Jacob B. Casebeer 24th Iowa, Co. D
Jacob Casebeer was born on February
11, 1838 in Ohio. He later moved to Iowa City, Iowa, where he married Myra
Riggs. He worked as a minister, but when the United States Civil War broke
out, he enlisted in the 24th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
He was appointed Captain on August 9, 1862, at the young age of twenty-four.
He was mustered in on September 18, 1862. He resigned from his commission
on June 23, 1864, in Natchez, Mississippi. Jacob Casebeer died on December
18, 1889, and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The
location of his grave is (81-336).
