Tetanus Proves Fatal
Phillip Plunkett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Plunkett,
Dies as Result of Running Rusty Nail in Foot Two Weeks Ago.
As the result of running a rusty nail in his foot about two weeks ago, Phillip W. Plunkett, aged 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Plunkett, 302 South Center street, died at 6:50 this morning of tetanus. The young man had been confined to his bed only since last Saturday.
Phillip William Plunkett was born in this city Sept. 15, 1888, and had spent his entire life here. He was formerly employed as an apprentice in the machine shops of the Iowa Central. At the time he was injured he was doing some work in clearing away the debris caused by the fire that destroyed the Plunkett barn. Mr. Plunkett was a member of the local council of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Plunkett is survived by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters. The brothers are Edward Plunkett, Jr., John and Oliver Plunkett, of this city; and the sisters Misses Julia, Nellie, Ann, and Ruth Plunkett, of this city, and Mrs. R.E. Greek, of Fort Wayne, Ind.
