A CASH DEAL

Mike Loss Bought Barney Devine

Home Farm For $16,000 Cash.—

Made Money on Stock.

Mike Loss is one of the living examples of thrift and success in this country. He has for a number of years

lived on the Chubb place south of Algona, and his hobby has been to raise good stock. As a result, he has

made money. Some time ago he purchased 80 acres just west of the Chubb farm, and recently bought of

one of the Devine heirs, 160 acres, the old home place of Barney Devine, in Riverdale township. He paid

$16,000 cash for the quarter section. Mr. Loss knows this farm, better perhaps than any other man, for

when a boy, he worked for nearly 20 years for Mr. Devine. Mike says he little thought when working on

this farm for $18 a month that he would ever own it. He now owns 240 acres of good land, and made it all

on his stock, by careful buying and good judgment in care and sales. Here is hoping Mike can buy another

quarter in a few years.

John McCowen has purchased the John Nemmers residence property in the west part of town and will

move into the same at an early date. The Gar Bolster family are now living there and will move as soon as a

suitable place can be secured.

Charles Wernert of the St. Joe country was in Algona last week on a visit with friends and to transact

business. While here he sold 204 acres of the Barney Devine estate that fell to his wife, to Mrs. Delia

Carrell. Mr. Wernert is now a resident of the town of Livermore, he having rented his farm and bought a

residence in that town.
