- Jeff and Linda Goaley* mobile home. Also former home of Rick and Lee Anne Shaffer. Was formerly a vacant lot north of Christian Church.
- Rick and Lee Anne Shaffer* home. Early occupancy now unknown. Was the home of James and Hanna Tramel, Reverend and Mrs. Underwood, Frank and Lillie Rippey, Cecil and Marie Carpenter*, and Marie Koon Carpenter*. Probably others.
- Now an empty lot. The house was torn down in 1982. Home of different families for many years. Was home of Ross* and Marvel Beardmore, Ralph and Nepha Owens*, LaVerna Fuller* and Hummel family.
- Tom Gray* and family new home. Early occupancy of the old house is now unknown. The old house, a frame brick veneer, was the home of the Seward Castor family for many years. Vacant for years and badly deteriorated, it was finally torn down.
- Mrs. Debbie Musser mobile home. Over the years a business lot with a variety of buildings.
- Mrs. Marjory Taylor* home. An Ira landmark. Early occupancy not now known. Home of Dave Jickling and family for many years. Was home of Bob and Joyce Sutton* and Charles and Darlene Shaffer* and family.
- Site of the first general merchandise store in Ira. Also first Post Office. An outside stairway led to a second floor residence. Was home of Salem and Elizabeth Ann Jeffries and family, W.J. Crawford and family, Arthur Jeffries and family (Gladys & Dennis), and several others. The front two story section was torn down by Ross Beardmore in October 1934. Then the ground floor rear was the home of Ross and Marvel Beardmore and Joan and Clayton. Later it was torn down.
- Walt and Ann McCumber* mobile home. Site of Farmers Savings Bank. The bank building was the home of Enos Gibson and others. Later the old bank building was torn down. It was a brick structure.
7 ½. Now a vacant lot. Was the home of W. W. Mead and wife and son Lawrence for many years. Was the home of Mr. and Mrs. McLain and sons Cloyd and Donald. The building was torn down.
- Ross Beardmore* home. Site of the hotel & or restaurant for many years. The hotel was built by D. Starkweather in 1894. Home & or business for Sidney W. & Kate Weston, J.W. Signs, G.W. Richmond, F.W. Ward, Win. Barber (was also the railroad agent), John & Hazel Boyce & sons Merrill & Lynn, William Hewitt, Seth Berthoff, Scott & Madge Schoryer & son Charles, Floyd & Joy Mason, Sam & Lena Beals, Buril Norris, Claude & Mary Logsdon (Blue Goose Cafe), Raymond & Grace Loynachan & daughters, John DeReus, David (Zeke) & Nellie Patton, and Louis Rettinghouse. (and their wives & families, if any). The old hotel was torn down.
- A house stood here for many years until destroyed by fire December 16, 1961. It was then occupied by the Don Davidson family. The early occupants are not now known. Was the home of C.E. Jones & family for years. (wife Laura & children Harlene & Zenas). Also home of Kenneth Hopkins*, Betty Hopkins Rhone*, Velta Hopkins Davies*, Vela Hopkins Bucklin*, Carol Meyers*, Ralph & Nepha Owens*, Dennis Owens*, Cecil & Marie Carpenter*, Marie Koon Carpenter*. Perhaps others.
- Mr & Mrs Jim Smithers* home. Was home of Nellie Planalp & son Clarence for years. Also home of Andrew & Mary Trussler, Celia Iske & family, Joan Beardmore Scott*, & probably others.
- Mrs Betty Menken* mobile home. Charles & Darlie Weston built a large house here in 1900 & lived there. Their son Leland is now a doctor. Also .the home of Andrew Jeffries & family for many years. It was the Methodist Parsonage for Reverend Hill & wife and Reverend Stevenson & wife & daughter Edith. Others: Andrew & Crystal* Beard & family and Pam Haney*. It was owned and occupied by Mrs Betty Menken & family when it was destroyed by fire on November 4, 1974.
- Mr & Mrs Milo Lamb* home. Was home of Mrs. Caroline Weston for many years. Sid & Kate Weston lived with her several years before her death, then it was their home for many more years. Probably others.
- Larry & Carol Dunbar home. Early day residents not now known. Around 1905-8 it was the home of Wm. I. & Flora Price & Esther, Ruth, Donald* & Kenneth*. Others: Also home of Sam Beals & family, Ross Beardmore*, & Sharron Keeley*.
- Karla Perry* & Joe Beem home. Was home of "Gilly" & Coral Castor & son John* for many years. After Gilley died, it was remodeled & added on to.
- Cecil & Marie (Koon) Carpenter* home. Raymond & Grace Loynachan built the fine home here & lived in it for years. The house sits on a combination of previously vacant lots which were business locations prior to the fire of October 21, 1913.
- Dick Gripe* mobile home. In the early days a general merchandise store and then a hardware store was located here. It had an attached dwelling on the south side and was the home of Hiram & Barbara Jeffries & daughters Vera & Nellie. It was also the home of Arthur & Daisy Jeffries & Gladys & Dennis. Simon Klemme & brother once had the hardware, but I don't know if either lived there. It was also the home of C.L. Peak & family, Wm. C. Maggard & family, and C.C. Barbee & family who lived there at the time of the fire of October 21, 1913. It was a vacant lot for, years. David (Zeke) & Nellie Patton built a small house & barber shop there in the early 30's & lived there for several years. Probably home of others. It was destroyed by fire, but I don't have the date nor the occupants' name.
- Jolene Trienen* home. Clem & Belle Palmer built the building after the fire of October 21, 1913 as a combined home & Post Office. They lived there until around 1921. Their son Ray also lived with them for several years. It was the Post Office and home for Donald & Wanda Price & Donna in the early thirties. Also others. Was home of Zeke & Nellie Patton and also of Doug & Teresa Routh*.
- Mrs. Sam Frakes* home. Was a vacant lot.
- Mrs Patsy Rupe* home. Early residents not now known. Was home of Gush Willets & wife & Tom. Also home of Bill & Jonnie Lane*, Loren Gearheart* & family, Otis & Neva Warner*. Perhaps others.
- Tim & Melissa Shinn* home. Early occupants not now known. Was home of Mrs. John (Lydia) Crawford & son Henry. She married J.P. Miller and their children were Sam & June. Also home of Sam & Minnie* Miller. Others ?.
- Mrs. Ethel Signs* home. Early occupants name not now known. Was home of George Rumbaugh & wife, Charles & Darlie Weston and Anna Campbell.
- Jack Bucklin* home. He built this fine house. Was the site of the old Methodist Church, built in 1893, until it was torn down around 1968. Was also the Dave Bucklin* home.
- Mark Howe* home. Was the home of Wm. & Flora Price & Esther & Ruth. Was the home of Mrs. Rumbaugh (George's mother) for years. Was the home of Floyd & Joy Mason, Janet Gearheart Humes*. Others ?.
- Roy & Ethel Bucklin* home. Was a vacant lot over the years. Zeke & Nellie Patton built the house & lived there. Others ?.
- Layman & LaVerna Cornelison* home. Early occupancy now unknown. Before the small addition was built on the front, this was the home of blacksmith Forest Inglis & his wife Mae who raised a family of ten children in this small house before moving to Mingo in 1927. Beyond doubt this was the largest family to ever live in Ira. They all have been good citizens. The children were active in the Methodist Sunday School. Opal played the piano for both Sunday School and Church. The children were Opal (Gardner), Loraine (Petermeier), Clarence, Alta (Neal)*, Naomi (Boucher)*, Howard, Forest Junior, Gladys (Byers), Audra (Wolf), & Leola (Duffy).
Others living here were: Loren Gearheart* & family, John Gearheart*, Janet Gearheart Humes*, Sarah Gearheart Westbrook*, Patsy Rupe*, LaVerna Fuller Cornelison*.
- Bucklin used cars & body shop. Was an early day site of a grist mill which was moved to the west side of Main Street, site G on map. A house was built on the site and was known as the Ira Lumber Co. house. It was probably the home of C.E. Richards & family, Bert Smith & family, Albin Petersen & family, Scott & Madge Schoryer & son Charles, Otis & Neva Warner*, LaVerna Fuller Cornelison*, and probably others. The house was destroyed by fire on February 22, 1976 while the home of Lyle McCalley & family. Was also the home of George, Stella & Floyd Whitehead.
- An early day small home was here next to the alley & street. F.G. Logsdon & family lived here at one time. Probably others. Was the home of Ray Barbee & family. Others ? Then the building became a pool hall & barber shop which burned August 24, 1924 along with the garage & blacksmith shop. Claude Logsdon built a good home in the middle of the lot. It was destroyed by fire March 14, 1932 while occupied by garage man Larence Williams. Later Zeke Patton built a small house closer to the street & alley and he & Nellie lived there. It is now a vacant house. Site R on map. Mr. & Mrs. Max Bucklin* home on second floor above the garage and small grocery store. Before Max & Vela Bucklin remodeled the space above the garage as a fine home, it was the home of Lois Sieg Taylor*, Cecil & Marie (Koon) Carpenter* and Linda Carpenter Withrow*. (Editor's note: I hope the above is correct.)
- Pat Sieg* home. An older house. I can remember several families living there, but not their names. It was the home of Betty Hopkins Rhone*, Kenneth Hopkins*, Vela Hopkins Bucklin*, Velta Hopkins Davies*, Jack Gearheart*, Dorothy Gearheart Kiser*, Betty Gearheart Johnson*.
- An early day house was here, but its resident's names are not now known. It was the home of a Hanson family. (Charlie ? Rose ?) The children were Roy, Carroll, Edna & Nadine. It was the home of Joe & Jennie Tay1or & family (Albert, Verne, Aileen & Mae) Was home of Neva Brady. Was also home of C. Thompson* & family & Marilyn Thompson Rhone*.
- 30.Lee & Sue Atkinson* home. An early day home completely remodeled as new. Reportably the first house to be built in Ira by P.H. Early, lumberman, shortly after Ira became a town. Around 1900 it was the Martha Price home. About 1908 thru 1937 it was the home of William & Flora Price. Also Esther; Ruth, Donald* & Kenneth* Price. Was home of Arge & Ada Veith, then Don Hutchinson and Roy Brown. (Floyd).
- Don Weston* home. Also Bertha before her death. Home of Martha Price 1908-'16. Al & Edna Smith & family, W.L. Stroup & family. Probably others. Also home of Janet Trussler, Claude Logsdon & Mary, and Lillie Mae Iske Bisom.
- Robert & Jean State* home. Early occupancy not now known. Was home of lumberman Leon F. Richardson & wife Mae (Penquite) who was an Ira school teacher in the 1911-'13 period. Was the home of Garrett & Alice Logsdon & family, Claude, Blanche, Maude (Jontz)*, LeOna & Lynn who died at the age of 8 months. The Logsdons had the old house torn down and the present two story house constructed. It was the home of Robert Beals* & family.
- Steve & Connie Wright* home. Was formerly a vacant lot. The house was built new in 1978 or about then.
- Dan & Connie Bucklin* home. An older house whose early residents' names are not now known. Was home of Marie Koon Carpenter*, Lurretha Bucklin*, Loren Gearheart* & family. Others ?.
- Next to the alley was an early day story & one-half small house. I was told it was moved from site 11 around 1900 when Charlie Weston built his new home there. Home of Wm. Kern & family, McMillen family & others. It was destroyed by fire August 1,1921 while empty & still owned by Kern.
- Dorwin Bucklin* home. A newer house. The old house was the home of Eli Cross & sons Jessie & Louis (Jes & Lu), then Lu for several years. Vacant & detonated, it was finally torn down. The present house was built in 1980.Was the home of Otis & Neva Warner*, Loren Gearheart* & family, and Ross Beardmore*.
- Mrs. Neva Warner* home. Early residents now unknown. Station agent Al Sea his wife Iva and children LaVeda & Buddy lived there. Probably others.

- Fire Department & Ira Park.
- Mr. & Mrs. Freeman Skaggs home. An early day home was here whose residents are not now known. The Garrett Logsdon family lived in it at one time. I don't know what happened to it, but a vacant lot was there for several years. Joe Taylor moved a house there & the Taylor family occupied it for several years. When they moved to the farm near Goddard, Joe had the house moved there. A vacant lot for years. The present house was built in 19??.
- Don Rutherford mobile home. Was a vacant lot over the years. Was the home of Cecil & Marie (Koon) Carpenter* home. Also home of Linda Carpenter Winthrow* and Loren Gearheart* & family. (Last 3 names belong below FF).
FF. An old cement block house built by Lon Harding in the early days of Ira. Was the Lon & Rosa & family home. Lon & blacksmith John Inglis had a cement block factory here. Has been home of numerous people.
- (Located about 1/4 mile west on the south side of the road) It is the home of Mr & Mrs Henry Comer*. A newer house. The old house was the home of Tom & Stella Gearheart & family for many years. Also their children Retha, Dolly, Vern, Sarah & Patrick. Was home of John Gearheart* & family. Christina Whitehead* also lived there at one time.
- (Located 1/2 mile west of Ira on south side of road) Mrs. Florence Lane* home. An older country house whose early occupants' names are not now known. Was home of Zip & Phoebe Taylor for years. Also home of a Baldwin family.
- Located 1/2 mile west of Ira on north side of road) Brian & Carol Rumbaugh* home. Early occupants' names not now known. Was the home of Fred Battles & wife & children Claude, Doris, Irene, Harold. Was the home of Mr. & Mrs. Archie March & son for a umber of years. Perhaps others.
- (North of road 1/4 mile west of Ira) Mr. & Mrs. Ron Meyers home. The early occupancy is not now known. Was the home of John Crawford & his first wife & daughters Florence & Jenny. Also home of John Crawford & his second wife Lydia & their son Henry. Also others.
- (West edge of Ira north of road) Rodney & Janet Altes* home. Before Ira became a town it was the home of Wm. F. Rippey & his first wife. I think it was an older house. Mr. Rippey brought his small grand-daughters, Babe & Faye Lowe, to share his home after their mother had died. Was the home of Wm. Rippey & his second wife, Eva, then Eva's home after Mr. Rippey died. Was the home of Loren & Gladys Murphy & twin daughters Eva & Reva from 1935 thru 1947. Home of Eva Murpy Kling* and Reva Murphy Lowery*.
- About one-quarter mile north-east of Ira) Russell & Evelyn Rippey* home. Was the home of Frank Rippey & family for many years. The present Russell is the namesake of his uncle Russell Rippey who died in World War One in France. Russell & Gale were sons by Frank's first wife, who died young. Willard Dullard was the son of Frank's second wife, Lillie, & he made his home there also. Some other occupancy.
- (Located around 1/2 mile east of Ira & north of the railroad) Mrs. Judie Keagle* & family home. Children Joe, David, Danny & Cathy. Was the home of Leslie E. Gearheart & his wife. Enos Gibson lived here with them. Was the home of Joe Taylor & family for a while. Was home of Florence Lane*.
- Located 1/2 mile east of Ira & south of railroad) Conrad Hunter* and family. Was the home of a Murphy family. His father "Colonel" Murphy who was a well known Jasper County Auctioneer for many years, also shared the home. Was home of Ralph & Beulah Hunter & sons Conrad & Arnold for years. After Beulah died, Ralph lived here with his son Conrad, & family, until his death. There were others lived there also, including the Henry Shivers family. Henry was an Ira drayman for many years.
- (Located around three-quarters of a mile south west of Ira) Rick & Val Crozier* home. A new house & farm buildings. The old house was the home of Ross Sutton & his wife & children Gladys*, Maude, LeOna & Leland. Probably others lived there. (Note: Three houses burned here).
- (Located south of Ira about one-half mile on the corner west & north of the roads) Top of "Ira Hill" (The hill was VERY STEEP at the corner) A Barker family made it their home for many years. The barn was on the east side of the road. All buildings are now gone. (Note: a new house burned).

The children of Ira are the future generation of Ira. The IRA STAR had their pictures. We are sorry they cannot be shown here, but costs prohibited it. However their names are listed below.

South of Ira on the south side of a now abandoned road a farm house and farm buildings once stood which was the home of the Clarence Osborn family for many years. I think Kate Schoryer & family also lived there. Others also. All buildings are now gone. The house burned January 8, 1946, while occupied by the Osborn family.
There is now nothing to indicate where a house & farm buildings once was located around 3/4 mile west of Ira on the north side of the road, just west of the creek at the foot of the hill, west of what is now the Brian & Carol Rumbaugh place. A family lived there by the name of Long and there were several children who attended the Ira school. I can recall the old school house after the partition divided the school room into two sections. It was the 1913-14 school term with Faye Lowe teaching the lower room and Babe Lowe the upper room. I had Clarence Long as my seat mate for my first year of school. That was when school seats and desks were for two pupils. Later the Ira Thrasher Company constructed a large building at the site to house their steam engine, separator and water wagon. As I recall the farm buildings stood there for a while after the thrasher building was built. (Ed.).
Old pictures of people & places, copies of old newspapers, and numerous & varied other items of historical interest were on display at the Church during the Ira Centennial Celebration.
Prior to 1901 a grist mill was one of the needed business places in Ira.
A creamery was an Ira early day business, probably from 1895 thru 1912.
Brick making, cement block mfg., broom making, well digging by hand with a spade, cooperage (barrel making), were Ira trades in the early days.
At least six doctors practiced in Ira at various times over the years. A drug store was listed in records twice.
Charles West was an early day harness maker & boots & shoes repairman for years before W.W. Mead came to Ira in 1901 to engage in that trade to 1920.
A stockyards was located along the house track in western Ira until about 1930. Many dealers were listed over the years. Charles Weston managed the Ira Shipping Association and he shipped 81 cars of grain & livestock in one year out of Ira.
