In June of 1865 Andrew and Anna Rossing Gullixson, with their
two daughters, Emma and Celia, and brother-in-law Christian Rossing, came from
Argyle, Wisconsin in prairie schooners drawn by oxen, with their possessions
to Humboldt County.
They homestead land in section 19, Delana Township. Each
became extensive farmers in the county. Together they established their
homes, improved their land, and were active in church and schools. Iowa
Falls was the closest town for provisions.
Gullixson built a log house near the covered wagon, and in the
winter many cracks would appear and Anna would cook crack corn and fill the
cracks so wind and snow stayed out.
The family they raised in a God-fearing manner were:
Bertha Emma Gullixon (Mrs. Fred Anderson); Celia Ann Gullixson; Rev. George
Gullixson, wife Minnie Olson, pastor in Chicago for 32 years; Clara Elizabeth
Gullixson Olson, wife of Prof. Oscar Olson, former president of Luther
College, Decorah, Iowa; Oscar Theodore Gullixson, wife Inga Dahl, banker and
lawyer; Mary Francis Gullixson Sauer, wife of Rev. Carl Sauer; Dr. Andrew
Gullixson, wives, Ella Knatvold and Cathryn Bolamonson, doctor in Albert Lea,
Minn.; Herman Otto Gullixson, wife Signe Dahle, Humboldt County Treasurer and
farmer; Anna L. Gullixson Lewison, wife Bessie Freese, former president of
Lutheran Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.
