Watrous Peck 24th Iowa, Co. G.
Watrous Peck was born on December 28, 1839 in New York. He eventually moved to Linn County, Iowa, but his brother, Gilbert W. Peck decided to remain in Canandaigua, in Ontario County, New York.
He enlisted in the 24th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment on august 11, 1862 at the age of 23. He mustered in on September 3, 1862, and remained with the regiment for two more years, until he was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on June 18, 1864. He was mustered out from that Corps, and returned to Iowa.
Watrous Peck was a farmer who lived about one-half mile outside of the city of Cedar Rapids. He and his wife had two children- Clayton Peck and Grace Peck. Watrous died on July 21, 1898 at 3:30 p.m. of Cholera Morbus. He was 58 years old. Watrous Peck was buried in Linwood Cemetery, a government stone marking his grave. The plot is located in the 4th Lot of the 8th Block of the 2nd Addition.
