P. DANNER 84 MONDAY – Monday was the eighty-fourth birthday of P. Danner of Blanchard, Ia., who will be remembered by older residents as one of Shenandoah’s best business men for a number of years. He built up a large trade and had a popular slogan, “P. Danner, the Nice Man to Do Business Wit.” He conducted a feed and grain business.

The Sentinel-Post has received the following expressive message from him: Feb 7, 1832 vs Feb 7, 1916. Greetings. Eight-four years have passed away since these blue eyes beheld the day. But little work my hands can do, my trembling legs are feeble too, but still I can see, and hear, can read, can think and understand, can eat and sing and pray and vote the prohibition ticket. PUTNAM DANNER IS DEAD – Body of Blanchard Man is Taken to Burlington Junction [Missouri]

Blanchard, Ia, Feb 26 – Putman Danner or “Grandpa Danner” as he was most generally called, died at 3:30 o’clock Saturday morning after an illness of several weeks. Mr and Mrs Danner have made their home here for a number of years and have a host of friends who will greatly miss him. He was a faithful member of the M.E. church and was always present at church when he was able to do so.

He leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs Charles, of Loveland, Colo., who with her husband have been spending the winter here, and three sons, Frank Danner of Canada, Ralph Danner of California and D.G. Danner of this place.

The funeral services were held at home Monday morning conducted by Reverend Parker. The flowers were many and beautiful. The remains were taken to Burlington Junction [Missouri] for burial. Sentinel-Post, Shenandoah, Iowa, Feb 28, 1917
