BERNARD W. DEVINE
PASSED AWAY AT
LIVERMORE THURSDAY
LIVERMORE—Bernard W. Devine, 84, the first white child born in Riverdale township, Kossuth
county, died at his home near Livermore Thursday, May 21, after having suffered a stroke a few
days before. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 A. M. at the Sacred Heart
church, with Fr. Duhigg officiating, Burial was in Mount Calvery Cemetery by the grave of Mrs.
Devine.
Deceased was the son of John Devine and Anne Meagher; he was born June 14, 1857 on the old
John Devine homestead a mile north of St. Joe. His marriage to Katherine Owens took place
January 19, 1887 at St. Mary's church, in Dakota City, with Father James Zigrang officiating.
The Devines spent the first year of their married life on what is known as the John and Anna
Dunphy farm. From there they moved to the homestead where they lived for six years, then moved
to the present Devine home where Mr. Devine lived until his death with the exception of a few
years when he resided in Livermore.
Mr. Devine was the father of seven boys, three of whom preceded him in death. Mrs. Devine
passed away five years ago.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas and Frank of Livermore, Jack of Britt and Bernard of Woden,
also thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mr. Devine was engaged in farming and livestock buying. He enjoyed good health and was very
active until the few days preceding his death following the stroke.

OF LIVERMORE DIED

LIVERMORE—Mrs. Nellie Devine, age 75, died at her farm home south of Livermore Saturday evening
June 20. She had been in ill health for some time following a stroke last fall.
She is survived by five daughters and three sons. Her husband Frank, died March 14, 1928.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning June 23, at Sacred Heart Church with Father James
Duhigg officiating. Burial was in Mount Calvary cemetery at Livermore.

Two Sons Survive.
Following an illness of two weeks Charles H. Devine passed away at the home of his niece, Mrs.
Irene Schreiber, Algona, Tuesday evening. He had been in poor health the past two years. Burial
will be in the Irvington cemetery with service at the McCullough Chapel here Friday afternoon at
2 o'clock. Rev. C. C. Richardson will be in charge.
