Dies Sunday
In Sioux City
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Charles H. Devine, 80 of Sioux City, a longtime Kossuth
resident in earlier days.
Funeral rites were held at Sioux City with Willard 0. Galloway of Westlawn Presbyterian church
officiating. Local rites were in charge of Wilson- Hamilton funeral home and burial was in the Irvington
cemetery
She was born Nettie G. Telshaw July 4, 1892 at Livermore. She was married to Charles Devine in Algona
and he died in 1942 at Lake City. Mrs. Devine had lived in Algona, California and Lake City before
moving to Sioux City 23 years ago to live with a daughter, Mrs. Clara Williamson.
Besides the daughter, a son Charles of Seattle, Wash.; a brother Loyd of Mankato, Minn.; and a sister Mrs.
Dorothy Willey of Mallard, survive. There is also one grandchild.

Killed, Struck
By Tractor
Mrs. Mary Devine, of Fairmont, 82-year-old longtime former Algona resident, was killed about
2:30 p.m. Monday in a tractor-pedestrian accident while crossing highway 15 from her home in
Friendship Village to the Fair mall shopping center.
According to the Fairmont Police report, Mrs. Devine was walking in the crosswalk at the
intersection of State and Tilden streets when struck by the tractor driven by Donald Mosloski who
told the investigating officers that he did not see Mrs. Devine until just before the fatal accident.
Mrs. Devine was dead on arrival at the Fairmont Community Hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Devine will be at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) in the Chapel of the Olson
Funeral Home at Fairmont with the Rev. David Shisler of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial
will be in Riverview Cemetery at Algona.
Pallbearers are Robert Lowe, Robert Millette, Ralph Gundersen, Lynn Feddersen, Frank
Malafarina and Arden Hoffmann.
Visitation at the funeral home is from noon Wednesday until time of the service.
Mary Peffer, daughter of Albert and Louise Viernebaumer Peffer, was born on a farm in Kossuth
County on April 4, 1895. She attended rural schools and was married to Frank Devine at Algona
on Jan. 25, 1912. They farmed near St. Joe and owned the general store in Irvington before
moving to Algona in 1928. Mr. Devine died in 1949 and she continued to live in Algona until
moving to Fairmont in 1975 to be near her daughters.
She is survived by three daughters and five sons; Irene, Mrs. Walter Schreiber and Ardeen, Mrs.
Robert Lowe, both of Fairmont; Louise Devine, Spencer; William Devine, Moville, Ia.; Clarence,
Hamburg; Raymond of Mobile, Ala.; Duane, New Hampton and David of Pleasanton, Calif. There
are 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and six sisters also survive; Albert Peffer, Humboldt; U.B. Peffer, Algona; Mrs.
Elizabeth Leeck and Mrs. Suzanne Beisch, both of Algona; Mrs. Louise Dvorak, Fremont, Neb.;
Catherine Peffer, Cobb Island, Md.; Ann Peffer, Livermore and Lena Peffer, Humboldt.
