Bartels, Clarence - Clarence Bartels, 85, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015, at Heritage House.
The son of Albert and Hattie (Puvogel) Bartels, he was born August 30, 1929, in Nodaway, Iowa in Page County. At the age of three Clarence lost his father. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School in Clarinda, until the eighth grade, when he was needed at home farming and helping to raise his sister, Dorothy.
On February 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Cavner at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clarinda. In February of 1954, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Kansas, Texas, and Washington. After his honorable discharge in 1955, they settled back in Clarinda. The couple was blessed with 3 daughters, Gretchen, Marcia and Marlene. For the next five years he farmed the same land he did as a child. In 1960, he began a career with United Building Center (UBC), and in 1968 accepted a position in their Atlantic office. Over the next 28 years he held the position of Warehouse Manager for Columbian Feeds. His working days didn't stop there though as he drove ambulance for the Atlantic area. He was also on the Atlantic Police Department Reserves, custodian at the Atlantic High School and Zion Lutheran Church, and funeral assistant at Roland Funeral Service and Hockenberry Family Care until his retirement at the age of 80.
Clarence was a man of family and faith. He looked forward to spending time with his family, and always wanted to know when the next family gathering would be. Elizabeth will treasure time spent on their deck overlooking the waterfall and pond that he worked so hard on and took much pride in. He and Elizabeth have fond memories of a bus trip to Washington D.C. where they toured the city. Clarence was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on the council and was a church elder. He loved being around people and rarely missed a day of conversation attending both morning and afternoon coffee.
When he wasn't working, he was an avid fisherman and not only took care of his large garden, but used the produce to can and bake. Some of his favorite fishing holes were the rock quarry and Lake Anita.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Gretchen (Dennis) Beer of Anita, Marcia (Paul) Gettler of Adair & Marlene (Ron) Wheatley of Adair; grandchildren, Brianne (Nathan) Jarrett of Des Moines, Shannon (Travis) Nordyke of Las Vegas, Nathan (Lindsay) Gettler of Fort Collins, CO, Brett (McKenzie) Gettler of Casey, Natalie Gettler of Omaha, Taylor (Katie Lents) Wheatley of Adair, Monica (Matt) Fagan of Adair, and Stacy (Travis) Huss of Adair; great-grandchildren, Payton, Beckham, and Ryker Jarrett, Avery Gettler, Carley, Belle and Joseph Fagan, and Jerzee and Brystol Huss; niece, Patty Maca; nephew, Ron (Lori) Wogan; and many other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Hattie Bartels; sisters, Dorothy Johnson and one in infancy; and nephew, Rick Maca.
Open visitation were from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at Roland's. Visitation with the family were from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9th at Roland Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating. Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Barton, Viola Marie Weedin - Viola Marie Barton, daughter of Clarence Renic and Lulu Elizabeth (Hedrick) Weedin, was born on March 10, 1933 in Atchison County, Missouri. She passed away on July 5, 2015 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was 82 years, 3 months and 25 days old.

Viola was born on a rural Atchison County, Missouri farm between Fairfax and Rockport. She grew up on that farm and attended Prairie Flower County School thru 7th grade. She attended Fairfax Public Schools thru graduation from Fairfax High School in 1951. Viola worked at Fairfax High School's administration office performing clerical duties and taking care of all payroll for the school district until her marriage to Blaine Barton on February 2, 1960 at the Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph, Missouri and relocated to Shenandoah in
1960.

Viola was all about family. She enjoyed going to Colorado in the summer and staying at her brothers cabin near Estes Park. She and Blaine, and later along with their kids, would go sight seeing, hiking up around the Bear Lake area and around the cabin along the Thompson River.

Viola especially enjoyed working at George Jay Drug Store for 36 years. She looked forward to meeting and talking to people as they shopped the store. She became an icon, always wearing a smile.

Viola's other hobbies and interests included singing, playing piano, she loved reading, word search puzzles, cooking for family and especially watching over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She modeled for a Maryville clothing store, sang in the church choir, family would surround the piano and join together as she made the keys come alive. Viola also taught Sunday School and was Den Mother for Boy Scouts.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Lulu Weedin, siblings; Lois Mae Dill, Wayne Weedin, Margaret Rechtenback, Kathryn White, Willis Weedin and Kenneth Weedin.

Viola is survived by her husband of 55 years, Blaine Barton, of Shenandoah; two children, Chris Barton and wife Lori and Cynthia Webster and significant other Jerry Gruber, all of Shenandoah; four grandchildren, Ashley Morelock and husband Dave, Tucker Webster, Vanessa Webster and Lauryn Webster, all of Shenandoah; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Ethan Morelock, both of Shenandoah; brother, Phillip Weedin and wife Mary of Columbia, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Viola was a wonderful mother, wife, companion; an inspiration and never giving up.

Basaker, Merrill Jacob - Merrill Jacob Basaker, the son of Jacob Earl Basaker and Ila Alice (Thompson) Basaker, was born at Blanchard, IA on February 17, 1927.   At the age of four Merrill moved with his family from Blanchard to a farm near Elmo, MO where they lived and farmed for five years.  During the Depression his family moved to California for a year and then returned to Blanchard. Prior to high school graduation, Merrill was called into service during World War II.  He was inducted into the Army at Fort Leavenworth, KS on May 8, 1945.  He served during the Occupation of Japan as a Clerk Typist, preparing discharge papers for soldiers being sent home and as a driver for his Commanding Officer.  After being Honorably Discharged home December 21, 1946, Merrill completed his education and graduated from Blanchard Memorial School the following spring.

During his life time Merrill had various occupations.  He worked with his father as a house painter and Custodian for Blanchard Memorial School, cared for yards for people in Blanchard, worked as a field hand for numerous farmers in the Blanchard area and surrounding communities and was lastly employed by Mount Arbor Nursery, Shenandoah, IA.

Merrill was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88.  He was an excellent cook, enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, and loved listening to all types of music.  He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Merrill was a devoted son and brother, providing loving care and oversight for sisters Eva McMahon and Lottie Argabright in their later years.  He remained in the family home in Blanchard until heart surgery in 2008 required that he relocate to Forest Park Apartments in Shenandoah.  As a result of health issues Merrill entered Elm Heights Care Center in 2011, where he passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the age of 88.  The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and excellent care he received at Elm Heights.

Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters:  Alfreda Thomas, Eva McMahon, Waunita Nuckolls and Lottie Argabright as well as an infant brother, Jimmy Basaker.  Survivors include nieces:  Carolyn Polsley and husband Jim, Branson, MO; Dale Lynne Ogden and husband, Glenn, Summerfield, NC; Diane Nuckolls, Summerfield, NC; and Denise Davis, Oregon, WI; nephews:  Fred Argabright and wife Lynette, Stockton, MO and Danny Nuckolls, Westboro, MO; two gr eat-nieces and three great-nephews and other relatives and friends.

Burial will be in the Blanchard Cemetery at Blanchard, Iowa.

Bowen, June Ra - car accident Highway 71 north of Clarinda - June Ra Bowen, 23, of Clarinda was killed almost instantly suffering a fractured skull and other serious fractures. Clark, Helen Squier Rose - Mrs Helen Clark, one of the early pioneers, passed away at her home near New Market, Iowa, after an illness of about a week, after living in this locality for about fifty years.

Helen Squier, daughter of Andrew Jackson and Joanna Squier, was born near Cleveland, O., Feb 25, 1844, and departed this life Feb 14, 1932, aged 87 years, 11 months and 19 days. At the age of 14 she came with her parents to Iowa in 1857, stopping in Decatur county until the following spring when they came to Page county where she resided until her marriage to W.H. Rose in May, 1862. At the outbreak of the Civil war her husband volunteered and became a member of Co F 29th Iowa Inf., and died Apr 27, 1863, at Helena, Ark.

She was again united in marriage to G.W. Clark on May 20, 1864. To this union five children were born, one daughter, Edna, and son Charles M., having preceded her. Her husband, G.W. Clark, passed away March 16, 1914.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs Addie Wood, King City, Mo., Mrs Delia Foster, Coal Spring, S. Dak., Mrs Hattie King, New Market, Ia., two grandsons, five granddaughters and one great-greanddaughter, besides one sister, Mrs Ada Cunning, Pocatella, Ida., one brother, L.E. Squier, Clarinda, Ia., and nieces and nephews. The daughter, Mrs R.L. Foster, was unable to come.

She was loved and respected by all who knew her, and leaves a large circle of friends. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the home in New Market, Dr A.B. Thutt of the Presbyterian church in Clarinda being in charge. Burial was in Old Memory cemetery. A number of relatives from Nebraska City were in attendance at the funeral. Crawford, Dwight - Dwight Crawford was born August 28, 1945 in Shenandoah, IA, the son of Ella Mae Crawford. Dwight went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2015 at the Veteran's Medical Center in Omaha, NE at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 9 days.

Dwight grew up in Shenandoah, and after High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1964 - 1967 and assigned to the U.S. Army 168th Engineers Battalion. In 1965 his military assignment took him to Viet Nam where he experienced extensive combat, Agent Orange exposure and also asked to live in a fox hole for 12+ months while protecting the 168th Engineers Base Camp environmental water supply. Without any shelter, Agent Orange was sprayed on him, as well as all of the foliage. In 1967 Sergeant E-6 Dwight Crawford was reassigned state side, and stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, near Washington D.C., where he then trained U.S. Army soldiers in preparation for their assignments in Viet Nam until his Honorary Discharge in 1967. In 1968 Dwight was united in marriage to Barbara Priest, who was living in the Washington D.C. area as a American Airlines Flight Attendant. To this union two sons were born: Mark Crawford and Matthew Crawford.

Pursing an Environmental Science Degree at Northern Virginia University was a passion for Dwight and a choice career that led him to a position as a Water Pollution Bacteriological Laboratory Technician in Fairfax County Virginia. In 1972 Dwight accepted a position with the City of Des Moines, IA as a Laboratory Chemist Water Quality Control. In 1973 Dwight was recruited by Central Technical Community College as a Professor of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences in Hastings, NE, and developed the new academic program for water quality control. In 1976 he was elected by State of Nebraska Governor Exon to the office of Director Little Blue Natural Resources District - Sub District 2. In 1979 Dwight was nominated by the CTCC College President, and received the Outstanding Young Man of America Award.

In 1983 Dwight was recruited by Henningson, Durham and Richardson in Omaha, NE, as a Water Quality Engineer and traveled throughout the USA designing water quality laboratories and facility startups, as well as training all personnel. In 1985 HDR was bought out by a company in France and his position was eliminated. As the entrepreneur that he was, in 1986 Dwight started his own business called Better Glass Service of Omaha serving the Metropolitan community with glass replacement, construction and specializing in shopping centers. Dwight and Barb were a team in business and although he started his business in his garage, expansion of the business success changed quickly to an Omaha Industrial area with over 5,000 accounts. In 1989 Dwight had an opportunity to sell the business and then Dwight and Barb, again in business together, purchased Lakewood Shores Marina on 19 acres which included a restaurant and cabins. This business was sold in 1991 and included a move back to the Omaha area with Dwight's retirement due to his declining health.

With retirement it was an opportunity for Dwight to spend more time with his family, and especially his sons Mark and Matt, that were truly the world to him with Barb. He has also enjoyed being involved with the American Legion and his many military friends. Because he always needed to keep busy, he loved fishing, refinishing furniture, and numerous other projects. Most importantly, Dwight always found time to help someone else, and became a mentor to others, encouraging others to succeed. Dwight's life was not only courageous in Viet Nam, but also courageous throughout the years with pursing his dreams, and his passions, with his family and his career.
Dwight and Barb experienced many miracles during their marriage, and have always had faith in the Lord, which brought Dwight closer to understanding God's will in his life and his love for the Lord.

Survivors include his wife Barbara of 47 years of marriage, and sons Mark Crawford of Shenandoah and Matthew Crawford, Jennifer Crawford, grandson Evan Inserra and granddaughter Bryn Inserra of Greencastle, PA, Dwight's mother Ella Mae Crawford of Shenandoah, nephew Patrick Rice, Johnston, IA; Niece Michelle Miller, Altoona, IA along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the First Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah with Pastor Roy Nelson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. Demanett, Arthur Dow - Arthur Dow Demanett, son of Arthur Lanzo and Virgia Mae (Begnoche) Demanett, was born on November 11, 1932 in rural Cloud County, Kansas, near Concordia. He passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, 9 days.

His early life was spent growing up in rural Cloud County, Kansas where he attended a one room schoolhouse. The family later moved to a farm near Yorktown, Iowa, where he attended country school through the eighth grade. He continued his education, attending high school in Clarinda, Iowa, graduating from Clarinda High School with the Class of 1950.

Following high school Arthur continued to farm, working as farmhand, which he had done since his childhood. On January 21, 1953, Arthur was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He proudly served his country as a Corporal until receiving his Honorable Discharge on October 28, 1954.

On September 10, 1955, Arthur was united in marriage to Evelyn Joan Ballain in Shenandoah, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Kevin, Timothy, David and Julia. They made their home in Shenandoah. They were married 32 years prior to divorcing. Following his return from the war, Arthur embarked on a long career with the Henry Field Seed and Nursery Co. in Shenandoah.

In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed woodworking, furniture refinishing, gardening, taking in the beauty of the great outdoors and attending his children's events. Above all, Arthur's greatest joy were his children and grandchildren. He was always full of happiness and peace. He was a member of the Shenandoah First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and also served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader.

Preceding Arthur in death were his parents; three sisters, Imogene Joyce Demanett, Marlene Joy Lewellen and Geraldine Mae Scott. He is survived by his four children, Kevin Dow Demanett and wife Kathy of Omaha, NE, Timothy Lynn Demanett of Des Moines, IA, David Paul Demanett and wife Jane of Johnston, IA, and Julia Annette Demanett and fiancé Daniel Anderson of Shenandoah, IA; five grandchildren, Stefanie Rene Barrett and husband Marty of Omaha, NE, Kristin Nicole Demanett of Chicago, IL, Whitney Joan Demanett of Fairmont, NE, Stephen Jon Demanett and Brenton Tyler Demanett, both of Omaha, NE; eight great grandchildren, Maggie, Charlie, Henry, Trenton, Madison, Warren, Isaiah and Skylan; four siblings, Cleo Dee Demanett and wife Diane of Gold Canyon, AZ, Larry Lee Demanett and wife Gladys of Randolph, IA, Shirley Jean Stanley and husband Richard of Shenandoah, IA, and Raymond Demanett and wife Jeannette of Shenandoah, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Dorl, Terry Wayne - Terry Wayne Dorl, son of Wilson Charles and Elmeta Marie Jean (Yazel) Dorl was born on July 3, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri. Terry entered into eternal peace on August 21, 2015 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 56.

Terry grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. He worked at Shenandoah Sanitation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a longstanding member of the Visions Motorcycle Club in Kansas City.

Preceding Terry in death were his parents; brother, Charles; and sister, Carolyn Owen. Those left to cherish his memory include his two sisters, Esther Swigert and husband William and Myrna Adair; brother, John Dorl and wife Vickie; sister-in-law, Shirley Dorl; brother-in-law, Paul Owen; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

There will be a memorial service held at a later date, held by the Visions Motorcycle Club of Kansas City, MO.

Ellison, Doris Ruth - The home of Mr and Mrs Lee Ellison living between Yorktown and Coin has been saddened by the loss of their baby, Doris Ruth, the past week. The daughter had been in the home only 23 days before her departure. Services were held at the OakGrove Cemetery,with Rev Hall of the Christian church presiding.

Ellison, Lee A. - Lee A. Ellison of Burlington Junction, who would have been 76 years of age tomorrow, died at 3:30 am today at the St Francis hospital, where he had been a patient for four days. He had been ill for a long time. Funeral arrangements have not been made. The body is at the Campbell funeral home.

Farmer, Sherrel Linn Hardy - Sherrel Farmer, age 61, of Coin, Iowa, entered into peace Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Westridge Care & Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held Monday, August 24, 2015 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa.

Sherrel Linn Farmer, the youngest of thirteen children of Lelia Ione (Fletcher) Hardy and Corwin Arthur Hardy, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on August 12, 1954. She grew up in the Tabor, Iowa area and attended school at Fremont Mills. Sherrel married Joe Farmer July 5, 1992.

Sherrel worked at Mount Arbor Nursery and Henry Field Nursery for many years. She worked at Lewis Cleaners until her husband became ill. She then stayed home and took care of her husband, Joe Farmer until her health declined also.

Sherrel was preceded in death by her parents, Lelia and Corwin Hardy; brother, Leonard Hardy; sister, Stella Blackburn-Hamilton; sister, Lois Clark; grandson, Travis Hoyt.

Fulk, John Lewis "JL" - John Lewis “JL” Fulk passed away on August 13, 2015, peacefully at Westridge Rehab & Care Center. He was born on December 29, 1924 in Clarinda, Iowa, son of Harrel Fulk and Gladys (Annan) Fulk. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1942. John married Leona Bloomfield on January 10, 1946. They were blessed with 69 happy years of marriage and a son.
JL served in WWII with the Army Air Corps as a surgical technician. He was a farmer in East River, operated Skelly Gas Station in Clarinda in 1959. He retired as a supervisor at Wilson Foods in 1988. He was a 50-year Mason with Nodaway Lodge #140 AF&AM.
He enjoyed country music, dancing, taking trips to Branson, hunting, and spending time with friends for coffee.
JL was survived in death by his wife, Leona; son, Ron (Gretchen); and brother, Jimmy.
In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind his granddaughter Melissa Fulk, great granddaughter Danni Champion and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gibson, Russell Harlen - Russell Harlen Gibson was born February 25, 1953 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Thomas Edward and Charlotte May (Vaughn) Gibson. He passed away on Sunday morning, June 28, 2015 at his home near Nyman, Iowa at the age of 62 years, 4 months and 3 days.
Russ grew up in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School. He worked for over 40 years for Barnes Painting in Red Oak and took great pride in his work. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. In his younger years he enjoyed motorcycles, more recently he enjoyed his couch and heat pad. He was a hard worker, non-judgmental and had great rapport with people. His true love was his family and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rachel and Gene Vaughn and Clara and Hayes Gibson; his grandson, Isaac Gibson; and his nephew, Colton Gorby.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Gibson of Nyman, Iowa; his parents, Ed and Charlotte Gibson of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Cynthia Hale and her husband Mike of Kansas City, Missouri, Adam Gibson of Essex, Iowa; step children, Nathan DeJongh of Essex, Iowa, Heidi DeJongh of Essex, Iowa; grandchildren, Isabella, Emma and Ethan Hale of Kansas City, Missouri and Brandon Gibson of Shenandoah, Iowa; step grandson, Michael Johnson of Essex, Iowa; a brother, Randall Gibson of Red Oak, Iowa; a sister, Brenda Dickerson of Shenandoah, Iowa; a niece, Alix Gorby of Shenandoah, Iowa; mother-in-law, Laura Schmidt of Castle Pines, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Linda Alston and her husband Gil of Orland, California, Cathy Buss and her husband Dan of Discovery Bay, California, Jan Fournier and Tom Kratville of Castle Pines, Colorado, Tracy Aguilera and her husband Luke of Daly City, California; along with many other relatives and friends.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Red Oak, Iowa. Gingery, Lee Emerson - Lee Emerson Gingery, the son of Lewis Francis Gingery and Grace Haines Gingery, was born at Rushville, Missouri on October 17, 1922 and entered into rest on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Fair Oaks Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 92.

Lee spent his early years in Rushville, Missouri. He served his country with the United States Army Air Corps, where he survived 26 combat missions as a B17 crew member from 1943-1945. He entered the University of Missouri School of Journalism and graduated in 1951. On August 30, 1947 he was united in marriage to Virginia Lee Jones at St. Joseph, Missouri. After their marriage they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, moving to Shenandoah in 1960.

Lee worked from 1947-1959 for Modern Handcraft in Kansas City, moving to Shenandoah where he worked for Henry Field Seed & Nursery Company from 1960-1983.

Lee was a former member of Gashland Community Church and presently a member of the Shenandoah Presbyterian Church, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lee served two terms on the Shenandoah City Council, and was the driving force in the Shenandoah Walk of Fame; he was also a member of the 351st Bomber Group, the Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce and loved to write. The three books that he authored were...... Nicknames, Wars and Corporate Games; A Cameo For Jean; and Phantom of The Frog Hop.

Lee was preceded in death by his father and mother L.F. Gingery and Grace Haines Gingery, brother Loudon Gingery and a sister Letha Fern Watmore.

Survivors include his beloved wife Virginia of Shenandoah; daughter, Lynn Gingery Binegar and husband Dave of Davenport, IA., son, Scott Gingery and wife Janet of Yorktown, VA.; daughter Laura Stephens of Council Bluffs, IA; granddaughters, Lisa (Chris) Caddle, Erika Binegar, Kelsey Binegar, Megan Gingery; nephews David Gingery, Louis Watmore, Donald Watmore; niece Barbara Watmore other relatives and a host of friends

Hale, Pranda Sue Fike - Pranda Sue Hale, daughter of Floyd Fike, Sr., and Thelma (Homan) Fike, was born on January 14, 1948 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2015, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 67 years, 6 months, 13 days.

Her early life was spent growing up in the Shenandoah and and Essex, Iowa area where she attended both the Shenandoah and Essex Community Schools. Pranda worked at Mount Arbor Nurseries for many years.

On May 23, 1968, Pranda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ottis Lee Hale, Sr. in Omaha, Nebraska. Following their marriage they made their home in Essex. To this union four children were born: Zaccheus, Kathy, Ottis, Jr. and Jessica.

In her spare time, Pranda enjoyed bowling, shopping and going to auctions. She loved watching volleyball and basketball. She especially loved watching football, and her favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Preceding Pranda in death were her parents; two sisters, Lee Ellen Allumbaugh and Patricia Carlson. Survivors include her husband of over 47 years, Ottis Lee Hale, Sr. of Essex, IA; four children, Zaccheus Hale of California, Kathy Hale of Red Oak, IA, Ottis Hale, Jr. and wife Sherrie of Essex, IA and Jessica Hale of Red Oak, IA; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Jo Smith and husband Verlin of Essex, IA; brother, Alvin Fike and wife Sandra of Essex, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Hanson, Dale Edward - Dale Hanson, age 88, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Westridge Care & Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Dale Edward Hanson was born on the family farm in Nodaway Township, Taylor County, Iowa on August 16, 1926. He was the fifth of five children of Maurice Henning Hanson and Lillian Charlotte (Christell) Hanson. Dale attended Fairview School through the eighth grade and graduated from Villisca High School in 1944. He participated in track, basketball and was a charter member of the Reno Smith FFA Chapter.

Dale was drafted into the United States Army in January 1945 serving in the Philippines and was an MP as part of the occupation force in Japan, receiving an honorable discharge in August 1946.

On February 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Marshall of Bedford, Iowa in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After the wedding Dale and Mary moved to the farm house where he was born. Two sons were born to this union, James Dale and Edward Lee.

Dale was a life long farmer operating a diversified crop and livestock operation following the latest technology and farming practices. He had many other interests he enjoyed. Dale was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, and pitch player. He was a member of the New Market American Legion Post 300, a member of the Farm Bureau, Taylor County Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Pork Producers, salesman for Garst Seed Company for thirty years, and eighteen year leader of the Dallas Boys 4-H Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henning and Lillian Hanson; brothers, Maurice and Lorence and sisters, Dorothy Brummett and Arlene Orme.

Dale is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Mary Etta Hanson of Clarinda, Iowa; sons, James of New Market, Iowa and Edward of Clarinda, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Frank Marshall and wife Shana of Carson City, Nevada, and David Marshall of Fredericksburg, Virginia; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends.

Harms, Eleanor Irene Wright - Eleanor Irene Harms, daughter of Ray and Flava (Seybert) Wright, was born November 24, 1927 in Dunbar, Nebraska. Eleanor passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

Eleanor spent her early years on the farm south of Dunbar, Nebraska. She graduated from Dunbar High School with the class of 1945. She enjoyed playing volleyball in high school.

Eleanor was united in marriage to Glen E. Harms on June 14, 1949 in Dunbar, Nebraska. Their married years were spent in Shenandoah. The last four years of her life were spent at Red Oak Rehab Center in Red Oak, Iowa.

Her working life (over 25 years) were spent at Kitchen Klatter magazine. In her early life she was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Dunbar, Nebraska. As an adult she attended the Southern Baptist Church and later she and Glen attended and were baptized at the Methodist Church in Sidney, Iowa.

Most of her time was spent caring for her family and following her children's and grandchildren's activities. In her spare time she enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, gardening, doing puzzles and going with friends to garage sales. She also spent significant time caring for neighbors' needs when she was able to do so. She loved to play practical jokes on those she loved. She had a witty sense of humor and loved to laugh.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Glen E. Harms; her parents Ray and Flava Wright; and brother, Richard Wright.

Trent Lee Hayden was born October 22, 1991 at Sikeston, Missouri. He is the son of Mary Hayden and Tracy Jones. He grew up in the East Prairie, Missouri area until he was 15. He was a 2008 graduate of Clarinda High School.

Trent was a good worker and had several jobs through the years with the most recent working for Hull Trailer Production as a finisher of trailers.

Trent touched life and everything in it. He loved both of his living sons and his “Lil Monkey” that he holds in heaven today. When you think of Trent think of the love he had in his heart, the compassion he felt for everyone.

Preceding Trent in death were his grandparents, Charles and Alice Lorraine Hayden and infant son, “Lil Monkey”.

Heard, Margaret Lou Kirk - Margaret Lou Heard, age 81, formerly of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 13, 2015, at the Veterans Memorial Chapel Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa, with Pastor Ted Brown II officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Visitation were held one hour prior to the funeral service at the chapel on Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota.

Margaret Lou Heard was born to Willie Bernice and Guy Kirk on March 27, 1934. She and her nine brothers and two sisters grew up on various farms in Missouri and she attended country school graduating the 8th grade. Margaret had the intelligence and desire to proceed to high school however her father refused to send her. Years later when he complained about her working in a cleaners, she would remind him that she had to do such hard work because he refused to let her further her education. Margaret was also an accomplished seamstress having created many wedding dresses in the ‘70s.
Margaret married Coy Heard on December 19, 1959, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. They made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Cindy and Linda. In 1967, the family moved to Yankton, South Dakota. Margaret was a wonderful wife, momma and friend. She nursed her husband through his many illnesses before his death on November 28, 1977. Margaret and Peter Knoll shared a special relationship for almost 20 years before his passing on September 22, 1999. Margaret enjoyed sewing, watching soap operas and dancing. She was a 40+ year breast cancer survivor. The light of Margaret’s life was her two grandchildren and her daughter. For the last 2½ years, Margaret made her home in the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. Her family would visit often and she was the envy of all the residence when she’d get kisses and hugs from her young grandson. Margaret provided grandma care for her granddaughter when she was young and became her best friend and confidant. She was also her daughter’s touch-stone, always ready with a sympathetic ear and shoulder to lean on. We are grateful for her long life and rejoice that she no longer will be in pain from old age but will have everlasting life and a restored body with Our Lord.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brian Stucky of Tea, South Dakota; beloved grandchildren, Chantelle and Brett Stucky, special nieces and nephews, Linda and Wade Ash of Shenandoah, Iowa; Janelle King of Washington; Jason Ash of South Dakota; and the Knoll family. Darlene was born November 12, 1929, in Carbon, Iowa, to Cloyd B. Smith and Mary Ellen (Jones) Smith. She grew up in the Carbon/Corning area graduating from Corning High School in 1947 with a teaching certificate. She taught school in Quincy, Iowa for two years. She then attended summer school in Shenandoah and was able to teach three more years. Darlene then worked as a cook/custodian for the Villisca School District and the Nodaway School. Darlene was united in marriage to May 17, 1952 to Robert Hollis Hess. They were blessed with three children, Elaine Diane, Gale Lynn, and Jeffrey Robert.
Darlene was postmaster at Nodaway Post Office for many years, retiring January 3, 1996. She was a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church, Methodist Church women, and American Legion Auxiliary for 51 years. She enjoyed her coffee group of classmates from the Nodaway school, working on family history with her daughter, Elaine, camping, fishing, and reading. Darlene was also an avid card player and enjoyed playing cards and games with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, especially around Christmas time when she made tea rings and spritz cookies. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Preceding Darlene in death were her husband, Robert H. Hess; her parents, Cloyd “Kelly” and Mary Ellen Smith; sister, Geraldine McMorran and husband Dive McMorran; in-laws, Wilbur and Lucille Hess; great-grandson, Brody Pulliam.

Kelly Hook departed this world unexpectedly on August 17th, 2015.
Kevin Kelly Hook was born August 25, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Lynn Hook and Carol (Scott) Hook. He was a graduate of Clarinda High School.
Kelly had worked for the Ice House Restaurant in Clarinda for 35 years starting when he was in high school. Two years ago he relocated to Kansas City to be near his mother and worked for Jack Stack Barbecue Restaurant in Martin City, Missouri. He loved his coworkers and his work as a grill cook at both restaurants.
He is survived by his mother Carol (Hook) Smith and stepfather Dennis Smith of Leawood, Kansas, his brother Randy and wife Michele Hook of Adel, and his grandmother Betty Scott of Clarinda. He also is survived by three nephews and four grand-nephews in Ankeny, Davenport and Des Moines, Iowa along with uncles and aunts and numerous cousins.
Kelly was preceded in death by his father Lynn Hook of Clarinda, grandfather Bob Scott of Adel, Iowa, and grandparents Byard and Beulah Hook of Hawleyville, Iowa.

Hughes, Harold O. - CHJ 3-14-1966 Harold O. Hughes, 76, died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital [Clarinda, Iowa] March 13 following a brief illness which developed into pneumonia.

Funeral service will be from the Walker Funeral Home at 10:30 am Tuesday with the Rev H. LaVern Kinzel of the first Christian Church officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Church cemetery, Dongola, Ill., following the service there.

Mr and Mrs Hughes came to Clarinda in 1932 and operated the Hughes Oil Co until 1961.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, a sister, Mrs Warner (Ruby) Jones, three brothers, Ralph of Clarinda, Raymond of Indianola and Delbert of Champaign, Ill; a niece, Mrs Don (Sandra) Johnson, Austin, Minn., and two nephews, Roger R. Hughes, North Hollywood, Calif., and Robert J.E. Hughes, Dallas, Tex. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Mrs Retta Evelyn Hughes, 88 of Clarinda died Sunday afternoon at Bethesda Care Center [Clarinda, Iowa] where she had been admitted on Thursday.

She had been in the hospital since the first of the year and prior to that she had been in her own apartment.

She was born Aug 25, 1893, at Dongola, Ill., the daughter of Alfred and Sarah Miles Keller.

On Jan 11, 1912 she was married to Harold O. Hughes who preceded her in death in 1966.

Mr and Mrs Hughes came to Clarinda from Dongola in 1932. They operated the Texaco station at the east edge of town until retirement.

Mrs Hughes was a member of the First Christian Church and belonged to the O.E.S. for over 60 years. Local relatives are a cousin and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Warner Jones and Mr and Mrs Ralph Hughes of Clarinda.

Hunziker, Donald E. - Donald E. Hunziker, ager 79, of Arlington, Texas passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 in Texas. Irvin, Larry Leon - May 3, 1937 - Aug 17, 2015 - Larry Leon Irvin, 78, of Red Oak, Iowa and formerly of Shenandoah, passed away on Monday morning, August 17, 2015 at The Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak, where he had been a resident.

Jones, Sarah Elizabeth - Mrs H. Hughes' Mother Dies Here - Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Jones, 79, mother of Mrs Harold Hughes,with whom she had made her home the past two years, died here Sunday afternoon. She had fallen two weeks ago, fracturing a hip, and had gradually grown weaker. Funeral services will be held at Dongola, Ill., Wednesday afternoon. Burial is to be in Friendship cemetery in Dongola.

Besides her daughter, four sons survive. They are Alva Keller of Dixon, Ill, Dan Keller, Thomas Keller, and Calvin Keller, all of Dongola.

Kingsolver, Keith Wendell - Keith Wendell Kingsolver, son of Everett Wendell and Mildred Alice (Bateman) Kingsolver, was born August 2, 1944 in Hamburg, Iowa. He passed away September 6, 2015 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was 71 years old.

Keith grew up on the family farm northwest of Farragut, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Farragut High School with the class of 1962.

In 1964 he married Gloria Jean Gardner and moved to a farm just north of where he grew up. On July 23, 1983 he married Mary Louise Guthrie in Sidney, Iowa.

Keith was a farmer but he also worked as a bus driver and worked at Fremont Co. Coop and Walmart. He was on the Farm Bureau Board, Prairie Township Council and a member of Sidney United Methodist Church which is now United Faith Church. He enjoyed farming, woodworking and reading Western novels.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Mildred Kingsolver, sister Wanda Kingsolver Hintz and grandson Mathew Lee Stephen.

Keith is survived by his wife Mary Kingsolver of rural Farragut, son Douglas Kingsolver and wife Beverly of Tabor, Iowa, son Steven Kingsolver of Corning, Iowa, daughter Jodi Stephen and husband Christopher of Glenwood, Iowa and son Benjamin Kingsolver and wife Renee of Farragut, Iowa, , grandchildren Bobby, Brian, Kate, Michael, Philip, Jacob, Payton, Lillian, Benjamin, "JR", Caden and Emma, great-grandchildren Jeffrey and Ellie, nephews, other family and friends.

Burial will be in the Farragut Cemetery.

Kiper, Lois Ecklof - Lois Kiper passed away on Sunday August 16, 2015 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 86. Aug 2, 1929 - Aug 19, 2015

Lois M. Kiper the daughter of Paul Luther Lanee' and Lillie Cecilia Falk Ecklof was born on August 2, 1929, at home near Coburg, Iowa. Lois lived her early life on her grandfathers farm for her first eighteen years. She attended and graduated from Essex High School in 1945. She was married to Lysle M. Kiper to this union were Connie, Susie, Cheryl and Greg. Lois passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 86. Some of Lois interest were, antiques, collecting Fenton glassware, Carnival glassware, cooking, canning and baking.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Lysle, daughter Connie Gomel, son Greg Kiper; grandchildren, Timothy Gomel, Trevor McIntyre and David Kiper; siblings, Elmer Falk, Lillian Shumard, Louise Lassen, Marvin Falk, Kenneth Falk, Ruth Falk as an infant, and Ernest Falk.
Survivors include, her daughters, Cheryl McIntyre, and Susie Erhart; siblings, Dorothy Hall and Junior Falk; grandchildren, Michelle Kirby-Keeler, Tiffani Bredberg, Jason, Jeremy and Justin Shadel, Shannon Duchame, and Brandon Gomel; great grandchildren, Dani Stogdill, Jordan Mick, Kaitlyn Kirby, Haylee Walters-Gomel and Rayder Lee Gomel; other relatives and friends.

Lane, Ikie Morss Davison - Ikie Davison Lane was born on Feb. 20, 1931 and died Aug. 19, 2015. She was born to Robert and Freda Morss at Payne with one sister, Robbie Jean Davison, Clarinda.
In 1942 she moved to a farm east of Braddyville. She graduated from Braddyville High School in 1948 and in 1951 she married Lyle Davison and had 4 children. Born to them was Robin Ripley of College Springs, Ed Davison of Grain Valley, Mo., Skip Davison of New Market and Brad Davison of Winchester, Kan.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1974. In 1997 she married Carrol Lane and lived in Riverside, Calif. until he retired in 2003 then returned to Shenandoah.
She leaves 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. No services were held.

Lorimor, Marie Clara Bertram - Marie Clara (Bertram) Lorimor, 88, of Shenandoah and formerly of rural Farragut, passed away on Thursday morning, July 30, 2015 in Sidney, Iowa at the Ambassador Sidney. Burial will be in the Farragut Cemetery. Memorials in Marie's name are being directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Trinity Lutheran Church for Outreach.

Marie was preceded by her husband, Bert Lorimor. Survivors include her three children, Rebecca Lorimor of Shenandoah, Steve Lorimor and his wife Kathy and Brent Lorimor and his wife Kathleen, all of Farragut; other relatives and many friends.

Marie Clara Lorimor, daughter of Frederick and Clara (Prange) Bertram was born November 28, 1926 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Sidney Ambassador in Sidney, Iowa.

The youngest of 8 children, Marie was born and raised in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the class of 1944.

After working as a teller at Security Trust and Savings Bank for several years out of high school, Marie was united in marriage to Bert Gibson Lorimor on September 7, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Farragut, Iowa - a union that would last 52 years until Bert's passing in 1999. They lived and raised their family on a farm north of Farragut until retiring to Shenandoah in 1990.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah - teaching Sunday School, singing in the Church choir, and being very active in LWML and Altar Guild. She was a past 4-H leader, served on the Fremont County Youth Committee many years and was always a strong supporter of 4-H, as well as a member of the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Athenaeum Study Club, and neighborhood social clubs O.N.O. and None Such. Marie also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Food Pantry. She loved the outdoors, flower gardening, sewing, handwork, and fishing in Minnesota. But most of all, Marie loved God, her Church, and family.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Bert Lorimor, her parents, brothers Raymond, Harold, and Reuben Bertram and sisters Selma Sunderman, Alma Bertram, Edna Norton, and Lillian Meyer.

Marie is survived by her children Steve Lorimor and wife Kathleen E. of Farragut, Iowa, Rebecca Lorimor of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Brent Lorimor and wife Kathleen M. of Farragut, Iowa, grandchildren Amanda Moore and husband Trent of Randolph, Iowa, Jessica Carter and husband Ben of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Brady Lorimor of Farragut, Iowa, great-grandchildren Colton and Malea Moore of Randolph, Iowa, sister-in-law Shirley Schaaf and husband Stanley of Randolph, Iowa, many, many nieces and nephews, many friends, very special caregivers Dixie Major and Clara Housh, and all the wonderful aides, nurses and staff of the Ambassador Care Center in Sidney, Iowa.

Manchester, Marjorie Elnora Sickler - Marjorie Elinora Manchester, the daughter of Marion and Elizabeth Jane (Farrington) Sickler, was born on April 3, 1921 in Glenwood, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Marjorie lived a short time near Wray, Colorado and Sandersen, Florida where she started school. After coming back to Iowa the family lived a short time in Griswold, Iowa, before settling in Shenandoah where she lived the remainder of her life.

Marjorie was baptized in the First Christian Church in September 1931.
On April 16, 1938, Marjorie was united in marriage with Roy Dillon Manchester in Rock Port, Missouri. To this union five sons and one daughter were born.
Marjorie had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and BPW. For a number of years she was active in the Jaycee-ettes.

Marjorie had been employed at the Spurgeons store and Montgomery Wards for some time previous to starting at the Ladies Apparel Shop where she continued for almost 20 years before her retirement in December 1989.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dillon in 1978, her parents, her brothers; Willard Farrington, Robert E. Sickler, and Marion "Leo" Sickler, her sisters Pauline (Mel) Eyberg and Betty (Wilbur) White.

Maxwell, Edwin A. - Ed Maxwell, age 62, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Friday, August 28, 2015 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating.

Edwin A. Maxwell was born on October 15, 1952, in Clarinda, Iowa, a son of Albert J. and Ella Florence (Ryan) Maxwell. He spent his childhood in Clarinda attending Clarinda schools.

Ed worked on cable construction for many years. With that job he traveled from coast to coast. For the past few years he has worked at Michael Foods in Lenox, Iowa.

Ed loved traveling, seeing the world. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nephew Nathan whom he thought of as a son. Ed had no children. He also enjoyed being outside sitting on the front porch, playing jokes and pranks on people and laughing.

Ed passed away Friday, August 28th at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Florence Maxwell; his brothers, Joe Maxwell, Randy Maxwell, Tom Maxwell and infant brother Eddie J.

Surviving Ed are his sisters, Dorothy Maxwell of Clarinda, Iowa and Mary Davison and husband Chris of Clarinda, Iowa; brothers, Howard Maxwell and John Maxwell of Clarinda; sisters-n-law, Gloria Maxwell of Hartford, South Dakota, Deana Maxwell of Hollywood, Florida and Janice Maxwell of Hull, Iowa along with extended family and friends.

McClintock, Ella Louise Nelson - Ella Louise (Nelson) McClintock, daughter of Clarence Sylvester and Jennie Kristina (Swanson) Nelson, was born August 24, 1918 at the family farm in rural Essex, Iowa. She passed away August 31, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 97.

Ella was born on the family farm 2 1/4 miles east of Essex where she attended country school. Her older sister helped her mother in the house and Ella worked outside with her father. Ella graduated from Essex High School with the class of 1935. After graduation she worked at Spurgeons and lived in Shenandoah.

On January 1, 1938 Ella was united in marriage to Riley McClintock at Riley's mother's home. They then started farming on two different farms east of Essex before moving to the home farm. In 1972 they built a home in Essex where Ella lived until March of this year when she moved into Good Samaritan in Red Oak for more care.

Ella worked beside Riley on the farm and also raised chickens. She dressed chickens and sold eggs along with helping with the milking and raising a garden.

Ella was a member of Franklin Grove Birthday Club. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church Choir for 50 years and taught Sunday School. She also was a member of the Quilters Club at St. John's until her macular degeneration caused her to quit. Ella enjoyed working outside, especially on the tractor. She liked to travel and enjoyed working at the Blue Belle Lodge in South Dakota for several years in the 70's. She also baked and decorated wedding cakes for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley McClintock; daughter, Jane McComb; parents; and a sister.

Ella is survived by her son, Larry McClintock and wife June of Essex, IA; five grandchildren, Tammy Brand and husband Roger of Apache Junction, AZ, Brian McComb and wife Reggie of Lakewood, CO, Kristin Adkins and husband Dean of Shenandoah, IA, Chad McClintock and wife Amy of Essex, IA and Bert McClintock and wife Tia of Fairfax, IA; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two nieces and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Burial will be held at the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Iowa.

Miller, William B. "Bill" - William B. (Bill) Miller, son of Max and Mildred (Darland) Miller, was born on September 13, 1942 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, at the age of 72, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was a long time resident of Page County and Shenandoah. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1961. Following graduation, he attended Iowa State University before starting his own trucking company - Miller Trucking.

He was a long time member of Shenandoah Elks Lodge #1122 and also of the Shenandoah Eagles Club. Bill served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Truckers Association. For many years he operated the Dollar Bar located on West Thomas.

During the winter months, Bill enjoyed his second home in Mesa, Arizona. Through the years, he enjoyed camping and his dog "Buddy". Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents; his brother, Jonathan; son-in-law, Josh Fritz and grandson Zack Porter.

Survivors include his children, Fred Miller of Red Oak, IA and Melissa Fritz of Tama, Iowa; stepson, Chris Porter; three grandchildren, Clayton Fritz, Jackson Miller and Mariah Miller; two sisters, Ann Nelson and husband Bruce of Lenexa, KS and Jane Gloede of Newhall, IA; brother, Mark Miller and wife Carol Lea of LeMars, IA; aunt, Phyllis Ketcham of Shenandoah; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Money, Donna J. - Donna J. Money, 79, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015. Her kind heart and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
Donna was born on November 19, 1935 in North Platte, NE. She married her husband George Money, first living in Omaha, NE, then eventually settling in Shenandoah, IA. There she owned and operated the Jack & Jill children’s clothing store for many years. She also worked with George at their manufacturing plant ITI, Inc. until they moved to Lincoln, NE in 2007 to be closer to their daughter Melissa “Mitsi”, son-in-law Dan Beecher, and granddaughter Nikki.
After George’s death in 2011, Donna moved to Mahoney Manor independent living apartments in Lincoln where she made many good friends. There she loved playing bingo and attending numerous resident social functions. Her hobbies also included reading books and watching American Idol. She particularly enjoyed spoiling her three grand-dogs with treats when they visited.
Donna continued to make friends with the residents and staff of the Tabitha Journey House hospice facility in Lincoln after moving there late last year. Games of dominoes, rummy, and bingo were a daily event.
Donna is survived by her daughter Melissa “Mitsi” and son-in-law Dan Beecher of Lincoln, Nebraska; granddaughter Nikki Beecher of Las Vegas, Nevada; niece Kathy Ward and husband Ron of Apache Junction, Arizona; dear friends Janet Gingery and family of Yorktown, Virgina and Brad Zackert and family of Kansas City, Missouri.
According to Donna’s wishes, there was no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of Donna’s life was held on Wednesday, June 24, at Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, NE. Donna was inurned in Mesa, AZ with her husband, George.

Morelock, Glenn - Mar 26, 1924 - Aug 19, 2015 - Glenn Morelock, age 91 of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Wednesday afternoon.

Morelock, Glenn Elbert - Glenn Elbert Morelock, the son of Jacob Jasper Morelock and Rena Ann Smith, was born near Farragut, Iowa on March 26, 1924. Glenn entered into rest on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 91.
Glenn was raised in the rural Farragut area. He attended and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1942. After graduating he began farming for a short time until World War II when he enlisted in the Army serving from September 15, 1944 to October 23, 1946 serving with the Headquarter Company the 24th Corp. After the war he continued to farm for over 40 years. On March 30, 1944, he was united in marriage to Gerldine Louise Gutschenritter in the St. Mary's Catholic Church rectory. To this union of marriage four children were born; Kathy, Max, Bonnie and Michael.
Glenn was active in his community. He was especially active in the American Legion Post 88 of Shenandoah where he was a long time member, serving as Commander from 1973-1974. Glenn was also a member of the American Legion Post 88 Color Guard. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed coffee shop hopping to find out the news of Shenandoah and the surrounding area.
He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine, a still born son Max Stephen, a daughter Bonnie Jean Danielson, his parents, brothers Earl and Elza Morelock and a sister Maxine Myers. Survivors include his daughter Kathy Allely and husband Terry of Shenandoah, Iowa, son Michael G. Morelock of Council Bluffs, Iowa, son-in-law Steve Danielson of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Kelly McFarland (Wayne) of Omaha, Nebraska, Rodney Allely (Teresa) of Shenandoah, Iowa, Jason Allely (Sarah) of Ft. Morgans, James Patrick - James Patrick Morgans, son of Ord Harold Morgans and Bernice Josephine (Johnson) Morgans, was born on December 25, 1946 at Red Oak, Iowa. He entered into rest early Tuesday morning, August 11, 2015 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 68 years, 7 months, 17 days.

Growing up, James' early life was spent in the communities of Boone and Essex, Iowa. He attended the Essex Community Schools, graduating from Essex High School with the Class of 1965. Following graduation, he attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri where he received a Degree in History. James later did his graduate work at Northwest Missouri State University and the University of Iowa.

On April 29, 1967, James was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judith Ann Raymond Rosenquist. Following their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah, where they raised their two children, Patrick James and Meredith Joy.

A celebrated Author, Historian and Lecturer, James shared his love of history while working at various educational programs. To his credit, he had over 200 articles published and taught writing courses on how to get published. He made numerous public presentations at various historical societies and conferences, including the Cowboy Hall of Fame, East Tennesee Historical Society, Des Moines Civil War Roundtable, the Western Historic Trails Center plus many other sites and venues. He authored four books: John Todd and the Underground Railroad, Letters and Reminiscences from the Iowa Frontier: John Todd and the Tabor Colony 1850-1865 and The Underground Railroad on the Western Frontier. James' fourth book is set to be released in the Fall/Winter of 2015 entitled, Grenville Mellen Dodge in the Civil War. James was also featured in a documentary titled The Jim Lane Trail about the Underground Railroad.

James was a member of the Tabor Historical Society, the Western Writers of America as well as a member of the United Congregational Church (UCC) in Council Bluffs. He enjoyed teaching Adult Sunday School at the UCC in Shenandoah and also served as a guest minister at various churches in Southwest Iowa. Even in his spare time, James enjoyed anything involving history, he also liked to follow his favorite teams, the Kansas City Royals and Husker Football. Most of all, he loved being "Papa" and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding James in death were his parents; nephew, Chris Eckley; brother-in-law, Steven Rosenquist; and father-in-laws, Robert Raymond and Harold Rosenquist. He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Judith Morgans, their two children, Patrick James Morgans and Meredith Joy Kuehler and her husband Scott and two grandchildren, Benjamin Patrick and Elizabeth Joy Kuehler, all of Omaha, NE; sister, Susan Eckley and husband Junior of Cape Gerardo, MO; brother, Joseph Morgans of Kingman, AZ; mother-in-law, Joy Rosenquist of Council Bluffs, IA; two sister-in-laws, Pam Roush and husband George and Marta Rosenquist, all of Council Bluffs, IA; seven nieces and nephews, Joseph Morgans, James Morgans, Sarah (Morgans) Estes, George Morgans, Jennifer (Eckley) Jemison, Dawn (Tillman) Millikan and Doug Tillman; 12 great grand nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mount, Carolyn A. Rasmussen - Carolyn A. (Rasmussen) Mount (age 74) died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Shenandoah, Iowa following a lengthy illness. She was born August 21, 1940 in Hamburg, Iowa to Elmer and Shirley (Rydberg) Rasmussen. Carolyn married Ronnie (Bud) Mount September 7, 1984 in Rockport, Missouri.
Carolyn grew up in rural Sidney, Iowa, attending Sunnyside School and graduating from Sidney High School in 1958. Carolyn worked at the Sidney Public Library for several years, before moving to Farragut. She enjoyed working at the Farragut Post Office for many years. Carolyn enjoyed seeing and talking to people every day at the Post Office and in inclement weather would hand deliver mail to the elderly residents of Farragut. She loved sewing and creating blankets for the new babies in her family, as well as, for others. In recent years, Carolyn and Bud retired to Shenandoah,
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband; her daughters, Carla and Todd Androy of Fremont, Nebraska, Michele Fichter, Cathy Fichter and Tony Songer, Melissa and Todd Bonnes all of Farragut; step-children Rick and Cindy Mount, Rhonda Mount Hockabout all of Farragut, Becky Mount Kincannon of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren Lacey Carpenter of Kansas City, Missouri, T.J. Bonnes of Farragut, Timothy and Alisha Androy of Council Bluffs, Tahrae Bonnes of Farragut, Jessica Foster of Fremont, Nebraska, Tanna and Stephen Griger of Boone, Iowa, and Danielle Fichter of Ames, Iowa, Dean and Shelly Mount, Clint and Julie Mount all of Riverton, Iowa, Brian Sell of Colorado, Sarah and Patrick Trausch of Omaha, Nebraska, Jessica and Josh Forester of Verona, Missouri and Melissa and James Sanders of Springfield, Missouri; and 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Carolyn is also survived by her brother Wayne and Patty Rasmussen of Sidney, nephews Steven Rasmussen of Wichita, Kansas, Christopher Rasmussen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dustin Rasmussen of Omaha, Nebraska and niece Leyla Rasmussen of Rogersville, Missouri; many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah with Rev. Bruce Hauswirth officiating. Burial will be in the Sidney Cemetery at Sidney, Iowa. Nally, Chad Michael - Chad Nally, age 36 , of Clarinda, entered into peace Monday, June 22 at his home in Clarinda following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Celebration of Life memorial services were held 10 a.m., Friday, June 26 at Ritchie Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Eighmy officiating. A private burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Chad Michael Nally was born June 14, 1979, in Clarinda, the son of Michael Nally and Vicki (Tritsch) Nally. He grew up in Braddyville attending South Page elementary schools and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1998. Chad was a talented athlete excelling in basketball, track and he also was a gifted actor participating in the theatre productions. He received his associate’s degree from Southeast Community College, Milford, Nebraska. Chad was united in marriage May 12, 2000 in Clarinda to Marcy Foster. They were blessed with two sons, Damon Phillip and Mason Michael.
From an early age, Chad enjoyed helping his Dad with the plumbing and heating business and became a part of Nally Plumbing as a Plumbing and Heating Technician.
Chad enjoyed his work and also enjoyed sports especially watching his sons participate in athletic events. He had a great sense of humor. His passion was his family and he was a great father and a loving husband. Chad cherished the time he had with all of his family. His legacy will live on through his sons. Chad will be remembered by all who knew him as honest, hard working, strong and resilient.

Neal, Evelyn Lee - Evelyn Neal, age 92, of Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Villisca, Iowa entered into peace Friday, August 28, 2015 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Evelyn was born January 23, 1923 to Forrest Lee and Lora (Wiley) Lee in Page County, Iowa near Clarinda. She graduated from Clarinda High School in 1940. She married Robert Neal on May 23, 1942 at Maryville, Missouri. To this union was born three children, Larry Lee, Janet Kay and Anne Marie. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lewis and Charles, granddaughter, Justine Lee Beerman and son, Larry.

Evelyn is survived by husband, Bob; brother, Robert (Gloria) Lee of Manhattan Beach, California; daughter-in-law, Connie Neal of Maryville, Missouri; daughters, Janet (Jim) Beerman of Omaha, Nebraska and Anne Pedersen of Ft. Madison, Iowa; grandchildren, Andrea Pedersen of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Kevin (Patty) Neal of Villisca, Iowa, Nicole (Mike) Shields of Bethany, Missouri, Brian Beerman of Chicago, Illinois, and Lisa (Jon) McMahan of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Bryce, Cooper, and Kort Neal, Ryan Pedersen, Grant and Ava Shields, Connor and Brooke McMahan.

Evelyn enjoyed being a homemaker and equal partner in the farming operation and an accomplished equestrian. She and Bob were the original members of the Nodaway Saddle Club, Nodaway, Iowa. They enjoyed riding in the grand entry for 30 plus years at the Sidney, Iowa rodeo as well as numerous local parades and horse shows. Evelyn was known for her culinary skills and was especially known for her chocolate pies. Evelyn was a member of the Guss Methodist Church. She loved her pets and there wasn’t a stray animal that didn’t find a home with her. She also enjoyed her family and making her grandkids their favorite meals and she and Bob made a point to invite them to stay at the farm

Nelson, Maxine Mary Fryer - Maxine Nelson, 98, of Clarinda, entered into peace Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda. Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 9, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clarinda with Reverend Jay Cline officiating. Visitation with the family was held 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, at Westminster Presbyterian Church prior to the service. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Maxine Mary Fryer was the daughter of Frederick and Elzene (McCoy) Fryer, born April 14, 1917, in Page County. She grew up in the Villisca area and graduated from Villisca High School. On June 30, 1935, she was united in marriage to I. Clifford Nelson at the home of her parents in rural Villisca. This union was blessed with four children, Darwin, Gary, Merrill and Sherrill. The family resided in Clarinda. Clifford died in 1993.
Maxine was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving on various committees of the church and in the women’s organization; a past president of the women’s group, past president of Church Women United, a fifty-plus year member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, a fifty-plus year member of the Eastern Star, a longtime member of the Clarinda Regional Health Center Auxiliary and a volunteer in community drives. She was an avid reader and bridge player and belonged to many other social clubs. Maxine also enjoyed cutting and decorating goose eggs and giving programs on the art of eggery. In later years she enjoyed oil painting and embroidery but overall her main interest was the love and care of her family.
Preceding Maxine in death were her parents: husband, Clifford Nelson; son, Darwin Nelson; sister, Violet Hanson and brother, William Fryer.

Gladys Marie Peterman was born February 22, 1917 at her parent’s farm home, Gaynor, Missouri. She was the daughter of Martin Edward Owens and Jennie Inez (Holland) Owens. Gladys grew up in the Hopkins, Missouri area attending Valley Country School. She graduated from Bedford High School. Following graduation, she taught school for three years. On March 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ivan Eldon Peterman. They were blessed with five children, Muriel “Jean”, Dixie Lee, Beverly “Joan”, Kathryn “Kay”, Bert Edward.

Ivan and Gladys farmed in the New Market area for several years before moving to Clarinda in 1955. Gladys was a machinist at Lisle Corporation for twenty two years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Gladys loved the outdoors and nature. She and her family did a lot of camping over the years in their trailer. Gladys enjoyed her flower gardens. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. Her family was her priority and she enjoyed being with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gladys enjoyed life and could entertain with her many stories.

Preceding Gladys in death were her parents; husband Ivan (03/26/1998); daughter, Joan Brown; daughter and husband, Dixie and Glade Booher; grandson, Bill Mick; brother, Orvie Edward Owens.

Petersen, Alice F. Reed - Alice F. (Reed) Petersen was born May 31, 1955 in Shenandoah, Iowa the daughter of Harlan Eugene and Anita Charlene (McLaughlin) Reed. She passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 60 years, 1 month and 9 days.

Alice grew up in Shenandoah, and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1973. On December 10, 1991 she was united in marriage to John Eric Petersen in Red Oak, Iowa. This union was blessed with one child, Troy Eugene Petersen.

Alice worked at Eatons after graduation until she became disabled in 1997. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She had an intense love for fast cars, fishing and an extreme loyalty to friends. She enjoyed time chatting with family and friends, picking apples and asparagus; and thought the most beautiful days were cloudy days. She inherited the art of writing entertaining letters from Aunt Mabel, and we loved to receive these works of art from her!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Charlene Reed; grandparents Floyd and Grace Reed, Charles and Mary Evelyn McLaughlin, as well as Aunts Mabel and Phyllis.

Survivors include her husband John Petersen of Shenandoah, Iowa, her son Troy Petersen of Shenandoah, Iowa, her brother Jack Reed and his wife Kate of Altoona, Iowa, niece, Amy Jo Liles (Charlie) of Shenandoah, Iowa, nephews, Chris Reed (Melissa) of Shenandoah, Iowa, Justin Reed (Brian Livermore) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, B. Patrick Hoburg (Callie) of West Lafayette, IN, Michael Hoburg of Chicago, IL., four great nephews, In-Laws, Robert and Paula Petersen, former sister-in-law Kathy Jandrew of Shenandoah, Iowa, along with many other relatives and friends.

Alice received dialysis for eighteen years (got to be a record), and we have great thanks and appreciation for all in the medical community that cared for her over the years, as well as a special thank you to her personal care givers.

Peterson, Kenneth "Kenny" - Kenneth "Kenny" Peterson, age 80, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society. Kenny was born October 12, 1934 in Essex, Iowa the son of Earl and Helen (Youngren) Peterson. He was raised in Page County and when his dad passed away in 1946, Kenny went to live at the Glenwood State school. He later moved to Page County where he was involved with Nishna Productions and moved to Red Oak to live in a residential home. He worked at the Nishna Productions workshop in Red Oak and for Pizza Hut in Red Oak. Kenny was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and The Red Oak Lions Club. He never knew a stranger and always loved to visit.

Preceding him in death were his parents; step-father: Enar Olson; and step-brother: Douglas Olson. Survivors include his sister: Ruth Peterson of Elmo, Missouri; step-sister: Onalea Huff of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 7 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Grace Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation will take place after the service and burial of the ashes will be in the High Prairie Cemetery at Elmo, Missouri. Rahn, James Richard - James Richard Rahn was born December 7 1953 in Clarinda, Iowa. The oldest of five children of Richard Rahn and Bessie Davis Rahn, James was also a child of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a paper carrier for the Omaha World Herald for many years. He graduated from Clarinda High School, where he excelled in wrestling as well as football and track. He was given the Mr. Cardinal Award in his senior year. After high school, James attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where he studied religion, philosophy and German. It was also at Cornell where he met his future wife, Brenda Carl. They were married in May 1979 and moved to Clarinda, where James worked with his father in the carpentry business. James and Brenda became the parents of three children, Joseph James, David Michael and Emily Bryn. It was on the arrival of the youngest, Emily, that James became a stay at home dad, which he said was one of his greatest joys. James made no secret of his struggles with alcohol and was very involved in the A. A. community both on a local and regional level. He began to work with Zion Recovery Services and found a sense of fulfillment working with those involved in this program. In 2015, the family relocated to Holcombe, Wisconsin, a lake community in western Wisconsin. James said he fell in love with Wisconsin and felt a renewal of spirit and enthusiasm there and was excited about the prospect of fishing, which he hadn’t done for quite a while. On arrival in Wisconsin he became involved in the A. A. community and was looking forward to working with a residential substance abuse program that he said reminded him of his work in Iowa.
On August 9, 2015, James passed away at his home in Holcombe, Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Bessie Rahn, his aunt, Ruth Rahn, and his youngest brother, Kenneth Rahn. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Carl Rahn and his three children, Joseph, David and Emily, all of Holcombe, Wisconsin. He is also survived by three siblings, sister, Nancy Rahn, sister, Janice Rahn Francis (Bill Francis), and brother, Paul Rahn (Nancy Buch Rahn), nephew Carlton and niece Carly Rahn, all of Clarinda, Iowa and sister-in-law, Melissa Rahn and nephews Jason Rahn and McCoy Baker of Glenwood, Iowa. He also leaves behind many friends and will be missed.

Reed, Gary Porter - Gary Porter Reed, 81, of Hershey, Neb., passed away Saturday, July 18, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.
Gary was born July 1, 1934, to George Porter and Delpha Arline Campbell Reed at Shambaugh where he grew up on a farm. Gary attended Shambaugh Grade School and graduated in 1953 from Clarinda High School in Clarinda. He then attended the Gale Institute in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated in 1954. Gary was employed by the C.B.&Q. Railroad as an agent-operator for a couple years before he went to work for the Nebraska Public Power System in Bellevue. He worked for NPPS and the merged systems for 34 years.
On June 26, 1955, Gary married Katherine Maurine Teeters in New Market. They lived in Bellevue and Cortland-Princeton, Neb. for a number of years. Gary served on the Cortland Volunteer Fire Depart. for 16 years and was a member of Highland Lodge #194 AF&AM where he was a Master Mason and Past Master.
They moved to Hershey in 1977 and were members of the Hershey United Methodist Church. Gary was active in the Hershey community. He served on the Booster Board, Volunteer Fire Dept. and Lions Club, and supported Hershey Youth Baseball for 28 years and spent 27 years doing stats for the Hershey High School football games. Gary was also an avid bowler and member of the North Platte Bowlers Hall of Fame. He served on the North Platte Men’s Bowling Board as well.
He is survived by his children, Gayle (Dave) Beran, of North Platte and twins, Gary Kevin (Darcie) Reed, of Heartwell, Neb., and Gena Kim Reed, of Hershey; six grandchildren, Trevor (Heather) Stringham, Ashley (Richard) Perkins and Katrina Beran, all of North Platte, Kyle (Shawna) Stringham, of Merna, Neb., and Nolan Reed and Arabella Reed, both of Heartwell; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Janess Warren, of Shambaugh; sister-in-law, Kathleen Teeters, of New Market; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; parents, George and Delpha; and his sister, Joyce Hoy.

Shook, Edward Lee - Edward Lee Shook, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Edward Lee Shook was born March 17, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Elbridge and Lauretta (Ronk) Shook. He was raised in the Emerson area graduating from Emerson High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958. Upon his return from service Ed went to work for Charles Lakin. He was united in marriage to Barbara Putnam on July 27, 1963 in Shenandoah, Iowa. They made their home in Shenandoah. Edward worked for the John Deere dealership, the International dealership, and later the Lakes Nursery in Shenandoah before moving to Red Oak where he worked at Uniroyal. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and enjoyed horses, rodeos, woodworking, fishing, and traveling.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Barbara Shook of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Kimberly Shook-Shurter and husband Rick of Shenandoah, Iowa; many cousins and friends including Dylan Crone of Omaha, Nebraska of whom Edward thought of as a grandson.

Sickman, Wilbur Gerhard - Wilbur Gerhard Sickman was born May 15, 1925 near Westboro, Missouri, the son of Henry Frederick and Katharine (Lauman) Sickman. He passed away on Tuesday evening, June 23, 2015 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 8 days.
Wilbur grew up in the Westboro, Missouri and Northboro, Iowa area. He attended school at Hillsdale Country School and in Westboro. On October 17, 1954 he was united in marriage to Helen Miriam Laura Carlson at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bethesda, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Miriam and Gery.
Wilbur farmed most of his life. In the later years he and Helen ran the post office in Northboro, Iowa. Wilbur also drove a truck hauling livestock to Omaha for many years. Wilbur loved farming, especially his cows and calves. He was a quiet man who was a good listener and had a great memory. His true love of life was his family and his farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a brother, Walter Sickman and his wife Garnett; and a sister, Wilma Youngberg.

Simmons, Nellie Ridnour Jones - Nellie Simmons, daughter of Jeahue and Sarah Ridnour, was born in Clarinda Sept 4, 1899, and died in the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda May 22, 1956, at the age of 56 years, eight months and 18 days. Mrs Simons [sic] had spent her entire life in the Clarinda community.

In June, 1920, she was united in marriage to Bert E. Jones. To this union two children were born, Rolland Jones of Clarinda and Mrs Vonda Lease of Richmond, Va.

In August, 1930, Mr Jones died. On Sep 24, 1931, she was married to George Simmons of Clarinda and together they raised her children.

Mrs Simmons accepted Christ as her personal saviour early in life. She was baptized and united with the membership of the United Brethern Church.

Mrs Simmons had been in poor health for the past twenty years and had been a shut-in the past six years.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, George; a son, Rolland; a daughter, Vonda; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs Rosie Stipe of Clarinda, Mrs Frank Medsker of Atchison, Kans., Mrs Eva Spencer of Clarinda, and Mrs Alice Lucas of San Diego, Calif; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral Home May 25 with the Rev R.G. McGhghy., in charge assisted by Mrs McGhghy. Vocalist was Mary Brummett, organist Aletha Hutchings. Smith, Ruby May Pontious - Ruby May Pontious Smith, daughter of John Henry Pontious and Bessie Arloa Bloom, was born November 11, 1913 at Norwich, Iowa, Page County and entered into her eternal home on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas at the age of 101.

Ruby attended school through the 8th grade in Norwich, Iowa and one year of high school in Shenandoah, Iowa. Then moved to Pawnee City, Nebraska, to live with her sister Marie Williams where she attended high school.

In 1932 she was united in marriage to Cecil L. Johnson to this marriage three sons were born, Boyd L., Richard E., Buddy H.

Ruby had seven brothers, and four sisters, Zetta Comer, Sadie Louise, Zetta Comer, Marie William, Irma Lucille; brothers, Russell, Mack, Jake, Leslie, Harold (Bob), George, and Howard and a half-sister Mina.

Ruby married Alec M. "Mitch" Searcy in 1939, he passed away in 1964. After the death of Mitch she moved back to Shenandoah to take care of her mother and to work as a clerk for the "Corner Drug Store" in Shenandoah. On September 10, 1966, she was united in marriage to Harry Smith at St. Mary's Church in Shenandoah. After their marriage they made their home west of Imogene on the farm.

Ruby was a lifetime member of American Legion, she served in the Womens Army Air Corp at Topeka, Kansas. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilary and the St. Patrick's Altar Society and St. Mary's Catholic Church Ladies Guild. She had attended Capital School of Beauty in Omaha, Nebraska.

Preceding her in death was her sons, brothers and sisters and two grandchildren step daughter Janet Whitehill.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Nancy Richards of Flint Michigan, Julie Collier of Flint Michigan, Pam Addleman of Table Rock, Nebraska, Ruby Parks of Arizona, Clay Parks of Johnson, Kansas, Rodney Trimmer of Nebraska, City, Nebraska, Jean Trimmer of Pawnee City, Nebraska, Kenny Johnson of Colorado, Chad Williams of Crete, Nebraska, Frankie Parks; step grandchildren, Lloyd Kirkland of Johnson, Kansas, Bobby Kirkland of Colorado, Ray Kirkland of Colorado, Anita Steddam, Colorado; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, step daughter Barb Hilger of Farragut, Iowa and two step sons Jim Smith of Charlotte, NC., Steve Smith of Shelby, NC., and their families; other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Squier, Jasper Newton - EARLY PIONEER PASSED AWAY AT AGE EIGHTY-FIVE, Jasper Newton Squier passed away just before midnight Saturday, at his home 607 N. 10th Street, at the ripe age of past 84, more than 74 years of this having been spent in this vicinity.

As a boy of 10 he made the trip overland from Ohio with his parents, driving an ox team in true pioneer style, and leading the cow behind, with what few agricultural implements and household goods they could muster. The first winter was spent at Leon, Ia., the boy's mother having hurt her foot so they could not proceed further. Then they came further west, his father, Andrew Jackson Squier at one time having been postmaster at Manti.

Later the boy grew to manhood, was married, and, with his wife who survives him, lived at Memory, the town which was later moved to New Market, when the railway came through here.

It is fitting therefore that interment should be in Old Memory cemetery, south of the scenes of his younger days, the funeral services being held this Monday afternoon from Pruitt's Funeral Home, conducted by Dr D.J. Shenton, the Methodist minister.

Jasper Newton Squier was born August 8th, 1845 in Ohio. He leaves a wife, with one brother, Leon E. Squier, two sisters, Mrs Helen Clark and another sister in the west, besides two sons, Jay Squier of Clarinda and Ellsworth Squier of Manchester, the foregoing all present at the funeral. Squire, Leon E. - Leon E. Squier, son of A.J. and Joanne Squier, was born in Page county on Jun 1, 1860, and after 74 years, 1 month and 24 days of enjoying life, died very suddenly at his home northeast of Clarinda on July 25, 1934.

He was a native son of Iowa, being a thrifty farmer when he grew to manhood. He found his life partner, and on December 23, 1881, he was married to Cynthia Vanpelt. Together these made their home, welcoming three daughters. They lived for the most part in Iowa, but have also lived in several states from here to Washington, farming and working in sugar beet field.

He leaves his loving wife to mourn her loss, and his three daughters, Nancy Hansen of Denver, Colo.,Ella Crowe of Kansas City, Mo., and Fern Milleson of Kansas City, besides two son-in-law, Mr Hansen and Mr Milleson, three grandchildren, Martha Crow of Kansas City, Leon Crowe of Fort Leavenworth, Kans, and a great-grand daughter in Wray, Colo.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Walker Funeral Home, attended by members of his family and his many friends in this vicinity, who were saddened to hear of his sudden attack. Stevens, Mary Davison - Mary Stevens, 89, of Clarinda, formerly of Clearmont, Mo. entered into peace Friday, Aug. 7 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 10 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda with Reverend Bill Briley officiating. Visitation with the family was held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Shearer Cemetery or to the Braddyville Methodist Church.
Mary was born on Sept. 8, 1925 on a farm east of Braddyville to Clyde Byron and Bertha Vide Davison Moffitt. She was a 1943 graduate from Braddyville High School and received a teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State College. She taught 1st and 2nd grade for seven years in Hamburg and Prescott.
While teaching in Prescott she met Gail "Johnny" Stevens and they were married at the Methodist Church in Siam on July 20, 1952. The couple resided on a farm near Clearmont, Mo. where they raised four children, Larry (Doris) Stevens of Burlington, Jct., Mo., Marcia (Steve) Armstrong of Coin, Rodney (Connie) Stevens of Braddyville, Judy (Kevin) Weishar of Manama, Bahrain.
Mary was a devoted wife and a caring, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also was a strong Christian woman who applied her excellent nurturing and teaching skills to many years of leading Sunday school classes. She was an active member of the Braddyville United Methodist Church and the UMW.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her brother Ivan Moffitt and sister Frances Briley, brothers-in-law Roy Christensen, Jim Crawford and Don Briley, sister-in-law Mary Zoa Moffitt and son-in-law Jim Ingraham.
A rich woman by any meaningful measure, her husband, her children, twelve grandchildren, Brian (Shelly) Stevens, Amber (Kyle) Newsom, Nikki (Todd) Carlson, Katie (Greg) Branson, Jeff (Lori) Armstrong, Jenny (Sam) Becker, Ashley (Andy) Babbel, Tyler Stevens, Zachary (Maggie) Stevens, McKenzie Stevens, Michael Weishar, Doyle Weishar, twenty-two great grandchildren, sisters Verla Christensen, Shenandoah, Effie Crawford, Osceola, and brother, Leroy (Barb) Moffitt, Murphy, N.C., nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends are left to fondly cherish her memory.

Stevens, Robert Jeffrey - Robert Jeffrey Stevens was born July 16, 1975 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Robert Eugene and Barbara Ann (Bangston) Stevens. He passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 40 years, 1 month and 15 days.
Robbie grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1994. Following high school Robbie remained in Clarinda. He was a free spirited young man who enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Byron & Eva Stevens and Harley and Wilma Bangston; his mother, Barbara; two uncles, Richard Bangston and Gary Stevens; one sister and three brothers.
Survivors include his father, Robert Stevens and his wife Jean of Clarinda, Iowa; his brother, Danny Stevens of Canada; aunts and uncles, Lowell Stevens and his wife Linda of Paola, Kansas, Dwayne Stevens and his wife Linda of New Market, Iowa; his girlfriend, Loretta R. Marecharle of Clarinda, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. Richard Iske officiating. Straw, Roger Eugene Sr - Roger Eugene Straw Sr. was born October 5, 1956 at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City, NE, to Roger Dale Straw and Minnie Marie (Osborn) Straw. He entered into eternal life on August 9th, 2015 at Villisca Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, IA at the age of 58 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Gene lived in Nebraska City until he was 7 years old, the family then moved to Anderson, IA where Gene attended Anderson School and Sidney Community School.
Roger who is known to his family and friends as Gene was united in marriage to Judith Elaine Mascher of Clarinda, Iowa on December 28, 1974. To this union four sons were born: Aaron, Roger Jr., Jamie and Brian. They lived in Essex, Sidney and Hamburg before moving back to his childhood home in Anderson, IA. After raising their children Gene and Judy made their home in Villisca, Iowa.
In his younger years Gene raised his pet pig, named Harve and his Donkey name Jack along with many chickens. Harve and Jack meant the most to him as a young teenager and the best friends one could have. ln his younger days he also enjoyed fishing, riding horses, hunting and riding his motorcycle. He spent most of his working life in the farming industry until he could no longer work. ln the latter years his enjoyment turned to camping, fishing, his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He loved his family very much and loved watching them grow up into adult hood.
Gene and Judy were members of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca, la.
Preceding him in death were his mother Minnie (Straw) Fagan, granddaughter Rachel Elaine Straw, and great-granddaughter Zaylee Ann Blystone.
He is survived by his family: wife, Judy Straw of Villisca, Iowa sons: Aaron Straw of Anderson, Iowa. Roger Straw Jr. of Red Oak, Iowa. Jamie Straw and wife Kim of Villisca, Iowa. Brian Straw and fiance Cheyenne of Red Oak, Iowa. 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brother Ronald Straw and wife Rita of Shenandoah, Iowa; sisters Vickie Skinner and husband David of Shenandoah, Iowa. Patty Fagan and fiancé David Alchibad of Nebraska City, Nebraska; Kathy Heins and husband Rick of Nebraska City, Nebraska; aunt Barbara Delong and husband Jim of Rockport, Missouri; aunt Doris Lane and husband Nick of Lincoln, Nebraska; and uncle Harold and wife Sonnie from Omaha, Arkansas; along with many other family and friends.

Sump, Arnold Fred - Arnold Fred Sump was born November 11, 1935 to Wilbur John Sump and Martha Elizabeth (Colbertson) Sump at Yorktown, Iowa. He farmed with his father until his father became ill and Arnold dropped out of school to farm and tend to the family. He later returned to school and graduated.
Arnold met Dorothy Arthur in 1971 and they raised her four daughters: Diana, Donna, Debbie and Denise.
Arnold worked on small engines and also was active in his screen printing shop in his home. He finished the Clarinda Little League 2015 team shirts for this past season. He and Dorothy ran the Little Diner in Clarinda. Arnold enjoyed raising horses and training them and a side trade was shoeing horses in the area. He really enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, jet-skiing—anything he and his grandkids could do together. He was “Grandpa” to the many kids who came to his home.

Arnold passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at his home at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, daughter Denise, and sister-in-law Carol Sump.
He is survived by brothers Marvin Sump and wife Hazel, of Los Angeles, California, John Sump of Tabor, Iowa, Lila Moore of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Caroline “Esther” Eichor and husband Tim of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; daughters Diana Wise of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Donna Anderson and husband Jeff of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Debbie Johnson and husband Rod of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren David Stalder and wife Tina, Katina Antonucci and husband Glenn, Mike Wise and wife Diane, Shaun McAlpin, Josh McAlpin and wife Dee, Jessica McAlpin, Dawnelle Arthur, Jeremy Johnson and wife Lori, Ashley Brown and her son Jakob; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Summit Cemetery with Mike Wheeler officiating. Sunderman, Jean Louise Steeve - Jean Louise Sunderman was born September 19, 1921 near Bethesda, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Veda (Gustafson) Steeve. She passed away on Monday morning, July 6, 2015 at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center in Bedford, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 17 days.
Jean grew up in rural Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1939. On December 15, 1940 she was united in marriage to Rollyn Sunderman in Clarinda, Iowa. This union was blessed with three daughters, Judith, Marcia and Cheryl.
Jean was a homemaker and farm wife raising her three girls and helping Rollyn on the farm. She enjoyed baking, sewing and working on the farm. Her true love was her family and any activity involving her family. After Jean and Rollyn retired from the farm they moved into Clarinda and she worked in the Super-Valu bakery. She also attended Hillside Missionary Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rollyn; her daughter, Marcia; three grandchildren; and a brother, Morris Steeve.

Thompson, Elizabeth Faye Radke - Elizabeth Thompson, age 98, of New Market, Iowa, entered into peace Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Westridge Care & Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Elizabeth Faye Thompson was born May 20, 1917 in Clarinda, Iowa to Ernest Radke and Celesta (Bartlett) Radke. She grew up in Clarinda with her three sisters and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1935. Elizabeth and Merrill Thompson were united in marriage February 12, 1938 in Clarinda. They were blessed with three children, Ruth Elaine, Merrill Dean and Kathy Ann.

Elizabeth, or as everyone called her “Granny”, was a people person and loved visiting with family and friends. She had many interests including country music with a favorite being George Strait. Granny also enjoyed Lawrence Welk as well as gospel music with the Gaithers. She was a collector of “red birds” (Cardinals), spoons and photos which ended up in numerous scrapbooks. She also enjoyed her flower gardens. Granny’s main interest was her family. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed playing Skip Bo with them with the condition that she won the first game! She was a life long member of the First Christian Church.

Preceding Granny in death were her parents; husband, Merrill Thompson (4/23/2001); sisters, Alice Cade, Hope Milleson and Ruth Tornholm; great grandchild, Brody Pulliam.

Thompson, Golda Margaret Rasco - Golda Margaret was born August 24, 1928 in Nodaway County, Missouri to Albert and Mary Sue Rasco. She graduated from Horace Mann High School on May 16, 1946. She married Albert (Tommy) Thompson on February 23, 1947 at the Christian Church in Clarinda, Iowa, where they also made their home and raised their four children.
Golda was employed as the bookkeeper at the Clarinda Salvage, as a staff member at Garfield Elementary School and then as the Page County Deputy Recorder at the Page County Courthouse.
Golda was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarinda. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and loved being with her family.
On August 17, 2015 Golda passed away at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab in Clarinda at the age of 86. Golda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Don Rasco.
Golda is survived by her sisters: Mildred of Napa, California and Martha Hayden of Graham, Missouri and her brother Dale Rasco of St. Joseph, Missouri; her children; Cherri Blair and husband Myron of Hollywood, Florida, Terry Thompson and wife Darlene of Waverly, Nebraska, Kent Thompson and wife Ginny of Clarinda, Iowa and Jeff Thompson and wife Tracey of Seward, Nebraska – grandchildren; Tom Blair, Shawn Thompson, Janine Mallardi, Heather Thompson, Mary Clague, Joshua Thompson, Samantha Dvorak, Alex Thompson, Karli Thompson and Shea Thompson – great grandchildren; Brendon Blair, Chase Rehder, Lauren Blair, Cole Thompson, Scarlett Clague, Caleb Mallardi, Leah Mallardi, Hannah Mallardi, Abigail Mallardi, Kail Thompson.

Whitehill, James Edward - James Edward Whitehill was born April 11, 1937 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Robert Lee and Vera Opal (Chambers) Whitehill, Sr. He passed away on Saturday evening, July 25, 2015 in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 14 days.
Jim grew up in rural Page County and graduated from Coin High School. He later attended college in Maryville. On February 7, 1959 he was united in marriage to Nancy Rae Keele in Shenandoah. This union was blessed with four children, Larry, Rhonda, Randy and Lance.
Jim farmed for Joe O’Hara for several years. In 1976 he moved to Nebraska City where he worked for Orscheln’s Farm & Home. In 1981, his family moved back to Shenandoah and he finished out a 35 year career with Orscheln’s. He then worked as a caretaker of the American Legion Country Club in Shenandoah.
Jim was a proud member of the Elks and Eagle’s Lodge. He loved golf, playing, teaching and caring for the course. He and Nancy were avid country dancers and even gave lessons. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed his El Camino’s through the years, Sudoku puzzles and playing cards at the Elks, Eagles and at Miller’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nancy in 2009; brothers, Kenneth, Darrell and Boyd Whitehill and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Whitehill.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah. Visitation with the family present will take place on Tuesday evening, July 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. Wiebold, Helen Jaeggi - The Lord called Helen C. Wiebold home on August 3, 2015, from the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. Helen was born to Walter C. and Ida (Oppliger) Jaeggi on November 27, 1917 in Columbus, Nebraska. She attended Columbus Schools and graduated from Kramer High School in 1935. During the early part of her life, she was employed by Consumers Electric and Montgomery Ward’s Ladies Fashions. She helped care for her parents, Walter and Ida, for 30 years, while at the same time caring for her family.
She belonged to several Pinochle Card Clubs. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus of which her parents were starting charter members. In her earlier years she taught Sunday school, Bible School and was a member of the Ladies Aid.
Helen was a special Grandma and a great storyteller to her two grandchildren. One of them even wanted to take her to show-and-tell at school. Helen was a very helping, sharing and caring person – always with a smile on her face – respected for these traits by all.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rollo in 2002; two sisters, Edna (Joe) Hage, Doris (Don) Godard; a brother, Walter (Lynn) Jaeggi, Jr.
She is survived by her two sons, David (Kathleen) Wiebold of Shenandoah, Iowa, Donald Wiebold of Columbus, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Keely (Jason) Bouska of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Christian (Molly) Wiebold of Shenandoah, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Logan Wiebold, Austin Bouska, Brantley Bouska, and Paige Wiebold; a sister, Elfrieda (Lloyd) Jenkinson; a brother, Robert (Tanya) Jaeggi; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Inurnment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska. There will be a visitation from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and a Celebration of Life Service held at 11:00 a.m. at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, Nebraska. Young, Lois Howes - Lois Young, 82, passed away Sept. 5, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Holstein, IA. She was born in Taylor County, IA, on Feb. 16, 1933, to Dallas and Ethel (Peterman) Howes.

Lois was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed visiting with her family, traveling and accompanying her husband, Carroll, to craft fairs and coin shows. Lois and Carroll were married 53 years and managed an apartment complex in Ames, IA for more than 12 years before Carroll’s passing in 2005. They were also long-time residents of Sac City, IA for more than 30 years where they owned and operated Young's Plumbing & Heating. They also previously lived in Bedford and Newell, IA.

Lois is survived by her daughters and son in-laws Vicki and Darrell Godfrey of Holstein, IA, Patsy and Tim Mulcahy of Peachtree City, GA, and Tammy and Red Johnson of Hubbard, TX; her granddaughter Meghan Mulcahy of Goodwell, OK; grandson Johnny Johnson III of Hubbard, TX; and great grandchildren Johnny IV and Layla Johnson and Jarred Johnson Kraemer. She also is survived by her brothers David (Sharron) Howes and Richard (Rosella) Howes and sisters Ruth (Orville) Marsh and Jeanne Kirk, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dallas and Ethel Howes; husband, Carroll Young; grandson Brandon Johnson; brothers Junior and Benny Howes; and sisters Crystal Ames, Naomi Moore, Anita Hall, Marilyn Bradley and Linda Hull.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Dallas Center Cemetery near New Market, IA with Pastor Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Burial will be in the Dallas Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Holstein, IA, or to the Alzheimer’s Association in the loving memory of Lois.
