SCHALLER, Edward A. Rev. 1922 - 2001

Funeral services for Rev. Edward A. Schaller of Waverly were held on Friday, February 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. Rev. Tony R. Nester officiated. Interment was in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Kaiser Corson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Edward, 79, died Monday, February 19, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo from natural causes.

Edward was the oldest of five children bom on February 6, 1922, in the rural Randalia area, the son of Alfred and Ema (Vandersee) Schaller. He graduated from Randalia High School in 1940, and farmed with his father for 10 years.

In 1950 he made the decision to answer the call to Ministry at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He also received a BA degree from Luther College in Decorah.

On August 14, 1953 he married Elizabeth Nuemberger at Goodrich Baptist Church in Goodrich, WI.

Edward spent thirty-four years as a minister to seven areas in Iowa. Those charges included: Cresco-Alta Vista-Zion from 1954-1962. He retired from the active ministry in 1988, when he and his wife moved to Waverly and bought their home there. Edward was briefly called back to the active ministry by the United Methodist conference to pastor the Clarksville Church in 1994.

Throughout his retirment Edward remained active in church work.

Edward served his community through his active membership and participation in the Lions Club. He participated in building projects through Habitat for Humanity.

For many years he served the Iowa United Methodist conference as Nomination Secretary.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth of Waverly; three daughters: Rebecca Moore of Mechanicsville, Deborah Otto of Dayton, MN, and Ruth Breitbach of New Hampton; six grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy Bemis of Muscatine, Arlene McComb of Waverly, and Marilyn Arbaugh of Seattle, WA; and one brother David of West Union.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents.
