Adair, Robert Eugean - Robert Eugean Adair was born on September 4, 1948, in Red Oak, Iowa; a son to Kenneth Orville and Ruby (Sullivan) Adair. He attended and graduated from high school in Clarinda and following graduation, Robert joined the United States Army. He served his country during the Vietnam War and later was honorable discharged.

Following his military service, Robert resided in Texas where he worked with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correctional Office.
In 2004, Robert relocated to Clarinda, Iowa. While in Clarinda, he enjoyed time spent with his friends playing pool at the local bars as well as fishing.

Robert passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at his residence in Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Jerry Adair, Kenneth Adair, Jean Jones and Linda Mace and niece Rhonda Larsen.

Surviving Robert are his sons: Robert Adair and wife Wanda of Harker Heights, TX and Roy Adair of Killeen, TX; grandchildren: Mikayla Adair and Robert Adair III; siblings: Lester Adair and wife Denise of Florida, Keith Adair and wife Martha of Underwood, Iowa, Phyllis Adair, Lavonne Kramer of Florida, Anna Cross of Burlington, Iowa and Kay Smith of Keokuk, Iowa.

Graveside services for Robert will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Clarinda Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Clarinda American Legion Sergy Post #98. There is no visitation scheduled. Memorials are suggested to Robert’s family.

Adams, Charles "Charlie" W. - Charles "Charlie" W. Adams, 85, of Shenandoah passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014, at 2:00 pm at the Veterans Memorial Chapel in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday, November 16 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charlie's name are being directed to the family. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Charles William Adams, son of Orval Leslie and Alice Jo (Emanuel)Adams, was born on December 28, 1928 at Gravity, Iowa. He passed away on November 11, 2014 at his home in Shenandoah surrounded by his family.
Charles was the oldest of three children. He grew up in Iowa most of his life with the exception of living in Illinois for short time when he was small.
A retired tenant farmer, Charles worked for John Walker and Marvin Hunt the longest. He also worked for the Mount Arbor's and Lakes nurseries. In addition, he also worked on a dredging barge on the Missouri River. After retirement from farming, he worked part-time as a security guard for parades and games.
Charles joined the Army National Guard on November 1, 1948 and was honorably discharged on January 1, 1952. On February 15, 1952 he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He spent a year in Korea during the war building roads and delivering supplies to the front lines. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1955. He was very proud to be a veteran. He was a member of both the American Legion and VFW.
While working in Kansas he met Lillie Bell Flint and they were married on July 24, 1952 in Wathena, Kansas. There were five children born to this union; Kathleen S. Annette R., Charles L., Orval R. and John W. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Preceding Charles in death were his parents; brother, Harold L. (Cotton) Adams; sister, Hazel Kalkas; nephew, Randall Adams; and a granddaughter, Tabitha Lancon.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lillie; five children, Kathie (Duane) Lockhart of Rozet, WY, Ann (Dickie) Archer of Red Oak, IA, Lee Adams of Belvidere, NE, Orval (Ruth) Adams of Coin, IA, and John (Tammy) Adams of Shenandoah; sister-in-law, Dorothy Adams of Sidney, IA; grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Tschacher of SD, Michael (July) Lockhart of Wy, Arron Lockhart of WY, Richie (Shawn) Archer of NE, Heather (Clyde) Zeigler of IA, Keri Adams of IA, C W (Dezma) Adams of IA, Jessie (Candella) Finchem of IA, Amber (John) Rodriguez of FL, Brayden Adams of IA, Miley Adams of IA, Steven (Jessica) Rogers of NE and Krystal Adams of IA; 28 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Allbee, Richard - Nathaniel "Richard" Allbee, Jr. age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2014 at his residence. Richard was born September 25, 1940 in Atchison County, Missouri near Fairfax, the son of Nathaniel Richard Allbee, Sr. and Margaret Walker Allbee. The family moved to Iowa when Richard was young. He was united in marriage to Shirley Jones Travis on October 8, 1967 in Shenandoah, Iowa. They lived in Shenandoah until moving to Red Oak in 1975 where Richard worked for Thos. D. Murphy Company, Berning's Red Coach Inn, and Acorn Acres. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Shirley on September 27, 2011; and sister: Katherine Schoonover. Survivors include his sons: Ed Travis and wife Jonya of Shenandoah, IA and Allen Travis of Shenandoah, IA; grandchildren: Melody Ann Wells and husband Shon of Clarinda, IA and Tiffany Travis of Sheridan, WY; great grandchildren: Alexus Willis, Miani Wells, Cash Harold, Somari Wells, and Ariah Wells; brother: Charles Allbee of Dublin, GA; sister: Gloria Pearson and husband John of Wahoo, NE; brother-in-law: Martin Hale of Seattle, WA; and many other relatives and friends.

Anderson, Lillie "Beth Ann" - Lillie Beth Ann Anderson, daughter of Alvin Clarence and Lillie Elmena "Gustafson" Anderson was born November 21, 1938 in Clarinda, Iowa. Beth Ann passed away on November 1, 2014 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Beth Ann was the seventh and youngest of five brothers and one sister. She grew up on a farm near the Norwich area where her father farmed and worked at the Iowa State Conservation Farm located on Highway 2. Her mother was a very hard working woman who cared for the family. Beth Ann was diagnosed with a mild mental condition at the age of six, which was caused by very severe fever and sickness as a baby. She attended country school for a short time and remained at home following that where she was cared for and taught by her family.

She lived a remarkable life and outlived predictions of her life span by many doctors. She did not let her handicap affect her style of living. She was able to learn and had a very good memory. Beth Ann could talk and carry on a conversation with anyone. She always wanted to help someone else and helped care for her mother when the two lived together after leaving the farm and moving to Clarinda, Iowa. She would do errands for her mother, such as hanging clothes on the line, helping cook and bake, doing general household duties and walking downtown to get medicine. She attended church with her mother, went to coffees and parties, visited with the neighbors and always looked forward to visits from her brothers and sister and their families. She loved all of her nieces and nephews who called her "Auntie Beth". She was called this so often that at times when asked her name, she would answer Auntie Beth Anderson!

Beth Ann was able to visit several of her siblings and many such visits were by ways of transportation she had never experienced before, but being the good trooper that she was she enjoyed them all. She had her first passenger train ride in 1962 when she and her mother traveled from Clarinda, IA to Osceola AFB, WI to visit her sister, Donna and husband, Bill. Then in 1988 she had her first airplane ride to Denver, CO to visit her niece, Debbie and her new great nephew, Brent. She was able to visit many times with her brother, Richard and family in Sibley, IA where she spent 2 to 3 weeks every summer. Beth Ann also visited her brother, Howard and family at U.S. Air Force bases in Kansas, Ohio and Oklahoma. She always looked forward to her brother, Marvin's visits. He always brought her something new which made her feel very special. She visited her brother, Irvin in Boone, IA., and her sister, Donna and husband in Osakis, MN, where she had her first experience at boat riding and fishing. During the winter of 1975 she and her mother stayed in Houston, TX with her sister, Donna and family while her mother recuperated from an illness. Beth Ann enjoyed going to visit and stay with her niece, Debbie and being able to go to her nephew, Mike's home for special holidays. She enjoyed going places and seeing new things but Clarinda was home to her and she always looked forward to brother, Clark and family stopping by.

Special memories of Beth Ann are so precious to the family. She was included in all the family gatherings, reunions and weddings. Christmas and her birthday was Beth Ann's favorite time so those days were always made special for her. Some of her own memories were not so pleasant for her but to the others in the family they are remembered with smiles and laughter. Her first ferris wheel ride and going through the magnetized lop- sided house at an amusement park were two such occasions.

After her mother passed away Beth Ann lived at Garden View Care Center for a short while and then with her sister Donna and husband Bill in Shenandoah. In 1984 Beth Ann moved to the Page County Home in Clarinda, Iowa until returning to her sister's home in Shenandoah in September 2001. She began working at Nishna Productions Workshop in Shenandoah where she made many friends and loved going to work every day. She became ill in 2004 and entered Garden View Care Center, and later in July 2012 she moved to Elm Heights Care Center where she lived until she passed away. Beth Ann accepted changes and adapted well to them. She never complained. She was always happy, always smiling, always making new friends and always wanting to help others.

Some of her interest and hobbies were going for rides, shopping at Walmart, watching television, putting puzzles together, playing bingo, looking at movie, television and country music magazines, listening to music, especially her favorite country music and going to parties and visiting with her friends. When going out for the day with family Beth always enjoyed going to her favorite place to eat, McDonalds, and then stopping for an ice cream cone at the Dairy Queen. She was always ready to go back to her home though and when arriving back to the care center, she would always say, "Home Sweet Home".

Beth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Irvin, Howard, Marvin and Clark, loving sister-in-law, Myrna Anderson, brother-in-law and best friend Bill Rulon, baby niece, Melissa Francis Anderson and nephew, Tod Eugene Anderson,

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Richard Anderson and wife Gene Ann of Sibley, IA, sister Donna Rulon of Shenandoah, 13 nieces and nephews, 22 great nieces and nephews, 2 great-great nieces and 1 great-great nephew, other relatives and many friends.

Biggs, Jerome Young - Memorial services for J.Y. Biggs, 78, of Clarinda will be at 11 am, Wednesday at Westminster Prebyterian Church with Rev Ron Swedberg officiating. Private burial services will be held.

Mr Biggs died June 30, 1985 at Methodist Medical Center in Omaha where he had been a patient since Tuesday.

He was born Sept 16, 1906, in Sherman, Tx, the son of Leila M. Young Biggs and James Biggs.

Jerome was preceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Dale Fones; brother, Edward Biggs; sister Dorothy Curtice; and brother John Biggs.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Fleener Biggs to whom he was married on Oct 18, 1941. Also surviving are his four children: Mary Linda Biggs of rural Clarinda, Jerome Biggs Jr, of Bedford, Major John Dale Biggs currently stationed at the Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Ks; and Elizabeth Barrett Goehring from Upper Heyford Air Force Base, England. There are six grandchildren.

Mr Biggs attended Stephen F. Austin College in Sherman, Tx, and was a member of the class of 1930 at Princeton University.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a former president of the board of the Page County Red Cross, and a former president of the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce. Biggs, Mary Kathleen "Kay" Fleener - Mary Kathleen (Kay) Biggs, of Clarinda, 73, died Sunday morning, March 4, 1990, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

She was born October 26, 1916, in Clarinda, the daughter of Otis Fleener and Mary Graff Fleener.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Elizabeth, and her husband, Jerome.

Jerome and Kay were married October 18, 1941. Surviving are four children: Mary Linda Biggs, rural Clarinda; Jerome Biggs, Jr., St Joseph, Mo., Major John Dale Biggs, currently stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., and Elizabeth Barrett Goehring, whose husband, Duane is stationed at Upper Heyford Air Force Base, England. There are six grandchildren.

Kay graduated from Clarinda High School at the age of 16. She was a 1937 graduate of the University of Iowa where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Brownlee, Anna Elizabeth Sulser - Anna Elizabeth (Sulser) Brownlee was born on her parents' farm northeast of Coin, Iowa, on April 27, 1915, to John and Edna Ella (Annan) Sulser. She passed away peacefully on November 16, 2014, at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, at age 99.

Anna graduated from Coin High School in 1933. She married Dale M. Brownlee, her high school sweetheart, at her parents' home on February 25, 1935. Following their marriage, Dale and Anna farmed near Clarinda and Coin, Page County, Iowa. In 1951, they moved to the home and farm they purchased in Locust Grove Township, Fremont County. On their farm, Dale and Anna raised cattle, hogs and chickens, corn and soybeans, grew a garden for many years, tended flowering beds and enjoyed seasonal displays of plants on the front and back porch. Here they raised their two daughters, Marilyn Joy and Kathryn Sue.

Anna's great loves in life were her faith, her family, her friends, her church family, her community and her home. She was a charter member of the Lincoln Luckies 4-H club in Page County, an organization that remained an integral part of her and her family's life. Anna served as 4-H club leader and completed many home demonstration courses through Iowa State Extension. The Brownlee Family's involvement in community and agriculture was recognized as a WOW-TV Farm Family, by the Shenandoah Chamber and Industry Association's Farm Family of the Year Award and induction into the Fremont County 4-H Hall of Fame.

Baptized and raised in the United Presbyterian Church in Coin, she later became a loyal member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church. She was active in the United Methodist Women and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She received the UMW service pin for her contributions and years of leadership to her church.

Anna loved to travel, visiting family and friends in all corners of the United States, as well as internationally with memorable trips to Canada and Europe. She possessed a sharp mind and life-long passion for learning through daily crossword puzzles, studying her Bible and frequently consulted her well-worn encyclopedias and dictionary--a trait she passed on to her family in encouraging their education and advanced academic and professional pursuits.

A gracious hostess, she loved to entertain family and friends in her home of 63 years. She hosted annual New Year's Eve parties, celebrating each year with a photo of those attending at the stroke of midnight. She greeted trick-or-treaters with excitement at Halloween, also photographed for her special scrapbook. Her dining room table overflowed with family at Thanksgiving, Christmas and reunions. Gatherings always included rousing and lively board games and playing cards late into the night. She enjoyed corresponding with many friends and extended family members through holiday letters and birthday cards.

Anna was a loving farmer's wife and the family matriarch--mother of two, grandmother of six, great-grandmother of nine and friend and grandmother to many more. For her children, grandchildren and extended family, she attended many band and choir concerts, stage plays, sporting events, 4-H presentations, church programs, baptisms, confirmations, graduations and weddings. She taught her family how to cook and bake and knew the story of The Little Red Hen by heart, reciting it at bedtime to each new generation. Her love of family was reflected in the role that perhaps suited her best of all, proud Nana.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents John and Edna Sulser, sister Ina Mae Wolfe and son-in-law Lynn Benson. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Benson of Sidney, Iowa, and daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Craig Harris of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren and spouses Rod and Kelly Benson, New York City; Kim (Benson) and Ken High, Holly Springs, North Carolina; Brenda (Benson) and Andrew Werth, Wilmette, Ill.; Rebecca (Benson) and Mark Ferley, Chesapeake, Va.; Shannon Harris, St. Paul, Minn.; Chad Harris, Prairie Village, Kan.; sister Arlene Gibson, Shenandoah; brother-in-law Bruce Brownlee, West Des Moines, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren; and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her favorite Bible verse from Psalm 118, verse 24, hung in her kitchen, "This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" Indeed let us rejoice. Let us rejoice and be glad Anna Brownlee was a loving part of our life, for as she always said, "I love you more."

Diggs, Elzene Clytha - Elzene Diggs, age 87, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Friday, October 31, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 3, 2014, at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Brian Bontrager officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Guss, Iowa at a later date.

Elzene Clytha Diggs was born June 15, 1927, in Page County, Iowa south of Hawleyville to Frank Elmer Diggs and Alta Jane (Hoffman) Diggs. She was the youngest of ten children. She passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa.

Elzene attended school at Bedford, Iowa. She was baptized November 6, 1955 by Reverend Clyde Kelly at Gravity Christian Church. She regularly attended the Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda. Elzene lived on her parent’s farm and helped them until her father’s death.

Elzene worked at the Shenandoah Sparks Rest Home in all three locations, Shenandoah, Clarinda and Bedford for six years. She also worked in three restaurants, “Little Diner”, Sump’s restaurant and “Ray and Peg”. Elzene worked at the Clarinda Hospital for twenty three years, retiring at the age of 70. After her retirement, she proudly cooked for her brother Harley.

Elzene entered the Goldenrod Manor on November 17, 2006. Elzene enjoyed embroidering, baking and clothes shopping. She never had a driver’s license and will be remembered for walking around Clarinda.

Preceding Elzene in death were her parents; sisters, Zella, (Virgil) Wiley, Beulah (Loran) Wiley, Lela (Ray) Wirth, Elma (Ralph) Schooling, Stella (Horace) Nickell, and Dorothy LaVaughn (Lowell) Dugan; brothers, Hildred (Phyllis) Diggs, Harley (Grace) Diggs, and Francis Diggs.

Elzene is survived by one sister-in-law, Rita Diggs and many nieces and nephews

Farrens, Ethel M. Frees

Ethel Marie Farrens, daughter of ward and Mary Lichty Frees, was born May 28,1914, at Oxford, IA, in Johnson County. She passed away Jan. 16, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. She was 82 years old.
Ethel attended high school in Oxford before going to work at the Oakdale Sanitorium. On May 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to Don Farrens. To this union, one son was born, Thomas R. Farrens.
During the first ten years of marriage, the Farrens lived in California and nine years in Eastern Iowa. In 1944, they moved to Clarinda to make this their home. Ethel was a homemaker and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and service chairperson for the food service. She was active in local community affairs, Den mother for the local Cub Scouts, member of Semper Fidelis Club, and the Home and Garden Club. She won several top honors in rose shows in Iowa and Nebraska, and also served as an official at the National Rose Show.
She was preceded in death by parents, five brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, son, grandson, John Farrens and wife, Brenda, Villisca, granddaughter, Molly, and husband, Edward J. Myers, brother, Robert Frees and wife, Mary, Iowa City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 20, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, with burial at the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Clarinda Regional Health Center Auxiliary. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Fullerton, Donald - Donald Fullerton
Donald Fullerton, 81, of Blanchard, died Sat. evening, Jan. 18, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
He was born September 21, 1915, at Blanchard, IA, the son of Lewis and Elsie Daniels Fullerton. On April 12, 1951, he married Esther Fecher, who survives. He graduated from Blanchard High School in 1933. He served in W.W II in Germany, France and Belgium. Most of his life he farmed.
He is survived by wife, Esther, of the home, sisters, Mable Hannah, in California, and Katherine McKay, St. Joseph, MO, brother, Thomas Fullerton, St. Joseph, several nieces and nephews.

Gambill, John Randolph "Randy" - .Dr. John (J.R.) Randolph Gambill Jr, 96, went home to be with The Lord on December 16, 2014, after a brief illness. His loving wife Lois was by his side. Born in Harrisonburg, VA, on April 21, 1918, he was the son of the late Dr. John Randolph Gambill Sr. and Alice Filler Gambill.After graduating from Harrisonburg High School in 1936, he went on to receive his BA in English at Bridgewater College in 1940. Dr. Gambill received his bachelor's degree in theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1943, his M.D. from the University of Louisville in 1946 and his L.L.B. from Chicago's Blackstone School of Law in 1958. Dr Gambill was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry, and worked in hospitals and clinics in the New England and Midwest areas. He held positions such as superintendent of the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda, Iowa, from 1967 to 1976. In 1976, he and his first wife, Wilmer, moved to the Des Moines area where he was staff psychiatrist at the VA hospital from 1976 to 1996 when he retired. He has served as the chief of psychiatry at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, president of the Iowa Medical Society, president of the Iowa Psychiatric Society, and in January 1993 was named a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.Dr. Gambill was a faithful member of Rotary and attended 5 International Rotary Conventions. Active in his church, First Baptist Church of Greater Des Moines, he has served as moderator for local area Baptist churches. He believed in serving the community and volunteered for the VETS clinic and read to the children at the library. He was a Past Master of Pioneer Masonic Lodge, Des Moines. He had many hobbies including gardening, golf, line dancing, Bible study, and traveling. An avid learner, he passed on to his children the love of learning and books. He lived his life with humility, honesty, kindness, gentleness, compassion, and integrity. He was a soft spoken, humble, and caring man of great intellect. He was a man of God who touched many. He accomplished much and influenced more.He is survived by his second wife of 21 years, Lois, daughters Martha Gambill Neely (John) of Des Moines, Sarah Gambill Tipton (Bruce) of Carlsbad, CA, son Paul Gambill (Carri) of Colorado Springs, CO, granddaughter Bethany Tipton, brother Kenton Gambill of Strasburg, VA, step daughters Sue Ingels, Jan Hopper (Don), Pam Humphrey (Redmond), Polly Haffner (Scott), and 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Wilmer, in 1990, son John David Gambill in 1991 (survived by wife Diana Morse), and siblings Aurelia Gambill, Emerson Gambill, Joseph Gambill, Victor Gambill, Florence Gambill Simon, and Hamilton Gambill. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Greater Des Moines, 8250 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston, Iowa, of which he was a member, with entombment at the Merle Hay Mausoleum. Geise, Barbara J., 16 Oct 1945 - Nov 11, 2014 - Barbara passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Barbara Jane (Edwards, Matthews) Geise was the youngest of three children born to Leo Louden and Lola May Edwards on October 16, 1945 in Hamburg, Iowa.

She attended school through the 8th grade between the schools of Hamburg, Shenandoah and Farragut.

Barbara then married Danny Paul Matthews on June 10, 1962. To this union two daughters, Sherry Ann and Cindy Sue, were born. Tragedy struck on December 31, 1968 when Danny was killed in an automobile accident. At that time, Barb moved with the girls to Shenandoah where they lived for 6 years. Barbara then married Gary Geise on July 13, 1974 and the family moved to Underwood, Iowa. After their divorce, Barb moved back to Shenandoah in 2010. Barbara went to be with her Savior on November 11, 2014.

Barbara had a huge heart for animals and always had family pets. Many of her childhood memories involved animals and she was always a defender of animals. Her children and family were her life.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Danny Paul Matthews, her father Leo and mother Lola and her brother, Leslie Edwards. She is survived by her sister Darlene Long of Riverton, IA, her daughter, Sherry Ann Schermer and granddaughter Cassey Schermer of Charles City, IA and her daughter, Cindy Sue Van Weelden, her husband Steve and their children Caleb Daniel, Claire Neva and Addison Ann of Pella, IA.

Gilbert, Aletha Marie Plautz - Aletha Marie Gilbert was born February 20, 1919 and passed away October 30, 2014.

Aletha was born in Minden, Iowa and lived around Avoca, Iowa. She attended school at Persia, Iowa. In 1936 she came to Shenandoah and worked in the Spurgeons Store. On May 19, 1938 she married Kimber A. Gilbert in Fremont, Nebraska. Aletha worked side by side with her husband in a successful trucking and grain service for many years. The couple and their business is well known by many residents in the Shenandoah and Southwest Iowa area.

Aletha was preceded in death by her husband Kimber A. Gilbert, parents Martha and Carl Plautz, step-father Glen Sargent, sister Henritta Holden, brother Eldon Plautz and grandson-in-law Michael Rausch.

Survivors include daughter Lavonne (William) Tripp, of Omaha, Nebraska, son Larry Gilbert, of Shenandoah, sisters-in-law Pauline Plautz of Shenandoah, Ella May Crawford of Shenandoah, Myrtle Richardson of Gretna, Nebraska, Lena Hewitt of Pensacola, Florida, granddaughter Kimberly Rausch and great-granddaughters Haylie Ann Rausch and Mandi Marie Rausch of Shenandoah.

No Visitation, Private services with family only.

Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.

Greenwalt, Doris "June" Purtle - Doris "June" Greenwalt, age 89, died peacefully on November 28, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born to the late Frank and Beatrice (Mullen) Purtle on December 24, 1924 in Westboro, Missouri.

June grew up in Westboro and was involved with farm life at an early age. She received her education in the Westboro rural school system. On December 30, 1944, June was united in marriage to Harold "Bill" Greenwalt at the Congregational Parsonage in Shenandoah. To this union, Deborah, ZoAnna, and Claudia were born.

In addition to raising three children, June worked for the Earl May Seed and Nursery Company and occasionally worked in the local community until she retired.

June was a member of the First Christian Church of Shenandoah, she sang in the church choir and was very active in her church for many years. She was a 25 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and remained an active volunteer in the community. She took great pride in following the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding June in death were her husband Bill Greenwalt (2002), granddaughter Janie Hagglund (2002), brother Merrill G. (2003) and Stanley (2008) Purtle.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah and Colonel (retired) Lloyd Keeton of Rockledge, Florida; ZoAnna McAdams of Omaha, Nebraska; Claudia and Chuck Brooks of Farragut, Iowa; and twin sister Delores "Jean" Dillow of Salem, Oregon. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Julie (Joseph) Cassady, Jennifer (Jeffery) Post, Jill (Mathew) Lofton, Anthony McAdams, Tiffani Caleb, Amy (Tyrone) Howard, Claudia (Jerry) Stokes, Curtis (Leslie) Brooks, and Craig (Lesley) Brooks; 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harley Greenwalt; and sister-in-law, Sandy Greenwalt; other relatives and friends.

Memorials in June's name are being directed to the Golden Living Center, Alzheimer's Unit, 1420 N 10th St, Nebraska City, NE 68140. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Greer, Walter "Jerry" - Walter “Jerry” Greer, age 86, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Walter Gerald Greer was born April 20, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa to Walter Gilbert Greer and Dorothy (Jaqua) Greer. He grew up in Bedford and the family moved to Clarinda in 1940. Jerry attended Clarinda Schools. Jerry served his country in the United States Army from November 1950 to August 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He served as combat construction foreman near Pregyangni, Korea, earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his bravery. Jerry was united in marriage on July 11, 1953 to Mary Katherine Rule at Manila, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Walter “Glenn”, Gary, Sharon, Michael.

Jerry worked for a farmer during school years and then did Rural Electric Association surveying around the Midwest. Upon his return from the service, he began working at Opitz Motor Company in Clarinda. He worked at Opitz Motor Company for thirty eight years as Ford parts manager. Following his retirement from Opitz he worked at Tri Tractor and at Case IH

Jerry enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping with his family. The family had some wonderful camping vacations to Minnesota, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and many weekends at Lake of Three Fires and Viking Lake. During his retirement, he enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle often times traveling to California. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them and would often include them on his trips.

Preceding Jerry in death were his parents; brother, Harry “Bob” Greer.

Hart, Shirley Jeanette Malmberg - Shirley Jeanette Hart of Shenandoah, Iowa, was called to Heaven on October 22, 2014 at the age of 79.

Shirley was born to Harold Vincent Godfrey Malmberg and Hazel Jessie Knight Malmberg on March 14, 1935, at their home west of Randolph, Iowa. She attended her first year of school in Tabor, Iowa, and then the family moved to a farm south of Shenandoah where she attended White Cloud country school. She was Baptized at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. Being the oldest of eight children, and the only daughter, Shirley helped her mother raise her brothers. She attended High School in Shenandoah, graduating with the class of 1953. She began working at The Security Trust and Savings Bank during her Senior Year of High School and then worked full time after her graduation. This is where she met her soon to be husband, Donnie.

Shirley married Donald Wayne Hart on June 10, 1956, at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. After their marriage, they became members of the Shenandoah First United Methodist Church. They made their home in Shenandoah, both continuing to work at the bank together. Shirley became a full time wife and mother in 1958, when their daughter, Sandra Kay, was born. In the late 1960's, Shirley began working at the Shenandoah Medical Clinic as bookkeeper for the physicians and then as nurse and bookkeeper for Dr. Kenneth Gee until retiring in 1986.

Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a hard worker, working from morning to night, but always had a smile on her face and loved to laugh. She loved helping people in any way that she could. She was always there for her family and friends when needed, putting their needs before her own. Shirley loved to travel, play Bridge, and read. She enjoyed painting as well, with her artwork filling the walls of her home for loved ones to enjoy. She also enjoyed "Girls Day Out" with daughter, Sandra, and granddaughter, Megan, in which time was spent shopping, talking, and laughing. She had more energy than Sandra and Megan did together and they found it a challenge keeping up with her. So many happy memories shared together.

Shirley was a Charter member of the Shenandoah Tri M's 4-H Club as well as a member of the Business and Professional Women Club for many years. She also served on the Waubonsie Mental Health Board in Clarinda .

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers; Ron Malmberg, Stephen Malmberg, and Paul Malmberg; Sister-in-Law Colene Malmberg; and niece Julie Malmberg-all of Shenandoah.

She is survived by her husband Donnie Hart; Daughter Sandra Hall, and her husband Michael of Coin, Iowa; Granddaughter Megan Hall, of Osceola, Nebraska; Her brothers Glen Malmberg, and wife Sandra, of Jacksonville, Florida; Roger Malmberg, and wife Judy, of Audubon, Iowa; Darrell Malmberg of Bellevue, Nebraska; and David Malmberg, and wife Dana, of Papillion, Nebraska; sister-in-law Diana Malmberg of Shenandoah and many nieces and nephews. "Until we meet again!"

Horton, Hazel Belle Kimpton
Hazel was born on August 23, 1905, and died on Jan. 9, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Frank and Lottie (Huss) Kimpton. She was born at the family home five miles northwest of Gravity in rural Taylor County. She attended the Antioch County School, and was baptized into the Oak Hill Community Church.
On Feb. 14, 1927, she was united in marriage to Felix Horton. They had two sons, Bill and Tom. They lived in Prescott, IA, until 1942. They lived in the Nodaway-Villisca area until the death of her husband in 1961. She has resided in Clarinda since that time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Tom, two brothers, Willis and Orie Kimpton, two sisters, Blanche Barcus and Pearl McCoy.
She is survived by two sisters, Maude Lawrence, Perris, CA, and Edna Syring, Anaheim, CA., one son, Bill and wife, Dorothy Ann, Clarinda, three grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Howard, Gladys Gwendolyn Ackerberg - Gladys Gwendolyn Howard was born September 8, 1923 on a farm 3 miles Northwest of Essex, Iowa to David E. and Laura I. (Johnson) Ackerberg. She passed away on Thursday afternoon, November 6, 2014 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 29 days. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Iowa.
She attended grade school at Windy Summit and Center Schools in Page County and high school at Shenandoah, graduating in 1940. After graduation, she was the manager of the catalog department at Montgomery Ward, then to Johnson Brothers Mill and the Evening Sentinel as Bookkeeper. On June 23, 1946, she married Jim Howard and to this union two sons were born, Dennis Leon and Stephen Lynn.
She worked at The Evening Sentinel again when the boys were small, until she and her husband started a sporting goods store in 1951 at 719 W. Sheridan. She would bring the two boys to the store in late afternoon as she would run the store while Jim drove the school bus route. Steve was still in a basket so both boys were exposed to athletic equipment at an early age. After two years at this location, they moved to 506 W. Sheridan. After 7 years at that, the bought McCloy Clothing Store and moved to the new location at 521 W. Sheridan in 1960. After buying McCloy’s, they closed out their hunting and fishing equipment and concentrated on men’s clothing and athletic equipment. Gladys was the bookkeeper and was in complete charge of the men’s clothing department. After a year of so they rented the ex-Tiny Tot Store building to the east, made a connecting opening between the two and displayed Sporting Goods in the new annex. In 1975, they bought the building at 600 W. Sheridan that was the McClellan store and fully remodeled it. In 1981, they bought out Goldberg Clothing, and again made an opening connecting the two buildings. About this time, they sold their business to their son, Dennis and his wife Darlene and her brother, Dale Sandquist and his wife Pam. Jim and Gladys helped out part time for a year or so before they moved to Arizona full time for Gladys’s health. After 18 years in Arizona they moved back to Shenandoah to be close to family and friends.
Gladys was an expert seamstress and made a lot of her own clothing. She was an excellent cook and housekeeper. In 30 years, the store had moved or expanded 5 times and lots of cleaning was involved with each move. If things weren’t up to her standards, she would usually end up doing them herself. She loved the clothing business and put in many hours at it as well as keeping a household in A-1 condition. She loved watching her sons and grandchildren participate in athletics when the weather and her health allowed it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim in 2012; a baby brother; a sister and her husband, Wendell and Verona Yates; and a brother-in-law, Ed Anderson.
Survivors include her sons, Denny Howard and his wife Darlene of Shenandoah, Iowa, Stephen Howard and his wife Cheryl of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister, Jan Anderson of Wuakee, Iowa; a brother, Leland Ackerberg and his wife Kathy of Essex, Iowa; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

Hughes, Douglas Charles - Douglas Charles Hughes, age 53, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 in an Oklahoma City hospital after a short illness. He was born August 14, 1961 in Clarinda, IA to Charles E. and Delores D. (Miller) Hughes. He grew up in Clarinda and was a graduate of Clarinda High School. He moved to Mustang in 1984 and attended OCCC in Oklahoma City. He was currently employed at BC Steel where he worked as a trim supervisor. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Survivors include his daughter Alisha Nash and husband Rodney of West Oklahoma City, grandmother Glenna Miller of Clarinda, IA, mother Delores Hughes of Mustang, four grandchildren Klayton, Kayden, Kamren and Kegan. Also by four brothers Dennis Hughes and wife Cheryl of Newton, IA, Mike and Mark Hughes both of Mustang and Bobby Hughes and wife Robin of Winterset, IA and by a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 6pm on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at McNeil’s Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma.

Hutchings, Beulah B. Hicks - Mrs. Beulah B. Hutchings, 89, of Clarinda, died Friday, Jan. 17 [1997], at Goldenrod Nursing Home [Clarinda, Iowa], where she had been a resident since March of 1992.
She was born February 2, 1907, near Clarinda, the daughter of Rufus M. and Ethyl Seavey Hicks. She graduated from Clarinda High School in 1925. She taught school at Bethesda [Iowa]and near Gravity [Iowa], and also worked at the Clarinda Herald-Journal. She also worked extra at the Auditor's Office. She married Russell L. Hutchings on Sept. 16, 1940,at Hollister,MO. They lived in several locations and returned to Clarinda for retirement in 1972.
Mrs. Hutchings had been active in Red Cross, Junior Women's Club, (Seper Fidelis), ABC Club, leader of a Blue Bird Group, Camp Fire Girls, and a longtime member of the First Christian Church and CWF.
She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by brother, Roland Clair Hicks and wife, Louise, Tucson, AZ, and nieces and nephews.

Johnson, Jo Anne Emerson - Reverend Jo Anne (Emerson) Johnson, daughter of Ralph Waldo and Rhoda Maxine (Deweese) Emerson, was born on February 1, 1931 in Lawrence, Kansas. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, November 6, 2014 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 83.

Growing up, Jo Anne and her family never spent a long time in any one place. Her parents were ministers, who held many revival meetings all over the United States, Canada and Mexico, known as the Emerson Evangelistic Party. Throughout her formidable years she attended 54 schools before graduating from Skidmore High School with the Class of 1948 in Skidmore, Missouri. Jo Anne was able to graduate in three years by attending Maryville College, Maryville, MO, for a summer which allowed her to skip her junior year.

Jo Anne's first work experience was at Hallie Reynolds Drug Store in Skidmore. From 1948 to 1949, she worked at F. W. Woolworth's in Maryville before moving to Shenandoah following her marriage to Melburn Duard Johnson on March 7, 1949. They were married in Skidmore and following their marriage resided in Red Oak, IA for three weeks before finding their "place" in Shenandoah, where they have resided for over 65 years.
In Shenandoah, Jo Anne worked for F. W. Woolworth and at Place's Dime Store. She also worked at Bonnie's Café and the Nishna Valley Café Truck Stop. She spent 15 years working for Shenandoah Agri Services before going to Ag Pro where she worked for seven years. At this time, Jo Anne was called into the ministry full time.

Jo Anne's faith was always very important to her. In 1958, she helped start the Mission Church at Sidney, IA (which is now the Gathering Place) and in 1968 she helped form the Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Shenandoah. She was ordained as a minister at Faith Christian Fellowship by Buddy Harris and was later ordained into International Pentecostal Holiness in Kansas. Jo Anne eventually would start her own church in Shenandoah for people who did not feel comfortable in regular churches.

Jo Anne was very proud of the work she did in prison ministry over the years. Many years were spent helping the inmates at the Page County Jail and over 10 years of doing 5th Steps at the Clarinda Correctional Facility on a weekly basis. For her work, Jo Anne was nominated by the prison and was awarded the Governor's Award in Council Bluffs by Governor Terry Branstad during his first term in office for her "Outstanding Service to the State of Iowa". She helped work with many drug addicts and reached out to those with problems right up until she became too ill with cancer and could no longer minister.

Preceding Jo Anne in death were her parents; grandparents, Rev. F. A. and Clara Emerson, Elmer and Mary Edna Deweese and Pearl Emerson. Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Melburn D. "Mick" Johnson of the home; son, Keith Johnson and his wife Lynette of Shenandoah, IA; four grandchildren, Brandi Lee Perdew and husband Todd of Manilla, IA, Alyssa June Haggerty and husband Conor of St. Paul, MN, and Cody Johnson and Keegan Johnson both of Shenandoah, IA; three great grandsons, Cooper and Carson Perdew of Manilla, IA and Emerson Patrick Haggerty of St. Paul, MN; two sisters, Pauline Cobb of Longview, Texas and Mary Pearl Olinger and husband Paul of Byers, OK., brother Roger Gorman and wife Mary Ruth of Oklahoma City, OK. other relatives and many friends.

Burial will be in Shenandoah's Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Jo Anne's name.

June Rosina Johnson was born July 13, 1916 at Prescott, Iowa to Charles Fredrick Walter and Emma Louise (Moser) Walter. She grew up in the Prescott area. She moved to Braddyville, Iowa when she was 22 years old where she met and married Bob Johnson. They were united in marriage June 24, 1943 at her parent’s home near Braddyville, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Robert, William, Daniel and Ruth.

June was a teacher in rural Star School. After the war, they moved to Oregon and lived there fifty years, in Klamath Falls and Tygh Valley. June taught school in Wamic, Oregon. They had a wonderful life with many dear friends.

June was a kind, gentle and fun loving person with a strong Christian faith and was treasured by her loving family and friends.

Preceding June in death were her parents; husband, Robert Allen Johnson; brothers, Alfred Walter, Russell C. Walter, Clair Walter, Fred Walter, Earl “Ray” Walter; sister. Dorothy Van Pelt; grandson, Steven Charles Johnson

Koenigsberg, Frances Lucille Dunn - Frances Lucille Koenigsberg, 84, of Sheffield, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014.
Frances Lucille Dunn was born on Aug. 31, 1930, in Clarinda to Francis "Miller" and Mildred Merl (Shaffer) Dunn. She attended Olive Branch Country School and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1948. Frances continued her education at Clarinda Junior Community College and Drake University.
Frances was united in marriage to Melvin Koenigsberg on July 25, 1958 in Clarinda. Growing up, she enjoyed 4-H. She taught first and second grades at Sheffield Chapin Community School. Frances worked at Cookies Etc., in Mason City. She took great pride in her family and loved to sew and quilt - making each grandchild a baby quilt. Frances enjoyed baking, working in her flower grardens, decorating cakes for special occasions and making homemade pies. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hampton and was on the Iowa State Extension Council.
Frances is survived by her husband of 56 years, Melvin; her children, Karen (Loras) Hackfort of Bettendorf, and Dale (Kristie) Koenigsberg of Johnston; three grandchildren, Alexa and Austin Hackfort and Jason Koenigsberg; sisters, Phyllis Fulk of Clarinda, and Charlene Stokes of Paragould, Ark.; brothers, George (Emma) Dunn of Jonesboro, Ark., Charles Dunn of Waverly, Neb., and Jim (Janet) Dunn of Clarinda; aunt, Helen Fulk of Des Moines, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and sister, Delores Billman.

Mildred Eldora Lacy, age 83, of Omaha, formerly of Nodaway, died Wed., Jan. 8, at the Ambassador Care Center in Omaha.
Mildred was born in Villisca, on Feb. 8, 1913, the daughter of Albert and Dollie Hunger. She attended country school in Hepburn. She married George Wayne McKinley in Nov., 1935.
In 1943, she and George took Constance Kaye Black into their home to raise. Mildred and Constance moved to Colorado in 1957. On August 5, 1960, Mildred was married to Christopher Leroy Lacy. They lived in Coming, Carbon, and in 1971, moved to Nodaway, IA.
Mildred had been living with Constance in Omaha since 1981, later moving into the Ambassador Care Center.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Constance McCueri, Omaha, three grandchildren and six great­grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, both husbands, and one grandson.

Lorimor, Mary Jane Carroll - Mary Jane Carroll was born on September 23, 1926 in Hamburg, Iowa; the daughter of Louis Eugene Carroll and Mary Adelta (Heckel) Carroll. "Jaynie", as she was known by many friends, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, November 27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jaynie spent her early years in Hamburg and Lohrville, Iowa. She graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1943.

On June 30, 1946 she was united in marriage to Walter T. "Tede" Lorimor in the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple resided on the family farm in Fremont Co., just a mile from Tede's parents. It was there that Tede and Jaynie raised their two sons; Michael and Gregory. In 1964 the family was awarded the WOW-TV, "Farm Family of the Week."

Jaynie was very active in the community. She was a member of the Farragut United Methodist Church for many years, a leader in the Farragut Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and served as a district instructor. She was also active in PEO. Jaynie and Tede always looked forward to their annual fishing trip in Minnesota with family and friends. The Lorimor Family Reunion every other year at the Lake of the Ozarks was also a highlight. She and Tede enjoyed playing bridge and other card games with friends. After her boys were raised Jaynie became an avid golfer. She and Tede traveled on a number of golf trips with friends to Arizona, Mississippi and Texas. She and Tede also spent many winter months in Arizona and in New Braunfels, Texas. Tede and Jaynie were blessed with over 62 years of marriage.

Jaynie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tede; brothers Donald and Richard; and granddaughters Dawn Carroll Michelle Lorimor and Katie Suzanne Lorimor.

Surviving are sons Michael F. Lorimor and wife Diane of Lincoln, NE and Gregory L. Lorimor and wife Jody of Tulsa, OK; grandsons Kevin Lorimor (Kathy) of Phoenix, AZ, Kasey Lorimor of Council Bluffs, IA; Scott Lorimor of Salt Lake City, UT, and Rob Roberts (Janine) of Lincoln, NE; granddaughters Sara Daulton (Mike) and Stacy Lytle (Joe) both of Tulsa, OK; 6 great-granddaughters; 3 great-grandsons, sister-in-law Shirley Schaaf (Stan) of Randolph, IA; sister-in-law Marie Lorimor of Shenandoah, IA; many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.

Ludwigs, Rodney Dean - Rodney Dean Ludwigs, 60 of Clarinda formerly of Stanton, the son of Fred J. and Lucille M. Ludwigs was born Nov. 23, 1953 in Red Oak. He passed away on Friday, Oct. 17 at the Good Samaritan Society, Villisca at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 24 days.
Rod was baptized and confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1972. Rod entered the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 7, 1974, and served a year and a half in Japan. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1977. Following his discharge, Rod went to work for Eveready Battery Company in Red Oak until 1986. He attended Metro Tech Community College in Omaha, Neb., receiving his associates’ degree in HVAC. Rod returned to Stanton in 1990. In 2006, he began working at Clarinda Regional Health Center and moved to Clarinda in 2011. Golfing was Rod’s favorite hobby, trying to golf every month of the year. He was an avid Nebraska football fan, fisherman, and really enjoyed all sports. Rod was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and a past member of the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 of Stanton.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Larry Ludwigs.
Rod is survived by his children: Janssen Ludwigs and fiancée Amanda Erickson of Stanton and Jamie Evans of Oakland; step-sons: Branden Bullington of Omaha, Neb. and Scott Bullington of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren: Emery Evans, Zoey Ludwigs and Jayden Ludwigs; sisters: LaVail Stafford and husband Steve of Wichita, Kan. and Renae Shelton and husband Bill of Clarinda; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Maher, Ann Marie Burkhiser - Ann Marie (Burkhiser) Maher, the eldest of seven children, the daughter of Gilbert and Thelma (Ryan) Burkhiser was born on December 18, 1943 and passed away on Friday October 24, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Ann attended Farragut Community Schools and graduated in 1962. After high school she attended St. Catherine's School of Nursing in Omaha, NE and graduated in 1965 as an RN. Upon graduating Ann worked at Bergan Mercy Hospital in the Cardiac Care Unit.

On October 11, 1969 Ann was married to Robert Maher at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. From this union six children were born whom Ann considered her most precious gifts in life.

During their early years of marriage Ann and Bob fulfilled their dream of living on the farm, where they milked dairy cows and enjoyed the hard work of the farm.

In 1975 Ann went back to work as a Public Health Nurse in Taylor County where she worked for 28 years. She renewed her love for nursing and caring for all those in need. She was instrumental in making new health programs available to Taylor County and WIC programs in SW Iowa.

One of Ann's proudest moments was when she was able to purchase her own acreage south of Corning, where she and her children moved to in 1990.
Ann enjoyed traveling which included several trips abroad with her family. She would spend hours looking at her world atlas dreaming of her next adventure.

After retiring in 2003, she found joy in providing care for local children who referred to her as their "nanny" - Ann loved them like her own grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for them.

In the summer, Ann would spend many hours working in her yard and garden. She took great pride in growing beautiful flowers, making huge family meals and baking dozens of sugar cookies at Christmas.

In 2010 she sold her home south of Corning and moved to Boone to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Even though she loved being closer to her family, she missed her garden, flowers, kitties and local neighbors.

Ann was a member of the Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; Gilbert and Thelma Burkhiser.

Left to cherish Ann's memory include her six children, twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Children: Julie (Kevin) Kordick of Boone, Laura (Mike) Davidson of Des Moines, John (Stephanie) Maher of Lillington, NC, Paul Maher of Des Moines, Amy (Todd) Krauth of Urbandale, Mark Maher of Johnston. Great Grandchildren: Gabriella Davidson, Anthony, Andrew and Landon Jones. Martin, Erville Maurine "Ennie" Pierson - Erville Maurine "Ennie" Martin, daughter of Hayden and Hester (Jordan) Pierson, was born April 4, 1928 in Sidney, Iowa. Ennie passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 86.

Ennie lived in Sidney, Iowa, until her family moved to Shenandoah at the age of 12. She lived in Shenandoah the rest of her life. She attended school in Sidney and Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1946.

Ennie was united in marriage to Harold Martin on June 8, 1946 in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Ennie worked as a telephone operator and at Henry Field's. Her most important job was that of "devoted wife and mother."

Ennie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shenandoah. She loved country music, working crossword puzzles, reading, and sitting on her front porch. She watched squirrels, birds, jet trails and anxiously waited for anyone to sit awhile and visit.

Ennie was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 2006, her parents, sister Maxine and husband Neil McClanahan, brothers Verland Pierson and wife Judy and Keith Pierson and wife Florence.

McNeilly, Mary Louise Long - Mary Louise (Long) McNeilly, the daughter of Orville Daniel "Bob" and Josie (Annis) Ford, was born November 17, 1917 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Gretna, Nebraska at the age of 96.

Mary lived her whole life in Shenandoah until the last five year when she lived with her daughter Roberta "Bobbi" in Gretna, Nebraska.

Mary graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1935. She worked at the Mount Arbor Nursery as a secretary for many years.

Mary was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Long on September 1, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska. They resided in Shenandoah until Bob's passing on August 18, 1965. On September 23, 1967 she united in marriage to Maurice McNeilly. They also resided in Shenandoah until his passing on August 31, 2006.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included knitting and playing bridge. She loved her friends and going for coffee.

Mary was preceded in death by her 1st and 2nd husbands, her parents, four sisters, and a granddaughter.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Carol (Wes) Westcott of Iowa City, Iowa and Roberta "Bobbi" Wehrmann of Gretna, Nebraska, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, step-children John (Diana) McNeilly of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Marcia (Ed) Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Donna (Ron) Roberts of Oelwein, Iowa, seven step-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and nephew Don (Phyllis) Holmes of Galena, Illinois.

Meier, Lorenz William - Lorenz Meier, age 88, of Shenandoah, Iowa, formerly of the Coin, Iowa area entered into peace Thursday, December 11, 2014 at The Ambassador, Sidney, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Nathan Dudley officiating. Burial will be in the Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

On March 31, 1926, in rural Page County, Iowa, just north of Yorktown, Iowa, William Meier and Rosa (Herzberg) Meier welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world. They named him Lorenz William Meier. Lorenz was the youngest having two brothers and two sisters. Lorenz was baptized on April 18, 1926, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and confirmed on March 31, 1940 also at St. Paul. His confirmation verse was Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek”. The heading to this verse is “Then Just Live by Faith” which is very appropriate, for that is just how Lorenz lived his life, standing firm in his faith, and trusting in the Lord through good times and hard times. Lorenz was proud to say that he was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Lorenz attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Yorktown, Iowa and graduated from the 8th grade. His love of farming began early in his life while helping on the family farm. Throughout his life Lorenz saw farming change greatly. He learned to farm using both horse and mule teams. He saw the start of small tractors and double row planters and watched farming change as equipment became bigger and bigger. But no matter what size the equipment Lorenz’s choice was always John Deere green and yellow.

On February 20, 1946, Lorenz married the love of his life Annabelle Couch. They began their lives farming north of Yorktown. Lorenz and Annabelle were blessed with three children during this time, Patricia Ann, Larry Eugene and Sharon Lee. In December of 1955 they bought a farm west of Coin, Iowa. Here they farmed 160 acres; row cropped both soybeans and corn, milked cows and raised hogs.

Along with farming, Lorenz began working for Soil Conservation in 1964 where his job was staking terraces and tile lines, helping the farmers to make their farming easier. Some of Lorenz’s fondest memories were of working at the Soil Conservation. He loved working with the farmers and contractors in Page County and made many life time friends through this adventure. Lorenz retired from the Soil Conservation Service in 1996 after 32 years of faithful service.

On November 4, 1994, Annabelle returned to live with her Lord. Lorenz stayed on the farm and after retiring from the Soil conservation he began to find new ways to fill his time. He loved gardening and raised tomatoes, onions and hundred upon hundreds of squash. Lorenz would have trailer loads of big white goose neck squash, butternut squash and acorn squash and gourds every year. The biggest goose neck squash he ever raised weighed 50 lbs and was 36 inches long. Lorenz would take this fruit of his garden in the back of his pickup to church to give away, as well as giving generously to anyone who wanted tomatoes or squash.

Lorenz had a very big heart and was always there to help anyone in need. Lorenz loved to tell stories about farming, working for the soil conservation and things he had done in his life. He also had a great sense of humor and was a great one to tease. But Lorenz could not only dish it out, he could take it also.

In his later years, Lorenz bought a scroll saw and started making beautiful wood work items such as Jesus fish, nativity scenes, faith, hope and love signs, accordion crosses as well as many other items. He liked to use native woods such as oak, cherry, walnut, but also started making some things out of recycled plastic. For the last 12 years Lorenz has sold his crafts at craft shows in Red Oak, Clarinda and Shenandoah.

In 2011, Lorenz moved from the family farm to Shenandoah and sold his farm in 2014. Due to declining health Lorenz moved to Ambassador Care Center in Sidney, Iowa on October 3, 2014. Lorenz returned to his Lord on December 11, 2014.

Preceding Lorenz in death were his parents; his wife, Annabelle in 1994; an infant brother, Alvin; sister, Alma Buesing Sunderman; brothers, Arnold Meier and Rudolf Meier and great grandson, Ashton Meier.

Lorenz leaves behind one son, Larry (Kay) Meier of Chickasha, Oklahoma and daughters, Pat (Roger) Gant of Clarinda, Iowa and Sharon Meier of Shenandoah, Iowa. He is also survived by grandchildren; great grandchildren; great, great grandchildren; his sister, Ester Smiley of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces; nephews and a host of relatives and friends

Meritt, Anna Christina Anderson
Anna Christina Merritt, 91, of Griswold, died Sunday evening, Jan. 12, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs,
Anna was born Jan. 24, 1905, at Haddam, KS, the daughter of Gus and Lena (Carlson) Anderson. She attended Weaver Grade School and graduated from Agenda High School at Agenda, KS. She taught school at Arlington, KS for four years before she married Ira Curtis Merritt on July 7,1926, at Salina, KS. After her marriage, they lived mostly in Kansas before moving to the Walnut and Griswold areas. She and her husband later operated the Highway Cafe. They also lived in the Braddyville area, then moved back to Kansas. Following the death of her husband, she moved back to Griswold to be near her children. Anna was a member of the Central Church of Christ and active in senior citizen organizations. She had resided at the Griswold Care Center for the past two years.
Survivors include two daughters, Wilma Selders and husband, Raymond, of Griswold, and Frances Cupples and husband, Roy, of Genoa, NE, four sons, Willis Merritt and wife, Lu, Dean Merritt and wife, Donna, Merlin Merritt and wife, Sarah, all of Griswold, and Curt Merritt and friend, Nancy, of Council Bluffs. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Lloyd Anderson, Clyde, KS, and Francis Anderson, Washington, KS, and one sister, Merle Lahodny, Belleville, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and a stepdaughter, Doris Kaufman.

Daisy Delilah Moseley, 83, of Friendship Manor, Grinnell, IA, died Sat., Dec. 7, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center of pneumonia.
She was the daughter of Alonzo and Willa Mae Edens Fann and was born Feb. 11,1913, in McLeansboro, IL. She moved to Iowa with her family and graduated from high school in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
Daisy lived for many years in Chicago, being employed in various position. The last of these was as office manager in a large department store. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the outdoors.
Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, (Ed Griffith and Tom Moseley), four brothers, one half-brother, two sisters, nephews and nieces.
She is survived by a half-brother, Joe McElroy, sisters-in-law, Pauline McElroy, Edris Fann, and Helen McElroy, many nieces and nephews, step-son, Grant Moseley, and three step-grandchildren.

Paben, Raymond Leroy - Raymond Leroy Paben was born June 15, 1942 in Nebraska City, Nebraska the son of Raymond O. and Francis A. (Cutler) Paben. He passed away on Tuesday morning, November 25, 2014 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 10 days.
Raymond grew up in Nebraska City and graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1960. Following high school he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 until 1964. He worked in building maintenance for an apartment complex in the Kansas City area for many years. He returned to Shenandoah in the late 1990’s to be closer to family. He enjoyed fishing and putting around in the boat. He was also a talented wood worker and model builder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Ronald Paben; and a nephew, Curtus Doiel.
Survivors include his children, Maggie Royal and her husband Daniel of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Gary Paben of O’Connel, Nebraska, Shelly Paben of California; his sister, Beverly Doiel and her husband John of Shenandoah, Iowa; a niece, Danielle Doiel of York, Nebraska; a nephew, Clint Doiel of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with other relatives and friends.

Potter, Florene Eloise Lacy - Florene Eloise Lacy was born April 8, 1928 to John and Velma (Killam) Lacy on a farm south of Bedford, Iowa. Florene attended rural grade school and graduated from Bedford High School in 1945.
She started working for the Taylor County Recorder before graduation and worked for the Taylor County Attorney, Page County Attorney and later worked 22 years as Secretary for the New Market Community School, retiring in 1988. Florene married Francis “Red” Potter on September 10, 1948 and one daughter, Debra Lynn, was born to this union.
They lived in New Market in the same house for 53 years before moving to Clarinda in 2001. She was a member of the New Market United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were camping, fishing, sewing, knitting, embroidering, quilting and painting. She loved wintering in Arizona.
Florene passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters Phyllis Holman and husband Buford of Kansas City, MO and Doris Jeffers and husband Dennis, Siam, IA, and one brother, Darwin Lacy and wife Bernice, Bedford, IA.
She is survived by her daughter Debra and son-in-law Richard Williams, nieces and nephews Donna Johnson and husband David, Lyle Holman and wife Linda, Tana Ross and husband Buddy, Brenda Ton and husband Paul, Wanda Gard and husband Dale, Marvin Potter and wife Betty, and Kevin Potter and wife Angie; and several great nieces and nephews.

Rahn, Kenneth Michael - Kenneth Michael Rahn was born September 22, 1963 in Clarinda, Iowa to Richard Martin and Bessie Mae (Davis) Rahn.
He graduated Clarinda High School in 1983. He studied at IWCC Clarinda then transferred to IWCC in Council Bluffs. He graduated with certificates in tool & die, welding, and machining. He worked in construction with his brothers and father in Rahn Construction. He also worked in various manufacturing businesses in Southwest Iowa in tool & die, welding and machining.
Ken met Melissa Brown in 1997. They were married May 18, 2000. They were blessed with a son, Jason Alexander Rahn. After he married Melissa he became step father to McCoy Baker. The family lived in and around Southwest Iowa and recently moved to an acreage near Tabor, Iowa, and Ken worked in Glenwood.
Ken had a lifelong struggle with alcoholism. In 2008 he completed the Omaha Salvation Army Recovery Program and this program resonated with him and he has remained sober since then. He received his 6 year medallion on October 31, 2014 from his brother James. He told James the last six years have been the best years of his life.
Ken passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 2, 2015 at his home near Tabor. He was preceded in death by his parents and aunt Ruth Rahn.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa of Tabor; sons Jason Rahn and McCoy Baker; siblings James and Brenda Rahn of Braddyville, IA, Nancy Rahn, Clarinda, Janice Francis and husband Bill of Clarinda, and Paul Rahn and wife Nancy of Clarinda; mother-in-law Cynthia Repasky of Glenwood, IA; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Kathy received a PhD in Family Ecology and Educational Psychology Counseling from Michigan State University. She received both her M.S. in Family Resource Management and B.S.in Home Economics Education from Iowa State University.
Her own career path was important, but it was the development of her students and those who worked with her over the years that brought her the greatest joy. She served as a teacher, researcher, mentor, advisor, and friend to many. Kathy retired in 2011 after 26 years as a professor in the College of Human Ecology at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Earlier in her career, she held positions at University of Illinois; the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services; the Child Development Clinic in the University of Iowa College of Medicine and Glassboro State College (now Rowan University.)

Kathy is survived by her two daughters Kari Rettig (Ben Moore) and Heidi Efner (John), sister Cynthia Dalbey Greenburg (Barry), brother Marc Dalbey, niece Jennifer Greenburg (Casey Stockdon), her cousins and many friends

Roberts, Marvin V.
Marvin Val Roberts, second of five children of Jesse Elwell and Mabel Linda (Probst) Roberts, was born Oct. 9, 1912, at Mt. Etna, Adams County, Iowa. He entered into rest on Jan. 11, 1997, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.
Marvin graduated from Corning High School in 1930, and worked in the coal mines in Adams County.
On Dec. 2,1936, Marvin was united in marriage with Helen Gindelsperger at Collins, IA. The couple first farmed in the Mt. Etna area, then purchased a farm north of Nodaway in 1941. In March of 1947, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Garry. Marvin and Garry operated the family farm until 1981, when Marvin and Helen retired and moved to Villisca in 1981.
He was a member of the Nodaway United Methodist Church, was active on the family farm, and loved fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cleo and Clesson, sister, Wanda Lundquist, and her husband, Henry, and brother-in-law, Harold Young.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Helen, of Villisca, son, Garry and wife, Colene, Nodaway, two grand­daughters, sister, Lois Young, Corning, sister-in-law, Reba Mitchell, Taft, CA., and eight nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tues., Jan. 14, at Wolfe Funeral Home, with Pastor Albert Baker officiating. Burial is in Nodaway Cemetery. Spinler, Glen E.
Glen E. Spinler, 41, of Clarinda, died Monday, Jan. 20, at Clarinda, IA. He was born March 24, 1955 at Maquoketa, IA, the son of Robert and Helen Warren Spinler. On August 7, 1976, he married Colleen Bruck, who survives. Mr. Spinler was a correction officer at Clarinda Correction Facility.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen, of the home, and three children, Dan, Valerie and Aaron, all of the home. Parents are Robert and Helen Spinler, Lost Nation, IA. His in-laws are Gerald and Velma Bruck, Earling, IA, brothers are Richard Spinler, Eldridge, IA, Roger Spinler and wife, Michelle, Woodward, IA, and Gary Spinler, Lost Nation, IA. Sister is Cathy Wedemeyer and husband, Mark, of Donahue, IA.

Strange, Robert "Bob" Lee - Robert "Bob" Lee Strange, the son of Oscar William and Mabel Beatrice (Smith) Strange, was born January 29, 1940 in Martinez, California. Bob passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at his home in Shenandoah. He was 74 years old.

Bob moved to Shenandoah at the age of two. When he was seven they moved to Kansas City until at the age of 16, he moved back to Shenandoah with his father. He stayed in Shenandoah, where he would eventually meet his future wife, Ida Neylene Dailey. They were united in marriage on November 15, 1965 in Maryville, Missouri. To this union four wonderful children were born: Robert, Jr., Doris, Curtis and Kathyleen.

Bob worked for Lake-Mount Arbor Nurseries, Earl May Nurseries and Crestland Co-op in Shenandoah. He was a member of Assembly of God where he was Sunday School Superintendent and Driver. He taught Royal Rangers and Adult Sunday School. He sang in the church choirs. He went out and witnessed to people with Brother Jim Volner. He last attended church at the Christian Fellowship Church in Shenandoah.

Bob enjoyed playing video games, watching football and baseball, visiting with family and friends. He also was a huge Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.

Preceding Bob in death was his dad, Oscar William Strange.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Ida N. Strange of Shenandoah; son, Robert Lane, Jr. and wife Robin of Shenandoah; daughter, Doris Dickinson and husband Kevin of Tampa, Florida; son, Curtis Strange and wife Julie of Red Oak; daughter, Kathyleen White and husband James of Omaha; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother, Mabel B. Hope of Brunswick, Georgia; sister, Darlene Curry and husband Lance of Brunswick, Georgia; brother, Richard Strange and wife Donna of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Sunderman, Emma Bredehorst -
Emma Sunderman, 91, of Clarinda, died Thursday afternoon at Goldenrod Manor, where she had resided since 1993.
Emma was born May 5, 1905, on a farm west of Clarinda to Carl and Marie Henneman Bredehorst. She attended Summit and Immanuel schools and high school in Clarinda. On Sept 2, 1925, she was married to Wilbert Sunderman at St. John's Lutheran Church, Clarinda. Together, they farmed northwest of Clarinda. After Wilbert's death in 1949, Emma and her children continued to farm and also had other resourceful means of income. She supplemented her income with door to door sales of honey, dressed and sold chickens to local restaurants, and raised puppies and delivered these to families all over Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, half-brothers, Charlie Joe, and Albert Otte, and half-sisters, Anna Kuehnert and Melinda Sunderman.
She is survived by children, Evelyn Herzberg, Dale and wife, Connie, Cecil and wife, Diane and Paul Sunderman, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Tompkins, Gretchen Anne Kleckner - Gretchen Anne Tompkins was born January 29, 1932 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of William Samuel and Eleanore May (Coffman) Kleckner. She passed away early Saturday morning, November 15, 2014 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 17 days.
Gretchen grew up and attended school in the Farragut area. She graduated from Farragut High School with the class of 1949. Following high school she attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville for a short time. On November 25, 1949 she was united in marriage to Kennard Theodore Tompkins in rural Farragut. This union was blessed with three children; Carolyn, Kevin and Cathy.
Gretchen worked numerous jobs. She was a stenographer at the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda for several years. Most of her working life was spent working alongside of Kennard. She worked with him as a secretary/bookkeeper at the Sherwin Williams Paint Store and later at the Ponderosa RV and Mobile Home Sales. She was a member of the Farragut United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She enjoyed her weekly trips to the casino, spending time with her dog and cats, eating and playing the piano. Her true love was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kennard; her son, Kevin Tompkins; a brother, Alan Kleckner; and a sister, Carolyn Kleckner.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Atterberry of Shenandoah, Iowa; Cathy Brink and her husband Paul of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason Atterberry and Tracy Peters of LeGrande, Iowa, Erin Atterberry and Chris Bopp of Olathe, Kansas, Jordan Atterberry and his wife Annie of Altoona, Iowa, Jeremy Tompkins and his wife Tara of Shenandoah, Iowa, Tiffany Hanson and her husband Kevin of Shenandoah, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Kate Atterberry of Omaha, Nebraska, Cade and Natalie Atterberry of Des Moines, Iowa, Hunter and Max Tompkins of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. Burial was in the Farragut Cemetery at Farragut, Iowa.

Whitehead, Dusty Lee - Dusty Whitehead, age 74, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Monday, October 27, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Dusty Lee Whitehead was born April 19, 1940 to Lee Whitehead and Shirley (Hughes) Whitehead at the family home near Clarinda, Iowa. He grew up in the Siam area attending Siam Country School and graduating in 1960 from New Market High School. Dusty was united in marriage July 4, 1963 at Siam, Iowa to Sue Underwood. They were blessed with one son, Mike.

As a young man and through adulthood, Dusty had a good work ethic, often times having two jobs at a time. During high school and following graduation, he worked at the New Market filling station, Skelly's gas station and also drove truck for Red Ball Trucking, Butternut Bread, Page & Hill Lumber Yard and Bill Orr Trucking. He was a mechanic for Clarinda Automotive for many years and in 1984, he opened his own shop, Whitehead Machine Shop. Dusty spent many hours at his shop helping his many customers with their car/truck/machinery problems and countless hours building/repairing/tweaking engines for race cars. His passion was late model stock car racing. He began racing during high school and continued to 1983 when be became a Tech Official at the Adams County Speedway. Dusty was a mentor to many young racers and was an Iowa dirt track racing legend and ambassador of the sport. In 2013, he was the first inducted in the Inaugural Hall of Fame Class of the Adams County Speedway.

Dusty enjoyed life; he loved to play cards, joking and visiting with his many, many friends. He loved cats and was a caretaker of many stray cats at his shop and home. Dusty and Sue were very generous and caring and had a close, strong bond with their extended family.

Preceding Dusty in death were his parents; wife Sue Whitehead; brother-in-law, Bill Rock.

Willis, William Riley "Bill" - William Riley “Bill” Willis was born February 10, 1942 in Eagleville, Missouri, the son of John Riley and Alice Leona (Street) Willis. He passed away on Friday morning, November 14, 2014 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 4 days.
Bill grew up in northwest Missouri and graduated from Tarkio High School in 1960. Following high school he went to work as a self-employed heavy equipment operator running an excavation business for years. He was a life member of the NRA as well as active with Ducks Unlimited and Whitetails Unlimited. He loved to be outside whether it was running his dozer or hunting or fishing. He also enjoyed traveling and his trucks. If Bill wasn’t working he could be found watching football or a western on TV. His true love was his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Windle, Richard K.
Richard K. Windle, Falls City, NE, passed away Sat., Jan. 4, at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, following a brief illness. Mr. Windle had suffered a massive stroke on Memorial Day in 1988, and had resided in a nursing home since that time.
Mr. Windle was the husband of Mary Lee Swanson (Rea) Windle, formerly of Clarinda.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delphine, and a daughter, Mary Alice.                
Survivors include wife, and three daughters, Rebecca Jane Hoover, Bartlesville, OK, Judith Schotz, Dallas, TX, and Linda Michel Windle of Lincoln, two stepchildren, Bradford Rea, Des Moines, and Yvonne Saalfeld, Omaha. There are nine grandchildren and one great­grandchild.
Services for Mr. Windle were held Tues., Jan. 7, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City, with the Rev. Robert Roh officiating. A rosary was held for the family and friends Mon. evening at the Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.

Woldruff, Marvin Wendell - Marvin Wendell Woldruff, age 94, of Clarinda entered into peace Friday, November 21, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, IA. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, November 24, 2014 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with The Reverend Mark A. Woldruff and Linda Reeve officiating. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Marvin Wendell Woldruff was born May 17, 1920 at Greeley, CO to James Woldruff & Amanda (Fine) Woldruff and died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, IA at the age of 94 years, 6 months, 4 days. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1937. After High School he worked for George Hall Oil Company and Weil’s Clothing Store. Marvin and Ethel Brummett were united in marriage April 5, 1942 at Clarinda, Iowa, at the First Christian Church. Later in April he entered the Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago, serving in Whidbey Island and Quam, achieving the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer in the Navy Air Force. He was discharged in November, 1945. Following the war he returned to work at Weil’s Clothing Store then joining the Page County State Bank in Clarinda where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring. He had a tax service for many years and was an executor of numerous estates.

Marvin was very active in the First Christian Church, serving in many leadership positions, including Deacon, Elder, Chairman of Congregation and 8th grade Sunday school teacher for years. He also served as a counselor at summer church camp. He was a 50 year member of the Masons. He served on the board of the Nodaway Valley Historical Museum.

His interests included roller-skating in his younger years. All of his life he enjoyed gardening, yard work, genealogy, family gatherings, card games, and woodworking. He was a very avid photographer taking more than 8,000 slides of family events, weddings and their countless travels. He treasured his time on the family farm near New Market where he significantly improved the land.

Marvin was the youngest of thirteen children. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant and eleven adult siblings; Ernest Loy (Ethel), Orie Elmer (Oneita), Clarence Glen (Edna), Cecil Guy (Mary), Elbert (Stella), Vera Clayton (Floyd), Ethel Neal (Billie), Loren Russell (Vesta), George Aaron (Roxa), Lois Elmina (Alfred).

Survivors include his wife Ethel of Clarinda, IA; daughter Linda Sue Reeve and husband Dallas of Kansas City, MO; son Mark Alvin Woldruff and wife Joyce of rural Central City, IA. Grandchildren Kristin Marckini and husband Scott of Hampshire, IL; Brian Reeve and wife Stephanie of Derwood, MD; Amanda Goodrich and husband James of Iowa City, IA; Carrie Alexa Heffling and husband Andy; Great Grandchildren Andrew, Matthew and Lauren Marckini of Hampshire, IL; Dylan, Chloe and Addison Reeve of Derwood, MD; Avery, Ethan and Lucas Goodrich of Iowa City, IA; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.

Donald Ralph Wymore was born June 16, 1952 , in Hamburg, Iowa, the son of Stephen Wymore and Eudora (Honaker) Wymore. Don was a member of the Missouri National Guard, The American Legion and a Mason. On October 13, 1978 Donald married Janet Carol Fine.
