The clerk of Madison township
{in 1882} Wm. Shimp furnishes the following report: The township was
organized October 15, 1860….. The first board of trustees: John Green,
Jacob Lininger, and H. S. Gould; constables, L. W. Chamberlain, W.
Roberts, and A. Hildabrand; clerk, H. C. Nichols, {1882 in Kansas.};
justices of the peace, James Chamberlain and Adam Snyder. The first
official meetings were held in the old log school house called Swan
Lake school house.
The first school house was built by L.
Babcock, on O. G. Babcock’s premises in Section 32……The township
constitutes one district school township and is divided into six
sub-districts.

| MODERN RURAL SCHOOL FOR MADISON TOWNSHIP Excavation
or the basement has been mde for the new schoolhouse to be constructed
in District No. 1. This building will be supplied with a furnace,
vestibules and windows at one side only; altogether it will be quite

School Directors In Madison Township Hold Annual Meeting Madison
township school board recently held its annual meeting at Cross Roads.
The new directors are Mr. Floyd Wolfe, of Wray school, Mr. Emil Novy,
of Cross Roads, John Tomoas, of Greencastle school, George Swenka of
Sand Ridge, Adolph Kadera, of Lininger school, Jack Canney, of
Hoover school, R. J. Cerhan, director at large. Emil Novy was chosen
