A
group of people desiring a Pentecostal church, banded together to
worship, in Winterset, in 1930. Under the direction of various
Foursquare ministers and laymen, they continued in rented
buildings until 1937 at which time a small church was built at 217
E. Washington.
In
1939 the church, having a membership of 25, was organized and
chartered in affiliation with the International Church of the
Foursquare Gospel, with the purpose of preaching Christ as Savior,
Healer, Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, and Soon Coming King.
The
parsonage was built next door to the church in 1949 and is still
in use by the church today.
In
December 1963, the congregation, having outgrown its facilities,
purchased the United Presbyterian Church on the corner of 3rd and
E. Court in Winterset.
Those
having served this church as pastors are as follows: Rev.
Athey, Rev. Ennis, Mr. Kale (Layman), Rev. & Mrs. Thompson,
Rev. Willey, Rev. & Mrs. Mauck, Rev. & Mrs. McLaird, Rev.
& Mrs. Brown, Rev. & Mrs. Hansen, Rev. & Mrs.
Norrison, Rev. & Mrs. Carson, Rev. & Mrs. Rosenberger,
Rev. & Mrs. Bussinger, Rev. & Mrs. Updike (present
pastor).
The
church continues to this present time, with several of the
original members remaining, as a missionary and evangelical
congregation, believing the evangelism of the world is the supreme
task of those who follow Christ.
