William Searcy, owner of the Topspot Bowling Alley, Rock Island, took
as his bride Miss Sharon Elizabeth Conklin, 825 21st St., daughter of
Mr. and MRs. C. W. Dunham, 1129 ½ 20th Ave., all of Rock Island. The
5pm ceremony Saturday in South Park Presbyterian Church was followed by
a reception in the church parlors.

Two RI Men Named In Suit
A
$20,000 suit against two Rock Island men was filed with the Rock Island
County Circuit Court Wednesday by Sharon Conklin Searcy, Rock Island.
She
asks $10,000 each from Russell Wilburne and James M. Morse, operator of
the Royal Cab Co., for injuries, loss of wages and medical expenses she
claims resulted from a two-car crash May 23 at Twentieth Street and
Fourth Avenue in Rock Island.
The
suit claims Wilburne ran into a Royal taxi in which the plaintiff was
riding and that the taxi driver was negligent and careless.

Sharon Searcy from Glen William Searcy Jr., on a charge of cruelty.
Custody of two children was awarded to the plaintiff. The marriage was
on July 8, 1961.

Sharon Searcy, 22, of 8351/2 25th St., Rock Island, was admitted to St.
Anthony’s Saturday night for care of injuries reportedly incurred in a
car mishap. She is in good condition today.

$25,000 Damage Action Started
A
$25,000 suit has been filed in the General Division of Rock Island
Circuit Court against Richard L. Hines and Guy Van Goethem as a result
of a three car chain-reaction accident on Rock Island’s 7th Ave., Sept
25.
Sharon Searcy seeks the damages for injuries and loss of income.
The
suit states all three cars were heading east when the Homes auto struck
the rear of the Searcy car and the VanGoethem auto struck the rear of
the Hines auto.

Married
in a Saturday evening ceremony were Miss Karen Lou Krohn, daughter of
Mrs. George W. Krohn, 511 Ninth Avenue, Coralville and the late Mr.
Krohn and Mr. Michael Charles Conklin, Davenport. Mr. Conklin is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Dunham, Rock Island, IL.

Glen W. Searcy Jr.
Glen
W. Searcy Jr., 5 of Rock Island, son of the former Sharon Conklin of
Iowa City, died at University Hospital here Saturday. He had been a
patient five days.
Services
will be at the Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island at 2 pm, Wednesday,
with burial there. Survivors include his parents and a brother, Scott.

Hot Iron Causes Fire in R.I.
About $75 in damages was caused when a hot iron was left on an ironing board last night, according to Rock Island firemen.
The firemen answered an alarm at the residence of Mrs. Sharon Searcy at 1061 23rd Ave.
Fire damage was confined to a rear bedroom and its contents.

Burglars Get $500 in Tavern
Burglars entered a Rock Island tavern early this morning and escaped with about $500 which was hidden in the tap.
Sharon
Searcy, owner of Sharon’s Tap, 26th St. and 5th Ave. Reported that the
rear door on the east side of the tavern had been forced open about 3
this morning.
She said the money was in a bank bag hidden under a pile of towels underneath the bar.

DEATHS
Chester Dunham, 77
Graveside
services for Chester Dunham will begin at 1:30 pm Thursday in Oak Hill
Cemetery at Coralville. Chester “Swede” Dunham, 77, of 2121 10th St.
Place, Coralville, died Monday at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
There
will be no visitation. The body has been cremated. A memorial fund has
been established. Donohue-Lensing funeral home in charge of
arrangements.
Mr.
Dunham was born Sept 13, 1912, in Lakeview, son of Frank and Clara
Remmert Dunham. He married Genevieve Conklin June 18, 1960 in Rock
Island, IL. He was a route salesman at Sidwell Dairies in Iowa City for
many years. He moved to the Rock Island area and was a representative
at Wyn’s Automotive Parts. He was a member of the American Legion
Walter Johnson Post No. 721. He served in the U.S. Army during World
War II.
He
is survived by his wife; two sons, Gerald of Iowa City and James of
Webster City; one daughter, Janet Hime of Mesa, Ariz.; one stepson,
Michael Conklin of Bayonne, N.J.; one stepdaughter, Sharon Searcy of
Honolulu; 14 grandchildren, two step grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. A brother died earlier.

Services
for G.W. “Bill” Searcy 67, 1717 88th Ave. W., Rock Island, are 10:30 am
Tuesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in National
Cemetery, Arsenal Island.
Mr.
Searcy died Friday April 5, 1996 at Trinity Medical Center, West
Campus, Rock Island.He was born Dec. 14, 1928 in Rock Island, the son
of Glen R. and Sarah Marasco Searcy. He married Sharon Conklin in 1961
in Rock Island.
He
was employed at Town and Country Bowling Lanes, Rock Island, as
supervisor of bowling lane maintenance for 31 years, retiring in 1995.
He had worked part-time at Town and Country for the past six months. He
earlier owned and operated the former Top Spot Bowling Alleys, Rock
Island. Prior to that he had been a professional window clearner in
Rock Island.
He
was a member of American Bowling Congress, had bowled several 300 games
and had an 800 series in 1989. He was a member of Rock Island Mosse
Lodge. He was an avid golfer. He was a Korean War Air Force veteran.
Survivors
include a son, Scott Searcy, Las Vegas; sisters, Frances Paxton,
Redlands, Calif., and Lorraine Moran and Mary Schwab, both of
Galesburg; brothers, Bob Searcy and Gary Hendren, both of Rock Island
and Chuck Searcy, Peoria, and a fiancée, Rita Czupka, Rock Island. A
son, Bill Searcy, died Dec. 30, 1967.

Genevieve
C. Dunham, 83 formerly of Iowa City, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002,
at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas of complications from a stroke.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
Mrs. Dunham was born February 3, 1919, in Iowa City to Martin
and Mary Hartzler. She lived most of her life in Iowa City and Rock
Island, the last 10 years she lived in Sacramento and Las Vegas. She
worked in the food and beverage industry most of her life retiring in
1982. She devoted all of her attention for the next 8 years in taking
care of her husband Chester W. Dunham, until his death in 1990.
Her family includes her daughter, Sharon Searcy of Las Vegas, Nevada; her son, Michael Conklin
of Bayonne, NJ; her brother, Martin Dean Hartzler of Sacramento, CA.; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Her husband, three brothers, Vernon, Melvin and Joseph Hartzler and a grandson Billy Searcy, preceded her in death.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Genevieve’s family and her services.
