The following information is from a book published by the Bussey American Legion Post No. 505 in 1947. Businesses and individuals from Bussey, Albia, Knoxville, Tracy, Attica, Hamilton and Lovilia, Iowa provided financial assistance. The Post dedicated the book as "a memorial to our buddies, who were killed in action."

Entered service March 19,1940. Overseas aboard U.S.S. Fulton. Fulton was
at Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Went to Sidney, Australia, received
shore duty, made Chief, 1942. Served with Marines for 2 years on Guadalcanal,
Thiou, New Guinea, Luzon, and Philippine Islands. In Navy 6 years, still
in service. |

Entered service December 15,1941. On active service on U.S.S. Vincennes,
heavy cruiser for 8 months. It was sunk August 9, 1942. Was transferred
to light cruiser, Santa Fe, 12 months, then Wisconsin, battleship. Overseas
26 months with 6th and 9th fleet. Decorations: 9 battle stars, 6 silver
and 3 bronze. Discharged October, 1945 |

“Sea Barb”. Discharged April 5, 1946 at Ft Leavenworth, Kansas.
Received Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theatre and Asiatic-Pacific Theater
with 1 battle star, Victory Medal, 36 months in the Army. |

Entered service September 12, 1938. Overseas Reykjavik, Iceland, June
1941 with 1st Marine Provisional Brigade. Returned to States March 1942.
Again went overseas in Pacific area, October 21, 1942 with 2nd Marine
Division, participated in 5 major battles. Decorations: Purple Heart,
Presidential Citation for Battle of Tarawa. Returned to States January
1945. Again sent overseas to Tsingtoo, China May 15, 1946 with 4th Marine
Division Reinforcements. At present time is still there. |
