Racine, June Alice Bay - June Alice Bay Racine was born June 24, 1936 in Rock Port, Missouri, the daughter of Ivan and Dorothy M. (Salfrank) Bay. She passed away on Tuesday morning, April 19, 2011 at her home in Shenandoah at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 26 days.

June grew up and attended school in Rock Port. She graduated from Rock Port High School in 1954. Her last two years of school she attended half time due to Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis which became debilitating in 1952. Following high school, June attended the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska.

June moved to Shenandoah in 1955. She was employed by Tidy House as a typist, KFNF Radio as a secretary and at the First Presbyterian, Congregational and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches as their secretary until 1966. She then worked for Vet-A-Mix as a receptionist/secretary until 1974 when she had to take early retirement due to health reasons.

June was the church organist at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port during junior and senior high school. After moving to Shenandoah she was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, WELCA and the Evening Circle. She was a past member of the BPW in Shenandoah and of the Emmanuel Church Choir. June was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Rock Port.

Music was always a primary interest for June even after her arthritis prevented her from participating by playing the piano or organ. She also enjoyed photography. She entered several contests over the years with her photographs. She also enjoyed needlework. But her biggest joy was her family, especially her nieces and nephews and their accomplishments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Dorothy Bay.

Survivors include her sister, Kathryn Swig of Omaha, Nebraska; her brother, John Bay of Decorah, Iowa; nieces, Rebecca June Thorsen of Long Beach, California, Melinda K. Bay of Littleton, Colorado; nephews, Christopher D. Bay of Littleton, Colorado, Brian J. Bay of Houston, Texas, Erik A. Bay of Pella, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends

Reimer, Mary Lou Marshall- Mary Lou Marshall was born April 18, 1935 in Allendale, Missouri, the daughter of Vern and Arlene (Gibson) Marshall. She passed away on Monday afternoon, January 3, 2011 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 15 days. Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Iowa.

Mary Lou grew up in the Shenandoah area and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1954. After high school she attended secretary school in Omaha for a year. She was later married to August Riemer. This union was blessed with four children, Donna, Roger, Dennis and Brian.

Mary was a homemaker who raised her four children. She worked several part time jobs with the last being a baker for the Waveland Fairground Café. She loved to read, cook and bake. She also liked to watch Roseanne and wrestling on TV. Mary really enjoyed her visits to Prairie Meadows Casino. But most of all, Mary enjoyed being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Herbert Marshall; two sisters, Betty Williams and Marie Mather; a nephew, Tommy Mather; and a granddaughter, Brandy Marie Brown.

Survivors include her children, Donna Spieker and her husband Brett of Des Moines, Iowa, Ronnie Riemer of Des Moines, Iowa, Dennis Riemer of Des Moines, Iowa, Brian Riemer and his wife Kori of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Mark, Daniel, Adam, Dawn, Arlene and Mary; one great granddaughter, Aaliyah; a brother, Robert Marshall and his wife Peggy of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends

Richards, Clarence L. - Clarence L. Richards the son of Wesley and Irene (McAdoo) Richards was born October 28, 1920 in Indianola, Iowa. He attended Mt. Hope School and the Northboro High School graduating in 1937 at the age of 16.

In 1939 Clarence enlisted in the United States Navy for six years and served his country during World War II. On June 14, 1944, Clarence was united in marriage to Clarice Norton in Washington DC at the Naval Aviation Base Chapel. Clarence received his honorable discharge in 1945 and was employed as a Maintenance Machinist for the Washington Gas and Light Company. In 1946 they moved back to Westboro to Clarice’s family farm and took over the farming operation. Clarence farmed for 42 years before retiring and moving to Mesa, Arizona. Clarence passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Elm Heights Care Center, Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 90.

Clarence was a former member of the Westboro United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was the superintendent for many years, transferring his membership to the Grace United Methodist Church when he moved to Mesa. He was active in the Blanchard Emmanuel Masonic Lodge #405, where he became a 32nd Degree Mason and was a past Master and secretary for nine years. He was also a Moila Temple Shrine member. He enjoyed baseball, football and traveling. They also enjoyed camping with the Holiday Ramblers in their motor home, and took a cruise to Alaska for their 50th wedding anniversary. Clarence was on the Board of Directors for the Iowa-Missouri Telephone Company for ten years and the president for two years. He was formerly the Chairman of the Trustees and Director for the Center Grove Cemetery.

Beside his parents and wife Clarice, Clarence was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris Glenn and Warren Darrell Richards and nephew, Donald Glenn Richards. Survivors include daughter, Charlotte Bailey and her husband James, Owensville, Missouri, and Craig Richards, Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jana Lynne Bailey, Zory, Poland, and Christyn Michele Grant and her husband Tony, Deep Gap, North Carolina; great-grandchild, Katrina Bailey Grant; siblings, Ruth Lenore Henry, and her husband Edwin, Indianola, Iowa, Ross Henry Richards and his wife Phyllis, Graham, Washington, Mary Joan Tiemann, and her husband, Warren, Westboro, John Wesley Richards and his wife Ruth, Coon Rapids, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Morris (Helen) Richards, Omaha, Mrs. Warren (Ruth) Richards, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Richardson, Vera Inez Henderson - Vera Inez (Henderson) Richardson was born July 25, 1918 in Forney, Texas to George Allen and Vernon (Carr) Henderson. While growing up, she lived in Texas until meeting and marrying Jack H. Richardson on February 10, 1959 in Athens, Texas. As a couple, they came to Iowa where they settled and started their own family with the birth of their only daughter Ruby.
Vera’s true calling in life and the thing that made her the most joyful was to be the best wife, mother and grandmother. She was of Cherokee Indian heritage and was proud to say so. Vera loved everyone unconditionally and was very kind hearted. She will be missed by many.
Vera passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; grandson Earl Wilson; great grandson Christopher Byrd; sisters: Mary Ann and Ella Faye and brothers: Othel and Chester.
Left to cherish Vera’s memory is her daughter Ruby Hodge and husband Harry of Clarinda, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 33 great-great grandchildren; sister Clara Lee Mathews of Texas; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Vera Richardson, 92, from Shenandoah, previously of Clarinda, were held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa. Burial followed the service at the Maple Hill Cemetery in College Springs, Iowa

Rima, Dawn Ella - Dawn Ella Rima, daughter of Clinton Dihel and Esther Dorothy (Dunn) Rima, was born on December 7, 1932 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 following a brief illness.

Growing up in Shenandoah, Dawn attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school she went worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Arizona and lastly for U S West Telephone Company before retiring in 1996 after 39 years of service.

In her spare time Dawn enjoyed word and number puzzles and a good book. She was a long standing member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dawn was also a member of the Paralyzed Veterans Association.

Preceding Dawn in death were her parents; sister, Joan Inman; and numerous aunts and uncles. Survivors include her two children, Kelley Rima of Shenandoah and Shelley Basch of Council Bluffs; sister, Maryann Waggener of Shenandoah; three grandchildren, Jesse Basch, Stacy (Basch) Constant and Jennifer Basch; three great grandchildren, Zoe, Ayaden and Jazzmine and one more on the way; four nephews; one niece; other relatives and friends.

Rorebeck, Dorothy Irene Baucom - Dorothy Irene Rorebeck was born January 3, 1919 in Fulton, Kansas, the daughter of Roland Edmond and Augusta (Krey) Baucom. She passed away on Tuesday morning, May 24, 2011 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 21 days.

Dorothy was raised in rural Fremont County near Randolph and Tabor graduating from Farragut High School in 1936. She then attended Commercial Extension, a business school in Omaha, Nebraska. On August 15, 1938, she was united in marriage to Russell Oscar “Bud” Rorebeck at the Methodist Church parsonage in Rock Port, Missouri. This union was blessed with four daughters, Marilyn Joanne, Sharon Diane, Carole Lynne and Karen Janelle.

One of Dorothy’s fondest memories growing up was the Sidney, Iowa Rodeo. Dorothy’s family always enjoyed attending the picnics and celebrations associated with the rodeo. She worked as an usher for the rodeo all throughout her school years. She remembered all the stars who performed through the years.

Dorothy and her husband were farmers in Page and Taylor County. She lived in rural Bedford from 1941 until 1956. She was on the Extension Council for Taylor County working with the 4-H Clubs and Home Economists and was also chairman of the Christmas Seals for the entire area. In 1957, they moved to the Shenandoah area. She was an active member in the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Dorothy enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also like gardening, canning what she grew and cooking for her family and friends. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Ladies Auxiliary where she held several offices. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and working at the food pantry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Edmond and Ray Baucom; a sister, Helen Perkins; sister-in-law, Helen Baucom; son-in-law, Ron Fichter; and a granddaughter, Christie Fichter.

Larry Wayne Ross was born June 3, 1943 in Maryville, Mo., to Eldon Ross and Minnie (Crockett) Ross. Larry passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home in rural Clarinda surrounded by many loved ones after a brief illness. Larry attended school in Maryville and graduated from Maryville High School in 1962.
Larry moved on to Lincoln, Neb., where he started his love for working on cars. He specialized in making auto body work an art form. Larry made Clarinda his home in 1971 where his three daughters, Traci, Nicole and Carrie were raised. Larry spent 40 years actively involved in the community. He was the President of the Jaycees, served many years on the Clarinda School Board, participated on many committees for the CABI; including the Sesquicentennial and RAGBRAI committees. Larry was a very creative and innovative entrepreneur. He owned his own body shop before starting his own lettering a sign business in 1977. He proudly named his business for his three daughters. TRNICA: TR for Traci, NI for Nicole and CA for Carrie. All three girls worked side by side with their Dad as he made his business a success. Larry met his companion in life, Christie, 23 years ago and they were married December 23, 1989 at the First Christian Church in Clarinda. True to his nature, Larry welcomed daughter Kenna and son Brad into his family.
Larry made family his priority. He enjoyed cooking for all of them, planning special occasions, and always manned the ice cream maker. Larry truly loved playing golf was well known for his beautiful golf swing. Golfing was not something he enjoyed doing alone; playing with friends and family was what he loved most. Larry was an adventurer at heart; enjoyed hiking, biking including RAGBRAI and planned and took many vacations. Special to him was a trip to Washington, D.C. with Christie. Along with Cathy, Christie’s sister, they took Christie’s parents A.J. and Betty to see the WWII memorial. From the time he was a boy, Larry loved the mountains and those closest to him all enjoyed vacations with him there.

Runyan, Edna May McDonald - Edna May (McDonald) Runyan was born on February 8, 1919 in Rural College Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Anna Elizabeth (Smiley) McDonald. Edna entered into eternal rest on Wednesday evening, March 9, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Edna’s early years were spent in the College Springs area where she attended school. She graduated from high school with the Class of 1936. On June 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to Winston Runyan in rural Coin, Iowa. The couple later lived in Kansas City, KS and Maryville, MO before settling down on their farm in Coin, IA.

Before she was married Edna worked for Henry Fields Nursery. After her marriage to Winston she became a loyal and dedicated wife and mother. She worked along side her husband on the farm, doing whatever tasks were needed to be done. She enjoyed cooking, doing needlework and reading. She was a longtime member of the Coin United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Winston; a sister Maribel Colter; and brother Harold McDonald.

Saner, Mary Evalyn - Mary Evalyn Saner was born on June 4, 1921, in rural Imogene, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Maggie (Laughlin) Saner. Evalyn entered into rest on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Parkcrest Home.

Evalyn was raised on a farm in the Imogene area. She graduated in 1939 from St. Patrick’s High School in Imogene. After graduation she attended Boyle’s Business College in Omaha. She moved to Shenandoah after college.

Evalyn worked for Mt. Arbor Nurseries, Clarinda Production Credit Association, and retired from KMA Radio in 1986 after 45 years of service.

Evalyn was a life long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah. Some of her passions included woodworking, gardening, bowling, garage sales, Irish music and dance. She also enjoyed spending time with her great-nephew Brian Larson.

Evalyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ambrose (Bro) Saner, John Saner and Lou Saner; sisters Angela Larson and Esther Johnson-Butler. Schaefer, Donna Ginger - Donna Ginger Schaefer was born December 12, 1950 at Shenandoah, Iowa to Don and Patsy (Mondt) Ginger. She grew up and graduated from Essex High School in 1969. She married Verlin Schafer on June 3, 1989 at a sunrise service at the Earl May Rose Garden in Shenandoah. They resided in Essex until moving to Louisiana, Missouri, where they lived for four years and she worked as a dental assistant. They then lived in Wahoo for three years, before moving the Gering in 1997, where she was presently employed as the Emmanuel Congregational Church secretary.

She was a member of the church, loved to read, and spoil her grandchildren. Donna will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a wife who loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her God. She never complained of the hardships she was presented throughout her life, but met them head on. She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

Sickman, Helen Miriam Carlson - Helen Miriam Sickman was born September 25, 1924 near Bethesda, Iowa, the daughter of Anton E. and Laura F. (Peterson) Carlson. She passed away on Friday morning, January 14, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 20 days. St John's Lutheran Cem near Westboro.

Helen grew up near Bethesda and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1942. She then attended Teachers College for one year. On October 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Sickman at Bethesda. Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Miriam and Gery.

Helen worked as a teacher and then as a cashier at Montgomery Wards. She sold Avon for over 38 years. Most recently she was the officer in charge at the Northboro Post Office. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Westboro, Missouri and was active in the LCW group. She loved to bake cookies and work with her flower boxes. She always looked forward to selling her Avon.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marie Malmberg and Katherine Yeske.

Sievers, Penny Johnson - Penny (Johnson) Sievers, 53, of Newell, Iowa and formerly of the Shenandoah/Essex area passed away on Sunday,February 20, 2011 at her home in Newell following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside inurnment services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26th at 4:30 p.m. at the Essex Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to the "I Will Not Worry Foundation" or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life gathering for Penny will be held at the Shenandoah Elks Club on Hwy 59 immediately following the graveside service at Essex on Saturday.

Penny was born March 21, 1957 in Sandwich, Illinois, the daughter of Terry and Marcene Johnson. She grew up on a farm north of Shenandoah, where she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools.

She graduated with the Class of 1975. Following high school graduation, Penny recieved her associates degree from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.

Penny enjoyed cooking, flower arranging and most of all chachinging. She was happiest being with people and helping others. Penny started the "I Will Not Worry Foundation" to express a loving concern to others affected by cancer.

In 2009, Penny was honored to be the recipient of the June E. Nylen Star award. Penny shared her smile with others as a volunteer at the hospital. She enjoyed the friendships she made with her Bosom Body Buddies and also enjoyed the trips she took with her "gray hairs".

Penny's most recent employment was at Buena Vista Clinic where she was a medical assistant. Penny enjoyed the friendships she made through her employment.

George Elvon Simmons was born at Clarinda, Iowa on December 24, 1955, to Roland Simmons and Hillis (Hayworth) Simmons. George entered into rest July 27, 2011 at his home in Corning, Iowa. George grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. After returning home from the service he worked various jobs, his favorite was working on the asphalt road crew. George married Tammy Schebaum on July 12, 1986. To this union two daughters were born, Amanda Ruth Simmons and Amber Rose Simmons. George love fishing, Adams County Speedway stock car races, cooking (especially fried chicken), spending time with his family and friends.
Preceding George in death were his parents; three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Simmons and daughters, Amanda and Amber all of Corning, Iowa; siblings, Jean Lawrence of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Larry Simmons and wife Debbie of Newburg, Missouri, Colleen Hines and husband Joe of Blanchard, Iowa, Ann Ridnour and husband Larry of Gravity, Iowa, Ed Simmons and wife Rose of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces, nephews; multiple friends; and several self adopted children.

Sparks, Barbara - Funeral services for Barbara Sparks, 61 of Villisca, will be 10:30 Monday at Wolfe Funeral Home with interment at Clarinda Cemetery. Family visitation will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Wolfe Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to a fund established in Barbara's name.

Barbara was born Dec 16, 1949, east of New Market, Iowa to Cecil and Helen (Davison) Sparks. She entered into rest Wednesday morning, May 18, 2011, at Alegent Health in Corning at the age of 61.

Barbara attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs and was tutored by Lois Rusk for one year. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 8998 in Villisca. She helped the auxiliary with their Children’s Christmas Store and with bingo. She also served as their Historian.

Barbara lived with her parents, Cecil and Helen, helping Helen with the yard work and keeping the kitchen tidy. She also lived at home with her sister Margaret until her health failed. In June of 2010 she became a resident of the Villisca Good Samaritan Home.

Barbara loved to go shopping for clothes, going out to eat, and traveling with her family. She was taken care of by her special care giver and sister, Margaret.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Helen Sparks.

Standage, Charles Everette - Charles Everette Standage, was born on May 12, 1921 in Ravenna, Nebraska; the son of Wayne and Catherine (Duncan) Standage. He entered eternally into rest on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Everette’s early years were spent in Ravenna until his 8th grade year in school, when the family moved to the Sand Hills in Chambers, Nebraska. He graduated from Chambers High School with the Class of 1939. Everette later moved to Omaha to attend a trade school, but returned to Chambers to farm. He was united in marriage to Rose Ann Coday in Neligh, Nebraska on April 16, 1942. Following their marriage Everette was drafted into the United States Army where he served is country with pride, during WWII from 1942 until 1945. During their married years the couple resided in Cambridge, Ravenna, Atkinson and Valley, all of which are in Nebraska, before making their home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

While living in Atkinson Everette worked as a mechanic at a service station. When the family moved to Valley, Nebraska he worked for Boardman's Garage until going to work for Valmont Industries. In 1974 the family moved to Shenandoah, where Rose and Everette purchased Tebbes Lanes. They enjoyed running the bowling alley until 1983. Everette later went on to work in the maintenance department for the Shenandoah Hospital until his retirement in 1989. Still feeling the urge to work, he made deliveries for Jay Drug and worked as a Shipmate for the Bellevue Queen.

Some of his interests included fishing, bowling, woodworking, playing cards, camping, traveling, working on puzzles, and going to the casino with his friends. In the last few years he has enjoyed spending time fishing with his good friend, Emilio who was like family to him. He also enjoyed visiting with family and following the children and grandchildren’s activities.

He was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, granddaughter Amy Stenglein, daughter Anita “Gayle” Stenglein, and siblings Lawrence and Dean Standage.

Steeve, Berniece Sophie Marie Niebrugge - Berniece Sophie Marie (Niebrugge) Steeve was born June 8, 1921 at Lone Elm, Missouri to Oscar and Emily (Rassmussen) Niebrugge. After attending school In Lone Elm, she met and married Arthur Steeve on February 14, 1942 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lone Elm.
The couple moved to northwest of Clarinda and farmed. Berniece was active in gardening and caring for the animals. She was active in the quilting group, Country Garden Club and Friendly Farmers Wives, card clubs and LWML at the church. She cared for a number of people in their homes throughout her last years, along with opening her own home to younger ones when needed. Countless peoples’ lives were made better because of the care she gave while she could. During the last several months she had to leave the farm and resided at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab in Clarinda until she passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 at the age of 90.
Berniece was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art in 1979, and brother Hillard Niebrugge in 1991.
She is survived by children Norma Hughes and husband Charles of Clarinda, Iowa, and Ralph Steeve and wife Joyce of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law Emily Niebrugge of Lone Elm, Missouri; grandchildren Terry Hughes and wife April, Denise McClish and husband Wes, Bradley Hughes and wife Wanda, Shawn Hughes and wife Kendra, and Rosanne Cavin and husband Zachary, all of Clarinda, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Steffen, Eulah Leigh Schrader - Eulah Leigh Steffen, age 90, passed on the morning of July 29, 2011, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center Hospital in Clarinda, Iowa.
Her funeral service is planned for Monday at 1:30, August 1, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. There were Open Visitation on Saturday morning from 8:00 to noon and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 when the Family will Meet with Relatives and Friends until 6:00 P.M.
The committal service will take place at Weirich Cemetery near Lyman, IA.

Stewart, Glenn E. - Glenn E. Stewart, 79, of Springfield, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, Ill.

Mr. Stewart was born July 10, 1932 near Hopkins, Mo., the son of Glenn M. and Opal F. (Clayton) Stewart. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1950 and married Paula Reaney on October 6, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering and started with Caterpillar in East Peoria, Ill. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958, earning the rank of First Lieutenant. He continued his professional career with Fiat-Allis until his retirement.

Glenn was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and Ansar Temple. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed sailing with friends.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter, Lynda (Bob) Trimpe of Bloomington, Ill.; son, Paul (Carolyn) Stewart of Carl Junction, Mo.; daughter Susan (Jeff) Gaines of Springfield, Ill.; and grandchildren, Megan Trimpe, Sarah Trimpe, Alyssa Trimpe, Mary Trimpe, Aaron Stewart, Cara Stewart, Dylan Stewart and Reaney Gaines.

Stoner, Reba L. White - Reba L. Stoner was born in Page County, Iowa to parents Wilbur and Gladys White on March 27, 1930, joining sister Mariana. Reba attended Coin, Iowa grade and high schools, graduating in 1947. She married Wayne Thompson and to this union was born daughter, Beverly Kay, in 1947. They divorced in 1951.

In 1955, Reba met and married the love of her life, John W. Stoner and began this new marriage with a move to Portland, Oregon in 1956. While in Portland, Reba worked as an occupational nurse for Lipman Wolfe and Company. They remained in Portland until 1969 when the death of John’s father returned them to their deep Midwest roots and the farming community of Rock Port, Missouri. They would spend many happy years with John returning to farming and Reba working at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa.

Reba and John celebrated 50 years of marriage in April 2005, followed by John’s death in January 2006. With health issues following her husband’s death, Reba returned again to Portland to live with her daughter and was lovingly cared for by Eva Meindl until the time of her death. Reba passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Beverly, at the age of 81 years.

Reba’s greatest joy was her home and family. She was smart, creative, stubborn, patriotic, strong, determined, dependable, loyal, wise, and many called her “friend.”

Besides her parents, Reba was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2006 and sister, Mariana in 2007. Reba is survived by her daughter, Beverly K. Crooks, Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Lisa M. Behrndt, Daniel P. Wilcoxen, Amy K. Richard, Emily L. Washington, all of Portland, Oregon, and Scott Crooks of Beijing, China; great-grandchildren, Bryan Behrndt, Michael James, Samantha Wilcoxen, Kailey Wilcoxen, Marcus Wilcoxen, Madeline Wilcoxen, Mason Wilcoxen, Austin Harrison, Malia Richard, Zoe Richard, and Sydnee Washington.

Sump, Dorothy Emma Muller - Funeral services for Dorothy Sump, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Westridge Care and Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, with Pastor Nathan Dudley officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 4:00 -6:00 p.m., Friday, April 22 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda. Dorothy Emma Sump entered into rest April 19, 2011 at the age of 94 years. She was born January 27, 1917, on the Muller farm southwest of Yorktown, Iowa to Henry and Emma (List) Muller.

Dorothy was baptized by Reverend Horn at her home on February 18, 1917 and confirmed April 13, 1930 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, Iowa where she was a lifelong member. Dorothy attended St. Paul Lutheran School for eight years, Yorktown High School for three years, and after its closing, completed high school in Clarinda.

Dorothy married Edgar Sump November 26, 1938. The couple farmed until Edgar died in 1955. Dorothy was left to raise her family of three children: Alan, Barbara and Roger as well as maintain the farm.

In 1964, Dorothy moved to Clarinda after a tornado destroyed part of the farm. She worked at the Page County Clerk of Court office for thirteen years. Dorothy was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, involved in Ladies Aid, LWML, and sewing for Lutheran World Relief. Her life was filled with family and special interests of baking, flowers, playing cards, embroidery work and quilting.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar Sump; son, Roger Sump; four brothers, Walter, Herbert, Francis and Arthur Muller; sister, Ada Mueller.

Sunderman, Clifford Harry - Clifford Sunderman, 90, passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 8, 2011, at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah.

Survivors include his two daughters, Karlette Thornton of Coin and Charmaine Sunderman of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine E. (Warner) Sunderman in 2006.

Clifford Harry Sunderman was born on August 31, 1920 on the family farm northwest of Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Emil Frank and Minnie Clara (Meyers) Sunderman. Clifford entered into eternal peace on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the blessed age of 90 years.
Clifford attended Immanuel Lutheran Church which was north of his home. He was baptized on September 12, 1920 and confirmed on March 25, 1934. His memory verse was “He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died from them, and rose again.” 2 Cor. 5-15. Clifford was very serious about his faith and walked with the Lord throughout his entire life. He attended the Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School through the eighth grade. He then attended the Clarinda High School and graduated with the Class of 1938. A youthful highlight, at age 15, Clifford placed 1st in his division and 3rd overall with his Angus steer at the American Royale in Kansas City, MO.
On March 17, 1946 he was united in marriage to Maxine Elizabeth Warner in the Bethesda Lutheran Church. The couple resided in on a farm in rural Coin where Clifford and Maxine raised their daughters. He retired from farming in 1983 and the couple moved to Shenandoah in June of 1984.
Clifford had a passion for raising crops. He began his farming career in 1938. His also enjoyed tending to his farrow to finish purebred SPF Hampshire herd and selling breeding stock for twenty years.
He served on the board of Star Telephone in Coin and was a member when they converted to the “dial” system now known as IAMO Telephone Company. He also served on many church boards and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also named and advertised in the Hampshire Herdsman Magazine. Clifford was an avid reader throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed reading up on his hog operation and how to make it better. He also spent many hours reading his Bible. Later in life he enjoyed listening to the Lutheran Hour on the radio and made dozens of cassettes of church sermons and special music so that he could enjoy listening at his leisure. During his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and making many projects for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty years, Maxine, two brothers Mervil Sunderman and Roger Sunderman, sisters-in-law Mabel Sunderman, Lyda Sunderman, Milda Sunderman, Florence Sunderman and Mary Brownlee and two nephews David Sunderman and Mark Sunderman. Sunderman, Lyle Wesley - Lyle Wesley Sunderman age 74 of Clarinda, IA was called home by his Lord on June 23, 2011 at 11:55 pm at the Clarinda Regional Health Center.
He was born Dec. 31, 1936 at Hepburn, IA. He was a welcome tax deduction for his parents, Lorenz & Beulah (Hughes) Sunderman. Lyle attended McCunn, Lincoln, & Immanuel Lutheran Schools and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1955. Lyle married the love of his life, Ardith Herzberg on October 12, 1958. They were blessed with three children: Alan, Marlin and Rhonda.
Lyle followed in his father's footsteps as a farmer except for 3 months in California at a 9 to 5 job. The love of the land called him back to Iowa.
Lyle was a 5th generation member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. His great-great-grandfather was a charter member. Lyle felt the need to start out the week right by taking the family to Sunday worship and Bible class. Throughout the years he served in many offices &
committees.
Music was an important part of his life. At the age of 11, he played the coronet with the Clarinda Municipal Band. Lyle's mother arranged music for him & his brother, Norman, who played the trombone. They entertained at many gatherings throughout the area. He sang bass in the "Fuzz & Shine Quartet" with Joel, Ron, and Jerry Wagoner. They sang at many funerals and other events including the community production of Music Man in 1987 and 1996. Lyle & Ardith sang in the church choir most of their married life.
A favorite hobby was fishing the local ponds & Lake of the Woods, MN. A yearly family trip to Minnesota provided many good memories and fish fries at home.
Lyle spent many years along the sidelines cheering on his children in all their endeavors. Later on, watching his grandsons and granddaughters made him the proudest. Hours and miles added up since he was their biggest fan.
Cowboy Church enriched his faith by spreading God's Word through song. He attended all services and concerts in the park & felt privileged when asked to sing with them. He was thankful that God gave him breath to sing even though he needed a high level of oxygen the last several years.
Lyle was preceded into death by his parents Lorenz and Beulah Sunderman. He is survived by his wife Ardith of Clarinda, IA, son, Alan Lyle Sunderman and his wife Denise of Clarinda, IA and their children Austin Lyle Sunderman and wife Alison, Elijah Alan, Cluj, Romania, and Derek Alan Sunderman and wife Kristin and their son Beck Thomas of West Des Moines, IA, son, Marlin Jay Sunderman and wife Mary and son Daniel Flor of Edina, MN, and daughter, Rhonda Sue Pitman and husband Douglas and their children Julie JoAnna, Lisa Mae, and Samuel Lyle Pitman of Granger, IA, brother Norman Sunderman, and wife Hazel, Plattsmouth, NE, and numerous family members and friends.

Funeral services for Herbert Tally, age 82, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Monday, March 7, 2011 at Golden Living Center, Maryville, Missouri will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Mitch Grossoehme officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa.

Herbert Dow Tally was born October 20, 1928, near Clinton, Missouri the son of William Dow Tally and Mary Jane (Hamilton) Tally. He was the youngest of twelve children. Herbert was a 1947 graduate of Clarinda High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. Herbert and Ruth Elaine Mollenkopf were united in marriage on April 22, 1956 at Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with five children, Denise, Brian, Keith, Norman, and Kevin.

Herbert believed Jesus’ words of “you must be born again”. In January of 1956, he made Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior.

Herbert and Ruth farmed and raised their children in East River Township, Page County. Farming was a way of life for Herbert and he enjoyed the farm. Through the years, he has been a member of Farm Bureau, was a director of the Clarinda Co-op and a 4-H leader. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Clarinda and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and was a member of Gideons International. Herbert’s family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Preceding Herbert in death were his parents; brothers, Connor, Paul, Melvin and Elbert Tally; sisters, Lola Kerns, Dora Combs, Beulah Slaight, Frances Williams, Marjorie Little and Zula Ferguson.

Terry, Wilma Mae Hockman - Wilma Mae (Hockman) Terry was born on November 16, 1917 in Clearmont, Missouri, the daughter of Clark and Eunice (McFerrin) Hockman. Wilma entered into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday morning, March 22, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, at the blessed age of 93 years.

She was raised in the Clearmont community where she attended school. She was later united in marriage to Donald Terry and this union was blessed with the birth of ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Donald passed away in 1977.

Wilma worked as a nurses aid in Storm Lake, Iowa for a nursing home until she received her LPN in 1958. She later moved to Shenandoah where she worked for Mount Arbor Nurseries and Henry Fields until her retirement in 1980. Following her retirement she worked summers for J & G Wholesale in Wyoming.

Wilma loved the Lord with her whole heart. When she was able to attend church she was a regular member of the Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah. She also believed in supporting other Christian Ministries such as Billy Graham and Benny Henn. She loved to journal her thoughts and write letters. She loved to sew and embroidered many pillowcases for her family, which they will always cherish. Her family was her true treasure, her pride and joy!

She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Terry; daughter Donna Haddenham; and brothers Raymond and Stanley Hockman.

Thomason, Dewey DeRoy - Dewey DeRoy Thomason was born on September 18, 1924, in Nyssa, Oregon, the son of Charles Noah and Anona Bertha Otelia (Garmen) Thomason. Dewey entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Dewey was raised on the family ranch in Nyssa. He was an active member of the local 3-H Club, before it was known as 4-H. The family moved to Vallejo, California where he graduated from Vallejo Evening High School with the Class of 1943, proudly wearing the uniform of the United States Army, as he had already enlisted to serve his country during WWII. During his service career he was stationed at Presidio of San Francisco and Guadalcanal Island during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign.

On April 21, 1946, which happened to be Easter Sunday, Dewey was united in marriage to Sophia-Louisia “Sandie” Merkel in Bismarck, ND at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with 52 years of marriage.

During his career Dewey was the owner of the Log Cabin Bar in Medora, ND, drove a truck for McKee Trucking and was accident and citation free for 8 years. Dewey worked as a field underwriter for New York Life Insurance in Bismarck until his retirement in 1998 after 36 years with the company.

He was a 50 year member of the Lions Club International, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 et 8, and German from Russia Heritage Society. Dewey had a passion for traveling. Some of his adventures took him to Russia, Australia, Alaska, Europe (several times) and all over the United States. He attended the Guadalcanal Veterans annual convention for the last 10 years. He enjoyed jazz and ragtime music (of which he had an extensive collection of music), attending festivals in Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sophia-Louisia “Sandie”; and sister Mary Lou Buss Freitas.

Those left to honor his memory include his son David C. Thomason and wife Deborah of Bismarck, ND; daughter Jean “Jeanne” T. Tino, Lloyd - Lloyd Tino, 75, formerly of Clarinda, passed away at his home in Pleasant Hill, Calif., on September 4, 2011 following a short battle with cancer.
Lloyd was born August 23, 1936 to Fred and Emma (Henneman) Tino at their home in East River Township. e was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda. He graduated from Clarinda High School and following graduation, he went to California. He served in the Army. Lloyd worked for Pacific Gas and Electric until he took early retirement.
On April 18, 1964 he married Gayle Kulik in California. To this union two daughters were born.
Preceding him in death were his parents. Left to honor his memory is his wife, Gayle, of the home; daughters and son-in-laws, Rhonda and Ken Buckles, and Valerie and Pat Hancock; grandchildren Annemarie and Liam Hancock, all of California; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Kathy Tino of Clarinda, Iowa, and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Leona Troester, age 88, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Eiler House, Clarinda, Iowa will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Daryl Tompkins officiating. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, March 18, 2011, 5-7 p.m. at Ritchie Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Leona Elizabeth Troester was born November 14, 1922 in Franklin County, Iowa, at her parent’s home, to Fred Imerman and Freida (Dohrman) Imerman. She grew up in Franklin County, living in Latimer and later moving to a farm outside of Latimer. Leona met Rolland when he came to work for her father on the farm. The couple was united in marriage on May 2, 1948 in Hampton, Iowa. They were blessed with five children, Keith, Dennis, Janiece, Joyce and Diane.

The couple lived and farmed in Hampton, Nebraska for a number of years, returning to the Latimer area to farm in 1954. In 1963, the couple moved to Clarinda, Iowa where they owned the Clarinda Bowl until 1972. They left Clarinda for a number of years, moving to northern Iowa where they owned a bowling lane and returned to Clarinda for retirement. Rolland passed away October 14, 1999. Leona moved to the Eiler House shortly after Rolland’s death.

Leona was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Her family was her life, always being involved in their lives. Her grandchildren spent a lot of time with her in the summer. Those were special times for Leona. She kept a journal for much of her life and enjoyed the memories of the past. She enjoyed her garden and canning the produce. Leona enjoyed needle point projects and giving them as gifts to her children and grandchildren. Leona and Rolland were a team and were good with the public. Leona thoroughly enjoyed the hard work the bowling lanes required. She was known for her great sense of humor.

Preceding Leona in death were her parents; husband, Rolland Troester; brother, Victor Imerman; sisters, Edna Oltman and Meta Schermer.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Keith Troester and wife Diana of Adel, Iowa, Dennis Troester of Clarinda, Iowa, Janiece Vardaman and husband Clint of Braddyville, Iowa, Joyce Kirchner and husband Joe of Clarinda, Iowa, Diane Kay Troester of Woodward, Iowa; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Lydia Muhlenbruck of Hampton, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Leona will be missed but her love and inspiration will live on through her family.

Tyler, Robert Eugene - Robert Eugene Tyler was born on January 3, 1919 in Villisca, Iowa the son of Henry Filson and Ethelda Amelia (Armstrong) Tyler. Bob entered into eternal peace on Sunday evening, June 12, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 92 years.
Bob graduated from Villisca High School with the Class of 1936. Following graduation he attended Simpson College where he received his Bachelors Degree. On January 18, 1941 Bob married his college sweetheart, Marian Laura Benton in Malvern, Iowa. In 1943 Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country with pride installing radar training equipment.
In 1946, Marian and Bob moved to Shenandoah where they started a bottling business. They bottled beverages for Coca Cola, 7-Up, Dr. Pepper, and other products. Bob and his brother also owned bottling plants in Nebraska and Texas as well.
Bob was quite active in the community and held many offices in several local lodges and clubs. In 1947 he worked on the Veterans Village Project, in 1950 he served as the President of the Red Cross, in 1952 he served as Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, in 1953 he served as the Rainbow Dad, from 1953-1954 he was President of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors, in 1954 he was Director of Shenandoah Industries (in later years also served that organization as Treasurer, Vice President, President, and served on the Board of Directors), from 1959-1961 he was on the Board of Directors for the United Fund and also that year received the “Man of the Year Award” from the Jay Cee’s, in 1961 served on the Advisory Board of Hand Hospital (a term which lasted until 1969), in 1965 served as President of Rotary, from 1967-1968 served on the Board of Directors of Rotary, from 1963-1965 was a Steward of the Methodist Church, from 1965-1967 was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Methodist Church, from 1967-1969 was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Methodist Church, he also helped the church with several financial drives, lay speaking duties, men’s brotherhood, served on the building committee, the remodeling committee, and pastoral relations committee. Bob was a member of the Mason’s, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, the Flying Club, the American Legion, and the Elks Club. He also served on the Simpson College Alumni Board, served on the Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado Bottlers Boards, was President of the Iowa Manufacturers and was Vice President of the Iowa Bottlers of Carbonated Beverages from 1968-1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marian Tyler; and siblings Geraldine, Donald, Kenneth, Carolyn, and Marilyn. Those left to honor his memory include his children Richard Tyler of Denver and Linda Tyler of Shenandoah; grandchildren Justin Tyler of Denver and Tiffany Stanley of Riverton; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild

Underwood, Geraldine Ness - Geraldine (Ness) Underwood, the daughter of Jennie Florence Kendall and Charles Edward “Ed” Ness, was born on August 30, 1917, at Randolph, Iowa and entered into rest on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Irmo, South Carolina.
Geraldine graduated from Randolph High School in 1934. The family moved to Tabor that summer. Geraldine took a post graduate secretarial course at Tabor High School, later attending and graduating from Boyles Business College in Council Bluffs. The family moved to Shenandoah in 1937.
Geraldine married Glenn Clark Underwood at Tarkio, MO., on her 21st birthday, August 30, 1938. They had one daughter Kerry Lynne.
Geraldine was a long time employee of Earl May Seed and Nursery Co. (seasonally from 1937). During WWII in 1943 she worked for a few months at the Army Air Base at Dalhart, Texas, where Clark was stationed. Then she lived with her parents in San Diego while Clark was overseas and a Prisoner Of War for 14 months. Their daughter Kerry Lynne, was born at the Naval Hospital on April 19, 1944. After Clark’s return from service the family lived in San Diego and Santa Ana, before returning to Shenandoah.
After returning to Shenandoah in 1946 Geraldine worked seasonally as a secretary in the Stores Office at May’s, and in 1954 started full time. She received her 25 year watch in 1979 and retired August 27, 1982.
Clark and Geraldine lived most of their married life in Shenandoah except a few months in Rock Port, MO.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clark; parents; a brother, Harry Kendall Ness; sister Elaine Mashburn; and a grandson Brett England. Survivors include her daughter Kerry Lynne England and husband Tom of Columbia, S.C.; grandsons, Brady and Bryce and wife Jenny; great grandchildren Eliza and Crosby England; several nieces and nephews.
In earlier years Geraldine enjoyed bowling. The family made many interesting camping trips during the years and have beautiful photos of the southwest. Later in years she and Clark enjoyed working on crossword puzzles.
Geraldine was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Ex-Prisoner of War organization.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at the Randolph Cemetery in Randolph, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Pastor Jaye Johnson. Special music was "How Great Thou Art". Casket bearers were Brady England, Bryce England, Dan Allen and Jeff Allen
