WICHMAN, Dale James 1950 - 2001

WAUCOMA -- Dale J. Wichman, 50, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001 at his home of a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma, with Rev. Marvin Salz presiding. Rev. Peter Bodensteiner concelebrated. Regina Riha was organist and Mike Kuennen was lector. Millie Vrzak was Eucharistic Minister, Kim Winslow and Lisa Wichman presented the offertory gifts. Mass servers and cross bearer were Adam and Sara Schmitt and Karla Dietzenbach.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waucoma, with Christopher Wichman, Shelley Heying, Mark Kuennen, Brian Dabler, Tammy Heying, Mick Heying, Eugene Schaufenbuel and Marvin Schaufenbuel as pallbearers.

Visitation was Friday, Aug. 31 at the Waucoma Funeral Chapel with a 4 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.

Dale James Wichman, son of Clarence and Clara (Vrzak) Wichman, was born Dec. 22, 1950 at Waucoma. He graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1969. Fie then worked for Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids for about a year before being drafted into the Army in 1970. Dale served in Vietnam for 15 months and received the Combat Infantry Badge. Upon returning from Vietnam he again worked for Wilson Foods until they closed. He was then employed by the United States Postal Service until his death. Dale was a member of the Waucoma Legion Post, Vietnam Veterans of America, Local 333 National Post Office and Mail Handlers Union AFL-CIO. He enjoyed golfing, skiing and playing cards.

Surviving are his mother, Clara Wichman, Waucoma; one brother, Gary (Sally) Wichman, Gilbertville; five sisters, Shirley (Daniel) Riha, Joyce (Steve) Kuennen, Waucoma, Judy (Ed) Heying, Chandler, AZ, Harriet (Ron) Dabler, Marion, Beverly (Leon) Heying, Cedar Rapids; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a great-great-nephew.

Preceding him in death were his father in 1988 and grandparents.
