January 3,1889 Pioneer It is over.-Dr. Drake died Friday morning at about 1 o’clock. Wednesday he passed into a comatose state and rapidly slumbered into death. He was a native of Pennsylvania and an excellent physician. The doctor possessed a most liberal education and took great delight in often reading his Latin works. He was a ripe English scholar and thoroughly posted on all historical and political matters. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and we suppose will be buried under Masonic Ceremonies.
January 10,1889 Pioneer Cicero H. Drake died at his home in Ida Grove on January 4,1889, aged 48 years, 1 month, 12 days. Dr. Drake was born and brought up near Stroudsburg, Monroe County, PA. He was educated at an academy at Stroudsburg, graduating with honor. ON August 20th while in his twenty second year he enlisted in the army and was mustered in as Orderly Sergeant of Company “G” 142 P. Vol. After this his command was ordered to the front and barely escaped being in the battle of Antetum. In April of 1863 he was promoted to 2nd Lt. of his company and as commanded it in the battle of Fredercksburgh. Being in Gen. Meads division, he was in the thickest of the fight, bravely leading his men on the conflict and although mounded severely by a piece of shell in his right leg, yet he did not desert the field of carnage. after more battles he was captured and taken with other prisoners South and for about 20 months was held, having been confined at Libby prison and others along the way. In May 1865 by reason of Gen. order was discharged the service with the rank of Major. He later attended Medical school at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA from which institution he graduated with honor, later taking a Post Graduate course from the same institute. He then located at Sciota, Monroe County PA. He was there until 1873 when he went to White Haven PA where he remained until 1883 then coming to Ida Grove. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss, and to stem the current life without his careful guardianship which he was jealous to maintain, but yet they are not alone for He who feeds even the sparrows will be a father to the fatherless and a husband to the widow. His body was laid t rest in the cemetery near Ida Grove, followed by a large concourse of his fellow, whose hearts entered into sympathy with those left alone.
January 17,1889 Pioneer On the 11th of January a young man arrived at the home of Thomas Northrup, of Silver Creek twp. and since then the price of land has risen 5 cents an acre.
January 24,1889 Pioneer A young stranger arrived at the home of J.W. Brown on January 22,1889, and made a contract with friend Brown, of Corwin twp., to board him for many a happy year. January 31,1889 Pioneer Married on January 30th, at the residence of Rev. A.E. Smith, Mr. Frank Stier of Folletts, Iowa and Miss Susie Hart of Danbury, Iowa.
January 31,1889 Pioneer Died-Capt. Jos. B. Rife, formerly of the 6th U.S. Regular Infantry who served with it through the war, was thrown from a carriage on the 29th inst., at Middletown, PA and killed. Capt. Rife was a brother of Mrs. W.C. Ross of this twp. Capt. Rife visited here several times.
January 31,1889 Pioneer Mrs. Sarah Ross, wife of Mr. Eli Ross, a former resident of this county, died at her late residence near Concord, Cedar County Nebraska on January 19th.
February 7.1889 Pioneer Mrs. Riggle, aged 87, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Henry Howard on Sunday last. Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. Church, Tuesday. Deceased was a great-great-grandmother.
February 7,1889 Pioneer Died on Monday at her residence in Cushing, Iowa, Mrs. Chas. Kehoe. Funeral took place on Wednesday from St. Bridget’s Church in Ida Grove, where solemn high mass was offered fro the repose of her soul. Rev. Father Riordan officiating with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
February 7,1889 Pioneer Married at the residence of the officiating clergyman, Rev. A.E. Smith, at 8 p.m. yesterday, I.H. Rankin and Miss Mable Brown, both of Ida Grove. The contracting parties are known so well that eulogy from us would appear tame, Ham, who is now 24, came to Ida Grove in the fall of 1876, and since then has been before our people, by whom he is know as the best hearted young man in town. The bride who is the youngest daughter of Denis Brown, one of our leading restaurant men, is among the most popular young ladies in the city. Her family moved here from Dwight, Illinois about eight years ago when Mabel was 11 years old. The ceremony was witnessed by only S.C. Blackman and Miss Florette Pottiger, best man and bridesmaid. A few friends of the family were present later at a party at the home of the bride’s parents
February 7,1889 Pioneer A three week old child of F. Reincke of Otter Creek twp, died the 31st of January, and was buried on Sunday. February 21,1889 Pioneer Births- To Mr. and Mrs. Christ Jones of Hayes twp, February 14, a daughter. Birth-To Mr. and Mrs. E. Fobes of Ida Grove, February 16, a daughter. Birth-To Mr. and Mrs. Pete Markham of Ida Grove, February 14, a son.
February 21,1889 Pioneer Nicholas Welter and Maggie Entinger, of Holstein, were united in marriage at the Catholic Church this city on Monday, Rev. Father Riordan officiating. The couple will leave in a few days for the groom’s home in Minnesota.

February 28,1889 Pioneer Married at the residence of the bride’s parents, Monday, February 25, Mr. G. McCormick and Miss Edith A. Whitney, of Ida Grove. The ceremony occurred at 2 o’clock and was witnessed by several guests; Clarence Page of Omaha, Ivory Leach and family, M. Warren and family, Mrs. G.H. Bryant, Mr. Grand Edgar of Monona County, Everett Richardson, Miss Feronia Johnson and Misses Meyers of Ida Grove. After a superb wedding dinner the couple took the evening train for the grooms home in the golden state, bearing with them the heartfelt good wishes of a large circle of friends. February 28,1889 Pioneer Married at the residence of the bride’s parents, Wednesday evening, February 25, Rev. A. E. Smith officiating, D.W. Blackman and Minnie Beaver. The couple thus happily wed are among Ida Grove’s estimable and popular young people, and are too well and favorably known to need eulogy. “Dud” has learned his trade here, progressing from devil to foreman, and from foreman to editor, and his bride will not be a silent member in the new partnership, as she is also a skillful compositor. The ceremony was a quiet one being witnessed by only a few intimate friends.
March 7,1889 Pioneer Henry Schroeder’s father, Emmanuel Schroeder, of Morgan twp. died suddenly at t his home on Monday, at the advanced age of 62.
March 7,1889 Pioneer Mrs. Mueller, mother in law to August Wittenberg, of Hayes twp., died Wednesday afternoon from lung fever, aged 67 years. Her death took place while Mr. Wittenberg was attending the funeral of Emmanuel Schroeder. She will be buried Friday afternoon at the Nissen graveyard, Crawford County. (A correction in the March 14 edition says she was buried at the German Lutheran Cemetery in Grant twp, not Nissen graveyard)
March 7,1889 Pioneer The many friends of Mrs. W. A. Woods will feel pained to learn of her sudden death from paralysis of the brain, at Winnipeg, where the family resided on Sunday last. She departed this life on March 3,1889, at Winnipeg, Manitoba, B.A. Mrs. Sarah P. Woods, wife of Wm. H. Woods, in the 51st year of life, after a short illness. March 7,1889 Pioneer A double wedding! Harry and Ella Houston, children of Robert Houston, were married Monday to Miss Minnie Cady of Butler Country, Nebraska and Mr. W. J. Hewitt of Hayes. The ceremony took place at the residence of Mr. Houston and conducted by Rev. Wilkins of Arthur.
March 14,1889 Pioneer A telegram received Saturday announced the death of Mrs. R.M. Curtis at Marengo, Ill., a sister of Mrs. F.D. Babcock and Fred and Cora Sears, who, with Mr. Babcock left for Marengo Saturday evening.

March 14,1889 Pioneer A ten and a half pound baby boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Shearer on Tuesday. Mother and baby doing well. Frank says the boys name will be Benjamin Harrison.
March 14,1889 Pioneer H. Hackett and Mrs. Howser were married Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. The ceremony took place at the home of Mrs. Holiday, the daughter of Mrs. Howser, near Rock Rapids, Iowa, the couple then took the departing train for Ida Grove. Mrs. Hackett has been a resident of Ida County for 21 years, Mr. Hackett 13 years. They will make their home in Ida Grove.

March 21,1889 Pioneer Mr. and Mrs. C. Tanner of Silver Creek twp., mourn the death of their infant daughter, Lizzie, which occurred last Thursday the 14th, after a short illness of bronchitis. Funeral services were held in the Christian Chapel at Schaller. Rev. F.F. Kiner of this city officiated.

March 28,1889 Pioneer Dropped Dead Mike Forney, living with his brother and father, about two miles south of Ida Grove, last Saturday met an instantaneous death from heart disease, dropping down unexpectedly without a moment’s warning. The disease and its advanced stage had been recognized for sometime however. A month or six weeks ago Forney consulted Dr. Heilman, who informed him that nothing could be done, and that he must be prepared to die at any time, excitement or overtaxing of strength could be dangerous. The end was hastened some by both of these causes, as he had helped to fight a prairie fire that threatened to approach from too close for safety on the morning of the death, his obsequies occurred Monday and conducted by Rev. J.H. Besore.
March 28,1889 Pioneer A fifteen pound boy-honest weight-was born to Mr. and Mrs. I.S. McCline of Saturday. Corwin twp., wears the belt for big babies, and is not likely to loose it right away.
]March 28,1889 Pioneer The community was shocked this morning by the announcement of the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Jane Macomber, at the residence of her son, Judge Macomber, of this city. She was in usual health, except for a cold that had troubled her considerably for a week, at the hour of retirement and up to 10 o’clock, when the family retired, she slept peacefully. She awakened them shortly before midnight, and was then hardly able to breathe. Her nephew, Dr. Sprague, visiting here from Maine, pronounced it pneumonia, but had no medicine to administer to her. Dr. Heilman was hastily summoned and everything possible was done, about 3 o’clock she was able to breathe a little better and was sitting up, when suddenly her head dropped, the arm upon which she rested gave way, and in a moment she expired. Deceased was born at Winthrop, Maine in 1819, came to Iowa in 1882, and has resided most of the time with her eldest son in Carroll, Iowa, where the remains will be taken tomorrow for burial. She was a Christian woman, beloved by all of her family.

April 4,1889 Pioneer A child of Wm. Sanders died, Wednesday, and was buried on Thursday, Rev. Riordan officiated.
April 11,1889 Pioneer Last Saturday J.C. Patton received word from Clifton, Kansas that his son Al. was dying. Later he received word that he was dead. Mr. Patton left on the first train to take charge of the remains.

April 11,1889 Pioneer Elizabeth, the sister of Rev. Wilmot Whitfield, of Sioux City, died on Monday and will be buried today.
A ten pound baby boy at the home of Wayne Johnston on the 6th accounts for the beaming countenance of the father this week.
April 11,1889 Pioneer Tom Sees of Galva, who spent some time in Ida Grove and was sent home to New Virginia by Frank Hillard, died there on April 4.

April 18,1889 Pioneer Death again has once more brought gloom to our county by the removal of the wife of Councilman John Lancaster. On Monday, April 8, she was taken with a chill, which was succeeded by a high fever. Medical aid was called and the proper remedies administered for inflammation of the bowels. For the first few days the patient seemed to improve, however, she grew worse and sank rapidly and that night realizing her end approaching she called her husband and three children to her bedside and bade them farewell. At 3 o’clock Monday morning she became unconscious and died at a quarter before eight. Rosanna Lancaster nee Keary, was born at Green Oak, Michigan on July 31,1856, and came to Ida County 10 years ago. Her parents still live in Michigan, several of her brothers and sisters have homes in Chicago and one brother James, owns a farm at Elm Grove, Calhoun County, this state. Her mother arrived on the morning train, three quarters of an hour after her death. Her brother, James, and sister, Julia also came to late to see her. She was respected by all who knew her, she was a kind and loving friend, wife and mother. Funeral services were held April 17 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, where Mass for the dead was offered by Father Riordan.
April 18,1889 Pioneer Married at the residence of the bride’s parents in Grant twp., on April 10,1889, at 3 p.m. Mr. Arthur J. Mentor and Miss Ida M. Countryman, Rev. Thos. L. Carter officiated, from Battle Creek. Mr. Mentor is an energetic young farmer in Ida County, to which he came from Wisconsin, his native state four years ago. The bride is on of Iowa’s brightest girls and has spent most of her life in Ida County, pursuing the high calling of school teacher for six terms. Both bride and groom were converted during the revival held in Grant last November and united with the M.E. Church.
April 18,1889 Pioneer The death of Mrs. J.W. Lewis last week Wednesday was peculiarly sad. The accident in which her little son had his hand mangled in some machinery, last summer, preyed upon her mind a great deal, and she never fully recovered from the nervous shock. Her last illness was of several weeks duration, following child birth. The little babe and two other children are left motherless. Mrs. Lewis was the wife of one of our most esteemed farmers to whom the bereavement is great. She was a lovable woman, and a large circle of friends mourn her death. Services were conducted by the Presbyterian Church and Rev. Keeler, on Thursday and was largely attended. (Battle Creek)

April 25,1889 Pioneer The little daughter who arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Seig Simon, Tuesday, is the first Jewish girl born in Ida Grove, and it is needless to say that Seig thinks her the finest ever born in the county.
April 25,1889 Pioneer Geo. Lainson was made the happy father of a 13 1/2 pound daughter on Monday. What Geo. thinks of the little stranger may be imagined from his having gone out of business the next day in order to devote his whole time to her.

May 2,1889 Pioneer Hans Muller, father of Mrs. Aug. Witternberg, Died last Sunday night, aged 69 years. It will be remebered that we recorded Mrs. Mueller’s death only five of six weeks ago.
May 2,1889 Pioneer Married at the residence of the bride’s parents, near Arthur, Wednesday, May 1,1889, Mr. Gay E. Clifford and Miss Elizabeth Churchill. The Pioneer takes pleasure in chronicling the union of this worthy couple. The groom has for three years been in charge of the station at Arthur, and is a young man of fine business qualifications, genial disposition and exemplary habits. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Churchill, and is well known as highly accomplished young lady. The happy couple were the recipients of many handsome presents.
May 2,1889 Pioneer Jesse, the 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harvey, 4 1/2 miles northwest of town, died of tubercular meningitis, Wednesday morning, after an illness of about two weeks. Rev. Keeler will conduct funeral services today at the house at 9 a.m.
May 9,1889 Pioneer We regret to announce the sad news of the death and burial of Mrs. J. Schroeder, wife of Jurgen Schroeder, of Morgan twp, since your last issue, after a long and severe illness. Mrs. Schroeder passed away last Friday forenoon, at 10 o’clock, leaving a devoted husband and four little children to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. She was burden on Sunday, May 5 at the Nissen cemetery. The funeral was conducted by Rev.Hermann.
May 9,1889 Pioneer We regret to announce the death of Mr. o. Jansen’s infant child that passed away last Saturday morning, aged three weeks, and was buried at the German Cemetery in Grant twp., at Forenoon Monday, conducted by Rev. Hermann.
May 9,1889 Pioneer The little child of Mr. and Mrs. Heier of Douglas twp., died Wednesday and was buried.
May 9,1889 Pioneer Mr. Wm Nissen and Miss Agnes Brodersen were married last Saturday, by Rev. Hansen. The happy couple received the congratulations of their friends, together with a number of elegant and costly presents. The young people went to housekeeping at once in their nice new residence.
May 16,1889 Pioneer We regret to announce the sad news of the death of Fritz Bielenberg, the infant son of J. Bielenberg, of Grant twp., He passed away last Thursday afternoon, after an illness of about a week, and was buried at the German Lutheran Cemetery in Grant twp., Rev. Hermann conducted the services on May 11.
May 16,1889 Pioneer Died on May 8, of consumption, Mrs. Celia Wiese, wife of J. Wiese, in Griggs twp., aged 21 years. The remains were interred on Friday. May 23,1889 Pioneer Died Monday morning, May 20, of membranous croup, Earl Ernest, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Schiller, aged 7 years, 3 months, 11 days. The grim reaper has entered another home and torn away a loved inmate. After an illness of only a few days, little Earl passed away. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Charlton of the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday afternoon, there being not even standing room for the large congregation of sympathizing friends. Two primary school classes and teachers attended in a body and the pupils brought offerings of flowers to their departed mate.
May 23,1889 Pioneer Miss Christine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoagland died on Wednesday evening, May 15 of quick consumption contracted last February, since which time she has failed rapidly. She was an accomplished young lady of about twenty years, and will be missed by a large circle of friends.

May 30,1889 Pioneer The marriage of Nellie Barnes at Sioux City, Tuesday, was attended by Misses Maud Clark and Rosa Barnes and Mr. Walter Barnes of this place, the first named serving as bridesmaid.
May 30,1889 Pioneer The death of Mrs. M.A. Ward, a lady quite advanced in years and one of the earliest settlers here, occurred last week Thursday, the 23rd. Deceased was highly esteemed by all and her memory will long be revered.
May 30,1889 Pioneer two deaths from measles followed by lung fever occurred Monday, one was the 18 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Anspach and the other the little child of Mr. and Mrs. Abney, living in old town.
May 30,1889 Pioneer Andrew Gavin, died at his residence in Wheeler twp., Sac County on Friday May 24th of stomache troubles. He was born in the parish of Borrisokane, County Tipperary, Ireland and while a youth emigrated to America with his parents, settling in Jones County, where the latter still lives. About six years ago he purchased a farm in Sac County on which he and his family moved. Here he was respected by all who knew him. The funeral took place Sunday from the Catholic Church at Odebolt with Father Pechong officiating, and the remains were interred in the Odebolt Cemetery.
May 30,1889 Pioneer Chas. Rowe died on Thursday, the 23rd and was buried on Friday. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to the cemetery.
June 6,1889 Pioneer The death of little Ruth Schiller on Friday evening, only ten days after that of Earl, was one of those sad occurrences which call forth the fullest sympathy of a community. She was a bright little child of six years, such a short time before in the bloom of perfect health, it was hard to realize that death had claimed her. The disease was pronounced undeveloped measles, complicated with diphtheria, and health officer Moorehead being notified of the presence of the dangerous contagion, had notice posted of the same. Two other children lying ill at the time are now quite recovered, diphtheria developing but lightly in their cases. The obsequies of Ruth were quietly conducted, Sunday, Rev. Charlton officiated at the house.
June 6,1889 Pioneer Mat Barofsky went to Davenport last Friday, having received the sad news of the death at that place of his brother-in-law, father of Julius Stender, who started the day before, arriving too late to see his father alive.
June 6,1889 Pioneer Mr. Jas. Williams and Miss Mary Decker were married last Thursday, the ceremony being performed in Justice Wilkinson’s most impressive manner.
June 6,1889 Pioneer Hans Broder and Miss Elizabeth Wilbeck, both recently from Germany, were united in marriage by Rev. Hermann, Grant twp., on Saturday last. The couple will reside with the grooms brother, Peter Broders, Morgan twp., for awhile.
June 6,1889 Pioneer Another case of the measles followed by lung fever, ended fatally, Monday in the death of Miss Lydia, daughter of Rev. L.C. Steffler, the German Methodist Minister. She was about 12 years of age, and her loss is a severe blow to the family, who have resided here a short time, and in the sickness of the whole household suffered the isolation of others.
June 6,1889 Pioneer Mr. and Mrs. Mess were called suddenly last Wednesday by the death of their nephew in Crawford County, caused by the bursting of a blood vessel in his heart.

June 13,1889 Pioneer Died at the residence of his son in Hayes twp., on Monday June 11th, Patrick Long, 82 years. Deceased was a native of County Cork, Ireland, from when he emigrated in 1835. He moved to Ida County 9 years ago. Old age was the cause of his death, and dropsy of the heart. The funeral took place at the Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11;30. The remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery.
June 13,1889 Pioneer Death has again knocked at the door of Mrs. Gleason and taken away her husband. Elisha Gleason was a good man and always ready to lend a helping hand, and the people of Fairview will miss his welcome smile and extended hand of friendship. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Silver Creek Church in Cherokee County on June 6. Burial was in the Silver Creek Cemetery.
June 13,1889 Pioneer We regret to announce the death of Mr. Bock, father of Mrs. J.F. Petersen and Mrs Henry Andresen, of this twp. (Hayes). He died last Thursday morning after a long illness at the age of 79 years, and was buried at the German Lutheran Cemetery of Grant twp., Friday noon. He leaves a wife and several grown up children to mourn his death.
June 20,1889 Pioneer Died Friday, June 14,1889, Earl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lon Chapin, aged 13 months and 19 days. Baby Earl passed peacefully away after a brief illness of eight days. He was a lovely child, ever bright and happy as the morning. His little presence was like sunshine, to look upon him was to be glad. Funeral services were held at the house on Sunday afternoon by Rev. A.E. Smith.
June 20,1889 Pioneer Mr. Wm Yaco and Miss Mary Christopher were married last Thursday at the bride’s home. It was a very quiet affair.
A boy of usual weight arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bennett on Monday of last week.
June 27,1889 Pioneer A very sad accident occurred at the ball grounds Tuesday evening. At the close of the game a number bound for the old town made a rush to climb onto John Hawk’s dry, among the others, L. Hitchcock’s 9 year old son Romeo. In some was he slipped and fell between the wheel and the box, was carried part way round on the former and squeezed against the brake, falling Down in front of the wheel, which would have passed over his body in a second more had not Fred Mitchell managed to pull him away in the nick of time. The boy managed to get up, but staggered and it was found he could neither stand nor speak, having received internal injuries. Dr. Graeser was called in, but as usual in these cases little could be done, and after passing a bad night the little fellow breathed his last on Wednesday morning. The loss of a child under such circumstances is peculiarly sorrowful, and this terrible blow to the family excites the sympathy of all. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church at 2 o’clock this afternoon.

July 4,1889 Pioneer The marriage at the home of the bride’s parents Rev. and Mrs. M.S. Newcomer, on Thursday, June 27, of Rosa May Newcomer and Mr. W.H. Nunemaker. The ceremony was performed at 2 p.m. by Elder W.B. Allen, B.S. of Lanark, Illinois. The happy couple left for Englewood, Illinois were they will make their new home.
July 11,1889 Pioneer Died Sunday, July 7,1889, Kent son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay D. Miller, aged 7 years, 9 months, 2 days. Kent’s illness was long and painful, about seven weeks. He was taken down with the measles and suffered a severe attack, ending in lung fever. He never rallied, the disease spread rapidly taking the form of quick consumption and finishing its cruel work. Kent bore his suffering with patience and fortitude. He was naturally a thoughtful child and possessed a gifted, unusually developed mind that gave great promise for the future. The funeral took place on Monday at 4 p.m. from the M.E. Church, where impressive services were conducted by Elder Whitfield, Rev. Wm Whitfied and Rev. A. E. Smith.
July 11,1889 Pioneer Mr. John E. Leas and Miss Kittie McQuillen, both of Logan twp. were married by Rev. M.S. Newcomer, Monday last, and took their departure on the evening train for two weeks visit among relatives in the eastern part of the state.
July 16,1889 Pioneer A 15 month child of Aug. Hein died last Saturday and was buried on Monday. Theo Abbe also lost an infant child three weeks old yesterday.
July 16,1889 Pioneer A 14 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juergen Spahn of Hayes twp. died last Friday of measles complicated with lung fever. Rev. Herman held services at the family residence the remains being interred in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
July 25,1889 Pioneer Treasurer Eicholtz received a telegram Monday, announcing the death of his father, which took place Sunday night at his home in Gettysburg, PA.

August 22,1889 Pioneer Julia, the 13 year old daughter of Jacob Juelfs, of Silver Creek twp., died very suddenly, Tuesday noon, having been sick less than two hours. The attending physicians announced it a case of heart disease, aggravated by the affect of measles she had some time ago. It was severe and unexpected blow to the family. Rev. Hermann conducted the funeral services at the house and interment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
September 5,1889 Pioneer Hugh Ferguson, a former resident of Hayes twp., now of Cushing was made happy by the birth of a daughter this week.
September 12,1889 Pioneer Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Zimpleman were called upon to mourn the loss of their only child, a daughter,only a few months old. It was buried in the Ida Grove Cemetery last Thursday.
October 10,1889 Pioneer Died on Friday October 3,1889 Mr. o. Jewell, of paralysis, aged 71 years, 3 months, 2 days. Mr. Jewell was a native of New York, but when a boy moved to Whitside County, Illinois, and from there to Vinton County, in 1861 and from there with his family to Ida County four years ago. He was stricken with paralysis about a year ago and since then has been a helpless invalid, and from which disease called his demise. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his death.

November 21,1889 Pioneer J.E. Barrett, age 69 years for a long time past a resident of Ida Grove, died of heart disease on last Thursday, and was interred in the Ida Grove Cemetery on Friday. He was ill but a short time.
November 21,1889 Pioneer Additional information on Mr. Pritchard’s death (see Nov. 21,1889 Era Edition) HE was a native of Canada, aged 52, single and lived in the county the last eight years. He was respected by all who knew him. He died immediately.

December 5,1889 Pioneer This is additional information added to the Era’s edition. Mr. Bunn was the eldest son of Isaac Bunn, and was born and raised in Ida County. He was a printer by trade, and was a former foreman of the Pioneer. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
