Brockman, Kenneth - Kenneth Brockman, age 67, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Thursday, January 28, 2016 at his residence in rural Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2016 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at the funeral home with family greeting friends 10-11. A private family burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery at a later date.
Kenneth Lee Brockman was born July 15, 1948 in Clarinda, Iowa the son of Raymond Brockman and Della (Wagoner) Brockman. He grew up on the family farm near Clarinda and attended Lee Grove country school. He then attended and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1966. Following high school he attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda. Ken was also a member of the Army National Guard.
Ken and Marta were united in marriage February 4, 1978 in Red Oak, Iowa. They began their family with two children, Marcy and Nick and were blessed with their daughter, Katie in 1981. He had a special love for his daughter Katie and accepted Marcy and Nick as his own children.
Growing up on the farm instilled a love of farming for Ken. He farmed in Harlan Township with his family following high school. He was also involved in farming for the Meyer family from 1980-1998 where he farmed the land, and managed a hog operation and a cow/calf herd. In 1983 in addition to farming, Ken became a Correctional Officer at the Clarinda Correctional Facility and worked there for twenty seven years retiring in 2010. In his retirement years, one of his biggest passions was helping his nephews, Matt and John farm the family farm. He also loved trucking and was known to offer a helping hand to drive trucks for others whenever it was needed.
Ken was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda. He was a supporter of the Clarinda A’s and he and Marta opened their home and hosted A’s baseball players for twenty years. Ken enjoyed having coffee and visiting with friends and family daily. His friends and family were very important to him. In his retirement, he enjoyed doing “crop surveys” twice a day. He enjoyed watching westerns and listening to the “oldies”. He had a genuine love for his dogs who used to ride around with him in his pickup. He acquired the title of "candy man" when he worked at CCF as he always had an ample stash of peppermints in his possession. His granddaughter Emerson also always knew papa would have candy for her when she came to see him. He was also affectionately known by family and friends as "Bones, Kenny B, or just Kenny".
Ken was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009. Because there was no metastasis, surgery for this was a cure. Two years later he developed another cancerous tumor in his lung and he underwent successful radiation for this. His biggest challenge health wise came with his diagnosis of COPD following his lung cancer. He also had CHF and pulmonary hypertension. All three of those conditions necessitated him to be on 24 hour oxygen. The limitations of his condition significantly compromised his lifestyle, but he never complained. This was consistent with his gentle spirit and willingness to accept whatever life had in store for him.
Preceding Ken in death were his parents, Raymond and Della Brockman; parents-in-law, George and Wanda Moore; infant daughter, Ashley Anne Brockman; brother, Keith Brockman; brother- in-law, Chuck Aron; and nephew, James Aron.

On June 18, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Faye Augusta Headley at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Northboro, Iowa. Donnie and Faye were married in a double ceremony with Donnie's brother, Walter, and his wife Jeanne (Howland) Rolf. They have lived in the same farm home for 65 years, and Faye still resides there.
