Simon P. Myers 24th Iowa, Co. F
Simon Myers was born around 1845 in Pennsylvania. He moved to Iowa City, Iowa, after his birth, and enlisted in the 24th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment at the age of nineteen. After enlisting on March 21, 1864, he mustered into the regiment on April 2, 1864. During the year before it was disbanded, the regiment took part in the battles of Shenandoah Valley, Winchester, and Cedar Creek. It was finally sent to Savannah, Georgia, where it mustered out of service on June 25, 1865. Simon survived to see the end of the war. He mustered out of the 24th on July 17, 1865, in Savannah, Georgia. After returning to Iowa, Simon lived another thirty-nine years. He died on December 24, 1904, and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
