Myrtle E. Anderson Mrs. Myrtle E. Anderson, 91, of Clarinda, died Tuesday morning, September 10 at Goldenrod Manor where she had been a resident since 1991.
She was born March 21, 1905 at Fairfax, MO, the daughter of Gilbert and Lizzie Mae Sawtelle Bloom. She was married to Guy Anderson. Mrs. Anderson had worked at MHI.
She was preceded in death by parents, husbands, and one sister. She is survived by a nephew, Paul Barchus of San Diego, CA.
Graveside services will be at 10 AM Thursday at Clarinda cemetery, with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating.

Bailey, Erma Dorothea Cazh
Erma Bailey, 84, of Clarinda passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 1996, at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on June 16, 1912, in Sidney, to John Julius and Cora Ruth (Frazier) Cazh. On July 1, 1932, she married Paul Bailey in Rock Port, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, and one sister.
Erma is survived by one son, Larry Bailey and his wife, Norma; one grandson; step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 31, 1996, at Rash Funeral Home, Hamburg. Internment was at the Riverton Cemetery.

Bain, Edna P. Nordyke
Mrs. Edna P. Bain, 94, of Clarinda, IA, passed away Thursday, September 5, 1996, at Goldenrod Manor Care Center.
She was born August 1, 1903 in Leon, IA; the daughter of Ernest and Emma VanWinkle Nordyke. On April 28, 1921, she was married to Leonard Bain who passed away August, 23, 1974. Mrs. Bain had worked at cafes in Clarinda.
She is survived by two grandsons, Steve C. Milleson, Des Moines; and Terry Lee Milleson, Red Falls, MN. Great grandchildren are Tammy Ribbey and Thomas Milleson. She is also survived by one great great grandson. Sisters are Beulah Davis, Leon; and Grace Argo, Reno, NV; and one brother, Oscar Nordyke, Washington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Harold; and daughter, Helen Milleson.
Graveside services were at
10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 7, at
the Clarinda cemetery. Dr.

Baker, Maxine Thompson
Mrs. Maxine Baker, 81, of Clarinda, formerly of Bedford, died Sunday evening, October 27, 1996, at Mercy Hospital in Coming.
She was born August 14, 1915, in Taylor County, IA, the daughter of Ira and Katheryn Pringle Thompson. She graduated from New Market High School and married Vernon Baker on September 16, 1936. They farmed in several locations and after retiring from farming south of Bedford, they moved to Bedford , where they made their home until moving to Clarinda two months ago.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, Vernon, of the home and one
daughter, Lois Baker, of Clarinda.
There is one granddaughter, Marie
Murphy and her husband, Ryan,
Coin, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Geneva
McAmis, of Maryville, MO. She
was preceded in death by parents and
one brother, Keith Thompson.

Barker, Raymond Edward, Jr. - Raymond Edward Barker, Jr. was born in Granite City, IL, October 25,1961 and died Sunday, August 18, 1996. Mr. Barker was 34 years old.
Funeral services were held at the Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs. The Reverend Gus Falter officiated.
Raymond Edward Barker, Jr. had been a resident of Granite City, IL for 31 years and a resident of College Springs for three years. He was a truck driver at Barker Trucking for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa, and daughters, Chelsea Barker and Stephanie Barker.
He is also survived by his parents, Raymond E. and Cathiann Barker, Pontoon Beach, IL; grandparents, Ruby Barker, Pontoon Beach, IL and Irvene King, Hanes City, FL.

Bell, 65, of Osceola, formerly of
Clarinda, who died Dec. 4, 1987.
Mrs. Bell was born April 9,
1922 in Clarinda,: and attended
school in Creston. On March 24,
1940, she married Richard T. Bell.
In 1941 they moved to a farm near
Osceola, where she spent the rest
of her life.
The couple had two sons,
William R. and R. David of
Osceola, and one daughter, Mary
D. Switzer of Akron, Oh.
Mrs. Bell is survived by her
husband; her children; a brother,
Clifford D. and sister-in-law,
Hazel E. Kerns, Of Paradise, Ca;
five grandchildren, and two nieces
and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, and brother and
sister-in-law, Wayne R. and
Dorothey Kerns.
Interment was in the Maple Hill
Cemetery in Osceola, while
services were held at the Kale
Funeral Home in Osceola.

Brand, Lenore Aron Church
Lenore Brand was born November 27, 1909, to Henry and Martha Helmkamp Aron at Glidden, Iowa. She was baptized January 1, 1910, at the Lutheran Church at Lidderdale. She attended school there and graduated from Carroll High School. She attended college at Cedar Falls and Morningside with a degree in education and taught school in Iowa and Colorado, she married Lloyd Church, who died April 19, 1968, and then married Oren Brand on June 25, 1970. Mr. Brand died July 13, 1977. In 1980, she moved from Worthington, MN to Omaha, NE to be closer to family.
She is survived by seven stepchildren and step-grandchildren, sisters, Alta Jones of Hancock, IA and Marion Wagoner and husband, Lee of Clarinda, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Brand died Saturday, October 12, 1996, at the Stanton Care Center where she had been a resident for the past six years.

Bridie, Jack H.
Jack Bridie of Clarinda died Thursday, September 5, 1996 in Clarinda, Iowa, where he had made his home since 1948. The son of Ardo and Irene Hetzel Bridie, he was born October 4, 1918. He attended Mount Ayr grade school, where he made his home with his grandparents, Conrad (Code) and Jennie Hetzel. He lived with his mother in Ankeny while attending high school, graduating in 1936, later going to Business College in Des Moines. He worked for the Hawkeye Casualty Insurance Company until going into the service during World War II, serving in the Intelligence Organization of the Office of the Provost Marshall. He worked for the San Diego Police Department after the war, until moving his family back to Des Moines where he again worked for the Hawkeye Security Insurance Company as an Insurance adjuster.
In 1948 the family moved to Clarinda, where he acquired his own insurance company until 1961. He then went to work for the Lisle
Corporation, traveling all over the United States as a sales representative, retiring in 1983.
Jack was very active in all civic matters, volunteering in many ways
for the community through the Church, Lions Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. Always interested in sports, he was instrumental in organizing the local Booster Club. He was the public address announcer for high school sports, as well as the Clarinda A's baseball program, and became affectionately known as the Voice of the Cardinals and the A's'. He was the emcee for many Southwest Iowa Band Jamborees, beauty pageants and sports banquets. Jack was well known for his love of music, and was called on all through his life as a vocalist. He was a member of the First Christian Church, serving as an Elder, Church Board member and always active in the Church Choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Esther (Westing) of Des Moines. He is survived by his wife Audrey of the home; sons, Larry and wife Shira of Clarinda, Lynn and wife Linda of Des Moines; grandsons, Jason, Des Moines, and Joshua, St. Louis, MO. Three step children and 6 step grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held on
Saturday, September 7, at the First
Christian Church, Clarinda. Rev. John

Cahill, Madelyn Rae Freeman
Mrs. Madelyn Rae Cahill, 74, of Clarinda, died Monday morning, August 26, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Cahill was born June 25, 1922, in Clarinda, the daughter of Orth B. and Alice Guthrie Freeman. She married Ralph Cahill in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1966.
She is survived by her son, Bruce, and wife, Sharon, Clarinda; sister, Doris Cline, and husband, Elbert, Clarinda; 4 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.

Carney, Harry R., Dr
Dr. Harry R. Carney, 92, former Clarinda resident died Sunday morning, Sept. 29, 1996, at Macon, MO where he had lived since 1992.
He was born Nov. 23,1903, on a farm near Adair, IA. He attended school in Adair and went to Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines and from there to University of Iowa School of Dentistry where he graduated in 1930 and went to Clarinda to begin his practice.
On May 23, 1934, he married Maxyne Moody who preceded him in death Feb. 20., 1984. Dr. Carney served over four years in the military and left the service with the rank of Colonel. He returned to Clarinda and his dentistry practice. In July, 1959, he accepted a full time general dentistry practice at Clarinda Mental Health which he served until his retirement in 1970.
Dr. Carney was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church,
the Masonic Lodge and the Clarinda
Country Club.
For the past four years, Dr. Carney has lived at Macon, MO to be near his son, Alan.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife, four brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his son, Alan Carney and wife, Sharon of Macon, MO and daughter, Sharon Mealey of Macon, Ga. There are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, at Trinity Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don Fisher officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be in Clarinda cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Presbyterian Church. Christensen, Charlotte Arendsee
Charlotte Arendsee Christensen was born January 6, 1907, to Albert and Grace Stanton Arendsee in College Springs, IA. They lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota until 1912, when they moved to Crystal Lake at College Springs. Charlotte was a lifeguard at Crystal Lake in the 1920's and graduated from Amity High School in 1925. She was married to Newell Jeffrey Christensen on July 1, 1928, and they moved to the farm where Newell had grown up and where they both lived the rest of their lives.

She died in Clarinda on October 11,1996. She was an active member
of the College Springs Presbyterian Church, several social clubs and an avid gardener.

Coate, Edna Cecille Griffin
Edna Cecille Coate, formerly of Essex, IA, was born in Red Oak on October 31, 1923, and entered into rest at Community Care Center, Clarinda, on November 2,1996. She was the daughter of Alfred John and Berta Edna Gibson Griffin, Emerson.
Edna attended country school
and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1941. She continued her education at Red Oak Jr. College, and later at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught country school in Fort Madison. On March 12, 1950, she married Morris Coate at the First Presbyterian Church in Red Oak. To this union, four children were born a son, Virgil Ray, and daughters, Linda Ruth, Barbara Ann, and Martha Jean.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, her parents and husband, Morris on Oct. 25, 1995.
Edna and Morris farmed until 1992, when Morris retired. In 1993, she became a resident of Garden View Care Center, until her health failed and she moved to Community Care of Clarinda in Sept, 1994. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Essex, and Madonna Circle. She was also a 4-H leader and member of the Franklin Grove Neighborhood Club.
Edna is survived by son, Virgil and wife, Pat, Emerson, daughters, Linda Lloyd and husband, Dr. Gene Lloyd, Shenandoah, Barbara Dammann and husband, Danny, Clarinda and Martha Tiemeyer and husband, Kevin of Shenandoah. Damewood, Darrell F.
Darrell F. Damewood, 68, of Clarinda, IA, died Sunday, Sept 15 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after a long illness.
He was born March 23, 1928, near New Market, IA, the son of Glenn and Candace Lathrop Damewood. He farmed most of his life near Clarinda. He served in the army from 1950-1952 in Korea.
He was married to Doris Harland on February 27, 1951. She preceded him in death August 23, 1993. On July 2, 1994 he married Shirley Farnum of Red Oak, IA.
Mr. Damewood had been active in community and church activities, including Sunday School teacher at Hillside Missionary Church, member of Gideons International, SW Iowa Mutual Insurance Co., and had been a member of the Clarinda school board.
Mr. Damewood is survived by his wife Shirley and three children: Denise Hoskins and husband Arlan, Mitchell, SD; Delora Jamison and husband Brian, St. Joseph, MO; and Douglas Damewood and wife Ana, Corona, CA; 6 grandchildren; father and mother-in-law, Merle and Pauline Harland, Clarinda; step-children: Jeffrey Farnum family, Red Oak; Jennifer Campbell family, Stanton; Tamara Martin family, Lenzburg, IL; and Randal Farnum family, Glendale, WI; brothers and sisters: Eula Bennett and husband Philip, Clarinda; Evelyn Cerven and husband Duane, Blanchard; Ronald Damewood and wife Maureen, Quitman, MO; and Darwin Damewood, Lansing, KS.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Doris, and brothers Eldoh and Carroll.

Drake, Margaret Hawley
Mrs. Margaret Drake, 97, of Green Valley, AZ, formerly of Clarinda, died Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Tucson Medical Center.
She was born June 20, 1899 at Stanhope, IA, the daughter of Dr. Harry C. and Florence Moore Hawley. She attended school in Clarinda and graduated from Drake University. She received her Master's Degree from Columbia University. She was a court reporter and teacher.
She married Dr. Don Drake, who preceded her in death. After Dr. Drake's death she taught at the University of Hawaii.
Mrs. Drake is survived by an
adopted daughter, Mariko Laabs, Tokyo, Japan; an adopted son, Terrance Brennan, Elkhart, IN; 3 grandchildren and 3 grand nieces. She was preceded in death by parents, husband and one brother.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, at First Christian Church, with Rev. John Clark officiating.

Funeral services Saturday for Esaias, 86
Funeral services for Emmit R. Esaias, 86, of rural Essex will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Quinlan officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m., Friday evening.
Mr. Esaias died Wednesday morning at Methodist Medical Center in Omaha where he had been since last Thursday.
He was born Dec. 3, 1901, in Page County, the son of Andrew and Ida Carlson Esaias.
On Oct. 11, 1922 he was married to Viola Griffey at Nyman, Iowa.
Mr. Esaias had been a farmer.
Besides his wife of the home he is survived by five children: Mrs. Arvid (Chrystal) Sandahl, Shenandoah, la., Mrs. Eugene (Deloris) Conley, and Mrs. Joseph (Wyona) Conrad, both of Clarksdale, Mo., Mrs. Robert (Neva) Summers, and Norman Esaias both of Clarinda. There are 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Sisters are Anna Nadgwick, Clarinda, and Edna Erickson, Shenandoah.
He was preceded in death by parents, two grandsons, Francis Sandahl and Charles Conrad, one brother, Carl Esaias and a sister Josephine Oline.

Funeral services for Homer B. Foster, 93, of Clarinda will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Fidler officiating.
Foster died early this Monday morning at Municipal Hospital where he had been for the past week.
He was born Dec. 7, 1894, near New Market, the son of Thomas and Elvina Hilbert Foster. On Feb. 19, 1919 he was married to Leota Bales who survives. They had lived in Taylor and Page Counties where they farmed near Gravity and Braddyville before retiring to Clarinda.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife of the home and one sister, Mary Foster of Mason City. There are three brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Gage, Wanda Campbell - Wanda Gage, age 80, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Friday, March 21, 2014 at Bryan East LGH Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa with Phil Jorgensen officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. Memorials will be established. .
Wanda Joan Gage was born June 10, 1933 in Clarinda, Iowa to William Orville Campbell and Ethel Belle (Harrison) Campbell the youngest of six children. She was a life long resident of the Clarinda area. Wanda graduated from Clarinda High School in 1951. She furthered her education at the Clarinda Junior College graduating in 1953. Wanda and Bennie Gage were united in marriage December 10, 1955 in Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Kerry, Jan, Mike and Julie.
Wanda taught country school for a year and also taught at Walnut School for a year. She worked for a short time for Dr. Ramsdale with most of her working career for thirty one years as a typist at Clarinda Company; retiring April 1999.
Wanda’s passion was her children. Bennie passed away in 1977 and Wanda raised her four children and was a wonderful mother. She was a strong supporter of all of their activities and especially enjoyed cheering them on in basketball, baseball and football. Family was her priority and the grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her. Wanda enjoyed being outdoors working in her yard and garden. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and meeting former classmates and work friends from the Clarinda Company for lunch.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bennie Gage (1977); brothers, Wayne Campbell and Wilbur Campbell;sisters, Opal Pratt and Delores Williams.

Gillett, Julie Margaret Eckenfels
Julie Margaret Eckenfels was born at Clarinda, IA on June 18, 1937, the daughter of Theodore and Wilma Clary Eckenfels. At a young age the family moved to Atlantic where she grew up and attended schools, graduating from Atlantic High School in 1955. After her formal schooling she worked at the courthouse.
On February 15, 1959 she was married to Luther Gillett at Atlantic. She was a mother and homemaker, and for the past several years had taught aerobics. She was a member of the International Rose O'Neill Club and the Iowa Kewpie Kernals.
Surviving are her mother, Wilma Eckenfels, Atlantic; her husband, Luther; three daughters, Anne Binns and husband, Eddie, Clarinda, Pam Schoenrock and husband, Scott, Atlantic, and Jacquie Gillett and friend, Derek Hotchkin, Atlantic, four grandchildren, one sister, Elaine Fume and husband, Dennis, Atlantic, nieces and nephews.

Goldsberry, Monroe Van "Ike"
Funeral services for Monroe Van "Ike" Goldsberry, 88, of Norfolk, NE, formerly of the Villisca area, were held on Nov. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, with Rev. Dr. Wm. G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 8, with Elder Richard Negley officiating.
Mr. Goldsberry died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1996, at the Stanton Nursing Home, Stanton, NE
He was born April 10, 1908, to Corbin and Helen (Van Deventer) Goldsberry at Mound City, MO. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1925. On Nov. 27, 1930, he married Catharine Negley in Clarinda, IA.
He had worked for Iowa-Nebraska Public Power since 1925, starting in Villisca and moving to NE, after being promoted. He retired as District Manager in 1973. He was a member of the Toast Masters, and active in the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.
He is survived by wife, Catharine, of Norfolk, NE, daughter, Mrs. Claude, Ann, Warner, Chesterfield, MO, 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Eva Croxdale, Alamogordo, NM. He was preceded in death by parents, 1

Gorrell, 92, was Swift employee
Ethel Mae Gorrell, 92, of Clarinda died Monday night at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak where she had been admitted on Saturday.
She was born Feb. 2, 1895, at Maryville, Mo, the daughter of Nelson E. and Goldie Wallace Gorrell.
She had worked at Swift & Co. for 52 years.
For the past 2 l/2 years she had lived with Mary McCoy.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Archie Higgins and Mrs. Ethel Lawson of Clarinda, and Hazel Cowan of Glenwood, and a sister-in-law Hazel Gorrell of Clarinda.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. John Clark officiating.
Burial was in Clarinda

Gray, Albert H.
Mr. Albert H. Gray, 83, of Clarinda, died Thursday morning August 29th, 1996.
He was born on February 10, 1913 to Pearl and Myrtle Gray on the Flathead Indian Reservation, MT. When he was two years old, the family returned to their farm home at
Clearmont, MO.
He graduated from Clearmont Missouri High School in 1930 and from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO, in 1936.
He coached for five years at Braddyville, and was in the U.S. Navy for 44 months. He coached 11 years at Clarinda and was a Field Sales Mapager for Walnut Grove Products in Atlantic for 13 years. He coached nine years at New Market.
He was married to Marie P. Peet on July 10, 1942. She preceded him in death December 26, 1982.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Lila Johnston.
He is survived by several cousins, nephews, nieces and his special friend, Millicent Guthrie.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 31, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Handorf, Jennie Edith Mitchell - Mrs. Handorf, 98, burial at Polsley
Mrs Herman (Jennie) Handorf, 98, the last of eight children of Charles and Lucinda Westfall Mitchell, died Friday noon at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with the Rev L P Fitzpatrick officiating. Mrs Joan Archer was soloist and Mrs Dorothy Mannasmith organist. Mrs Irma Nothwehr was at the register. Flower bearers were Mrs Verna Hughes and Mrs Irma Miller.
Casket bearers were Frederic Handorf, Floyd Handorf, Clyde Lawson, Charles Bramble, Bill Annan and Darrel Driftmier. Burial was in the Polsley Cemetery near Yorktown.
Jennie Edith Mitchell was born Dec 28, 1876, in Clark County.
At an early age she came to Page County with her parents. She was married to Herman Handorf on March 1, 1900, and has lived on the same farm southwest of Yorktown all of her married life.
She joined the Yorktown Methodist Church in 1892, and has been the oldest living member of the church.
In recent years she has been cared for by her daughter, Beulah, which has made it possible for her to stay in her own home until suffering a stroke and being hospitalized for a short time before her death.
She is survived by three children, Ruth Polsley of Coin, now in a rest home in Shenandoah, Beulah Handorf of the home and Everett C Handorf of Memphis, Tenn. There are eight grandchildren and 17 great -grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, brothers and sisters,

Hartman, Myrtle K. Gorman
Mrs. Myrtle K. Hartman, 94, longtime resident of Clarinda, died Sunday, Nov. 10, at Dalhart, TX., where she had lived for the past 6 years to be near her family.
She was born October 21,1902, at Fredericksburg, IN, the daughter of Joseph and Eva Lukeningbill Gorman. On Oct. 22,1921, she married Warren Hartman, who preceded her in death in 1968. Mr. and Mrs. Hartman farmed in the Clarinda area. When her health failed, she moved to Dalhart, TX, to be cared for by her niece, Virginia Wedel. She had been a resident of Coon Memorial Care Center for the past year.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Virginia Wedel, Dalhart, TX, Kathleen Byrd, Weatherford, OK, Bobby and Hugh Gordon, Dalhart.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, and three sons, Joe Dale, Eugene and Paul.

Haxby, Helen E. Brummett
Graveside services for Mrs. Helen E. Haxby, 91, of Winamac, In. will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, at the Clarinda cemetery, with Rev. Richard Quinlan officiating.
Mrs. Haxby died Saturday evening at Pulski Health Care Center in Winamac.
She was born Aug. 29, 1896 at LaFollette, Tn., the daughter of David and Jerushiah Eleanor Brummett. On Dec. 10, 1919 she was married to John W. Haxby II at Clarinda. Her husband preceded her in death in 1962.
Mrs. Haxby was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac, O.E.S. No. 96 and the Mother's Club.
Mrs. Haxby is survived by four sons, Dr. Richard J. Haxby, Plantation, Fl; Kenneth D. Haxby, Crete, Ill.; Donald L. Haxby, Boynton Beach, FL; and Robert D. Haxby, Oak Brook, II. There are 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Sisters are Grace Walker, Clarinda, and Lena Hale, Louisville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Haxby III.

Higgins, Maxine Norris - Maxine Higgins, age 94, of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into peace Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Westridge Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Celebration of Life Services will be held Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Clarinda. Visitation with the family greeting friends will be one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment will be held in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Nodaway Valley Museum.
Bertha Maxine (Norris) Higgins was born on February 7, 1920, in Clarinda, Iowa. She is the second of three daughters of George Edward and Bertha Irene (Gorrell) Norris.
Maxine was born, lived, and died in Clarinda. It was the only place she wanted to live her life. Maxine was baptized and a life-long member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Clarinda. She lived her Christianity quietly and steadfastly.
Maxine graduated from Clarinda High School with the Class of 1938. On January 14, 1939, Maxine was united in marriage in Clarinda, Iowa to Archie Raymond Higgins, son of James Marsh and Maude Mabel (Guthrie) Higgins. Maxine and Archie were blessed with four children: Edwin, Rodney, Janice and Chris.
While Archie enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, Maxine enjoyed housekeeping and taking care of her family. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed reading biographies, autobiographies as well as the daily newspaper. Family and friends have many fond memories of Maxine’s hospitality and cooking: especially her homemade ice cream; hand made noodles; and the multitude of salads at special gatherings.
In 1969, Maxine decided to work outside the home. She worked in the dietary department of Clarinda’s Mental Health Institute. She prepared the food trays required for residents with diabetes or on a low-calorie diet; a feat requiring remembering an ever-changing list of resident requirements.
After retirement, Maxine and Archie enjoyed camping in their trailer throughout the mid-west.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Ethel Lawson of Clarinda and Hazel Irene Cowan of Glenwood; and her husband of 71 years, Archie Raymond Higgins.
Left to cherish Maxine’s memory are her children: son, Norris Edwin Higgins and wife Anna of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Rodney Raymond Higgins and Jack Peltier of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter, Janice Elaine (Higgins) Dalbey and husband Dennis of Clarinda, Iowa; and son, David Chris Higgins and wife Diane of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Hoffman, Thomas Eugene - Thomas Eugene Hoffman, the second child of Walter L. and Rachael F. Hoffman was born September 14, 1959 in Iowa City, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday morning, March 15, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 54 years, 6 months and 1 day.
Tom grew up and was educated in the Shenandoah and Stanton areas. In high school he played football and basketball with his brother. He was married three times, most recently on July 13, 2006 in Red Oak, Iowa to Nancy Lee Westover. After high school Tom enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska before being stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas as a recruiters assistant until his discharge.
Following his service in the military he went to work at the Atkins Pickle Plant until he went to work for Willy Shaw Trucking. Tom drove a truck for 12 years and earned his One Million Mile Safety Ring. His biggest thrill was running into his dad while out on the road. Tom drove until his health forced him to quit. He then worked for Ironhorse Communications where he installed Direct TV until his health forced him to quit. He met Nancy and lived in London, Arkansas a couple years before moving to Red Oak and getting married.
Tom enjoyed sports, shooting guns, especially his cousins 50 caliber rifle, and traveling. His last trip was with his aunt to South Dakota where he saw the missile site in Rapid City. He loved to tell stories, watch westerns and the Arkansas Razorbacks play. He had a keen interest in learning American Indian History, but most all he enjoyed Nancy’s cooking. His most enjoyable times were watching the Blue Angels perform, skydiving and camping with his wife and family. Tom also had a passion for all dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Thomas Eugene Hoffman and Tonya Hoffman; and a special uncle, Jerry Lawrence.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hoffman of Red Oak, Iowa; his children, Michael Hoffman of Pocahontas, Iowa, Thomas S. G. Wm. (Bill) Humphrey passed away on October 15, 1996, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center.
He was born on June 5, 1910, in Seattle, WA, to E. Leo and Susanne Richardson Humphrey. They moved to Clarinda in 1915.
He was married to Mary Emily Downing on March 11, 1931. They had four sons. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Plumb Lodge #285, AF-AM at Siam, Highland Chapter #523 O.E.S. and Clarinda Chapter 29 R.A.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, 1 sister and 1 granddaughter.
Surviving are his sons and wives, Don and Neva, Clarinda, Dale and Jo, Indio, CA, Leo and Jan Irwin, IA, and Vern and Marilyn, Emporia, KS. Also 16 grandchildren, 30 greatgrandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, sister, Roberta Geer, Pleasanton, CA, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ingram, Esther Vardaman
Mrs. Esther Ingram, 82 of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Clarinda died Friday night, Sept. 13 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln after a long illness.
She was born October 30, 1913 in Page County, Iowa the daughter of Avery and Estella Fuller Vardaman. She taught in rural schools and was married to Hiram Ingram on June 26, 1943. Mr. Ingram preceded her in death. They had lived in Council Bluffs, IA for 30 years. Mrs. Ingram returned to Clarinda in 1973.
She has lived in Lincoln for the past 12 years, having suffered a stroke and going there to be near her daughter.
She was a 62 year member of Highland Chapter of Eastern Star at Siam.
Mrs. Ingram is survived by a daughter, Sharyl DeMoss and husband Robert of Lincoln, NE. Mrs. Calvin (Judith C.) Johnson, 51, of Clarinda, died Thursday morning, Oct 31, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha after a brief illness.

1965, she was married to Calvin
Johnson, who survives. Mrs.
Johnson had been a babysitter for 26
years.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin, of the home and two sons, Kevin Johnson and wife, Denise, of Shambaugh, and Corey Johnson, Clarinda. There is one grandson, Jordan. Kaili Morgan Jones the eight month old daughter of Trey Hawkins and Mary Jones of Smithville, MO, died Tuesday, September 10 at the North Kansas City Hospital.

Margaret "Margie" Kenagy, Brawley, CA, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, as a result of an auto accident in Temecula CA. She was born Feb. 16,1935 in Blanchard, IA. She married Charles Oliver Kenagy on Sept. 1, 1954 in College Springs. The Kenagy's moved to Brawley, CA, in 1973.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and LWML.
Survivors are husband, Oliver Brawley, children, Rod and wife, Monica Kenagy, Brawley, Steve and wife, Shawn, Norco, CA, Mary Kenagy, Corona, CA and Kevin Kenagy, Brawley, and 4 grandchilddren.

Grace King, 78, of Clarinda, died Friday morning, October 25,1996, at Clarinda Regional Health Center. She had been a resident of Community Care Center for the past two and a half years.
She was born May 14, 1918 at Clarinda, the daughter of Tom and Virginia Grimsley Holder. She was married to Maurice Russell, who preceded her in death in 1957. Later she was married to Willis King. Mrs. King worked at Parris-Dunn and later at several restaurants in and around the Clarinda area.
She is survived by a son, Lonnie Russell and wife, Barbara of Bedford, IA, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Maurice, brothers, Donald, Gerald and Freddie Holder, 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild.

Long, Ivan - Ivan Long died in Oregon
Ivan Long, 68, died Tuesday at Portland, Ore. He had a long illness. Services will be Monday. The Shriners, of which he was an active member, will be in charge of the services at Portland.

Luther, Marion
Marion Luther was born Dec. 12, 1903 to Ellis Henry and Cora Akers Luther in Taylor County on the family farm. Marion was one of nine children.
He had five brothers and three sisters. Marion died Sept. 23, 1996 in Bedford IA. at the age of 92.
As a youth, Marion lived in Trenton, NE. On Feb. 1, 1925 Marion married Erma Esther Ridnour in Farragut. They lived in Nebraska where Marion bought a dray line in 1926 and worked it until he was flooded out in 1932. In 1932 he moved to Iowa and lived in Taylor and Adams Counties. Marion, throughout his working years , farmed. He loved his angus cattle, worked the coal mines and did some. construction.
Erma and Marion, had three sons, Gerald, Glen and Richard. On January 18, 1952, Marion lost his first wife to death. From 1952 to the present, Marion had lived in the
Bedford area.
On Sept. 5, 1956, Edna Robey and Marion were married.
Marion's treasure was his family. His sons, their wives, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were near and dear to his heart.
Marion in his younger years enjoyed traveling and loved his horses. In his older years he did carpentry work for a hobby, played cards and enjoyed the family get-togethers.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Erma, three brothers and three sisters.
Left to remember Marion are: wife, Edna, son, Gerald and his wife Fannie and their four sons, Kyle and his wife Robin, Kirk and his wife Janelle and their son, Trevor, Kent and his wife Jes and Kelvin. Son, Glen and his wife Virginia and their three children, Cathy and her husband Tom and their children. Steven and his wife Leslie and their children and grandchildren. Jim and his wife Jackie and their children and grandchildren. Son Richard and Anna Lee and their four children, Alan and his wife Cathy and their caught. of 83.
She was born to Claude and Grace Savage Plowman in New Market on November 14, 1912. She married Eugene McAlpin on October 23, 1929 in Hiawatha, KS, She was a licensed practical nurse and was a member of the Eastern Star, Highland Chapter 523.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Bernard Plowman. Survivors are daughter, Dorla Eisenlauer and husband, Richard, Estes Park, sister Helen Lucas, Corydon, IA, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren..

James A. McKee, 95, of
Dubuque, formerly of Waterloo, died
Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Finley Hospital,
Dubuque, after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 17, 1901, in Braddyville, son of William B. and Mamie M. Hill McKee. He married Leonace Burrell June 15,1929, in Urbana.
Mr. McKee earned a four-year degree in 1926 from the former Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and taught for more than four years. He worked in the service store at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1966, and was a plant guide for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, R. Curtis, San Diego, CA, J. Stanley, Riverdale, EL, and Bernard Burrell McKee, Winnetka, IL; two daughters, Lavina Pattee, Alexandria, Egypt, and Nancy Wilson, Las Vegas, NV; 13 grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Esther Anderson, Clarinda.

Mrs. Cora Miller, 91, former New Market resident, died Saturday, August 24, at the Church of Christ Care Center in Clinton Township, Michigan.
She was born April 13, 1905 at New Market, I A, the daughter of Reuben and Ada Anderson. On Nov. 30, 1921 she was married to Elbert Miller who died in 1983. Mrs. Miller lived in Royal Oak, MI for the past few years, to be close to her family.
She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Roger (Dorothy) Jewett, Royal Oak, MI and Mrs. Ray (Helen) Merrill, Pass Christian, MS. There are 11 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

Ada was born January 13, 1919 in Yorktown, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Erfima (List) Muller. She married Carl M. Mueller June 30, 1938 in Yorktown. Ada died Wednesday, September 4, 1996, at her home in Cedar Falls, IA, at the age of 77 years.
She is survived by her husband, Carl, Cedar Falls; one son, Steven D. Mueller, St. Louis Park, MN; one daughter, Pamela Leahy, Independence, LA; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Carlson and Dorothy Sump, both of Clarinda, IA; and sister-in-laws, Elsie and Wilma Muller.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Francis, Walter, Herbert and Arthur Muller.

Nally, Blanche Cozad
Blanche Nally, age 87, Shenandoah, Iowa, formerly of Clarinda and Sharnbaugh, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah after an extended illness. Blanche was born Jan. 2,1909 in Atchison County, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie and Rose (Barnard) Cozad. She attended school in Blanchard, IA.
After her marriage to Vern Nally on March 27, 1929 in Clarinda, the couple farmed south of Blanchard,
IA until moving to rural Shenandoah in 1944. The couple farmed there for several yeas until moving to Coin in 1956 and later to Clarinda in 1963.
They remained in Clarinda until 1977 when they moved to Sharnbaugh, IA where they lived until Vent's death in 1991 at which time Blanche moved to the Elm Heights Care Center. She was a homemaker and worked for the Clarinda State Hospital and was a member of the Clarinda United Methodist church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her son, Dale, on Nov. 22, 1979.
Blanche is survived by four sons; Charles Nally and wife Maggie of Waterford, CA; Jim Nally and wife Marcella of Boise Idaho; John Nally of Tracy, CA; and Doyle Nally and wife Rosalie of Meridian, Idaho; one daughter-in-law Flo Nally of Blanchard, IA; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Carlson of Shenandoah and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Sept 18 at the United Methodist Church in Clarinda, with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Pedersen, Maxine N. Bull
Mrs. Maxine N. Pedersen, 72, of Clarinda, died early Friday morning, Nov. 8, at Clarinda Regional Health Center, where she had been admitted a short time earlier.
She was born April 16, 1924, in Montgomery County, IA, the daughter of Charles and Nettie Margerum Bull. In September, 1962, she married Arthur Pedersen, who preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1980. Mrs. Pedersen had worked at Page Care Facility and other care centers before her retirement.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 11, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, with burial in Clarinda Cemetery.

Pfander, Charles C.
Charles C. Pfander, age 80, Springfield, MO, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996 in Gentry County Memorial Hospital, Albany, MO, after sustaining injuries in a fall at the home of relatives in northwest MO.
Born in Clarinda, IA on May 14, 1916 to Charles and Marie Collier Pfander, Charlie had been a resident of Springfield since 1953. He received his B.S. Degree from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO.
In 1939 he married Claudia M. Swinford and began his government service career with the U.S. Weather Bureau.
He then moved into air traffic control and held various F.A.A. Controller positions in Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO, from March 1943 to July, 1953. Charlie was promoted to Combined Station/Tower Chief for the Springfield Municipal Airport, bringing with him to Springfield the first Air Traffic Control Service for the community in July, 1953. He continued his leadership at the Springfield Airport for another 25 years, culminating in the commissioning of the new air traffic control tower in July, 1978. He retired in December, 1979 after 40 years of service with the U.S. Government.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Catherine Pfander Leverington.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia, a son and his wife, Charles
Bruce and Deborah Pfander of San Francisco, CA, two daughters, Carol Henderson and her husband, James F. of Kansas City, MO and Connie G. Pickering, 46, died Sept. 23 at an
Albany, MO, hospital following a
lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 31, 1949, in Red Oak and was a registered nurse, having worked the last seven years at the Gentry County memorial Hospital in Albany.
She married Boyd Pickering and later they were divorced.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Pickering of Albany; two daughters, Tina Johnson and Tammie Pickering, both of Albany; her parents Marvin and Georgia Brown of
New Market; a sister, Vicki Harris of Clarinda and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m., under the direction of Roberson-Polley Funeral Home. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Memory Cemetery in New Market.

Vivian Maureen Brown Pickering was born December 31, 1949, at Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Georgia Corbin Brown. She attended schools in the New Market area prior to graduating from New Market Community School in 1968. She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in New Market.
On October 20, 1968, she was married to Boyd Gene Pickering in Worth, MO and they were later divorced. From this union, three children were born. She attended North Central Missouri College in Trenton, receiving her degree in nursing in 1989.
Vivian worked as a registered nurse at the Gentry County Memorial Hospital in Albany for the last seven years.
Vivian passed away Monday, September 23, at the Gentry County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness from melanoma cancer.
Survivors include a son, Stephen Gale Pickering and wife, Tina, two daughters, Tina Michelle Johnson (and Randy Sweat), and Tammie Gene Pickering (and Wayne Miller). Grandchildren are Dusty and Dakota Johnson, Dameon and Hunter Sweat, Shonne Moad, Brett Miller and Whitney Pickering all of Albany.
She is also survived by her parents, Marvin and Georgia Brown of New Market and a sister, Vicki Harris and husband, Al of Clarinda, three nieces and one nephew. Also left to mourn are Emory and Ethel Pickering of Worth, MO and a host of relatives and friends.
Vivian was a special mother, grandmother, daughter and sister and a friend to many. She was especially dedicated to her profession and the hospital where she worked.

Racine, Charles Eugene - Charles Eugene Racine of Lyons, CO passed away Sept. 27, 1996, at the Applewood Living Center in Longmont, CO at the age1 of 81.
He was born May 31, 1915 in Page County, IA. During WW II, Gene was a test pilot for Goodyear in Akron, OH. He then flew commercially for the May Seed Co in IA. He was also a flight instructor. Gene came to the Longmont/Lyons, CO area in 1965 from IA. He loved to
fly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert L. Racine and Mary Edith Shelby Racine and one brother, Blaine Racine.

Rosacrans, Ella Malissa Mitcheltree - Ella Malissa Rosecrans, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Mitcheltree, was born December 11, 1861, in Porttage County, Wis, and passed away July 24, 1945, aged 83 years, 7 months and 13 days. When 3 years of age she came to Iowa with her family, who settled in Hawleyville. In 1882 she was married to Jacob Hurst. To this union six sons and one daughter were born Don and Frank of Clarinda, Goldie of Boise, Idaho, Guy of Villisca, Leo and Basil of Centerville, Iowa, and John at home.
June 1, 1920, she was married to Oliver Rosecrans, who preceded her in death September 5, 1943.
When 16 years old she joined her Lord in baptism and affiliated with the Methodist church, in which she was a firm believer. She was kind and loving always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.
Services were held at the Walker Funeral Home Friday, July 27, by Rev Alfred Hunter, District superintendent of the Free Methodist church. Music was furnished by Miss Aletha Hutchings and Mrs Doris Forbes. Pallbearers were Loyd Lines, James Hoag, Charles Wynn, Dwight Pierce, Fred Gustafson and Robert Wilcox. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Kaitlynn Starr Schebaum, 6 month old daughter of Donald Edwin Schebaum, Jr. and Sarah Frances Hickman of Clarinda, IA, died at Children's Hospital in Omaha, NE, where she had been since being born on April 12, 1996.
Kaitlynn is survived by her parents of Clarinda, 2 brothers, Dustin Levi Schebaum of Coming and Scott Lee Hickman of Georgia, a sister, Jasmine Nichole Hickman of Georgia, grandparents, Beverly Focken of Georgia, Russell Gene Benton Sr. of Georgia, Catherine Louise Culbertson, Shenandoah, and Kenneth Eugene Culbertson. Aileen Schneider, Longmont, CO, passed away Saturday, August 24, 1996, at her home. She was 62.
Mrs. Schneider was a retired homemaker. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the hospital auxiliary, Boulder County Extension program, and was a leader and trainer with the Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Longmont Art Guild for a number of years, holding various offices during her membership.
She loved art and had become an accomplished artist. She also enjoyed traveling, having traveled extensively the past few years. She moved to Longmont, CO, in 1952 from Iowa.
Born on December 31, 1933, in College Springs, she was the daughter of Walter Harper and Mary Wood Harper. She married Leland "Lindy" Schneider on May 27, 1953, in Longmont, CO.
Mrs. Schneider was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Don Harland.
Survivors include one son, James Schneider and his wife, Stephanie, Longmont, CO; three daughters, Cheryl Koenig and her husband, Mark; Teresa Tomlinson and her husband, Mike, all of Longmont, CO; Linda Thompson ,and her husband, Steve, Berthoud, CO. Schrader, L. Maxine Walters - Lola Maxine Schrader was born November 29, 1925 in Guss, Iowa, the daughter of George Wesley and Violet Mae (Gray) Walters. She passed away on Thursday evening, March 6, 2014 at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Maxine grew up in the Villisca area and graduated from Villisca High School. She later attended Clarinda Junior College for two years. On June 11, 1945 she was united in marriage to Kendall D. Schrader in Lyman, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Mike and Janet.
Maxine taught school at Frog Pond School for several years. She then stayed home and raised her children and working on the farm before going to work for Hy-Vee in Villisca. After moving to Shenandoah, she worked for Krieglers Office Supply. She was a member of the United Methodist Church both at Guss and Shenandoah. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and caring for her flowers. Her true love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kendall in 2009.

Scofield, Ellis
Ellis Scofield was born April 27, 1922 in Taylor county. He was the son of Glen Douglas and Vinnie Elizabeth Johnson Scofield. He passed away October 6, 1996, at the Shenandoah Hospital. He was married to Joanne Wyckoff on June 13, 1957. Ellis spent most of his younger years in the Gravity area.
He graduated from Gravity High School. After spending two years in the Army, he returned to the Gravity area. When he married, he moved to Clarinda. He worked for Iowa Power from 1953 until his retirement in April, 1987. He was a member of the Gravity American Legion.
He is survived by his wife,
Joanne and two sons, Douglas of Ames and Michael of Clarinda, one brother, George of Gravity and two sisters, Rose Hardisty of Gravity and Myrtle Squier of Tarkio, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 1996 at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery. Shonka, Margaret R. Blazek
Margaret R. Shonka, the daughter of Victor and Barbara (Kessler) Blazek was born January 16, 1913, at Creston, Iowa. She died suddenly on Thursday, October 3, 1996, at Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha, NE., at the age of 83 years old.
She was raised and graduated from high school at Creston, and then attended nurses training at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs. She was united in marriage to Dr. Thomas E. Shonka on May 15,1934, at Creston. They lived in Malvern from 1934 until 1960, when they moved to Clarinda. After Dr. Shonka retired in 1979, they moved to Red Oak. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Red Oak and American Legion Auxiliary of Malvern. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Margaret is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara, (Mrs. Daniel) Phelps of Red Oak, Mary Jean (Mrs. Lavern) Alberts of Denison and Judy (Mrs. Eldon) Kline of Eckert, CO; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Resurrection was held Monday, October 7, 1996, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Oak with Father Wm Kautzky officiating. Burial is in the Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.

Mrs. Elizabeth Slough, 78 of
Clarinda died Thursday afternoon, October 3, at Clarinda Regional Health Center.
She was born October 18, 1917, near Elmo, MO the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Emma Melvina Crawford McIntosh. On April 14, 1937 she married William S. Slough Sr. who preceded her in death December 11, 1987. Mr. and Mrs. Slough had farmed southwest of College Springs. She has lived at
Clar Haven since 1991.
Mrs. Slough was preceded in death by parents, husband, sister Neva Clayton, brother, Roy McIntosh, half brother, Bennie Wilson and half sister, Susie Slough. She is survived by three children: William Slough and wife, Judy, Blanchard, Louise Jones and husband, Robert, Ocala, FL and James Slough and wife, Dee, Clarinda. There are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Slough, William S.
Slough, 90, was W.W.I veteran
William S. Slough Sr., 90, of rural Blanchard died Friday morning at his home after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1896, in Buchanan Township, the son of Oren and Martha Little Slough.
On April 14, 1937 he was married to Elizabeth McIntosh who survives.
Mr. Slough was a farmer and W.W. I veteran.
Besides his wife of the home he is survived by three children; William R. Slough, Blanchard; Mrs. Robert (Louise) Jones, Alexandria, Va.; and James Slough, Clarinda. There are nine grandchildren. Ray Slough of Shenandoah is a brother.
He was preceded in death by parents, three sisters, two half brothers and one half sister.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at the College Springs Presbyterian Church with Rev. Leon LeBuda.

Mrs. Arlene Anne Spangler, 67 of Manilla, IA died early Friday morning, May 2nd at Mercy hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness. She was born September 30, 1929 at Clarinda, IA, the daughter of Archie and Florence Nash Burton. On July 16, 1949 she married Robert Spangler who survives. Mrs. Spangler was a homemaker and enjoyed working with crafts. She is survived by her husband Robert of the home at Manilla and two children: Audrey Dukes and husband Curtis, Kent, IA and James Spangler and friend Betty Karas, Creston, IA. There are two granddaughters: Vanessa and Veronica Dukes. Mrs. Spangler was preceded in death by parents and sister Shirley Hanson.

He was born September 25, 1935, in Taylor County, the son of Floyd and Edna Dailey Sprague. He attended country school and graduated from New Market High School in 1954. He farmed for 5 years and
then went into the trucking business. He lived in Lincoln, NE, and moved to Hastings in 1973, where he was owner/operator of Sprague Tracking. He was a member of the Siam Church of Christ since 1947. He was preceded m death by his mother.

Marjorie Standage, 92, Loveland, CO, died Oct. 19,1996, of declining health at North Shore manor Health Care Center.
She was bom March 22,1904, in Shambaugh, IA, to Salomon Huddle and Minnie Bell Wood Huddle. She married William G. Standage on Feb. 27,1924.
She and her husband came to
Loveland from Grand Lake in 1944.
She was a homemaker. She is survived by sister, Mary Fuhr, Longmont, CO, daughters-in-law, Barbara Standage, FL, Ruby Standage, Denver, eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on Nov. 4, 1982, sons, William B. Standage and Robert G. Standage, and daughter, Betty Belisle.
Cremation has been conducted with private family services. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins.

Louis
Edward Louis Steeve, 90, died Monday at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak.
He was born Apr. 3, 1892 near Clarinda, a son of John and Leasetta (Hartstack) Steeve. He attended school in rural Page County and graduated from Concordia Teachers' College at Seward, Ne, in 1915. He taught parochial school in Linn, Ks, for about 10 years.
On Feb. 15, 1925 he married Marie Peters of Linn, Ks, and the couple farmed northwest of Clarinda until May, 1975 when they both moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak.
Mr. Steeve was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, two brothers, Robert and Otto and one sister Emma.
Survivors include a daughter Arlene and her husband Gerhard Dammel; three sisters, Esther Meyer of Clarinda, Frances Stedman of Yorba Linda, Ca, and Lorina Paul of Clear Lake; two brothers, Hugo and Walter, both of Clarinda and three grandchildren.
At the time of his death Mr. Steeve was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Clarinda.
Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church this Thursday morning with the Rev. Gary Arp officiating. Mrs. Lowell Barr was at the register. Lois Buch served as organist, and ushers were Byron Barr and Cecil Wagoner. Pallbearers were Andrew Dammel, Peter Dammel, Orie Steeve, Lowell Barr and Arnold Meyer.
Burial was at the church cemetery with arrangements made
by Walker-Merrick Funeral Home.

Stevens, Verna Pearl Turnbull Gibson
Verna Pearl Stevens, age 87, a resident of Centralia, WA for 50 years, died on Thursday, August 22, 1996 at her home. Mrs. Stevens originally came from Iowa, where
she had lived for 38 years.
She was born December 19, 1908 in Elmo, MO to Thomas and Iva (Willcox) Turnbull.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerome Gibson, in 1955; by her second husband, Hop Stevens, in 1983; and by her son, Ray Gibson, in 1992.
She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Bussert, Mt. Vernon, WA, and Marian J. Reiff, Covina, CA; a son, David R. Gibson, Centralia, WA; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Sunderman, Daisy Irene Elrick Eickemeyer -
Daisy Irene Sunderman, 93, died Friday at the Bethesda Care Center in Clarinda where she had resided since 1976.
She was born on May 17, 1889 at Coin, a daughter of Dr. Scott M. and Mary (Sullivan) Elrick.
On Jan. 1, 1910 she was married to Louis Philip Eickemeyer, and the couple have five children.
She lived in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming and operated her own restaurant and hotel in Cheyenne, Wy, for many years. She returned to Iowa in 1945 and operated her own farm until 1949 when she married Adolf Sunderman.
Preceding her in death are husbands Louis and Adolf, a daughter Dorothy Nichols, one stepson Lorenz Sunderman and four sisters Leona Fastenau, Jennie Fastenau, Grace Wagaman and Delia Fishell and one brother Fred Elrick.
Survivors include children Scottie and Bobbie Eickemeyer of Clarinda, Harry of Scottsdale, Az, and Doris Coppom of Woodland, Ca, step-children Erna Nothwehr, Violet Holste and Marie Eitzen, two daughters-in-law, Wanda and Violet, one son-in-law L.A. Coppom and a step-daughter-in-law Beulah Sunderman. She also leaves one surviving sister Wilma McNerney of Coin and one sister-in-law Edith Elrick of Illinois. A number of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held this Monday morning at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Arp officiating. Jay Dee Eickemeyer was organist, and Beulah Sunderman was at the register. Ushers were Byron Barr and Joe Sunderman. Casket bearers were Scottie, Bobbie, Curtis Eickemeyer, L.A. Coppom and Lyle Eden.

Vogel, Leonard Ray
Leonard Ray Vogel was born February 25, 1940 to Leonard and Anna (Bilby) Vogel in Clarinda, IA. He was welcomed into God's presence August 28, 1996 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 56.
Raised on a farm near Coin, Ray learned the importance of hard work, close family relationships and good livestock care.
Following high school graduation from Coin High School he spent
three years in the Army at the Chicago Nike Missile Site. He took great interest in the care and handling of the military dogs, and decided to become a Veterinarian.
In 1968 he graduated with his D.V M. degree from Iowa State University and on July 13, 1968 he married Sue Ellen Price in Shell Rock, Iowa. They were blessed with two children.
Ray's first three years of practice were spent in Ft. Madison, Iowa and Wapello, Iowa. In 1971 they moved to Fontanelle, Iowa and he began twenty five years of practice in the Adair County area. Eventually he built the Adair County Veterinary Clinic in Greenfield, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Fontanelle; daughter, Kristi and husband, Matt Candlish, Ankeny; son, Ryan, at home; parents, Leonard and Anna Vogel, Villisca; mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Jean Price, Shell Rock; two brothers, Ronald and wife, Feather, Iowa City, and Roger and wife, Mary, and four children, Dublin, OH; two brothers-in-law, Paul Price and wife, Tricia, and son of Norcross, Georgia, and Scott and wife, Janice, and three children, Dunlap, IL; one sister-in-law, Dianne, and husband, Roberto Andrino, and four children, Gautemala City, Gautemala; ; other relatives and many friends. Bethesda burial for Mrs Wagaman
Mrs Ed (Grace) Wagaman, 82, died early Tuesday at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, and services were being held this Thursday at Villisca. Burial was to be in the cemetery at the Bethesda Lutheran Church.
She was born Sept 6, 1892, in Page County to Scott M and Mary B Sullivan Elrich. The family home was on the old Sullivan farm south of Hepburn. Two surviving sisters are Mrs Adolph (Daisy) Sunderman of Clarinda and Mrs Charles (Wilma) McNerney of Coin. Her husband and step-daughter, Mrs Margaret Geer of Red Oak, survive her.
She was preceded in death by husbands Victor Boo and Albert Hartstack. She was telephone operator for several years at Hepburn. Her death was result of cancer, but the illness was only a few days.

Webb, Rena Houchin Schrodt
Mrs. Rena Webb, 94, of Clarinda, died Monday, October 14, 1996, at Community Care Center.
She was born September 20,1902, the daughter of James William and Mary Ellen Ellis Houchin. She was married to Charles Schrodt on April 22, 1921. He preceded her in death November 29, 1942. In 1949, she married Archie Webb, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Webb had worked at Parris-Dunn and a local cafe.
She was preceded in death by parents, husbands, son, James and Lewis, and his wife, Evelyn, son in laws, Russell Goff and Gerald Sollars, infant daughter, 3 grandchildren, and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Ida Ellen Goff, Council Bluffs, IA, Mary Susan Sollars, Lansing, KS, and Dora Juanita Norris and husband, Gene, of Braddyville. There are 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 18 great great-grandchildren. Agnes Porter of Denver, CO, is a sister and Trula Schrodt of Bedford is a daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am., Thursday, October 17, 1996, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with
Rev. Bill Chambers officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening. Burial will be in Clarinda Cemetery.

Brian Daniel Wolkensdorfer was born August 16, 1964 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Daniel and Carolyn (Minges) Wolkensdorfer. He passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his home in Ridgecrest, California at the age of 49 years, 7 months and 3 days.
Brian grew up in the Los Angeles area and graduated from St. Francis High School in Mt. View, California with the class of 1984. On November 28, 1986 he was united in marriage to Virginia Rose Gray. This union was blessed with two daughters, Elizabeth and Danielle.
Brian joined the United States Air Force and served over 20 years before retiring. Following his retirement, he worked as a civilian contractor for United States Navy. He was an Awana Commander for over seven years and was also a member of the Eagle’s Lodge. He enjoyed his guns, NASCAR, woodworking and carpentry. His true love was spending time with his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wolkensdorfer of Port Allen, Louisiana; two daughters, Elizabeth Anderson and her husband Michael of Sidney, Iowa; Danielle Wolkensdorfer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two grandchildren, Keaton Hocken and Charlee Anderson of Sidney, Iowa; his mother, Carolyn Wolkensdorfer of Annapolis, Maryland; two sisters, Judy Douglas and her husband Tom of Annapolis, Maryland, Mary Hovland and her husband Doug of Annapolis, Maryland; along with many other relatives and friends.
