NEW HAMPTON -- Emmett Martin, 84, New Hampton, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton after a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at -St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. The pall was placed on the casket by his wife, Mary and their three children. The offertory gifts were presented by Richard and Joan Martin. Eucharistic ministers were Roscoe McDonald, Sharon McDowell and Gerry Kennedy. Sr. Lois Erpelding served as lector.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hamp-. ton with Tim Riley, Jack Gorman, Vern Laures, Wally Murphy, Doug Maharry ana Mike Kennedy as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Kennedy, Gerald Carney, Bob Dee, A1 Riley, Richard Martin, Bob Rigler, Dr. James Carr, Leon Hugeback, Nels Jensen, Dennis Reaman and Don Hackman.

Visitation was held 3-8 .m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.

Emmett was born March 21, 1917 in Emmetsburg, the son of John and Anna (Nolan) Martin. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1935. Following two years at Emmetsburg Community College, Emmett attended Mortuary College in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1938. Emmett served his internship at McCollough Funeral Home, Algona. In 1939, he went to work for the C.F. Morgan and Son Funeral Home, Newton. He married Mary Dickinson on Oct. 19, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Newton. Following their marriage, Emmett and Mary moved back to Emmetsburg where they joined his father in the furniture business and the Martin Funeral Home, Emmetsburg. Shortly after moving Emmett and Mary opened furniture stores and new funeral homes in Graettinger and Estherville which they operated for nearly 20 years. In 1961 the couple purchased the Larkin Funeral Homes, New Hampton and Lawler from Bill Larkin which became known as Larkin-Martin Funeral Homes. Emmett and Mary operated the funeral homes until retirement in 1979 when they sold the business to Leon Hugeback. Emmett was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1697.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Mary Martin and Julie Martin-Maduros (Spyros) and a son, John (Debra) Martin, all of Fountain Hills, AZ and three grandchildren.
