Vermillion, Trevor Dylan - Trevor Dylan Vermillion was born on August 29, 1990, to Mark and Ginger (Forbes) Vermillion in Shenandoah, Iowa. Trevor died by suicide on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in rural Farragut, Iowa.

Trevor grew up in the community of Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 2009. He was a devoted Jim Morrison fan and enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, going fishing and spending time with his friends. Trevor had most recently been employed with NSK Corporation in Clarinda.

von Arx, Dorothy Louise - Dorothy Louise von Arx passed away on Tuesday afternoon at the Nebraska Medical Center.

Memorials may be directed to the Elm Heights Care Center or St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Dorothy Louise von Arx, daughter of Edward and Rosa (Studer) von Arx, was born at Home City, Kansas on February 6, 1919. Dorothy entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Dorothy was raised on a farm near Home City and attended country school. She later attended St. Malachy's School in Beattie, Kansas until her senior year when she attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Oelwein, Iowa. She graduated with the Class of 1938.

Dorothy moved to Shenandoah in 1950 and went to work for Snow White Laundry for two years. She later gained employment with Bramow Studebaker Auto Dealership. After working for Bramow's she took a job as a bookkeeper for the Allis Chalmers Implement Company, (Youngberg's and later Miller/Carnegy) where she worked for 27 years until her retirement in 1981.

Dorothy was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Guild. She was a former member of the Shenandoah B.P.W. and the Three M Card Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters Gladys M. Thomas, Rosella Hayes and Virginia Easton. Those left to honor her memory include six nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews along with a host of friends

Waldron, Georgia Noladean - Georgia Noladean Waldron was born March 31, 1935 near Essex, Iowa, the daughter of George Murrell and Virginia Geraldine (Wooden) Waldron. She passed away on Monday morning, October 15, 2012 at her home near Coin, Iowa following a lengthy illness at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Nodie grew up in southwest Iowa and was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah and enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Nodie also loved crafts and jigsaw puzzles. Her true love was her family, especially taking care of all her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Tommy Waldron, Robert Waldron, Gary Waldron, Phillip Waldron; and a nephew, Kevin Thomas.

Survivors include her siblings, Marian Thomas and her husband Dale of Blanchard, Iowa, Jim Waldron and his wife Sheryl of Villisca, Iowa, Sandy Knizely and her husband Eric of Coin, Iowa, Bill Waldron and his wife Vicki of Ft. Funeral services for Earl Warner, age 92, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Westridge Care and Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa, will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the First Christian Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Earl Clarence Warner was born December 27, 1919, near Coin, Iowa, the fourth of six children of Walter Clayton Warner and Augusta (Windhorst) Warner. Earl attended Page County schools. He was blessed with good health and amazing strength and hired out at whatever work was available during the Great Depression. After the outbreak of World War II, Earl enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged September 15, 1945 at Saint Louis, Missouri and came home to farm in East River Township.

Earl was married to Marian Adelaide (Parks) Warner on June 30, 1943, at the First Christian Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Earl & Marian had three daughters, Margaret Jean (Reiber), Patricia Ann (Spangler), and Christine Louise (Karg). Marian passed away at their home in Clarinda on April 20, 1990.

Church, family and community activities played an important role in Earl's life. He served as an Elder and board member of First Christian Church for many years. Earl was active in Farm Bureau and served on the Farmers Home Administration Board. He served two terms on the Clarinda Community School Board and six years on Page County Board of Supervisors. He was recognized for conservation and soil management practices carried out on his farm. He received the Environmental award in 1977 for pasture management and the Emmett Zollars Award for individual conservation work in 1983. He strongly believed the soil must be preserved for future generations.

Earl was married to Helen Thompson on April 27, 1991, in Mesa, Arizona, where they made their home until her passing in 2001. He often said that a man is fortunate to have one good wife, but he was blessed with two. Earl returned to Clarinda in 2006 and lived at the Eiler House and then with daughter Chris and husband Randy Karg from 2008 until he moved to Westridge Care Facility in June 2011, where he passed away on January 18, 2012.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Marian (Parks) and Helen (Thompson); sister, Gloe Johnston; brothers, Emmett, Homer, and Walter Jr.; two sons-in-laws, William Reiber and Martin Gordon and step grandson, Martin Gordon Jr.. He is survived by his sister, Jule and husband Darrell Nelson of Pueblo, Colorado; daughters, Margaret Reiber of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ann Spangler and husband Regan of Omaha, Nebraska and Christine and husband Randy Karg of Clarinda. Earl took special pride in his four grandchildren and eight and a half great-grandchildren, Ryan and Shelly (McPherson) Spangler of Omaha, Kristen, Bruce, Lydia, Gavin, Colin and Liam Downs of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brandon, Karyn, Morgan and Cameron Reiber of Chicago, and Amber, David, Kohl and Augusta and June baby Wiens of Lincoln, Nebraska. Jewell Eloise Warner was born August 6, 1924 to Marion Alva Mahan and Evy Gertrude (Brake) Mahan in Treynor, Iowa. At the age of one year, her family moved to a farm near Emerson, Iowa and she grew up in the Emerson area attending rural schools and graduating from Wales-Lincoln High School in 1940. She attended Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing where she received her R.N. degree in 1945. After the war, a sailor by the name of Walt Warner came into her life and the couple was united in marriage on October 22, 1947 at the Christian Church, Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Patrick Clayton, Michael Mahan and Lori Lee.

Jewell began her employment as a registered nurse at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital in 1945. With the exception of a ten month employment at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute, she spent her nursing career at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Jewell was Director of Nursing 1968-1977 and returned to floor duty until her retirement in 1988. She was a compassionate, caring person and continued to be a caregiver always giving of herself to others. Jewell was a blessing to others and a mentor for many young nurses.

Jewell's family was very important to her and she never forgot a family member's birthday or anniversary. She was an excellent cook and loved to cook for her family and for church activities. Jewell is remembered by her family as a gracious hostess that made meals very special with her beautiful table settings. She also enjoyed crocheting and the yearly trips that she and Walt took to see family in Arizona and Colorado.

Preceding Jewell in death were her parents; husband Walt Warner (August 25, 2007); great grandson, Logan Thornton.

Watts, Mary Lucille Barrett - Mary Lucille Watts was born March 19, 1924 in Jones Creek Waldron, Arkansas, the daughter of Jasper Dale and Minnie Callie (Essman) Barrett. She passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Clarinda Regional Medical Center at the age of 87.
Lucille, or Lucy to her friends, grew up in Jones Creek Waldron Arkansas and then later moved with her parents to Grantville, Kansas. She got her GED and completed some college work at the Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas after her children were grown.
On November 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Howard Edward Watts. Howard and Lucille have three children: Barbara, Patricia and Jerry. Howard preceded her in death on October 15, 2001. Barbara preceded her in death on May 31, 2011. Lucy was active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church as a Sabbath School leader and teacher. For many years she worked as a seamstress making custom draperies and bed spreads. She also did custom upholstery work.
Lucille and Howard moved to Clarinda, Iowa in May 1998 after she had undergone open heart surgery. After moving to Clarinda she enjoyed quilting with her daughter Barbara and the Scrap Happy Quilt Guild.
Survivors include daughter, Patricia Trayer of Clarinda, Iowa; son Jerry and wife Patricia Watts of Rose Hill, Kansas; Son-in-law Ronald Livengood of Clarinda, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Brian Barker and friend Sharla of Taos, New Mexico, Bret Livengood of Story City, Iowa, Tim Livengood and fiancé Wendy of Ames, Iowa, Kris and husband David Moes of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Joy Ingraham of Westminster, Colorado, Jason and wife Brandie Watts of Spencer, Oklahoma, Justin and wife Sara Watts of Wichita, Kansas; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister Jean and husband Bob Duffin of Topeka, Kansas; brother Ronald and wife Marlee Barrett of Logan, Utah; brother Larry and wife Mary Lou Barrett of Stratham, New Hampshire.

Joye Mac Welch was born November 12, 1921 at Clarinda, Iowa to McKinley (Mac) Miller and Georgia (Kohler) Miller. She grew up in the Clarinda area graduating from Clarinda High School. Joye and Darrell L. (Deck) Welch were united in marriage at Rockport, Missouri on September 12, 1939. They were blessed with five children: Janice, David, Benjamin, Terri and Debbie.

Joye lived most all of her life in Page County. She and her husband farmed and when he passed away in 1992, Joye continued to live on their farm east of Shambaugh until 1995 when she moved into Shambaugh. Joye later moved to the Eiler House for a short time and then resided at Westridge Care Center since 2008.

Joye was a member of the Shambaugh United Methodist Church and also a 60 year member of the Order of Eastern Star where she held numerous offices. She was a 4-H leader when her children were younger. Joye was active in numerous community clubs and card clubs. Joye was especially interested in and active with the Nodaway Historical Museum. She enjoyed crafts including working with leather to crocheting and quilting. Joye was a people person, having no problem staying busy, always giving of herself to others and helping with community projects and services. She enjoyed the farm and the lifestyle it provided. Her family was most important and she was involved with her kids and their activities. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. No one ever went away hungry. The holidays were a special time for Joye and her family and friends enjoyed all of her special treats.

Joye was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Darrell (Deck) Welch.

Welchans, Martha Ann Bidwell - Martha Ann Bidwell Welchans entered into eternal rest at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 23 days, under the loving care of her family and Iowa Hospice on February 23, 2012, at her country home south of Farragut.
Martha Ann Bidwell was born in Red Oak, Iowa, on September 1, 1926, the second daughter of Kenneth O. Bidwell and Hope Ann (Allen) Bidwell. Later on Martha, her parents, and her older sister Araruth moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, and lived there for a short time before moving to Farragut, Iowa. Soon a new sister, Jane, was born and after some time, brother John completed the family.
Martha attended Farragut High School where she was active in many school activities, graduating in 1943. She enjoyed girls' basketball while she was in high school and in her adult life was an avid fan, supporter, and sponsor of Farragut girls' basketball.
Following her graduation, she attended business school in Omaha. At that time the family moved to Casper, Wyoming, where her father worked for the railroad. During her time in Casper, Martha worked for an insurance agency.
In 1948 Carl Welchans, a classmate at Farragut High School, returned from World War II. Carl traveled to Martha's home in Casper where they were married on November 23, 1948. They returned to Iowa where Carl had purchased a farm, and they made a home and raised three sons: Dave, Kenny and Bill.
Martha was a farm wife for many years and later worked as a census taker. She particularly enjoyed selling Avon products and worked for several years as a ward clerk at Grape Hospital in Hamburg. Martha was employed in Dr. Jerry Schaaf's medical offices in Sidney, Farragut, and Shenandoah, for over twenty years. She also worked in the offices of Shenandoah Medical Center until her retirement.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Kenneth and Hope Bidwell, sister Araruth Nihart, and nephew John Bidwell,Jr.
Martha is survived by her husband of 64 years, Carl B. Welchans of rural Farragut; son David A. Welchans and special friend Sheryl Sanders of rural Farragut; son Kenneth C. Welchans and wife Peggy Sue of rural Farragut; son William B. Welchans and wife Angie of Farragut; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister Jane Norman and husband Dave of Moorcroft, Wyoming; brother John Bidwell and wife Carol of Casper, Wyoming; and many other relatives and friends

Jineva Joy Wentworth was born at Parker, Kansas, May 18, 1926, to Walter R. Dysart and Neva (Lemon) Dysart. She grew up with her younger brother William in Parker and attended all twelve years of school there. She then attended college at Pittsburg, Kansas where she received a teaching certificate. Joy married Junior Cree in 1946 and moved to Searchlight, Nevada where they had two children, Walter Clyde and Joy Maria. She later married Merle Wentworth at Paola, Kansas. Three children were born to this union, Joann, Jerrie and John. Merle also brought his daughter Cora into the family.

Through the years of raising their family, they lived at Paola, Kansas, McPherson, Kansas and Burlington, Kansas. Merle was a transport truck driver and in 1963 was disabled in an accident, leaving Joy to support the family. Cooking had always been a part of her life as she was working at truck stop café when she met Merle. Through the years, she cooked at the Lakeview Café in Strawn, Kansas and also ran her own café for a few years in Burlington. Following Merle's death, she finished her cooking career at Coffey County Hospital. Whenever you wanted good food or to be treated special with your favorite meal; you knew she would have it. Joy received great pleasure treating friends and family with food and she has passed on that trait to her children. She leaves her children and grandchildren with many great memories. Joy was always busy with sewing or patch work projects. At Christmas, you knew someone would receive a comforter, quilt, or pillow or a novelty item she made. She loved seeing, hearing and reading about country music singers and was always willing to take a road trip to see one if she could. Joy liked to take her family to Lander, Wyoming to visit relatives and friends where she had visited often as a child.

Joy was a fifty year Eastern Star member. Following some health issues in 2005, she moved to Clarehaven apartments in Clarinda, Iowa to be near some of her family. She enjoyed talking to all her friends on the phone and visiting with her neighbors. She was able to get out and around for awhile, then her health started going downhill and she spent the last several months at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa and the Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, Iowa.

Preceding Joy in death were her parents; husband, Merle Wentworth (1972); son, Walter Clyde Cree (2001); brother, William Dysart.

Carolyn Kay West was born on December 24, 1938 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Coes Clark and Lois Lillie (Flynn) Stake. Carolyn entered into eternal peace on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa.

Carolyn attended school in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School. On September 3, 1961 she was united in marriage to Duane Eldon West at the Congregational Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple made their home in Farragut.

Carolyn worked for Montgomery Wards and was best know as the secretary and bookkeeper for Duane E. West Trucking. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Farragut as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved to collect "things" and during the holiday seasons her home would always be beautifully decorated. The kids in Farragut loved to trick-or trick at Carolyn's home, because she always gave the best goodie bags!

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Beverly Almquist, father-in-law Everette West; nephew CJ Almquist, beloved son Randal B. West; brother Jack Stake; and most recently by her husband of 50 years Duane E. West.

West, Duane Eldon - Duane Eldon West, age 73, of Farragut, Iowa passed away April 27, 2012 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Duane was born September 4, 1938 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Everett and Feanette (Thompson) West.

Duane lived his whole life in Farragut literally just one block on the same street. He graduated from Farragut High School with the Class of 1957. While in high school Duane was involved in Track and Field. After high school Duane enlisted in the United States Army Reserves from 1957-1960, he received his basic training in Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri.

On September 3, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Stake in Shenandoah, Iowa. Duane was the owner of Duane E. West Trucking from 1957-2011 until his third heart attack prohibited him from continuing doing the job that he loved. Duane was a member of the Farragut Jaycees. He enjoyed buying jackets, his dog, Ruff, and living life to the fullest.

Duane was preceded in death by his son Randal Brice West; father Everett West; brother-in-law Jack Stake; sister-in-law Beverly Almquist; other relatives CJ Almquist, Coes and Lois Stake.

Frank L. Wetmore, Jr. (Bud), 92, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Clarinda, Iowa and a longtime resident of Bedford, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Bryan LGH East Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska. Bud was born on November 22, 1919 to Frank and Edith (Mawhinney) in Bedford, Iowa. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1937 and attended mortuary school in Kansas City. He married Lucille Wolverton on June 19, 1938. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on June 22, 1944 and served in World War II as a Pharmacist's Mate.

Bud and Lucille lived in Bedford and raised three sons. Bud was a businessman and owned the Wetmore Funeral Home and Dad & Lad Clothing Store in Bedford. He was involved in many community activities such as the Masonic Lodge, the ZaGaZig Shrine, the Bedford Lions Club, the American Legion and the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department. He sold the funeral home in 1959 and said "when his friends became his customers, it was time to move on". They also lived in Poplar Bluff, Missouri before they retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas. He continued to be involved in many organizations in each community. After 63 years of marriage, Lucille died on January 7, 2001. In 2003, Bud moved to Clarinda, Iowa where he married Gwendolyn Trumbo Prather. They had known each other since being in Bedford High School together. Their two families have been intertwined for over 70 years as friends. In October of 2011, Bud and Gwen moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Bud loved to play bridge and cribbage. He was always an avid bird hunter and golfer and had six Holes-in-One and a Double Eagle.

Bud is survived by his wife, Gwen of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Frank of Bellevue, Idaho; son, Daniel (Cindy) of Mission, Kansas; son, Victor (Sue) of Tucson, Arizona; step-daughter, Joyce (Judson) Douglas of Lincoln, Nebraska; step-son, David (Vicki) Trumbo of Lafayette, Colorado. There are five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren and many friends

Alice M. Wheeler nee Copeland passed away June 4, 2012. She was born March 7, 1914, near Adana, Kansas to Margaret Elma nee Cabeen and William Wallace Copeland. Alice was raised in Colfax Township in Southwestern Iowa graduating from Blanchard Memorial High School in 1932. She graduated from the University of Iowa School Of Nursing in 1936 and worked at the University Hospital. Alice married Robert Edgar Wheeler, a high school classmate, in San Diego, CA in November 1938. They lived in a number of locations around the United States as Edgar completed a 30 year Navy career. Her three sons were born in Virginia, Rhode Island and Indiana. They settled in Lake Bluff, Illinois and Alice turned a lifelong love of books into a career as a Librarian, retiring from the Waukegan Library as Children's Librarian. During the 1980's she served on the Lake Bluff Library Board. In 2009, she was honored by the library and her neighbors in the Lake Bluff Fourth of July Parade as a "Living Legend". A lifelong Presbyterian, Alice was an ordained Elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan since 1964. She served in numerous capacities in the congregation. She was also an active member of P.E.O.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, R. Edgar Wheeler and her brother, William Edgar Copeland. She leaves behind her three sons: William ( Vera), Robert (Susan) and John (Rosemary) and four granddaughters: Sara, Caryn and Megan Wheeler and Katie (Brian) Wharry

White, Harland Lester - Harlan Lester White was born March 29, 1930 in Burlington Junction, Missouri, the son of Hugh Lee and Eva Esther White. He passed away on Friday evening, February 24, 2012 at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 26 days.

Harlan grew up in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1948. After high school, he served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 in Japan during the Korean War. On December 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Donis Ahrens. This union was blessed with three children; Michael Lee (57), Harlan Marten (56) and Sharon Kay (55).

After his marriage, Harlan moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he was the manager of Peony Park for nine years. In 1963, they moved to Red Oak where he managed the Red Coach Inn & Lounge. He later retired from the Farmers Mercantile Coop after 30 years of employment. After Harlan’s health began to deteriorate, he and Donis moved to Shenandoah in2007. Harlan lived his last 10 months in the good care at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah. Harlan will be remembered as a loving husband of 60 years, his good sense of humor and his large number of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, George White.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Donis White of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Mike White and his wife Deb of Indianola, Iowa; their three daughters and three grandchildren, Marty White and his wife Lil of Roy, Utah, their three daughters, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Sharon Moree and her husband Curtis of Shenandoah, Iowa, and their son and three grandchildren; a brother Robert Wayne White of South Carolina; along with many other relatives and friends

White, Norma W. - Norma W. White, 75, of Chippewa Township, departed this life on May 7, 2012.
She was born December 31, 1936, in Clarinda, Iowa, daughter of the late Homer and Bessie McCalla Woods. A graduate of Geneva College, she was an active member of College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church, and participated in a number of clubs in the area - the Geneva Women, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, and the Little Beaver Historical Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, John and Ethel White.
She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Dr. John H. White, the president of Geneva College from 1992 to 2004; two daughters, Natalie (Ray) Austin, Moon Township, and Stephanie, Big Beaver; six grandchildren, Steven, Jennifer, Janelle, Asa, Aiden and Matthew; tow sisters, Eleanor Blair, Clarinda, Iowa and Madelyn Adams, Darlington Township; a niece, four nephews, and numerous cousins.
She completed her journey on earth after a four-year battle with cancer and peacefully transitioned from earth to heaven. She awaits the sound of the trumpet at the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery, New Galilee, Pa.

Whitehill, Darrell Lee - Darrell Lee Whitehill was born on March 3, 1923, the son of Lee and Annie (Tyner) Whitehill in Northboro, Iowa. Darrell entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2012 at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the blessed age of 88 years.

Darrell's early years were spent in the Northboro community. He attended Northboro School where he played basketball and graduated high school. On January 19, 1943 Darrell enlisted in the Army Air Force. He served overseas during WWII, where he met and married his beloved wife, Dorothy Barlow on September 1, 1945 in Warrington, England. Darrell later received an honorable discharge on April 25, 1946.

Darrell owned and operated Whitehill Feed and Milling from 1946 until 1971. He then went to work at Eaton's where he served as a foreman from 1971 until he retired in 1988, to care for his wife Dorothy who had fallen ill. He was a dedicated member of the Northboro United Methodist Church. Darrell was a devoted father who worked hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Annie; step-mother Opal; his loving wife, Dorothy; brothers, Kenneth and Boyd; son-in-law, James Kay; and sister-in-law, Nancy Whitehill.

Wiesen, Diana Marie - Diana Marie Wiesen, age 44, passed away February 14, 2012 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa. Diana was born May 26, 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska to Joseph Raymond and Delores Lucille (Lincoln) Wiesen.

Diana graduated from Shenandoah High School with the class of 1985. She delivered weekly papers for the Valley News Today. She enjoyed making hand crafted cards, going to her son, Cody's, sporting events and being with family during the holidays. Diana was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Shenandoah, Iowa. At Forrest Park Manor, she was known for her helping hand to all that needed her help. She was always up beat and loving.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Delores Wiesen and nephew Jarrod Maher.

Williams, Calvin Edward - Calvin Edward Williams was born December 2, 1923 north of Clarinda to Edward Roger and Edna Belle (Winter) Williams. He attended the Rose Hill Church and was baptized in the Nodaway River. Calvin later joined the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clarinda and was again baptized. He married Frances Tally on July 25, 1942 and to this union were born five children: Dennis, Judy, Don, Steve and Karen. Calvin grew up farming north of town and did so all of his life. He retired after his health declined but continued to make trips out to the farm as often as he could. Calvin married Elnora McAlpin on November 7, 1992 in Clarinda, Iowa and together they continued living in Clarinda. Calvin loved playing cards and enjoyed getting together with friends.

Calvin passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Frances Williams; daughter Judy Spunaugle; siblings: Dorothy Runyan, Marion Kriessler, Lois Boardman, Wendell Williams and Dewey Williams.

Surviving Calvin are his wife Elnora Williams of Clarinda; children: Dennis Williams and wife Karen, Don Williams and wife Pam, Steve Williams and wife Terry all of Clarinda, Karen Stark and husband Mark of Idaho; son-in-law Merritt Spunaugle of Clarinda; 11 grandchildren; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Nola Bloomfield of Yorktown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral serivces for Calvin Williams, 88 of Clarinda, will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 10, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with burial to follow the serivce in the Clarinda Cemetery. Visitation with the family present is scheduled from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to a fund in his name for later designation.

Williams, Emma Julia Schoening - Emma Julia (Schoening) Williams was born near Mineola, Iowa, to Otto and Helen (Denker) Schoening on September 10, 1912. She passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 99 years.

Emma was raised on the farm where she was born. Being the descendant of German immigrants, she spoke no English until she began her education at Sand Hollow School in rural Mills County, Iowa. After she completed her eighth grade year, it was decided that since Emma was the oldest daughter, she would remain at home to help with the little ones.

On June 25, 1941, Emma married Virgil Williams. The ceremony took place at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mineola, where Emma had also been baptized and confirmed. The couple settled in Shenandoah, and they became parents of a daughter, Nancy Sue.

Emma was very content with her role as a homemaker and mother. She took pride in the everyday things she did. A neighbor once told her, "You have the whitest wash I've ever seen!". Nieces and nephews looked forward to Aunt Emma's sour-cream chocolate cupcakes whenever there was a family gathering. She enjoyed working in the yard and mowing, and she did so until she turned 80.

In the winter, Emma would find time to embroider tea-towels to give as gifts to family and friends. For awhile she enjoyed doing ceramics and was especially proud of a nativity set that she created. Her radio would often be turned to a station playing polka music as she went about her daily routine.

Emma was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. For many years she was active in the Trinity Women's League. She enjoyed the fellowship of the church ladies as she helped prepare and serve many church dinners.

Preceding Emma in death were her husband Virgil; her parents; brothers Fred, Robert, John, Glen and infant Harlan; sisters Catherine Colwell and infant Edna. A native of Todd County, KY he was born May 6, 1947 the son of the late Charlie Thomas Williams and Levy( Henderson) Williams. He was retired from Forrest B. White Masonary and Construction.

Williams, Jesse Gerald - Jesse, 91 passed away at his home in Shenandoah, surrounded by his loving family.

Jesse Gerald Williams, age 91, passed away February 27, 2012 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa. Jesse was born on October 9, 1920 to John Andrew, Sr. and Effie G. (Hagey) Williams, in Burlington Junction, Missouri.
Jesse's family lived in Burlington Junction until moving to Shenandoah in 1923. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1939.
During World War II, Jesse enlisted in the United States Navy, where he became a Motor Machinist's Mate First Class. He served from 1942 until 1945 in the following places: San Diego, Kaneohe Bay, Palmyra Island, and Pearl Harbor. Jesse was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
On July 17, 1960, Jesse married Anna Lucille Dooley in Hamburg, Iowa, where they lived for two years, before moving to Shenandoah in 1962. He was employed at several local garages before working at Williams Brothers Garage as a mechanic until his retirement.
Jesse had many hobbies, some of his favorites were: trapshooting, (he participated in many tournaments and won many trophies); woodworking, (he enjoyed making furniture and gunstocks); stockcar racing (he and his brothers had a team in the 1950's); and carpentry (he built his home). He also enjoyed yard work, watching sports on TV and hearing about his grandsons' activities (school and sports).
Preceding Jesse in death were his wife Lucille Williams; his parents; brothers, Floyd, Alvin, Leo, John, Nelson, and Virgil; and sisters, Edna, Jane and Alice.

Funeral services for Lester Williams, age 86, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Eiler House, Clarinda, Iowa, will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012, at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Chaplain Sue Newsome officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 2-4 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012. Burial will be in the Shearer Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa with military rites.

John Lester Williams was born October 3, 1925, at Mapleton, Iowa to Izola (Laub) Williams and Mason Williams. He grew up in the Braddyville area attending Center Buchanan School and graduated from Braddyville High School. Lester served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II off shore Japan and during the Korean Conflict based in Guam repairing electrical ship systems. Lester and Shelia Mace were united in marriage November 20, 1946 at Hiawatha, Kansas. They were blessed with five children, Shira, Shilia, John, Shelly and Jaymes.

John Lester lived his life on a farm near Braddyville and after losing their home to fire, they moved to Shambaugh and in later years to Clarinda. Lester worked as an electrician for many years and then drove an over the road semi-truck for twenty five years. He received an award for driving over a million miles accident free.

Following retirement at the age of 75, one of his proudest feats was designing and building "on his own" their log home two miles east of Clarinda. His leisure hours were spent playing cribbage, chess, cards, doing cross word puzzles (in ink) and he loved dancing, especially the polka. He was an excellent gardener, making sure the whole family had fresh vegetables all summer. Lester enjoyed selling his vegetables at the Farmers Market for many years. He was lovingly known by family and friends by his nicknames of "Willie", "Shorty" or "Johnny".

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Izola and Mason Williams; his sixteen year old son, Jaymes; his brother, Joe Williams; sisters-in-law, Ailene Williams and Linda Mace.

Williams, Loche Earl - Loche Earl Williams passed from this life on August 21, 2012 at home. He was born May 4, 1955 in Red Oak, Iowa, to Charles E. and Mary E. (Romdall) Williams. He grew up in Shenandoah, graduating from Shenandoah Community High School in 1973. He then attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a B.S. in Psychology in 1977.

Loche married Laurie Patricia Sturgeon from Vancouver, British Columbia, whom he met on a trip he took after high school. To that marriage was born one son, Charles "Charlie" Loche Williams.

Loche was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Williams, and grandparents. He is survived by his son, Charlie, and first wife, Laurie, both of British Columbia; his sister, the Rev. Lory Fahle and her husband, Gary, of Lawton, OK; three nieces, Rebekkah Shipp and family of Lubbock, TX, Jeanette Moorehead and family of Lawton, OK, and Samantha Kaenel, also of Lawton, OK; a step-niece, Jana Rosenkranz and family of Putnam City, OK; and step-nephew James Fahle and family of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Wynn, Norman DeForrest - Funeral services for Norman Wynn, age 83, of Clarinda, who entered into peace Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, were held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Clarinda. Visitation with the family was held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery with a Masonic Service held at the graveside by Nodaway Lodge #140 A.F. & A.M, Charles Mayer, W.M. Norman DeForrest Wynn was born May 20, 1929, the son of Forrest and Helen (Long) Wynn on a farm near Hepburn, Iowa. He began his education at Siam's country school, graduated from Clarinda High School in 1947, and continued his education at the Clarinda Junior College. Growing up he was active in church events, 4-H, FFA and DeMolay, where he served as the new chapter's first Master Counselor and later as a state officer. Norman married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Hughes, June 11, 1950, and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. From this union were born three daughters, Cynthia Rae, Debra Janine and Patricia Anne.
Norman spent his life involved in agriculture. In 1951, he and Wanda moved to a farm south of Hawleyville where they resided until 1971, when they moved into Clarinda. Norman was known for his progressive thinking and was honored as Jaycee's Outstanding Young Farmer in 1964. In the early 60's he began experimenting with techniques to increase his crop production. As neighbors noted the improvements in his crops, they hired him to do the same for theirs. This was the start of their agricultural business, which eventually included fertilizer and chemicals, feed, seed, farm equipment and grain elevators. Norman deeply loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed time he spent with family members both involved in the business and at home. Through the business, Norman and Wanda were fortunate to travel in the U.S. and several foreign countries. They enjoyed traveling, but still loved being at home with family most of all.
A lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, Norman was involved on the Administrative Board, Trustees and new building projects as well as a charter member of the Together Sunday School Class. Norman was a 50 year member of Nodaway Masonic Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master. He was also a 35 year member of the Moila Shrine of St. Joseph. Norman was proud of Clarinda and was able to contribute to many worthy causes in the community including the gift of family land for the new water plant.
After retirement, Norman and Wanda spent many happy years in the Yuma, Ariz. area. They enjoyed hosting their family for yearly winter visits as well as friends visiting from home.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Helen Wynn and his eldest daughter Cindy. Survivors include his wife Wanda and daughters Deb (Phil) Tornholm of Clarinda and Pat Wynn of Iowa City. He is also survived by granddaughters Erin (Andy) Baldwin of Waukee, Iowa, and Megan Tornholm of Omaha, Neb., niece Linda (Carl) Farrar of Lawrence, Kan., as well as many friends.
Norman was a "people person" and treasured his family and the customers and friends he made throughout his life. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn his passing

Young, Harold Stanley - Harold Stanley Young was born July 17, 1940 to Sammie James and Goldie Wilma (Schollian) Young. Stanley first started school in a one room county school and then later finished in Braddyville. During Stanley’s high school years, he was an accomplished athlete excelling in basketball; participating all four years. He graduated in the Braddyville Class of 1958 and furthered his education going to school and becoming an LPN. Stanley married Jean Michelle (Whorton) Young on August 13, 1987 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Stanley’s current hobby was long haul team driving with his wife for Tyson Foods, Inc. They traveled all over the United States together for work and also in the RV during their personal time; enjoying each other’s companionship. Work was Stanley’s hobby and he was a great and faithful employee still pursuing his hobby until his unexpected illness that lead to his untimely death.
Stanley passed away August 2, 2012 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. He is preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; and nephew Darin Heerman.
Surviving Stanley are his wife of 24 years, Michelle; children: Eva Loree Webster of St. Louis, MO, James (Brandi) Young of Holdenville, OK and Kyle (Katie) Young of Norman, OK; step-children: Syreeta Whorton of Oklahoma City, OK, Kwame Dewberry of Philadelphia, PA and Monique Hill of Clear Lake, TX; numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren; sisters: Stephanie (Wayne) Simmons of Guthrie Center, IA and Faren (Ric) Rasmussen of Essex, IA; beloved aunt Doris Marie Parrott of Clarinda, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Stanley will continue his second hobby of full-time RV’ing with Michelle in their Airstream. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life and his family. Memorials may be directed to Relay for Life in Stanley’s honor. Private family memorial services are planned for a later date.

Zuck, Patsy Arlene Herrick - Patsy Arlene (Herrick) Zuck, daughter of E. C. and Nellie (Wylie) Herrick, was born on February 9, 1931 at Massena, Iowa. She passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Her early life was spent in Exira, Iowa, where she started school. The family later moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in 1940. Pat attended the Shenandoah Community Schools graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1949.
On December 31, 1949, Pat was united in marriage to Duane Leon Zuck at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed two miles south of Farragut, Iowa. In 1961 they moved to a farm near Shenandoah. They moved into Shenandoah in 1989, where they lived at 605 South Ave until moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 2009. Their last move brought them to Omaha, Nebraska.
Over the years, Pat worked a variety of different jobs utilizing her talents. She worked as a loving mother and housewife and worked at Henry Field's for many years. In 1989 she began working for the State Inspection, Appeals and Tax Revenue Department and Iowa Public Television in Des Moines. She later worked in Creston at the Iowa Department of Transportation and Job Service. She also worked for the State Hospital in Clarinda as a bookkeeper and record keeper. She last worked in Council Bluffs in Revenue and Finance. Pat had excellent office skills from typing to proof reading to adding figures and numbers.
Volunteering was important to Pat, through the years she was active in the Norwich Methodist Church where she was the Youth Fellowship and Choir Director and also church pianist. She was also active in Eastern Star, the First Christian Church, Pairs and Squares square dancing, Rotary, also served as Treasurer and delivered Meals on Wheels, and was President of the Shenandoah Senior Center.
Music was also a big part of Pat's life and she was proud to be a self taught pianist. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, reading, flowers, camping, pets, road trips and vacations.
Preceding Pat in death were her parents and son, Michael Duane Zuck in 1975. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Duane Zuck of Omaha, NE; daughter, Terri Ertzner of Omaha, NE; son, Jerry Zuck of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Chris Foster of Omaha, NE, Michael Zuck of Kansas City, KS and Michelle Zuck of Kansas City, MO; other relatives and many friends. She will be greatly missed and loving remembered, by all those whose lives she touched
