Services for Harry Wagoner, age 81, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Clarinda, with Pastor Daryl Tompkins officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda. Burial with military rites by American Legion Sergy Post 98 will be in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Harry John Gustav Wagoner of Clarinda passed away on June 21, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri from complications of lymphoma.

Harry was born November 1, 1929, on a farm near Clarinda, to Elisabeth (Hollmeyer) and Martin Wagoner. He was baptized December 1, 1929 and confirmed May 24, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Harry attended Spring Hill Country School and was in the Army from February, 1951 to February, 1953. On June 14, 1957, Harry was united in marriage to Phyllis Farquhar at the United Presbyterian Church, College Springs, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Kevin, Shirley and Brian.

After working various jobs including farming, the dairy operation of the Mental Health Institute, and the telephone company, Harry began his career with the United States Postal Service in November, 1957. He became Postmaster in Clarinda in 1977 and retired in 1987.

Harry was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, active as an Elder, choir member, Life Light leader, Evangelism Committee member, and confirmation and bible class teacher. He was an active member of Lutheran Layman’s League and a long-time member and past president of the Lion’s Club. He also volunteered as a health care transporter. Harry enjoyed golfing, family vacations, and travels to Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Wales, Hawaii and Canada. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan, attending many games at Busch Stadium with family.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lisle and Marion Farquhar; sister, Irene Mellencamp and husband Franklin; brothers-in-law, Donald Van Fosson and Fredrick Schlender.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Phyllis of Clarinda; children, Kevin Wagoner and wife Valerie of West Des Moines, Iowa; Shirley Klopfenstein and husband Brian of Gladstone, Missouri; Brian Wagoner and wife Shannon of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Julianne, Ali, Drew, Baylee, Ellie and Matthew; his sisters, Ruth Van Fosson of Kansas City, Missouri; Margarete Wagoner of Clarinda, and Dorothea Eden and husband Lyle of Clarinda; brother, Martin Wagoner and wife Shirleann of Clarinda; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Schlender; and many nieces, nephews and friends

Memorial services for Dennis Walker, age 58 formerly of Shenandoah, who died Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Springfield, Missouri will be held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Bedford City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Ritchie Funeral Home starting at 12:30 PM. Military rites will be accorded by Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Dennis Craig Walker was born August 18, 1952, in Maryville, Missouri the son of Claude C. and Iola M. (Strong) Walker. He passed away August 14, 2011 at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 27 days in Springfield, Missouri after several months of illness.

He grew up attending school in Shenandoah and when he was a senior in high school signed up the United States Air Force. In November of 1971, he completed his basic training at Sheppard AFB in Texas. In May of 1972, he was assigned to a Hospital in Torryon Air Base in Spain. In July of 1980, he was assigned to the USAD Hospital in George AFB in California. In 1985, he was reassigned as Director of Education at Cannis NCO P.M.E. Center.

Dennis was also an Honor graduate of Dental Superious Course USAF School at Sheppard AFB Texas. He was awarded numerous medals during his service of twenty years, retiring in 1991.

Preceding Dennis in death are his father; a sister Carolyn, step-father; grandparents; two sisters-in-law, Karen and Debra Walker.

Left to cherish Dennis' memory are his mother Iola M. Thomas of Shenandoah; two brothers, Charles E. Walker of Shenandoah; and Allan H. Walker and wife of Great Bend, Kansas; five nieces and nephews, Bruce and Nick Walker; Claudia Frieze and Patty Newberry all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Jason Walker of Great Bend, Kansas; along with many other relatives and friends.

Wardlow, Benjamin Joseph - Benjamin Joseph Wardlow was born July 9, 1946 in Hamburg, Iowa, the son of Benjamin Joseph and Pansy Marie (Loghry) Wardlow. He passed away on Wednesday morning, July 6, 2011 at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Benny grew up in the Clarinda and Shenandoah are most of his life. He attended school in Clarinda. On August 19, 1978, he was united in marriage to Beverly Keeler in Havelock, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children, BJ, Cassi and Carrie. They later became guardians to Candice and Cameron Long.

Benny worked for J.M. Steel at Hamburg, Iowa for several years. He then moved to Pocahontas, Iowa and worked for J&L Manufacturing in Laurens, Iowa. In 1980 he went to work for Iowa Industrial Hydaulics until he was forced to retire in 2001 for health reasons. In 2009, Benny and Beverly relocated to Red Oak, Iowa and in 2010 moved to Shenandoah.

Benny was a union member. He also enjoyed reading, playing volleyball and playing cards. The true love of his life was his family. He led a hard life and worked hard to provide for his family. His biggest loss was his father when he was 4 years old. He has always looked forward to reuniting with his father in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Mahlon Squires; two sisters, Fanny Strange and Alice Kalkas; step brother, Gerald Squires; step sisters, Carol Squires; great nephew, Andrew; along with many other relatives and friends.

Watkins, Robert "Bob" Jun 10, 1924 - Mar 5, 2011

Robert Earle “Bob” Watkins was born on June 10, 1924 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Charles Salem Watkins and Laura Ollie (Lineberry) Watkins. He entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2011 in Clarinda, Iowa at 86 years of age.

Bob grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. During his youth Bob was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the level of Eagle Scout. He loved to read books from the library and was diligent with his after-school paper route. In High School he developed an interest in art and drawing. Bob attended the University of Iowa studying art and engineering. While attending the University Bob met fellow art student and future wife, Ruth Shambaugh. Bob’s college education was interrupted by the onset of World War II. He joined the United States Army and served his country from 1943-1946 as a Sergeant with the 1397th Engineer Construction Battalion. He was stationed in Okinawa and Saipan. After his tour of duty Bob returned to Iowa to marry his college sweetheart. Bob and Phyllis Ruth Shambaugh were united in marriage on June 2, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa.

Bob and Ruth moved to the Los Angeles area were Bob attended Chouinard Art Institute. He began his career as a commercial artist at Carson-Roberts Advertising Agency in Los Angeles. Their first two children, Wendy and Jennifer Wren were born in Pasadena, California. In 1952 Bob and Ruth moved to the East Coast, settling in Greenwich, Connecticut. Bob worked as an artist/illustrator at Charles E. Cooper, Inc. in New York City, New York. While living there two more children were born, Heidi Lark and Nancy Piper. In 1958 Bob and Ruth and their growing family moved to Northern California. Bob continued his career in advertising as creative director for BBD&O in San Francisco. Their last three children, Robert Jared “Jed”, Sean Heather Field and Seth Jonathan Lynn were born in San Mateo, California. In 1970, Bob, Ruth and their children moved to Clarinda, Iowa. Bob worked as an art director for Fletcher, Mayo and Associates in St. Joseph, Missouri until his retirement in 1987. For several years after formally retiring Bob continued to utilize his advertising talents doing freelance work for Carmichael-Lynch and several other agricultural related companies including American Angus Association.

Over the years Bob created an extensive collection of artwork featuring landscapes and portraits of the places he had been and the people he had known. Bob’s paintings have been on exhibit in galleries in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Many of his paintings hang in the homes of family and friends throughout the United States.
During his career as an art director, Bob won numerous AAF (American Advertising Federation) and NAMA (National Agri-Marketing Association) awards for advertising campaigns created for his clients.

Bob made a life long quest of deepening his understanding of the words of the bible and strengthening his faith. Bob was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clarinda, Iowa. Along with his family, his faith and his work, another aspect of his life that was extremely important to Bob was being a responsible steward of the land.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, Charles Lynn Watkins and wife Martha, brother John Edmund Watkins and wife Dorothy, brother-in-law William H. Shambaugh & wife Ella, and niece Diane Watkins Well.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth Shambaugh Watkins; children: Wendy R. Watkins, Jennifer W. Watkins, Heidi L. Hess and husband Don, Piper Watkins Hobbs and husband David, Jed Watkins and wife Christine, Heather Watkins Zenk and husband James, Seth Watkins and wife Christy; grandchildren: Jordana Zukerman and husband Itai, Samantha Weiland, Kaitlin Hess, Kristen Hess, Amy Lovett, Scott Lovett, Hannah Watkins, Molly Watkins, James Watkins, Heidi Grace Watkins, Mackenzie Zenk, Shane Zenk, Spencer Watkins, Tatum Watkins and great-grandchild: Avi Zukerman.

A memorial art exhibit to honor Bob’s life will be held at a later date.

Webb, Darlene Faye Wise - Darlene Faye Webb was born November 7, 1921 in Fremont County, Iowa near Farragut, the daughter of James Oliver and Jenny (Martin) Wise. She passed away on Friday afternoon, March 18, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 11 days.

Darlene attended school in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1939. She later attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville where she received her Bachelor's degree in Education. On March 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to George Merrill Webb in rural Kansas. This union was blessed with one daughter, Leesa.

She taught school for 40 years across southwest Iowa. Following her retirement, Darlene helped tutor Hispanic children for five years. She loved teaching children and coming up with new ways to get her lessons across to them. Darlene also loved to sew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jenny Wise; a brother-in-law, Bennie Davison; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Miller.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Merrill Webb of Shenandoah, Iowa; her daughter, Leesa Millerand Wally Teten of Shenandoah, Iowa; three grandchildren, Chris Porter and his wife Renee of Shenandoah, Iowa, Fred Miller of Red Oak, Iowa, Melissa Fritz and her husband Josh of Oakland, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Zack Porter of Shenandoah, Iowa, Moriah Miller of Charles City, Iowa, Jackson Miller of Red Oak, Iowa, Clayton Fritz of Oakland, Iowa; a sister, Betty Davison of Clarinda, Iowa; along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Kirsch Funereal Chapel in Shenandoah with Rev. Carl Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah. Welch, Patricia Ann Lasley - Patricia Ann Lasley Welch was born December 30, 1941 at Clarinda, Iowa to Theodore and Zola Nina (Myers) Lasley. She passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her residence in Clarinda.
Pat graduated Clarinda High School in 1960 recently celebrating her 50th class reunion. Pat was devoted and cherished her family--all three generations someday wishing to have a house big enough for all to live together! Her favorite things in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, also taking in flea markets and bingo at her favorite places.
Those who knew Pat knew she was a collector and enthusiast of salt and pepper shakers. Her music taste was 1970's both folk and rock. She had an independent streak through her not allowing anyone to help cook for those holiday dinners and even in her illness she was meticulous in housekeeping.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Zola Lasley.

Weller, Edith Lavonne French - Edith Lavonne Weller was born November 20, 1931 in Clearfield, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Louise (Shaffer) French. She passed away on Monday evening, May 23, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 3 days.

Lavonne grew up in Taylor County and graduated from Bedford High School in 1950. She later attended business school at AIB in Des Moines, Iowa. On January 4, 1953, Lavonne was united in marriage to Howard Weller at the First Baptist Church in Bedford. This union was blessed with three children, Bill, Bonnie & Nancy.

Lavonne worked as a clerk at both Olson Pharmacy and Travis Pharmacy for many years. She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah where she and Howard both served on the board of Deacons. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her coffee group in the mornings and embroidering. She had a love for country western and blue grass music. She and Howard were also active square dancers for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bill Weller; daughter-in-law, Connie Weller; brothers, JB, Bill and Paul French; sisters-in-law, Nadine and Fern French and Mary Ellen Lewellen; and a brother-in-law, Dale Lewellen.

Westenburg, Howard Rudolph - Howard Rudolph Westenburg was born September 22, 1922 near Hepburn, Iowa, the son of Rudolph Cornelius and Signe Marie (Pearson) Westenburg. He passed away on Monday evening, December 27, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 5 days. Elmwood Cemetery, Coin, Iowa.

Howard grew up in rural Page County and graduated from the Coin Consolidated High School in 1941. Following high school he served his country in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946 during World War II. He worked as a carpenter with Elton King and farmed with Darrell Murphy until he retired in 1983. On September 27, 1986 Howard was united in marriage to Mildred Penny in Blanchard, Iowa. Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and repairing things. He had been a member of the Blanchard American Legion Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mildred; and a sister, Marvel Larson.

Donna Glee Weston was born on January 29, 1933, the daughter of Charles Robert Hensel and Dorothy Mae Starlin Hensel. She was born at home in the rural Grant area. She attended the Science Vale Country School and finished 8th grade at Grant. She completed her high school education in Villisca graduating in the class of 1950. She was united in marriage to Teddy J. Weston on September 9, 1951. Six children were born to this union: Robert Dean, Roxanna Rae, Rebecca June, Teresa Lynn, George Rodney and Cynthia May. They lived near Grant all their married life.
Donna enjoyed being a housewife and mother for her family. While her children were growing up she upholstered furniture. She sewed for Bordeaux in Clarinda and worked at Delong’s Sportswear, retiring at 65.
After retirement, she worked with the Grant Community Preservationist Group to restore the Masonic Lodge. She served as their president for several years.
She enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers. She enjoyed bird watching. She was hooked on quilting after she made her first quilt for a fund raiser. She and Teddy attended the Country Music Jams where she would sing and he would play the guitar.
Donna is survived by her husband of 59 years Teddy Weston of Grant; her children: Robert (Georgia) Weston of Edgewood, New Mexico; Roxanna (Gail) Peterson of Creston; Rebecca (David) Westover of Grant; Teresa Knudson of Omaha, Nebraska; George (Laura) Weston of Elliott; and Cynthia (Wallace) Harvey of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren: Robert Weston, Wennifer Duskus, Juliette Weston, Jeremie Peterson, Jodie Heinemann, Jesse Westover, Jude Westover, Callie Westover, Nathan Knudson, Colby Weston, Jebediah Weston, Madeleine Weston, Gwendolyn Weston, Jennifer Eblen, Tiffany Murchison, and Jessica Cooper; 25 great grandchildren; brother Robert (Doris Jean) Hensel of Atlantic; sister Jacky (Bob) Samuelson of Clarinda; sister-in-law Peggy Weston of Grant; and brother-in-law Lawrence Foote of Red Oak and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Weston, Mary Josephine Fletcher - Mary Josephine Weston was born November 8, 1915 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph A. and Elizabeth H. (Mascher) Fletcher. She passed away on Friday evening, December 31, 2010 at the Fair Oaks Residential Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 23 days. Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah.

Mary grew up in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1933. After high school, she was united in marriage to Carroll Millard Weston on July 14, 1934. This union was blessed with two sons, Donavon and Michael.

Mary worked for Dr. Teachout and Dr. Connell at the veterinarian’s office. She loved small animals and enjoyed interacting with the all the people that came in and out of the office. She was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shenandoah and participated in the various ladies groups.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Donald Fletcher.

Whigham, Nancy Borthwick - Nancy Borthwick Whigham was born April 7, 1915 on the family farm in Coin, Iowa, to James Leo and Emma (Stitt) Borthwick. She grew up attending the Long Branch Country School and graduated from Amity College Springs High School. Nancy attended Tarkio College for a year obtaining her Normal Certificate for teaching. She taught for one year at country school and then was united in marriage to Charles Richard Whigham. They were married on August 20, 1936 on the porch at the family farm house in Coin, Iowa.
They started to renovate one of the oldest houses in the area and when it was livable she started a garden she enjoyed for many years and she gradually added her flowers. They started their family, enjoyed relatives from both sides, and was active in the Helping Hands neighborhood club, the Presbyterian Church in College Springs, the Farm Bureau Women, the Colfax 4-H Club, among others she was active in and enjoyed very much. Then as their children grew she supported their activities around College Springs and South Page schools. As the children started to scatter for various reasons she enjoyed traveling more, so they did travel more and farther. When she was home her kitchen and home were open for family and friends to stop by and enjoy some homemade bread for one thing. In 1981 Charles passed and Nancy decided to stay on the farm and continue her gardening, flowers, family, traveling, and church work. She was always on the go and in a hurry, so when it was mentioned to her that she might be driving a bit too fast, she disagreed. She then moved to Eiler House Assisted Living in Clarinda in June of 2004. In May of 2007 she moved to Westridge Quality Care of Clarinda. The family thanks both for their personal care and professionalism.

Helen Esther (Pullen) Whitehead was born February 8, 1916 in Page County, Iowa. She is the daughter of Edd and Mabel (Meads) Pullen. Helen passed away April 20, 2011, at the age of 95 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Helen grew up in the Page and Taylor County area. She attended High School in Villisca, Iowa. Helen married Milo (Mike) Whitehead November 26, 1938. They were blessed with three children, Phyllis, Richard and Linda.

Milo and Helen farmed north of New Market and moved to New Market, Iowa in 1983. Helen was a member of Rebekah Lodge for fifty years. She belonged to neighborhood clubs and enjoyed quilting. Helen was a member of the Church of Christ in New Market. Helen always enjoyed getting her family together for all occasions, especially at Easter. Baskets were hidden for the grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Edd and Mabel Pullen; husband of forty five years, Mike Whitehead; sister, Marie Whitehead; brothers-in-law Raymond Whitehead, Floyd Jobe and Weldon Jones; sister-in-law, Cleta Jones and great niece, Kim Stamps.

Left to cherish Helen’s memory are her children, Phyllis Scroggs and husband Gene of Clarinda, Iowa, Richard Whitehead and wife Elaine of New Market, Iowa, Linda Stevens and husband Dwayne of Clarinda, Iowa; grandchildren, Shelly Cabbage and husband Kevin of Stanton, Iowa, Angi Swanson and husband Kenny of Clarinda, Iowa, Marci Fine and husband Jeff of Platte City, Missouri, Connie Sunderman and husband Darin of Clarinda, Iowa, Carla Whitehead of Shenandoah, Iowa, Julie Jennings and husband Brent of Osage, Iowa, Susan Naylor and husband Mark of Minneola, Florida; seventeen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; and her sister’s three daughters, Judy Stamps and husband Garry, Jan Stamps and husband Carroll, Joyce Orr and husband Lanny of which “Aunt Honny” was special in their lives; sister-in-law, Cleva Jobe; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends

Willeman, Clyda C. - Clyda C. Willeman, 89, of Shenandoah, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Willeman.

Survivors include her two sons, Conrad Willema of Wenham, MA and Ron Willeman and wife Marilyn of Shenandoah; daughter, Marda Walters and husband Sam of Flowery Branch, GA; other relatives and many friends.

Williams, Alice - Alice Williams was born on a farm near Burlington Junction, Missouri, on June 30, 1908 to John and Effie (Hagey) Williams. She passed away, following a brief illness, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital on June 1, 2011.

The Williams family lived and worked on the Colwell Ranch, south of Burlington Junction; and Alice attended a country school in the area through the eighth grade. In 1923 the family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, to the house on South Avenue, where Alice lived until 2007 when she entered Garden View Care Center after a fall.

After attending Shenandoah High School for a time, Alice went to work in 1925, for the local branch of Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She and her sisters, Edna and Jane, were longtime employees of the phone company. Alice retired from her position in the business office in 1971.

Alice was a lifetime member of the Telephone Company Pioneers of America. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, where she served on a variety of committees over the years and belonged to the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Throughout her life, Alice loved to garden, read, quilt, embroider and do ceramics. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially angel food cakes (from scratch) and lemon meringue pies. She and her sisters enjoyed trips to visit their brother, Leo and his wife in Wyoming.

Alice was honored on her 100th birthday in June of 2008. Family and friends from near and far gathered to share good wishes and fond memories at a special reception. Alice’s family was very dear to her and she was happiest when she could be surrounded by them.

Two weeks after she turned 100, there was cause for more celebrating. Alice underwent successful knee-replacement surgery!!

During her time in Garden View Care Center, Alice served on the Resident Council and was an active participant in the activities there.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Floyd, Alvin, Leo, John, Nelson, and Virgil; and sisters Edna and Jane.

She is survived by her brothers Russell and Jesse of Shenandoah; other family and a host of friends

Williams, Anna Lucille Dooley - Anna Lucille (Dooley) Williams, daughter of Howard M. and Julia (Ware) Dooley, was born on January 6, 1927 in Atchison County, Missouri near Hamburg, Iowa. She was the first baby born the inaugural year of the Hamburg Reporter’s “1st Baby of the Year” contest. Lucille passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 84.
Lucille attended Lewis Rural School near Hamburg, then Eagle Rural School near Riverton, Iowa. After the family moved to Hamburg, she started 5th grade in the Hamburg Public Schools and graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1944.
On July 17, 1960, Lucille was united in marriage to Jesse Williams at the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter, Diane. Following their marriage they resided in Hamburg for a short time until moving to Shenandoah in 1962.
Following graduation from high school, Lucille worked at the Interstate Nurseries in Hamburg for many years. After moving to Shenandoah, Lucille worked for Henry Fields Nursery before going to work for the Iowan Magazine from which she retired.
Lucille was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg where she served as Sunday School secretary for many years. She later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed sewing (clothes, draperies, etc.), crocheting, knitting and being a loving homemaker to her husband and daughter. She will be remembered as a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Lucille was an extremely hard worker, an excellent seamstress and devoted friend.

Carol Jean (Williams) Williamson was born March 5, 1940 at Hepburn, Iowa, to Chester Williams and Letha (Carmichael) Williams. She grew up in the Hepburn area, attending rural schools and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1958. She met Herman Williamson who was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. The couple was united in marriage January 28, 1961 in Clarinda, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Dianna, Angie, Trina and Dwayne. After their marriage, the couple lived at Offutt Air Force Base for a number of years, moving to Ohio for several years coming back to Clarinda in the early 1970’s.
Carol worked as a typesetter at the Clarinda Company for 19 years. She later obtained and was very proud of her CNA license. She worked as a CNA at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda Mental Health and finishing her nursing career in home health care with Iowa Focus.
Carol enjoyed reading, watching TV and frequenting the casino from time to time. Her family was her passion and she enjoyed spending time with them playing games and going out to eat. Carol also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens.
Preceding Carol in death were her parents; husband, Herman (3/1996); two daughters, Dianna Williamson and Angie (Williamson) Sohl; two brothers, Howard (Pete) and Jay Dee Williams.

Wilson, Sharon Marie Cameron - Sharon Marie (Cameron) Wilson was born on January 30, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Alva and Midget Cameron. Sharon entered into the arms of her Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, surrounded by her loving and supportive family.
Sharon’s early years were spent in the community of Storm Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1963. On September 19, 1967 she was united in marriage to Robert Wilson in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived in the communities of Eugene, OR, Atlantic, IA, and Grinnell, IA before settling in Shenandoah in 1973.
While living in Shenandoah, Sharon was employed by the Shenandoah School System and later owned Countryside Floral Shop. She was also a partner with her husband in Wilson Insurance Company for over 30 years. Sharon enjoyed working with the public and cherished the many friendships that she made over the years.
Sharon was an active member of the Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and deacon. She also belonged to the Shenandoah Hospital Auxiliary, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and was on the Tannenbaum Tea Committee. She was always willing to help out those in need. Her spirit of giving, touched the hearts of many people less fortunate than her.
Some of her passions included traveling, golfing, gardening and tending to their home in Florida. Above all other things, caring for her family was of utmost importance to her. She was a loving, loyal, and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Her zest for life will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother and father-in-law.

Winegardner, James Darwin - James Darwin Winegardner was born on August 1, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of James Elmer and Jeanette Elizabeth Marsh Winegardner. He passed away on Thursday evening October 20, 2011 at his home near Shenandoah at the age of 83 years, two months and twenty days. James grew up in Des Moines, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945. He then attended Iowa State University on a football scholarship and played for the Cyclones for one year. He served in the US Army in Korea from 1946 to 1948. He continued his studies at the University of Iowa graduating in 1951. On January 12, 1951 he was united in marriage to Mary Molly Malloy in Iowa City, Iowa. This union was blessed with three daughters, Frankie, Susie, and Jenny.
Jim worked as the financial officer at Central Surveys for almost fifty years, utilizing the first mainframe computer in Shenandoah. He was also Shenandoah City Treasurer for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Elks Lodge and served on City Council.
Jim had a passion for hunting, fishing, football and golf. He enjoyed many years as an active member of the 22 Club. He refereed high school football games throughout southwest Iowa and was an avid golfer.
Jim’s lifelong interest in golf began in grade school when he worked as a caddie at Wakonda Country Club. He enjoyed the game for over seventy years, working as a rules official at many state tournaments and serving as president of the Iowa Golf Association. Above all, he valued the fellowship of many friends, young and old, in Shenandoah and Sun City, Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Molly Winegardner of Shenandoah, Iowa; his three daughters, Frankie Winegardner and husband Randy Cram of Clear Lake, Iowa, Susie Winegardner of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jenny Winegardner of Bayfield, Colorado; two grandchildren, Colin Cram and wife Shayna of Washington, D.C., Kelly Cram of Utrecht Netherlands; a sister, Jo Anne Sweet and husband Robert of Mesa, Arizona; brother-in-law Pat Malloy and wife Susie of Marshalltown, Iowa; a nephew David Sweet and wife Marsha of Story City, Iowa; a niece, Barb Gesme and husband Craig of Des Moines, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah with Rev. Rick Sleyster officiating. Funeral services for Marcia Younggren, age 82, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Friday, March 18, 2011 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Joy Vincent Thaiparambil officiating. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Marcia Jean (Fry) Younggren, 82, entered into peace on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, following a brief illness.

Marcia was born on October 13, 1928, in Hopkins, Missouri, the second eldest daughter of Floyd Charles Fry and Florence Marie (Foster) Fry. The family later moved to Clarinda, and Marcia attended school and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1946. Marcia was united in marriage to Richard Merle Bromley on July 26, 1946, and they were blessed with a son, Richard Lee Bromley on August 30, 1947. They moved to Shenandoah, and Marcia worked at Shenandoah Hospital and was a homemaker. In the early 1970’s, Marcia moved to Omaha, Nebraska and was a receptionist for OB GYN Associates. She spent many years there, and she loved her work and the people she worked with.

In the 1980’s, Marcia was introduced by mutual friends to Robert Younggren and on this “blind date”, Bob found his “Sunshine Girl”. They were married on October 10, 1987 at an old mission church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Marcia and Bob lived on Bob’s farm in rural Essex, Iowa and Marcia converted Bob into a lover of camping. They enjoyed many years of camping and traveling experiences, going south for the winter months. The “snowbirds” enjoyed a special fondness of their many months in Gulf Shores, Alabama and many close friendships were made there while enjoying many games of Aggravation, dominoes and cards.

Marcia and Bob moved to Kimberling City, Missouri in 1994 and enjoyed many close friendships there. While living in Kimberling City, they would travel to Louisiana to spend Christmas with son, Richard and his wife, Karen, and then would travel on to Gulf Shores, Alabama to stay during the remaining winter months. In October, 2009, Marcia and Bob moved to Clarinda, and local family members were happy to see them back. Many meals and fond memories were shared together.

Marcia had a very special love for all of her pets: Peg, Danny, Gidget, Choo, Andee, Abby, Patty Ann and Dewey; and she was a supporter of her local Humane Society. Memorials may be directed to the Southwest Humane Society, 692 East LaPerla Street, Clarinda, Iowa 51632.

The Ship

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails

She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand
and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
