

Fred was very active in the Shenandoah First United Methodist Church serving on most of the committees over the past 35 years. He ushered for many years, was a member of Men’s Fellowship Group and helped start the Forum Sunday School Class. Acting was a passion of Fred’s, having roles in 12 Southwest Iowa Theatre productions. He especially enjoyed “South Pacific”, “Camelot” and “1776”. He received three awards for Best Bit Player in the roles of “Music Man”, “1776” and “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum”. He greatly enjoyed all his travels through the years, experiencing nature and especially hunting with his companion, Sam, in the great outdoors.

Preceding Fred in death were his parents; father-in-law, Villum Bang; mother-in-law, Helena Bang; and eternally at his side, is his beloved vizsla, Samantha Leigh (Sam). He is survived by his loving wife of over 55 years, Carol Ann Cline of Shenandoah; their two children, Curt Cline and wife Atsuko of San Francisco, CA and Cindy Kitsmiller and husband Tim of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Izaac Kitsmiller, whose attending Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS; other relatives and many friends. "His greatest pleasures were his family, by far the most enjoyed."

Fred J. Cline, 78, of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Cline; son, Curt Cline and wife Atsuko of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Cindy and her husband Tim of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Izaac of Kansas State University, Manhatten, KS; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial in Fred's name is being established.

A private family interment will take place at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah at a later date.

Coston, Harold Lloyd - Harold Coston, age 73, of rural Coin, Iowa, entered into peace Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Nathan Dudley officiating. Harold Lloyd Coston was born July 21, 1942 in New Market, Iowa in the home of his parents, Thomas Walter Coston and Verla Marie (Moore) Coston. Most of his childhood was spent in New Market and he graduated from New Market High School. On February 15, 1963, Harold and Pauline McElroy were united in marriage in Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Kim and Kevin.

Harold was the owner/operator of Harold Coston and Son Trucking. He was a truck driver for his entire adult life following in his father’s footsteps. He enjoyed his occupation and was hard working, dependable and caring. Harold also enjoyed operating his antique Farmall tractor, going on tractor rides and attending Plow Days. He loved having coffee and visiting with friends. Harold always put his family first and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Preceding Harold in death were his parents; infant brother, Darrell Coston; brotther Gary Coston and infant grandson, Justin Larson.

Crowley, Jane Elizabeth Cowan - Jane Elizabeth Crowley, daughter of Clarence and Earline (Schipper) Cowan, was born July 6, 1936 in LeMars, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at her home in Colorado. She was 79 years old.

Jane grew up in LeMars, Iowa and graduated from LeMars Central High School with the class of 1954. On September 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Earle Thomas Crowley at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars. To this union three children were born; David, Janet and Scott. Following their marriage they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she worked for a couple of years until they moved to Shenandoah in 1956.

Jane was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild. She enjoyed cooking, decorating, bridge clubs, neighborhood coffees, watching sporting events on TV and keeping up on current events with the news. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked following the activities and achievements of her family.

Jane moved to Denver, Colorado in November of 2011. She resided at Caley Ridge Assisted Living the last 4 ½ years where she had many friends.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband Earle, and her parents Clarence and Earline.

Culbertson, Wayne Harold - Wayne Harold Culbertson, son of Fred Lee and Oris (Miller) Culbertson, was born on March 4, 1942 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Wayne passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was 73 years old.

Wayne grew up in Coin, Iowa. He attended school in Coin to the sixth grade. He worked for a nursery in Shenandoah for several years. He remained at home to enjoy the company of his parents. He moved to Shenandoah after his parents passed away.

Wayne enjoyed roller skating, cars, music, movies, good food, motorcycles, pets (especially his Dad's pet raccoons) and telling stories.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Fred (Jan. 2000) and Oris (Dec. 1994) Culbertson and brother Dale Culbertson.

Wayne is survived by his brothers Max Culbertson of Nemaha, Nebraska and Kenneth Culbertson of Red Oak, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arnold William Dammann was born September 3, 1935 at the home of his parents in rural Clarinda, Iowa. He was the only son of George T. Dammann and Emma Emille Marie Bartels Dammann. Arnold was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School through 8th grade and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1954. Arnold was united in marriage on June 10, 1956 to Mary Barr at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with four children, Danny Lee, Terry James, Debra Lou and Trulla Ann.

Following high school, Arnold farmed with his father and he also was a substitute mail carrier. Arnold and George built back the buildings taken in the 1964 tornado. In 1965, Arnold began helping Monsanto Chemical Company perfect herbicides (a new era). Along with farming, in 1972, he became a dealer for Vermeer Balers and was made a district manager in 1975. He found the baler business to be very rewarding and following the sale of the business to Whip Sales, he continued three years as a salesman. He stayed active by helping with Jones Twine and Net Wrap and setting cemetery stones for three years.

Arnold was very active in his church and community. It was important to Arnold to put church and family first and use the talents that were given to us by God. Supporting the Clarinda Lutheran School and missionaries were a priority. He served his church in maintenance, as an usher, financial reporter, elder, secretary and president. Arnold was also very active with the Nodaway Valley Historical Museum and served as president four years. He helped at the Clarinda Chamber in different ways and also supported the Clarinda Foundation. In retirement, Arnold organized 18 books of antique machinery, family and friends, history of Immanuel Church, Page County and local towns and points of interest. He enjoyed making things from wood for benefits and for his family and had an extensive barbed wire collection.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Dammann and fourteen aunts and uncles.

Annabelle E. (Denny) Fidler was born January 5th, 1926, in Augusta, IL, the daughter of Alex and Elizabeth (Widener) Denny. She entered into rest on Thursday April 21, 2016, at the Clarinda Memorial Hospital, Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 90.
Annabelle was born and raised in Augusta, IL. Her father owned the Strawberry Cream Dairy farm that her family operated, where she and her younger brother Phillip grew up working on the farm.
She graduated from Southeastern High School, Augusta, IL in 1944 and attended Quincy University thru St Mary’s Hospital, Quincy, IL, where she graduated in 1948 with her RN degree.
She then moved to Iowa City, Iowa, to work at the University Hospital, where she met Kenneth Fidler who was also attending the University to receive his BA degree in Business. They were married on December 25th, 1950 in Villisca, Iowa, and had two children.
In 1952 Annabelle became a mother, so she quit working to become a “stay at home” mom, but always kept up her Nursing License. In 1972 she went back to school to “catch up” on all of the latest medications and returned to work at the Red Oak Memorial Hospital and later at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute. Upon her retirement she continued to work as a Home Health Care provider for several years, within the Villisca area. She enjoyed crochet, sewing, and gardening.
Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Elizabeth Denny, as well as her brother Phillip Denny. Her survivors include her husband Kenneth Fidler; her son, Russell Fidler and her daughter Karen (Fidler) Bain; two grandchildren, Ryan Bain (Kellie) and Justin Bain (Tia); and great granddaughter, Charlee Bain, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that are left to cherish her memory.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday May 14th, 2016 at the Wolfe Funeral Chapel in Villisca, Iowa. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Guss, Iowa at a later date. There will be a time of fellowship and a meal served immediately following the service at the Villisca Community Building. Fisher, Ann Berniece Carlson - Ann Berniece Fisher was born July 22, 1940 to Bernard and Gladys (Buterick) Carlson. She was the second of five children. She attended country school and graduated from Stanton High School. On February 6, 1959, she married Richard “Gale” Fisher from Villisca. To that union, 4 children were born.
Ann loved and embraced many titles such as wife, daughter, sister, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Mother-in-law, cook, baker, friend……and the list goes on. She was truly great at all of them!!! I don’t think she ever said a curse word but she knew what to do with a bar of Ivory soap if one of her kids did. “Farmer’s Wife” is a job she lived and breathed. It is an occupation with one of the biggest job descriptions if you really break it down and Ann did it with pride and compassion. Whether she was plowing the fields, driving the baler, moving equipment, feeding all the help, mowing the yard or whatever else needed to be done, she did it without complaint. At the same time, she was raising kids, doing laundry, keeping up with household chores, working the garden, canning and freezing produce so nothing went to waste. She always wanted to have her own fruits and vegetables to eat all winter and some to give away too. Ann was also an entrepreneur and always did something to make a little side money. She raised laying hens and had an egg route in town for many years. She also raised broilers and sold farm raised dressed chickens. Ann was also known for her exceptional baking. She looked forward to the craft shows each fall and was usually the first to sell out of her goods. She had her “regulars” with special orders that kept her baking all year long. She also loved baking for the annual Swedish Supper at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Luckily, she shared her talents with her kids, grandkids and many 4-Hers through bread-making workshops. Promoting agriculture was very important to her and through the years she was very active in organizations such as the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Women in which she was awarded the “Homemaker of the Year”, the Montgomery County Pork Producers and Porkettes, in which she was awarded the “Bell Ringer Award”. After her kids were in school, she also worked off the farm at Caseys, the school and the Villisca Good Samaritan Center where she worked her way from a kitchen aide to the Dietary Supervisor before retiring in 2006.
The Iowa State Fair was something the whole family looked forward to each year. There was a crowd to be fed each meal at the camper and she always made sure everyone felt welcome and there was plenty to go around. She loved to play games, do puzzles, quilt with her church friends and spend time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was an exceptional role model to all.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Gladys Carlson and a granddaughter, Heather Fisher. She is survived by her husband Gale Fisher, children: Jerry (Carolyn) Fisher, Villisca, Kim (Mark) Shirley, Pleasantville, Vonda (Steve) Renfrow, Pleasantville, Darrin (Heather) Fisher, Villisca, 12 Grandchildren: Aaron (Leslie) Shirley, Holly Fisher (Nick Butterfield), Jamie Shirley, Tyler (Annie) Fisher, Nicole (Brandon) Bruning, Bronya (Casey) Willmore, Darbie Renfrow, BreeAnn Fisher, Karlee Fisher, Hattie Renfrow, Briar Fisher and Jolee Fisher, 5 Great-grandchildren: John Shirley, Mark Shirley, Blake Butterfield, Jackson Fisher and Tucker Butterfield, siblings: Kathleen Suchting, LeRoy Carlson, Mary Lee (Gary) Maher and Ladonna (Gary) Tye, many other family and friends.

Funetes, Patricia Ellen - Patricia Ellen Funetes was born August 8, 1942, the daughter of Charles Jennings and Ila Mae Smith. She passed away on Sunday morning, February 7, 2016 at her home in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 2 days.
Pat grew up in the Sharpsburg area and later lived in Bedford, Villisca and Clarinda. On July 8, 1983 she was united in marriage to Manuel Fuentes, Jr. Following high school Pat attended Iowa Western Community College and received her associated degree. She worked in social services for West Central Development for many years. She enjoyed genealogy, traveling with her husband and much loved cat, Jessie Lee and spending winters in San Antonio, Texas. She was a very busy person who was always on the go.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Roger Dean Baker.

George, Kenneth Ray - Kenneth Ray George, son of Floyd and Daisy (Berlin) George, was born on December 17, 1952 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He entered into rest on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Bergen Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 63.

Kenneth lived with his family in a number of towns in Missouri and Iowa; including Noel, Missouri, Blanchard, Iowa and Newbloomfield, Missouri. While building a fireplace for his uncle in Essex, Iowa he met his future wife Barbara J. Jenkins, at her home in Shenandoah. Their first date was on New Year's Eve in 1976. Later, on June 5th, the couple was married in Moberly, Missouri. Kenneth's father, Rev. Floyd George officiated and the wedding was held in the home of the groom's sister, Leta. The couple was married for over 39 years. Kenneth and Barbara were blessed with two daughters on December 4, 1979. The twin girls were born in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Early in their marriage, Kenneth worked in construction while living in rural Shenandoah. He was a partner in brick laying company, a job he enjoyed very much. He later worked construction on grain elevators installing air vents all over Iowa and the surrounding states. The family later moved to Nebraska City where Kenneth worked at St. Mary's Hospital there. The couple later bought a home in Riverton, Iowa. The girls were in first grade and attended the Farragut Community Schools. While living in Riverton, the couple raised pygmy goats. Kenneth enjoyed playing with the goats and also had a small work shed where he made small wooden items including doll furniture and a handmade wooden Rolls Royce that he gave to his father. The couple moved to Shenandoah when Barb's health required that she live closer to her doctors. Kenneth was a deeply compassionate man whose religious beliefs governed his life. He was baptized into the Jehovah's Witnesses in 1994. His daughter, Shanen was baptized the same year. Kenneth served in the Shenandoah Congregation in subsequent years and enjoyed the public ministry for the rest of his life. He always credited his faith to the loving kindnesses from Jehovah and exemplary example of Christ Jesus, we are eternally grateful.

Kenneth later ran the Southwest 8 Senior Center mealsite at Forest Park in Shenandoah. His compassion and his professionalism endeared him to many of the people in the community. His warmth and genuineness was well known among his friends. He held to the belief that had brought him such comforts should be shared. He set a fine example to his family and his congregation. Kenneth passed away after a three month illness. "We love him and will forever remember him as a gentle and warm individual."

Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; twin daughters, Shanen George and Rayla Henner and her husband Mathew; sister, Leta Sills; four brothers, Jim, Darwin , John Paul and Mark George, all of Missouri.

Gibson, Donald Gene "Hoot" - Donald Gene Gibson, son of Hayes Swisher and Clara Dale (Brooks) Gibson, was born on June 29, 1945 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on March 28, 2016 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Bellevue, Nebraska. He was 70 years old.

Don went to Elementary and High School in Shenandoah, graduating with the class of 1963. He entered the U.S. Army in May of 1963, he was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army in November of 1963. He then served in the U.S. National Guard QMC until July of 1970.

On April 27, 1968 he was united in marriage to Rita Gutschenritter at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene.

Don was employed by the City of Shenandoah and worked in many departments from 1967 until his retirement in 2000. From 2003 until 2005, Don and Rita managed the restaurant at the American Legion Country Club. He also helped at the family farm in Imogene until his illness.

Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 22 Club, American Legion Post 88, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 1122, Shenandoah City Council and Page County Landfill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, spending time with his grandchildren, golfing and cooking.

Don was preceded in death by his two sons Donald Jr. and T.J. Gibson, parents Hayes and Clara Gibson, father and mother-in-law George and Cecelia Gutschenritter, sisters Della Ruth Gibson, LouAnn Dailey and Clara Stout, brother Harlen Gibson, brother-in-law Glenn Brownlee and nephew Russell Gibson.

Don is survived by his wife Rita Gibson of Shenandoah, daughter Angela Maher and husband Brad and their children Quinn, Declan, and Naela Maher of Farragut, daughter Melissa Franks and husband Craig of Essex, brothers Ed Gibson and wife Charlotte of Shenandoah, George Gibson and wife Connie of Shenandoah and Ronald Gibson of Texas and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah with military rites provided by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 88.

Girouex, Robert Eugene "Bob" - Robert Eugene “Bob” Girouex, son of Frank Stacey, Sr. and Helen (Miller) Stacey, was born on August 27, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 70 years, 6 months, 15 days.

Growing up, Bob lived in the Hamburg and Riverton, Iowa area. He attended the Riverton Community Schools until they consolidated with the Farragut Community Schools. Bob graduated from Farragut High School with the Class of 1964.

On March 20, 1968 Bob was united in marriage to Lois Hopkins in Hamburg, Iowa. To this union three sons, Paul, Bruce and Brent were born. Following their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah where they raised their family.

Through the years, Bob worked for The Weekly Times, the Tall Corn Hotel and last worked at Earl May Seed & Nursery. He was an Eagles Club member for over 40 years. He was also active in the St. Jude’s Bike-a-thon. In his spare time he enjoyed shooting 8-ball and snooker, gardening, fishing, motorcycles and riding dirt bikes with Larry Heard. As a kid, he enjoyed horse riding and helping his dad on the farm. His greatest inspiration was his dad, Frank Stacey, Sr. “For a stepson, he treated me awfully well.”

Preceding Bob in death were his mother, Helen Stacey; sisters, Donna Mortimer and Alice Apperson; and brothers, Howard Girouex, Jr. and Richard Girouex. Hakes, Marvin "Bud" - Marvin “Bud” Hakes, age 82, of rural Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Friday, March 25, 2016 at Westridge Care & Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Jamie Mogler officiating. Marvin Harold Hakes was born April 13, 1933 at the family home near Hawleyville, Iowa to Harold Hakes and Margaret (Green) Hakes. He attended Hawleyville Schools and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1951. During High School he participated in Track and was a State Qualifier. Bud met Austa Martin at a dance in Clarinda and the couple were united in marriage December 5, 1954 at the United Methodist Church, Bedford, Iowa. They shared 53 wonderful years together. Bud and Austa lived north of Hawleyville where their daughter Kathy was born in 1957. The family then moved to Gravity and a son, Ed was born in 1965. They returned to Hawleyville and the Hakes family farm.

The love of farming was instilled in Bud at young age and he continued to farm his entire life. He was especially fond of the spring time during the calving season. Bud was notoriously late after admiring the new baby calves and would compliment the new “mom” by saying “you sure have a fine new calf”. Bud was especially proud of his son Ed becoming the 5th generation farmer on land that had been in the family since 1856 and his grandson Hadley whom Bud was grooming to be the 6th generation farmer. Bud would say about Hadley “he’s quite the boy”!

Working on the farm was very enjoyable to Bud and was his “hobby”. After retirement Bud and Austa enjoyed going to the casino, eating catfish and smoke their cigarettes. They enjoyed card parties and mountain oyster fries with the Maher, Dugger and Churchill families and prank phone calls were sometimes involved. Bud also enjoyed metal detecting, hunting mushrooms and telling the history of Hawleyville. He loved his cup of coffee and always had the coffee pot on and welcomed anyone to come in and have a cup of coffee.

Preceding Bud in death were his parents; wife, Austa Hakes (3/1/2008); sister, Virginia (2008).

Hallam, Susie Ella Mae Tuck - Susie Ella Mae Hallam, daughter of William Thomas and Margaret Jane (Foley) Tuck, was born May 11, 1927 in Maryville, Missouri. She passed away on April 22, 2016 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was 88 years old.

Susie grew up in Tarkio and Maryville, Missouri area. She graduated from high school. On July 28, 1954 she was united in marriage to David Oliver Hallam in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

Susie worked at Kendalls Café and the Tall Corn. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband David Hallam, children: Danny Hallam and Donna Peters, sisters: Evelyn Ratliff, Nina Tuck, Mandy Conn and Mary Hickman.

Susie is survived by her daughter Debra Hallam, grandson Brandon Hallam and wife Kendra, great-grandchildren Kenzlee and Cameron Hallam, brother Floyd Tuck and wife Macel all of Shenandoah, Iowa, numerous nieces, newphews, other relatives and friends.

Jones, Ronald - Ronald Jones, age 69, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Ridgecrest Center, Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 11,2016 at Ritchie Funeral Home , Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Greg Young officiating. Ronald Richard Jones was born May 2, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa to Richard Jones and Lena (Casteel) Jones. He grew up in Clarinda attending Clarinda Community Schools and graduating with the class of 1964 from Clarinda High School. Following high school he entered the United States Navy serving on the USS Repose (hospital ship) off of the coast of Viet Nam as an operating room technician. He served 1964 to 1968.

Upon his return from the service he moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he worked in construction thirty years retiring in 2010. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Sedlak January 18, 1976 in Omaha. To this union two children were born, James and Shannon.

Ron was an avid reader and researcher spending many hours at the library with his notebook and pencils. He was also a huge Cornhusker fan.

Preceding Ron in death were his parents and brothers-in-law, James Thacker and Bill Meek.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanne Jones of Omaha, Nebraska son, James Jones and wife Renee of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Shannon James and husband Rodney of Omaha; grandchildren, Maverick and Ace Jones and Cameron, Carley and Chloe James; brothers, Lonnie Jones and wife Charlotte of Clarinda and Don Jones and Bonnie Crum of Clarinda; sister, Joan Meek of Fairfax, Iowa; nieces; nephews and many friends. Knizley, Marquis, Ruth Stickel - Ruth Marquis, daughter of Elias Vern Stickel and Effie Mae Wilson Stickel was born August 30, 1920 in St. James, Minnesota and passed from this life Friday, March 4, 2016 at Westridge Quality Care & Rehabilitation at 95 years of age.

Ruth received her education in the Truro and New Virginia schools and graduated from New Virginia High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Gerald Marquis on November 29, 1941 at New Virginia, Iowa. A week after their marriage Pearl Harbor was bombed and Gerald and Ruth enlisted in the United States Military. Since they were not allowed to join the same branch, Gerald enlisted in the United States Marines and Ruth Enlisted in the United States Navy and served her country with the W.A.V.E.S. for two years during World War II.

Following their service, Ruth and Gerald made their home in California and their marriage was blessed with two children, Michael and Marla. For a number of years, Ruth was the secretary at the assessor’s office in Redding, California. Ruth enjoyed sewing, baking, square and round dancing as well as crossword puzzles.

Ruth and Gerald moved to Iowa in 1984 and Gerald passed away in 1985. She was later united in marriage to Fred Knizley on May 25, 1994 in Clarinda, Iowa.

While in Clarinda, she was a member of the Square Dance Club, Hospital Auxiliary and the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also loved to travel. Two of her most memorable trips were to Russia and China.

Those relatives who preceded Ruth in death were her parents; husband, Gerald Marquis, sisters, Maxine Brim, Bette Core, and her brother, Doyle Stickel.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory; son, Michael (Dora) Marquis of Klamath Falls, OR; daughter, Marla (Martin) Mattes of Clarinda, IA, grandchildren, Jeffrey Marquis of Truckee, CA; Andrew (Kathy) Mattes of Greenwood, IN and Scott (Kimberly) Mattes of Des Moines, IA. Ethel Louise Henn Lee, age 101, died Monday morning April 1 in WilMed Nursing Care Center, Princeton, NC. Born March 25, 1915 in Page County to the late Clarence and Rosina Hall James, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Robert Henn and Sidney Lee and sons, James Henn and John Henn.

Surviving are her daughter, Janice Miller and husband Joe of Princeton, North Carolina; sister, Gladys Jones of Sedra Wooley, Washington, 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Lind, John D. - John D. Lind was born January 18, 1926, in Wahoo, Nebraska, to Dave and Anna Lind. John died March 20, 2016, in Red Oak, Iowa.

He is survived by: his wife Agnete “Nita,” children Mary (Tom Lytton) Moline, IL; Anne (Richard McAfee) Clayton, MO; Carl (Leah Emerson) Aliso Viejo, CA; Mark (Kelly Brown) Kearney, NE; Steve (Karen) Onalaska, WI; Erik (Kalyani Natarajan) Honolulu, HI; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; Sisters Ruth (Bill) Scott, Lois Bettis. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Sara Jo.

John graduated from high school in Ashland, Nebraska, then attended the University of Nebraska from 1944 to 1949 where he met Nita. He received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture. John and Nita were married in Cordova, Nebraska, in July of 1949. They began married life in Newman Grove, Nebraska, where he taught on-farm training to veterans. Their first daughter, Mary, was born while they lived in Newman Grove. In 1950 they moved to Ralston, Nebraska, where their daughter Anne was born. While in Ralston, John managed farms for Farmers National Company. They moved to Essex, Iowa, in 1953 where he worked as a salesman for Peet’s Feed selling feed and feed supplements in southwest Iowa. In Essex, Sara Jo was born but died in infancy. It was there that they had four boys, Carl, Mark, Steve, and Erik. John started work at the First National Bank of Essex in 1956. He bought a farm in Bethesda, Iowa, in 1964 but continued to reside in Essex. John’s position at the bank allowed him to make many friends in Essex and surrounding communities. Running the farm allowed him to pass along both his love of the land and his work ethic. In 1985 John and Nita moved into the house on the farm and he retired from the First National Bank in 1986.

John enjoyed many activities. He had a lifelong passion for music. He was in the marching band while at the University of Nebraska. He was both choir director and choir member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex. He was a member of the Plainsmen men’s chorus and later the hand bell choir at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Faith was a central part of John’s life. He was active at both St. John’s and Bethesda Lutheran Churches and served a four-year term on the board of Lutheran Social Services. In the late 60’s John fulfilled a lifelong dream and got his pilots. John purchased a Cessna 140 airplane. He enjoyed flying to different destinations in the Midwest to visit their children, to watch Mark play football, and to go fishing in Minnesota. John was a lifelong angler. He enjoyed spending time fishing at local ponds and travelling to Minnesota, Ontario, South Dakota, and Saskatchewan. He loved to catch walleyes but was just as pleased to show his catch of crappies, bass, or catfish. Another activity that John loved was travel and camping. The family spent many summer vacations in the camping trailer that John designed and built. He loved to travel with Nita to visit their family around the country and abroad.

John had a love of comedy and jokes. He was quick to come up with one liners. His laugh was infectious and distinctive. Few meals or encounters were passed without him telling his latest joke. He loved to sit and read the newspaper and the comics were definitely a highlight. His children loved to gather around and hear him laugh as he read them.

He was deeply loved by his family and will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church at Bethesda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Bethesda Lutheran Cemetery. There is no scheduled visitation.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Hillside Missionary Church with Pastor Brian Bontrager and Pastor David Miller officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery, Weeping Water, Nebraska. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Donald Lorensen, 86, of Clarinda, Iowa went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 29, 2016.
Donald Leroy Lorensen was born on March 3, 1929, in Manley, Nebraska to Fred and Helen (Coon) Lorensen. He graduated from Louisville (Nebraska) High School in 1946 and Nebraska Wesleyan College in 1950. After beginning his career as a general manager of a department store in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, the family then moved to Clarinda, Iowa in February, 1963 where he owned and operated Peterson Mercantile. He retired from the store in December of 1989 and continued to live in Clarinda.
He was devoted to God and to his loving family. He was a board member and served as treasurer for many years at Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda. He spent many hours helping to re-model the old Hy-Vee Grocery Store into the current Missionary Church.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Helen Lorensen; brothers Roger Lorensen and Kenneth Lorensen; daughter Donna Lee Lorensen; brothers and sisters-in-law Roy and Hazel Wipf and Willard and Midge Wipf; nephews Tom Wipf, Will Wipf, and Jim Wipf.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phoebe (Wipf) Lorensen; daughter Linda Lorensen Erickson and husband Roger of Shenandoah, Iowa, and son Fred Lorensen of Monroe, Iowa: grandchildren Amy (Jon) Bruney of Fremont, Indiana, April (Patrick) McDermott of Madrid, Iowa, Andrea (Chris) Finck of Winterset, Iowa, Stacy (Tim) Neibergall of Monroe, Iowa, Gina (Brandon) Brown of Huxley, Iowa, Todd Lorensen of Creston, Iowa; 15 great grandchildren; many friends and church family.

Harlan G. Mace, age 76, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Friday, April 8, 2016 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. No services are planned. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Harlan G. Mace was born October 24, 1939 to Harley and Hazel (Ridenour) Mace in Clarinda, Iowa. He attended Clarinda High School. Harlan served in the United States Army and the Air Force. Upon completion of the service he worked on a cattle ranch in western Nebraska for many years.

Harlan was united in marriage to Linda Adair and they were blessed with a daughter, Shana. He retired from Lisle Corporation in 2014. He enjoyed collecting old comic books, watching old movies and he spent many hours reading history books.

Harlan is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; five siblings; brother-in-law, Lester Williams and nephew, Jaymes Williams.

He is survived by his daughter, Shana of Clarinda; sister, Shelia Williams of Clarinda and
many nieces and nephews

Mascher, Connie Belle Whitehill - Connie Belle (Ayers) Mascher, was born August 3, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to Irene Whitehill. She passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Connie attended country schools in Page and Fremont counties and Coin High School for four years graduating in 1946. Following graduation she worked for Henry Field & Nursery in Shenandoah.

After work one beautiful September day Connie and a friend were walking to a restaurant and were stopped by two young men, one of them was Glen Richard Mascher. The flip of a coin changed their lives, and Connie and Richard were married three months later on December 18, 1946 in Atchison, Kansas along with Connie's cousin, Boyd Whitehill and Gwen Bayless. Both couples enjoyed 50 years of marriage.

Following their marriage Rich and Connie farmed for Donald and Helen Pierce for one year. They then moved into Farragut where together they worked as janitors for Farragut Schools. Richard then went to work for Farmers Coop for 22 years. Connie stayed at home to raise their children, Dennis Richard, Glenda Kay and Carol Eileen, until their children were all in school. She then worked at various companies in Shenandoah including Tip-Tip, Montgomery Ward, Goldberg's Clothing and Spurgeon's. Later she worked for Herriman's Grocery Store in Farragut when Rich began driving for Farmaster as an over-the-road truck driver.

Connie had many interests and was very involved in her community. She was an excellent seamstress and made all the dresses for her daughters' weddings and the dresses for her son and daughter-in-law's double wedding. Connie also enjoyed raising flowers and gardening and won many ribbons at the Fremont County Fair throughout the years. She enjoyed oil painting, dancing with Rich and the Dancing Grannies, singing, cooking and baking and collecting and writing poems. She loved watching the birds and squirrels out her big window in her kitchen.

Connie was a member of the Farragut First United Methodist Church. She served as a Den Mother, and was a member of and held offices in the United Methodist Women's Club, Garden and Craft Club, Senior Citizens, Service Mothers, Gold Star Auxiliary, and the Care Review Board at the Sidney Health Care Center. In 1988, Connie was chosen as First lady of the Year by the Phi Beta Kappa Sorority.

Connie put her family and home above anything else. She was so proud of her family's accomplishments and was there to cheer them on whenever possible. Nothing pleased her more then having her family together and fixing a "family dinner."

Connie was preceded in death by her husband Richard (1997); mother and step-father; sisters-in-law Elaine Peters and Dorothy McIntyre and husband Richard.

She is survived by her son, Denny Mascher and wife Gloria of Farragut, Iowa; daughter Glenda Huntsman and husband David of Davis Junction, Illinois; daughter Carol Bryson and her companion Jim Polsley of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren Christopher Mascher and wife Corrie of Columbus, Ohio, Lindsey Mascher and fiancé Lance Foster of Shenandoah, Iowa, Jeremy Huntsman and wife Jeanne of Des Moines, Iowa, Kristina Huntsman of Des Moines, Iowa, Tiffany McCarty and husband Ian of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Nichole Passons and husband Andrew of Denton, Texas; great grandchildren Dakota and Jayden Mascher and Sean Gnat, Peyton and Denver Sickler, Cadence McCarty, Abigail Passons and another great-grandchild due in April; brother Charles Ayers of Essex, Iowa; sister-in-law Doris Cooper and husband Bud of Shenandoah, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

McEnaney, Delbert Celestine - Delbert Celestine McEnaney, son of Cyril Bernard and Cecilia Marie (Broxterman) McEnaney, was born on October 28, 1945 in Elmo, Missouri. He passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at his home in rural Shenandoah at the age of 70.

Delbert graduated from Farragut High School in May 1963 and worked in construction that summer and winter. In January of 1964 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was military police all years of enlistment. He was married in Biloxi, Mississippi in May of 1965. Then in June of 1965 he was transferred to St. Mihiel, France. In January of 1967 he was transferred to London, England. Where he was stationed at the Base where Glenn Miller last flew out of, RAF Welford. His oldest daughter was born in a London hospital. He was honorably discharged in October of 1967. He returned to the states in 1968. He was divorced in 1987. On August 15, 1989 he was united in marriage to Carol Sue Madsen in Sidney, Iowa.

Delbert worked construction in Southwest Iowa for 31 years until numerous surgeries forced him to retire. He farmed south of Shenandoah having a small farmstead by today's standards. He raised corn, soybeans, alfalfa hay and had a small herd of Registered Angus cows and calves.

Delbert was preceded in death by parents, his sister Delores and brothers Richard, Gerald and Derald McEnaney.

Delbert is survived by his wife Carol McEnaney of Shenandoah; children Christine Louise McEnaney of West Des Moines, Iowa, Wendy Marie Deist and husband Jeff of Pasco, Washington and Katharine Mary Sanford and husband Shawn of Des Moines, Iowa; step-son Curtis Dale Hamm and wife Yulia of Lafayette, Colorado; grandchildren Erin Claeys of West Des Moines, Iowa, Emma, Samuel and Angus Deist of Pasco, Washington, Nicole Hilton, Owen and Devon Hamm of Lafayette, Colorado; sisters Marceil (Pete) Selkirk of Tonawanda, New York and Anita (Don) Foster of Palmyra, Missouri; brothers Art (Sheila) McEnaney of St. Joseph, Missouri, Don (Carolyn) McEnaney of Tarkio, Missouri and Leon (Kay) McEnaney of Shenandoah; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Norris, Robert Eugene - Robert Eugene Norris the son of Paul Burrett and May Davies Norris was born at Blue Earth, MN., on July 5, 1938 and entered into rest at Shenandoah, IA. on March 28, 2016 at the age of 77.

Robert's early life was spent in the towns of Thompson, Storm Lake, and Des Moines, Iowa, graduating from high school at Indianola, Iowa in 1956. He graduated from Simpson College in January of 1961. Bob moved to Bloomington, Il. where he worked in the management program at the Midwest Division of State Farm Insurance. On July 2, 1961 he was united in marriage to Edith Marie Shultz at Marble Rock, Iowa. In 1964 they moved to Des Moines, IA. where Bob entered Law School at Drake University graduating and admitted to the Iowa State Bar in 1968. After graduating Edi and Bob moved to Shenandoah where he joined the law firm of Clovis and Falk, soon to be know as Clovis, Falk and Norris Law Firm. In 1969 Bob was appointed Shenandoah City Attorney, a position he held until his retirement in 2014.

Bob served his country as a member of the Iowa National Guard-3657th Ord Co (D3) November 7, 1955 to November 6, 1958; HQ & Co A 734 Ord Bn November 6, 1958 to April 20, 1960. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army Reserve October 31, 1963.

Bob was active in many civic and community activities: Chamber of Commerce (President 1975), Shenandoah Economic Development Corp. (President 1988-90),  Scoutmaster 1968-83, member of First United Methodist Church and AdultSunday School Teacher, Shenandoah Rotary Club (Past President), Rotary District Foundation Committee, Paul Harris Fellow, M.A.Y. Mentoring Chair and Advisory Board, Board of Directors for City National Bank (Century Bank), Greater Shenandoah Foundation, Shenandoah Sister City, Page County Endowment Fund and trustee for Cy and Carolyn Rapp Charitable Trust.

Bob received many honors and awards through the years including Eagle Scout, Friend of Youth Award, B.S.A. Silver Beaver Award, Simpson College Alumni Loyalty Award, and Cornerstone Award by City National Bank. He was a proud alumni of  Simpson College, and served on the Alumni Council as Chairperson 1983-1984. Additional honors include: Friend of Education, Iowan of the Day at the Iowa State Fair in 2014, and Person of the Year 2014 by the Valley News Today. He and wife, Edi were selected as ShenFest Grand Marshals in 2014. 

Bob loved his family, enjoyed photography, reading, the mentoring program, reading to 2nd graders, having coffee with the "coffee guys" at the Sanctuary and traveling.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and May Norris, brother Tom Norris, his in-laws, Raymond and Lanora Shultz, brother-in-laws, Earl Shultz and Paul Shultz. 

Survivors include his loving wife Edi; son Mike Norris, Papillion, NE. and friend Beth LaFave; sister-in-law, Judy Norris of Franklin, TN.; sister-in-law, Margaret Beck (Reldon) of Las Cruces, NM. Grandchildren are Ian Norris of San Antonio, TX., and Sydney Norris of Omaha, NE., Nephews are Joe Beck, Loren (Julie) Beck, Steve (Missy) Norris, Jim (Eunice) Norris.

In lieu of flower memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church for Helping Hands Program, Rotary International Foundation, M.A.Y. Mentoring or Fremont-Page County Relay for Life.

Oxenford, Patricia Jo (Amsden) - Patricia Jo (Amsden) Oxenford was born Dec. 23rd, 1937, in Carroll, Iowa. I grew up on the Amsden family farm and graduated from Scranton Consolidated School-Scranton, Iowa in 1955. I was a member of Rainbow and was involved in Methodist youth activities. I attended Commercial Extension-School of Commerce in Omaha, Neb. I was employed in Omaha two years as a private secretary. I attended modeling school with doing some modeling on TV and was in Omaha's Auto Show representing Miss Buick.

I married Charles Oxenford Aug. 3rd 1957 in the Methodist Church in Scranton, Iowa. We lived in Wayne, Nebraska for one year 1957-1958 where Charles received his Bachelor's degree. Debora Jo was born in 1958.

We moved to Lamar, Colorado and lived there from August 1958 to 1965. Charles taught Business at the Junior College and also worked in a Certified Public Accounting firm.

Cherrill Sue was born in 1961 and Janine Marie in 1963. For the summers of 1959, 1960 and 1961 our family moved to Greeley, Colorado where Charles earned his Master's Degree.

Our family moved to Carroll, Iowa 1965 to 1967. In 1967 we moved to Shenandoah, Iowa

Charles obtained his C.P.A. certification and bought his own practice. Our country home was built in 1974.

After our retirement we spent half of the time in our second home at Sturgeon Bay, Wis. acquired in 1987. We did extensive traveling to over 50 countries and six continents during our retirement years.

My interests were my family, quilting, knitting, family genealogy, my dogs, cross-country skiing at our country home, going for daily walks with my dogs, working part time at Charles' office and doing secretarial duties for other businesses, PEO, love of music, my friends and traveling.

Pearson, Jack Norman - Jack Pearson, age 94, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his residence in Clarinda. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Mike Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Jack Norman Pearson, the only child of Ernest and Elsie (Davison) Pearson and was born January 15, 1922 in Clarinda, Iowa. He grew up in the coal mines and was a life time resident of Clarinda graduating from Clarinda High School in 1940 and from Clarinda Community College. He entered the Army Air Corp March, 1943 and graduated from cadet training June 1944 and was discharged September 1945 as a Second Lieutenant. His military occupational specialty was fighter pilot and training other cadets. Jack and Darleen J. Waxmonsky were united in marriage October 7, 1951.

Through the years, Jack’s occupations were as varied as his interests; he was a “Jack of all trades”. He followed the trade of watchmaking for several years along with other employment (working for the phone company, delivering milk and others) . Jack retired from the Clarinda Mental Health Hospital working in various departments for eighteen and half years.

Jack was an active member of the First Christian Church serving in several capacities through the years. He had an excellent singing voice and greatly enjoyed being in the choir and also singing solos and had sang the Sunday before his death. Jack also enjoyed singing in the combined choir for Clarinda Sings. He was a member of the Nodaway Lodge 140, the Clarinda chapter of the R.A.M. and the local Stick & Rag flying club. Special interests were flying and Ham Radio. Fishing in Minnesota was great fun for him with special friends. Jack was a voracious reader and traveler with keen insights on the world around him. He lived life to the fullest and with gusto.

Preceding Jack in death were his parents; wife, Darleen Pearson and sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Kaserman and Virginia VanAlstine.

Left to cherish his memory are special friends, Steve and Sherri Brown of Clarinda; nephews, Larry Lee VanAlstine and wife Pam of Chatham, Illinois; niece, Joanne VanAlstine-Nulph and husband Larry of Waukee, Iowa; great nephews, Lee VanAlstine and Todd Winchester; great niece, Nicole Nulph Saegh and husband Maher and son Matthew of Clive, Iowa and many, many friends.

Peery, Freda Joan Pease Dutcher - Freda Joan Peery, daughter of Jack Edson and Wanda Lorraine (Anderson) Pease, was born on September 20, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa. She entered into rest on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 69.

Joan’s early life was spent growing up in Clarinda. At the age of 13, the family moved to a farm near Shenandoah, Iowa. She attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1964. While in high school, Joan worked at the Shenandoah A & W and following graduation, she worked as a Nurses Aide.

In 1968, Joan was united in marriage to her first husband, Mitchell E. Dutcher of Wichita, Kansas. Mitch died tragically in July, 1969.

In 1973, Joan was united in marriage to Jimmie L. Peery. Following their marriage they resided in Red Oak, Iowa before moving to Shenandoah. Joan was a loving wife and homemaker to her two children.

Preceding Joan in death were her parents, Jack in 2004 and Wanda in 2008; first husband, Mitchell Dutcher in 1969; brother, Michael Bedell in 2005; daughter, Sarah (Peery) Turner in 2006; and husband, Jimmie Peery in 2015. Left to cherish her memory are her son, daughter-in-law and five grandchildren, Tracey Dutcher and his wife Soneeta and their three daughters, Kitarrah, Sierrah and Marandah, all of Johnston, IA and Justin Turner of Shenandoah, IA and Sean Peery(Walker) of Omaha, NE; other relatives and friends.

As per Joan's wishes, she was cremated and no services will be held. Inurnment of the cremains will take place at a later date in Hazel Dell Cemetery near Clearmont, Missouri.

Peterson, Kendall J. - Kendall J Peterson was born August 8, 1950 in Red Oak, Iowa to Wayne H. and Evelyn M. (Stearns) Peterson. He entered into rest early Monday morning, March 14, 2016 at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 8 days.
Kendall spent the first 10 years of his life in the Nyman area and attended school in Red Oak. In 1960 the family moved to the farm northeast of Coin. He attended school in Coin and College Springs, graduating from South Page High School in 1969. After a short stint in college he joined the US Army and served in Vietnam. He was stationed in Colorado Springs at Ft. Carson where he met and married Shirley in 1973.
Upon his discharge from the Army they returned to the family farm. He loved farming, even as a little boy, he was born to be a farmer. He especially loved spending everyday with his dad and having coffee and visiting with his mom. They raised hogs until 2008 and he said he sure doesn’t miss that! He took such pride in taking care of his land and equipment. He loved his life and all the visits with his friends. He was generous to a fault, giving was his “Hobby” and got much joy from sharing with everyone.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Shirley; his two sons, Andrew and Joseph; a step son, Eric; 10 grandchildren and step grandchildren; a brother, Steve; a sister, Patricia Vogel; cousins, Cheryl Berry Turner, Gary Peterson, Debbie Koehler, David Peterson, a sister-in-law, Candy Soots; a very special sister-in-law, Jacque Kolman and her husband Leo; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
Kendall will be laid to rest in the Polsley Cemetery northeast of Coin overlooking the land that he loved with his family and neighbors that meant so much to him.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Polsley Cemetery of rural Yorktown, Iowa. There will be open visitation on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda. Phillips, Linda Darlene Baker - Linda Darlene (Baker) Phillips, oldest child of Earl Lawrence and Alma Darlene (Rine) Baker, was born June 26, 1949 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered Heaven on March 5, 2016.

She spent her early childhood years in Shenandoah and graduated with the Shenandoah High School class of 1967. In June of 1974, Linda married Carl F. Phillips in Shenandoah. The couple resided in Hamburg and Sidney until their divorce in August of 1996.

Her working career allowed her to gain experience in bookkeeping, banking and medical transcription, having had jobs at Henry Field's Nursery & Seed Company, Iowa State Bank, Shenandoah Medical Center, Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Timothy Fursa at Shenandoah Doctors Clinic and most recently typing for Myers Typing Service. She a member of the First Baptist Church of Shenandoah.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother A. Darlene Baker in October of 2005 and father Earl L. Baker in November of 2012.

Linda is survived by her brother Dennis D. Baker of Shenandoah; sister Connie Gibson and husband George of Shenandoah; niece Joni Kalkas and husband Kip of Shenandoah and their children, Cydnee Nicole, Kallee Jo and Everlee Faith Kalkas; nephew Scott Baker and wife Kate of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and their child Alexandria June Baker, and other aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

Burial will be held at the Old Memory Cemetery in rural New Market, Iowa.

Ross, Myron E. - Myron E. Ross son of Bert and Mabel (Whitehill) Ross was born on September 24, 1931 in Shenandoah, IA. He entered into rest on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.

Myron attended Essex Community School and graduated with the class of 1950. On August 6, 1952 Myron was united in marriage to Donna Young at her parent's home in Essex and to this union three children were born: Cathy, Jolene and Tom.

Myron farmed for his mother, Mabel, until he was called into the Army in 1954 where he served two years with the last 9 months in Korea. After his honorable discharge he worked in Essex for various businesses including Saunders Dairy, Essex Lumber, Johnson Bros Mills, he owned and operated Ross Construction and retired from the US Postal Service where he was a rural mail carrier in 1994.

Myron was a faithful member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church in Essex. He also was a volunteer fireman for many years, served on the Essex City Council and a member and Commander of the American Legion #333 where he served in the color guard at funerals and football games.

He had a passion for sports, especially football and never missed an Essex football game in over 40 years. He loved following all his children and grandchildren in all their activities and was a proud supporter and faithful follower of Essex Athletics and the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and taking each grandchild a summer camping trip. In his retirement years he took up golfing and several years were spent wintering in Texas where he made many friends.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Orpha Rose Kite, Miriam Ross at birth and brother, Raymond Ross.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna Ross of Essex; three children, Cathy (Jesse) Shane; Jolene (Brent) Younggren and Tom (Lisa) Ross all of Essex; grandchildren: Jeff Shane of Shenandoah, Jill Brdicko of LaVista, NE, Jake (Allie) Younggren of Olathe, KS, Matt (Kelsey) Younggren of Cedar Rapids, IA, Carli Ross of Council Bluffs, IA, Dylan Ross of Maryville, MO and Skylar Ross of Ankeny, IA and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother George (Catherine) Ross of Essex, IA and sisters-in-law, Mary Maher and Ruth Miller both of Red Oak, IA and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Burial will be held at the Essex Cemetery with military rites provided by Shenandoah American Legion Post 88 and former Essex American Legion Post 333 Color Guard members.

Violet Bessie Rouse was born December 27, 1920, in Blanchard, Iowa, the youngest child of Peter Damewood and Annie (Cash) Damewood. She grew up in the College Springs area attending Amity High School, received her GED and attended college later in life. She was united in marriage to Eldon Rouse on October 30, 1937 in Troy, Kansas. They were blessed with two sons, Richard and Roger.

Violet and Eldon lived in several places during their marriage including Westboro, Missouri, Casper, Wyoming, College Springs, Iowa and Violet moved to Clarinda following Eldon’s passing. She was an Avon Representative for many years and enjoyed serving her customers. Violet was an active lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and currently a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Violet had a special talent for growing award winning African Violets. She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards, bingo and watching T. V. Jelly beans and macaroon cookies were a special treat to her.

Preceding Violet in death were her parents; husband, Eldon Rouse (1988); four siblings, John Damewood, Joseph Damewood, Opal Richmond and Marjorie Aubert.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Richard Rouse of Clarinda and Roger Rouse and wife Margaret of Clarinda; grandchildren; nieces; nephews and friends.

Sheirbon, Rita - Rita D. Sheirbon, 70, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Shanandoah, IA, She was a graduate of Indiana University, and was a social worker for Arc of Fort Wayne, The American Cancer Society, Catholic Charities, Job Works and Goodwill. She also volunteered at Erin's House and Study Elementary School. Rita collected antiques and enjoyed decorating. Surviving are her husband, Terry L. Sheirbon of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Bonnie (Joseph) Mautz of Naperville, IL; grandchildren, Maggie (Jeff) Moore of San Francisco, CA. and Bradley Mautz of Naperville, IL; sister, Terry (Carl) Christensen of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Me'l Christensen of Port Townsend, WA. and Amy Christensen of Albuquerque, NM; nephew, Eric Christensen of Coda de Casa, CA. and her loving dog Gracie. Shilhanek, Steve Paul - Steven Paul Shilhanek was born July 23, 1952 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Leonard Francis and Shirley Elizabeth (Wilson) Shilhanek. He passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 2 days.
Steve grew up in Tama, Iowa and graduated from Tama High School in 1970. He then attended college and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975. Steve took his first teaching job in 1975 with the Clarinda Community School District where he taught until his retirement. On May 23, 1986, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Louise Eike in Clarinda, Iowa. With this union he gained three children, Michelle, Chris and Jennifer.
Over the years Steve was a proud member of the Clarinda Jay-Cee’s and was very involved in the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He was an avid sports fan who loved bowling and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed fantasy sport leagues, playing and taking stats for his slow pitch softball team, and recording stats for his grandson’s baseball team. His true love was his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Shilhanek.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Shilhanek of Clarinda, Iowa; his children, Michelle Kirchert and her husband Alan of Bethesda, Iowa, Chris Shilhanek of Des Moines, Iowa, Jennifer Bramble and her husband Tim of Clarinda, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Blake and her husband Luc, Devon, Lacy, Maddy, Reyna, JennaLee, McCartney, Lennon, Tyson and Harrison; one great grandchild, Drake; two brothers, Larry Shilhanek and his wife Ann of Strawberry Point, Iowa, Mike Shilhanek and his wife Sandi of Garland, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel Eike of Clarinda, Iowa, Larry Eike and his wife Becky of Amana, Iowa, John Eike of Albuquerque, New Mexico; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Squires, William Douglas - William Douglas “Will” Squires was born November 30, 1954 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Mahlon and Marie (Loughry) Squires. He passed away on Wednesday evening, April 27, 2016 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 28 days.
Will grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School. Following high school he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Will never married but had his dogs and many nieces and nephews that kept him busy over the years. He worked several jobs in the Shenandoah area, most recently he worked for Earl May Seed & Nursery. He enjoyed fishing and taking his dog for runs. He was also a history buff and enjoyed learning about his family’s history. His true love was his family.
Will was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents and great grandparents; seven of his siblings, Fanny Strange, Benny Wardlow, Melvin Wardlow, Verna Hoover, Alice Kalkas, Carol Terry and Gerald Squires.
Survivors include his sister, Cheryl Terry and her husband Kim of Shenandoah, Iowa; his brother, Chester Squires and his wife Sherry of Shenandoah, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Beverly Wardlow of Bedford, Iowa, Judy Wardlow of Havelock, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Walker, Wilma Joann Reiff - Wilma Joann Walker was born August 22, 1947 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of David Richard and Edith Isabelle (DeWitt) Reiff. She passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at her home in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 68 years and 7 months.
Wilma grew up and attended school in Salina, Kansas. She graduated from Salina High School in 1965. On February 8, 1968 she was united in marriage to Jerry Dale Walker in Omaha, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children, David, Michael and Suzette.
Wilma and Jerry lived in Omaha for a while and later moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Creston, Iowa before making Clarinda their home. Wilma worked as a secretary most of her life, she retired from the Page County Clerk of Court’s office. Wilma and Jerry also owned and operated DMS Sales and Service in Clarinda for many years. She was active with the Daughters of the American Revolution and with her church. She enjoyed gardening and quilting, but her true love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Edith Reiff and her sister, Geneva Frye.
Survivors include her three children, David Walker and his wife Anna of New Market, Iowa, Michael Walker and his wife Nikki of Bedford, Iowa, Suzette Reed of Clarinda, Iowa; six grandchildren, Cameron Walker, Cameo Walker, Chase Walker, Kennedy Reed, Kaleb Reed and Kelsea Walker; five step grandchildren, Derik Martin, Ciera Martin, Brennen Long, Darrin Long and Emma Leigh Dieguez; great grandson, Titus Lasley; a brother, Duaine Reiff and his wife Linda of Omaha, Nebraska; and a sister, Bonnie Reiff-Criag of San Diego, California; along with other relatives and many friends.

Wiederquist, Ernest Edwin "Ernie" - Ernie Wederquist, 80, of Shenandoah, IA, passed away on April 24, 2016 at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Malvern, IA, with Reverend Carl Phillips officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at the Malvern Cemetery. Open visitation, with no family present, will be on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern.

Ernest Edwin Wederquist, one of two children of Earnest George and Leafy May (Brott) Wederquist, was born on June 17, 1935 in Strahan, Iowa. His family moved to Malvern, Iowa where Ernie graduated from the Malvern High School in 1953. Ernie joined the United States Army on March 4, 1955 and served overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged on February 7, 1958. Ernie owned and operated Wederquist Variety Store in Malvern, until the business sold, then worked in maintenance at the Glenwood State School in Glenwood, Iowa until his retirement.

Ernie and Carolyn Jean Holden were married on June 16, 1955 and were blessed with three children, Kimberly, Michael, and Katrina. The couple later divorced.

Ernie and Brenda (Sandquist) Perdue were married on July 3, 1987. Ernie's family grew to include Brenda's son Chris Perdue and family.

Ernie was a charter member of the Mills County Saddle Club which began in 1976 and served as president for many years. He was always there to help get ready for the annual horse show and would stay until the very end of the day for cleanup afterwards. His love of horses made for many friends and his leadership skills helped many others. Ernie was a member of the Iowa and the American Quarter Horse Association from which he received a 30-year plaque. He belonged to many other horse organizations in Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. Showing and breeding horses was his passion which he shared with his wife Brenda.

Ernie enjoyed Iowa State basketball and was a faithful and avid Chicago Cubs fan. His greatest joy in life was watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Ernie was chosen as the East Mills "Fan of the Year" for 2009 - 2010. He also loved "people watching" while at Casey's or Hy-Vee and socializing with family and friends.

Due to declining health, the couple moved to live near Shenandoah, Iowa. Ernie passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 24, 2016, at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 7 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Dr. Gerald Miller; brother-in-law Glenn Buhr; nephew David Buhr; mother-in-law Victorene Holden (whom Ernie thought the world of); and former wife Jeanie (Holden) Staben.

Ernie is survived by his wife Brenda Wederquist of Shenandoah; children, Kim Miller of Omaha, NE, Mike (Carol) Wederquist of Emerson, IA, and Tina (Shawn) Zanders of Coon Rapids, IA; step son Chris (Jennifer) Perdue of St. Louis, MO; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 4 step grandchildren; sister Florence Buhr of Des Moines, IA; former exchange student Heikki Seppala from Finland; extended relatives; and a host of friends

Williams, Cassie - Death of Mrs Williams, Mrs Cassie I. Williams, wife of Isaac Williams, died at their home, 508 Harrison street, yesterday afternoon, July 4, at 4 o'clock. She had been sick for nearly two years with consumption, and was past 40 years of age. She leaves two children, a son 18 years old and a daughter 14, and her husband, of her immediate family. Mr Williams is employed in D.S. Lake's nursery; they have lived in Shenandoah for some time, and they own their home where they have been living. Some of her brothers and sisters are here from different parts, to attend the funeral which will be held at Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the home, conducted by Rev J.S. Jellison and wife. Young, Lavern - Lavern Young was born January 16, 1931 to Dorman and Trevia (Hardee) Young he entered into rest Saturday evening March 26 at Golden Rod Manor.

Lavern graduated from Clarinda High School Class of 1949. Went into the Air Force in 1950 and served 4 years. He was a farmer in Taylor County for many years. He so enjoyed his nephews and nieces when they came to visit. He would take them on the tractor in the fields, and enjoyed the outdoors with them.

Left to cherish his memory is brothers Jim Young, Alan Young and his wife Jenny; sisters Marie Rasner, Norma Pfeiffer and her husband John.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dorman and Trevia Young; a brother Carroll Young and his wife Lois; two sisters Addie Jennings and Virginia Boatner; brother-in-law, Raymond Rasner; Sister-in-law, Roberta Young; along with other relatives and friends. His memories will always be with us.
