FAGAN, GEORGE W. was born on September 18, 1864, at Ripley, Ill. He married Hulda Rudloff, of Larchwood, on June 16, 1909, at her home. Hulda was born in September of 1887. The couple had one son, Gilbert, who is married and lives at Glen Ellyn, Illinois. George worked in the Larchwood bank for several years. Hulda passed away in 1970, George now lives in Camdenton, Missouri.
FEAY, EDMUND (ED) was born July 12, 1872, at McGregor, Iowa. At the age of 15 he moved to Larchwood, where he lived most of the rest of his life. He was united in marriage with Ella Brown in 1893, and to this union one son was born, Jesse, of California. Ella passed away soon after the birth of her son. In 1900 Edmund married Hilma E. Lundquist at Rock Rapids, Iowa. Hilma was born October 3, 1879, at Lindsborg, Kansas. Ed and Hilma had 11 children, Arthur and Hilma Mae (both deceased); Herbert, Washington, D.C.; Dallas, Rockville Centre, NewYork; Walter, Belton, Texas; Ilean (Mrs. Henry Lokay), Chicago, Illinois; Maurice, Columbus, Ohio; Everett, Fresno, California; Raymond, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Donald, New York City, New York; and Carrell, Orinda California. During the 30-year period from 1921 through 1951, except for a short time during World War II, one or more of the Feay's was enrolled at the State University of Iowa. Ed and Hilma farmed near Larchwood for a short time and then moved to town, where Ed operated a dray line, worked in an implement shop, and managed a grain elevator. He also operated the municipal electric plant and was town constable. Ed passed away July 26, 1936, and Hilma on April 27, 1949.
FEAY, HENRY SAMUEL
Feay, Henry Samuel was born July 27, 1830 at Point Marion, Pennsylvania, and moved to McGregor, Iowa and then to Larchwood around 1885. They were the parents of eight children, Samuel, Margaret, Oliver, Elizabeth, Katherine, Mary, Henry Edmund, and John. Henry was a carpenter. He passed away in 1914 at the home of his son, Oliver, near Granite, Iowa.
FEAY, OLIVER JESSE was born July 5, 1861, at McGregor, Iowa. On December 12, 1896, he married Lena Nelson, who was born May 25, 1872, near Canton, South Dakota. They became the parents of six children-Evelyn (deceased); John Henry, married to Edith Archer, Carrie (Mrs. Edward Tweedt), George, married to Violet Kroeger, and Alexander, who married Joy Dodd, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Oliver and Lena farmed between Larchwood and Klondike. Oliver passed away April 12, 1932, and Lena on January 20, 1950.
FEAY, SAMUEL ALEXANDER was born in January of 1852, in Pennsylvania, and married Sarah Gray on February 13, 1879. They were the parents of two sons, Virgil and George (both deceased). The family farmed in Centennial Township. In 1892 Samuel was elected county auditor and after his term of office the Feays remained in Rock Rapids, Iowa., and operated a hardware store. After Samuel's death in 1908, Sarah returned to spend her remaining days in Larchwood.
FLESSNER,HENRY C.and Harmke and their oldest children, Tillie, Anna, and Owen (all deceased) were all born in Ostfrieslau, Germany. They migrated to America in 1881 and settled in Ackley, Iowa. Their other three children, Minnie, Henry and Jake (all deceased) were born in Wellsburg, Iowa. They came to Steen, Minnesota, in 1889 and then farmed near Ben Clare, South Dakota, from 1900 till 1909, when they moved to Larchwood. Their son, Henry, was the first Larchwood war casualty in World War I, losing his life in the "Big Bertha" confrontation. The Larchwood American Legion Post is named in his honor. Henry died in September, 1931 and Harmke in September, 1934.
