William Thompson

William (Bill) J. Thompson, 7 4 p a s s e d away Friday, O
c t o b e r 7, a t M e r c y Hospital in Joplin Mo. Bill was born in Iowa June
6, 1942 and graduated from Iowa City High School in 1960. He married Karen
Geringer in 1962. Together they had 2 sons. His wife of 34 years, Cheryl
Thompson, survives. Bill worked for many years in automotive management for
Montgomery Ward and Walmart. His primary passion in life was bass fishing. He
was a long time member of Southwest Missouri Bass Club. He was also an avid
reader, enjoyed listening to live blues bands and loved his Amazon Parrot MOJO.
He played guitar in a country band during his younger years. He is also
survived by son Steven Thompson, step-sons Rick and Todd Fisher, sister Judy
Whisenand, grandchildren Shandee, Madison, Brianna, Eric, Zach, Carlei, Ethan,
and Olivia and his long time friend and fishing buddy Ralph Kent. He was
preceded in death by his son Andy Thompson and his parents Floyd and Ethel
Thompson. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
